Well, to start off, it was EXTREMELY hard to find their actual website as the link on here and typing it into google takes me to something totally different. (Pictures of what I am referring to are below). Once I was able to actually find the site I called in an order for pickup which was very easy. The restaurant is very small but nice. Now... let's get into the food... ‍ I had such high hopes based on their reviews from here and TikTok. My hopes were shattered once I actually started eating. I love African food and this was very disappointing. ALL of the meat was EXTREMELY over cooked to the point it tasted like jerky. There was very little spice in the jollof rice and the goat was more fat and skin than meat. The vegetable stew was good but I didn't expect fish to be in it since I didn't order the seafood one. It also has a lot of fish bones throughout it. The plantains were sweet but not as seared as I'm used to, they were more on the mushy side. The staff is nice however.

I'm back again.... Once again they did not disappoint! Let's start with the owners they are Nigerian real authentic Nigerians that speak their language within this establishment. As a foodie I appreciate culture as I explore their cuisine. I was surprised when I found out that cooks behind the scene were all men! Yeah I couldn't believe how good the food taste for it to be all men who were cooking the food. Yeah, that was a bias statement but hey! You don't find a lot of men who are great cooks let alone the owner of the business. The inside looks cute. Small but spaced out enough so you don't feel like you are on top of other customers. It's definitely a try.

I have been coming to Baba Jollof for almost 2 years now, and I probably eat her almost twice a week. Out of all the Nigerian Restaurants/lounges that I have been to this one is definitely my favorite. The service is great and the food comes out in a timely manner. The place is cleaned , and the set up is dope, they have seats and booths where you can sit and enjoy your food . If you are a Hookah smoker they have hookah there as well. But wait Baba Jollof is also a BYOB establishment !! They have several TVs around the establishment as well as music playing. A good place to bring a group of friends to have a good time, or you can come alone and just enjoy the vibe. I would say my favorite is the rice and stew with goat meat, nice size portions and it is sure to feel you up. This place is a must if you haven't been! 5 stars Baba Jollof ! 5 stars !

Jollof was spot on! Spot on! I was pleased. Portions are heaping. Each order comes with huge portion of jollof, meat and succulent plantains. The environment: small clean restaurant placed in a gas station strip mall. In side is very neat, decor is chíc. Would probably seat 25-30 comfortably. Several TVs. Supposedly there will be hookah at some point. When I visited, stay-at-home orders had just been lifted and not many were voyaging out to eat. I was the only one in the restaurant. But they were nice and accommodating and I feel this place has great odds despite a rough start with COVID season!

Special Baba Jollof Rice and Beef

I was craving Rice and Beef. I was looking at the different places on my Doordash and Ubereats app and comparing them, because I'm such a picky gal. My safe place is usually Marie African, but I wanted to try a different restaurant. Royal Point was on my list to try but they were closed, so that was a bummer. Now, I really like Jollof Rice, but once I discovered Coconut Rice a few years ago, I usually order that with Goat or Beef at most places. I love the fact that it has Shrimp and Carrots in it. I have wanted to try Baba Jollof for a while now and since Uber Eats delivers I decided to give them a try. Looking at the menu I discovered that they not only have the regular Jollof Rice but they also have a Party Jollof Rice. I was definitely down to try that so I ordered that with beef. The rice itself looked tasty and very plentiful. Once I tried it though it was pretty dry, and the chicken in it was very hard. I didn't know if it was old chicken(not freshly made) or overcooked chicken. It had tons of Peas in it which I don't really care for(but that's my preference). It lacked carrots though, there were a few and I really like carrots so if it was loaded with carrots I wouldn't have complained at all. I only ate a small portion the rice. The beef would've been superb if they had simmered it in the tomato stew. It seems they just cooked it and that was it, so it tasted like beef without the Nigerian flavor. I love the Stew, so if the meat was slathered in it I wouldn't have said a word. I tried two of the Plantains and they were good. I like my Plantains with a little crisp to them and they had that. I would give them another try, but I would go to the restaurant and order instead of ordering thru an app.

I ordered take out. The cook came out twice to confirm my order. Super nice. Good service. Laid back. They are set up for dine-in but it feels more of a carry out place. I ordered the fish egusi. It came with an order of fufu. I absolutely love the flavors. The right amount of spicy. 10/10!!! I'll definitely try other items as well as continue ordering the fish egusi.

