We were interested in trying this place and dined in for our experience. There were several parties enjoy a meal and a few more waiting for their to-go orders, so seemed popular. We were allowed to seat ourselves. Unfortunately, the empty table we picked was still dirty with food crumbs and stray hairs. We ordered the fufu with egusi stew and suya ribs. After waiting ~15 minutes, they informed me that the ribs they had did not have a lot of meat on it and asked if they could substitute some suya beef with the ribs, which I agreed to. The food came out very fresh and looked quite delicious. Egusi flavor is a bit mild and the fufu was a very interesting texture but did not have much flavor on its own. The ribs had an excellent char to it and smokey flavor. The meat was not chewy but very hard to pull off the bone. The suya beef had similar flavor to the ribs but a bit on the dry side. The jollof rice that came on the side did not have much flavor to it to be honest. Overall, a good experience to try Nigerian food but could benefit from better cleaning. read more

I tried the restaurant in Pearland and really love the oxtail pepper soup so I wanted to check out this location. Service was timely and polite. Unfortunately, this location does not have oxtail pepper soup. This location only has goat pepper soup, which is good, but not as good as the oxtail version you can find in Pearland. Also, this location did not provide rice with soup - which was another reason i didn't enjoy the meal as much. They did have the same delicious meat pies. I will likely not return to this Westheimer location since the oxtail pepper soup is my favorite thing on the menu. For those who enjoy alcohol, the Westheimer location does serve alcohol however since alcohol is not important to me, I'll be going to the Pearland location. read more

I will preface this review by saying I've never had Nigerian food before so I have no standard to compare this experience to. We ordered through Door Dash and everything came hot and well packaged. All of the food had great flavor, from the jollof rice to the shrimp and okra soup. The chicken suya was our favorite, well seasoned and moist. The portion sizes were ample. However, the stewed goat was a little overcooked, which was unfortunate as the pieces were mostly bone and fat. The shrimp jollof rice was underwhelming and not worth it, as it literally was just a few large shrimp thrown into their usual jollof rice, which had already come with another dish. Some textures of the dishes--like the very slimy okra and dough-like sweet potato-- were not appetizing. The place is split in two long rooms so you have the side with the dj and the bar and the other side was more restaurant style with tables and booths. The service was quick and sweet. Everyone was lovely and they made sure to bring what you wanted out quickly. I was surprised only because you know it was busy but they are all attentive and just on it. Now to the food. It's been years since I've last visited. The food however is still just as good as I remember it. While I was in town briefly I knew before I left I had to come back here it has been too long. I love suya and the spice is perfect it's not at all heat level that's intolerable it's just enough to give you a kick. Everything was hot and fresh. Of course when it comes to jollof there are always debates. At home my jollof has some heat to it and the flavor profile is a bit more pronounced. I can respect that everyone can't tolerate heat so it's like a mid ground with the jollof. I really like the decor, it's really laid back and just a vibe. I ordered takeout and had a great experience from start to finish. The woman at the front desk was friendly and took our order quickly and efficiently. The wait time was about 25 minutes, which was very reasonable for the amount of food that was being prepared. The food was absolutely amazing hands down one of the best African restaurants in the area! Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. The red snapper was perfectly fried with just the right amount of spice, the plantains were sweet and tender, and the jollof rice was full of rich flavor. The Red Snapper was the star of the show for me. The restaurant was clean and welcoming with a few dine-in guests enjoying their meals while we waited. One of my favorite Nigerian spots in Houston! Since I last came here, they have renovated the interior from what it initially used to look like with the removal of the bar so it does feel a little bit smaller than it already did. However, the food is just as great tasting as it has always been. This time around, I got the jollof plate with beef which also comes with plantain, spinach, and lettuce. I came here for a quick bite while in Houston. The parking was ample as it is located in a plaza. The interior of the restaurant is marble with black velvet couch seating but not in a luxurious way. You could tell the seating was dirty even though it is black. We were seated immediately as the restaurant was not busy, however, we had to wait a while for our food. I ordered the following: Designer stew plate- 7/10, this dish was underwhelming and surprisingly cold even though it had just come out the kitchen. The tripe was also slightly overcooked. The plantain was okay, but white rice was good and not overcooked. Shrimp suya w/ jollof and plantain- 8/10, the shrimp suya was not bad but the shrimp was slightly overcooked, it definitely helped add flavor to the jollof which was bland. During my second visit to Houston, we ordered takeout, and I have to say that the shrimp in the shrimp suya did not taste fresh and the presentation was unsightly. It looked like something that was left out on the counter for at least a week then repackaged. I couldn't bear to eat it because it looked like a mushy mess. Ultimately, I would definitely say that this place wouldn't be my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or even 7th choice to eat at again if I was craving good Nigerian food. read more