Jollof Rice and Plantain with suya

Loved this place. Great music and service was fast. We ordered Jollof and plantains with a side of suya. Portions are big we ended up taking about 2/3s home and reheated it the next day . They have hookah as well. We didn't try it this visit but will definitely try it next time.

a plate of food on a table

I went on a weekday afternoon for takeout, so I wasn't expect to see a hookah crowd. It's very stylish, hip, and "comfortable" As far as the food is concerned, A+. I ordered the fried rice and plantain with fish. In fact I'm writing this review majorly because how pleased I am with the amount of food that was given for the price. I got an entire fried fish, and enough rice to feed two people at once. When it comes to nigerian food, this isn't usually the case. And it is DELICIOUS, AUTHENTIC, AND PLENTY! I can't wait to go back for the hookah experience

I had never even heard of a Martinez but I was open to trying it. He made it, looked at it, and said it didn't come out right. He asked if it would be okay for him to redo it which I of course obliged. I appreciated the fact that he didn't serve me a drink that wasn't properly made. The wait was worth it. The Martinez tasted like a sweeter Negroni and I really enjoyed it! I'm glad I was able to visit one of the oldest bars in Houston. Friday after work during happy hour and the prices could not be beat, especially with their lobster bites (was sitting at about $30, and we got them half off!) Drinks were fantastic! I selected the "Golden Cadillac" that comes with a miniature bottle of Grand Marnier inside of it. Very good. My company decided on an array of appetizers for his "main course", while I went with their Fried Salmon (served with Mac and cheese, and collard greens). Omg! So tasty! The pepper was prevalent throughout, but it did not over power the flavor! I make collard greens at home (and learned from one of the best), and even I found theirs to be pretty good! My company selected fried ribs, along with the lobster bites, and crawfish queso dip, and their wings! I tasted what he got, and we both agreed that the wings were "off the chart" delicious with a beautiful straight off the grill smoky flavor! So good that he got another order to go! Lol. What made our experience there amazing was our server Ray (Rajean = think "the 90's TV Show "Living Single"..."smooches"!)...she was the best!! From her hello, to walking us through the menu (as first-timers), her recommendations, her energy, her smile, and her being very relatable. Loved her! My only gripe was the bathrooms, the ladies room needed attention (and could use a spruce all around). It doesn't help that it is a bit small, but yeah, they need to focus some efforts on ensuring it's upkeep. As for seating and parking, there is a bar area and limited seating toward the front of the restaurant, but it does extend to back of the house with additional seating. There is also patio seating as well. Because this place seems popular, it is best to reserve ahead to ensure your seating. Parking is very limited! They do however, offer valet (but at $20+). There is off-street parking, but be careful since this is a residential area and nothing is secure. All in all, I really had a great time and left with my belly full! Definitely worth checking out! What was lost is now found! Enjoy!

It's BYOB, offers hookah, smoothies, fresh juices, teas, and an extensive food menu with plenty of great priced food options. The service was decent, but the waiter could have been more attentive to our table. Unfortunately, the hookah wasn't the best. The shisha flavors weren't prominent enough to really enjoy not even the mint flavor. I don't think a hookah has to be made with Love 66 to be flavorful, so that was a bit disappointing. On the bright side, the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Four seasoned lamb chops for under $30 is a great deal! I ordered mine medium well and substituted the hummus for french fries and kept the rice. The meal came with a white garlic tzatziki sauce and what I believe was a red spicy sauce called harissa sauce. The tzatziki sauce was very good with the rice and is definitely worth trying. The menus description of mixed vegetables was misleading to me. Instead of an actual scoop of mixed vegetables (what I thought I was getting) it came with a single slice of onion, tomato, and bell pepper, which felt more like garnishes than a side. I didn't get a chance to try the chicken philly sub or gyro wrap because my friends cleaned their plates before I could grab a bite. From the emptiness of their plates that should tell you all you need to know about how good the food was. Overall, Cafe Layal is a convenient spot with plenty of parking. It's a good place to study, hang out with friends, or enjoy affordable hookah, plus it's BYOB with only a small corkage fee. Yes, the hookah and service could use some improvement, but the food and value really made it worth the visit.

I'm just not ok with a dj who is being paid by the owner, telling folks or allowing the MC to tell folks in order to request a song, you gotta pay. If I chose to tip him, so be it, but being forced ain't cool. My biggest complaint was the price of everything. Now I'm a country chick and realize that prices are more expensive in the city. I was approached by the manager and I told her I needed a set up. She asked me what chasers I wanted and I said water and coke. I was charged separately for the water and coke that was supposed to be included in my set up.... so all together for a set up and a hookah, I paid over $60. I've never paid, IN HOUSTON, more than $10 for a set up and $35 for a hookah. Then they have small 4 oz paper cups to get the ice out with. After all this she attempted to charge me a bottle fee for each bottle I brought in. I sincerely think the young lady wasn't sure about what she was doing. Again she maintained her professionalism but she looked overwhelmed. Let's move on to those hookahs, the flavor lasted maybe 10-15 minutes and then the other lady who was helping refresh the coals was firmly pressing them down on the foil. I called her to the side and advised her that she was going to burn the shisha like that and sure enough my next puff was nothing but burnt shisha. They did replace it for free so I can't say much about that but overall....... The employees need training, I think they were overwhelmed and I think y'all were understaffed to serve the amount of people that accompanied this party...