My friend and I were super excited to try a sit down Nigerian restaurant. While the food was great, the service was non-existent. We literally had to BEG for our food. However, I want to share that the food is excellent. My Suya shrimp was well seasoned, and the plantain was perfect. Although I wish my Jollof was spicier, it was tasty. I also wish my Zobo had more of a ginger flavor, but it was still refreshing. The spot wasn't too loud, and the art/decor was gorgeous! Parking is available in the front and back of the building. This is by far the best Nigerian restaurant I may have ever been too. We got here around 7:30pm on a Tuesday evening, and although they closed at 8pm, we got seated with no issues. Our waitress brought over the menus and it was simple and creative. I got the grilled fish, and it came with plantain and spinach. We also got the shrimp skewers to share, which were really tasty. The food did take a little while to come out but it was worth the wait. Overall, the staff was polite, the restaurant was clean and didn't smell like food and the food was great. This place was incredible. For my first experience eating South African food, this was the one. Credit goes to my friend Chris for taking my sister and I here. We went in early, so it wasn't busy at all. It was a good time to go before the lunch rush. Our waitress was also very kind enough to make some recommendations of the appetizers and entrees we should try. The biggest thing for me was wanting to try some fufu. So I ordered some spinach with beef soup. To start, we also ordered the suya wings and meat pies. The meat pies were really good. It was minced meat with potatoes and it was pretty flavorful and well spiced. The suya wings were equally as good and you're just hit with a plethora of flavor in every bite. When our main courses came, I was so excited. I've seen how people eat it and I just went for it. They gave you a bowl of water to wash your hands (which was nice!) and I just grabbed up some of the fufu and scooped some of the soup (it was a thick consistency) and went to town eating it. And wow... I was blown away at how spiced the soup was. It was so good. The fufu was a perfect balance since it is plain meal and it just went great with every scoop of the soup. I devoured it. I had to order another fufu for my boyfriend to try when I got home because I really wanted him to experience how delicious it all was. The ambiance was also chill and relaxed, very clean. This one is hard because my experience was so different from my friend's. Let's start with the easy stuff. We called ahead of time to make sure the items we wanted were available since Nigerian restaurants tend to run out of things. I wanted fish pepper soup so we confirmed over the phone that they had it and the goat for my friend. This restaurant is located in a small strip mall of sorts, and it's pretty easy to find. I wasn't a fan of the black and white decor, but it was neat and gave elegant vibes. When we walked in, we were told that we could sit anywhere, so we did. After receiving our menus, I ordered the fish pepper soup, yam fries and the shrimp skewers with a side of plantain. My friend ordered the goat plate and suya wings. Shortly after we ordered, we noticed that a couple next to us who was seated after us received plantain chips. We looked on Yelp and noticed comments that the plantain chips were complimentary, so we waited but they never came. We finally asked someone else who was not our waiter and she brought them. They were good but the sauce they were served with was literally just seasoned oil. The couple to the right of us and the couple to the left of us (both seated after us) received their food before we did...it made no sense. We were confused but decided to just be patient. My friend's wings came, but they were massive. They looked like GMO wings pumped with hormones. She was scared to eat them but took a bite. Unfortunately, it wasn't fully cooked inside. She was so disgusted. She decided to try a different one to see if it was cooked, but she didn't like it and could no longer eat it. So she sent it back. My yam fries came with the same seasoned oil as the plantain chips. But the lady who brought them said the sauce looked watery, so she went and got what I guess was the actual sauce. That sauce made more sense and was good. The yam fries were a success once the sauce was replaced. My friend's goat was delivered, and the flavor was on point. But there was so much fat on the goat that it disrupted her ability to eat it. She had to keep stopping to pick around the fat. Before she brought my shrimp, the waiter came to our table and said they ran out of catfish pepper soup...I'm sure you can imagine my face. That was literally all I was craving. I was so annoyed but...what can you do? My shrimp dish was pretty good. Their jollof rice was good, and the shrimp was well seasoned. I also liked the plantains and the raw purple onions. And the portions were great. Would I come back here? No. When we got to the hotel, my friend started feeling sick. We thought maybe it was just that she needed to poop. But after that, it got worse. Now onto the food- I've always wanted to try pounded yam with stew and this place did not disappoint. They let you do half and half for the stew so I had the seafood okra and egusi with beef. The restaurant had a good flow of people even when we went during off-peak hours. We ordered the Turkey Grizzard with Plaintain, and that was a big hit! The grizzard was tender and not chewy at all. The assorted meat tray was alright, there were some meats that were really good, like goat, ribs, and beef. The chicken was extremely dry though, like earing cardboard. I came with my Nigerian friend because I'm an adventurous eater, I love jollof rice, and I'd never been to a Nigerian restaurant or had suya. He said the last two needed to be amended immediately. Then When I saw that I was the only white person, I knew I was in for a treat. In my experience that is always a great sign for any ethnic dining experience. The service was lovely. Cindy took care of us and answered my questions and offered suggestions. When I asked for stew or hot sauce, she gave me a surprised look which made me lol but she brought it with a word of warning. I love spicy food so I crushed it and the Suya which I think got me some respect but even if it didn't, always ask for what you like politely. The worst they say is no or we can't. I added a lot of extra Suya spice and it was chefs kiss. I tried the goat usun? That my friend ordered and it was even better. Tender and spicy. Plenty of flavor. The wife and I have visited Aria twice. This last time she had Chicken Breast Suya w/jollof rice. I had Fried Snapper w/Yam Fries, and the boy went with suya wings. The wife loved her suya and the boy's wings, but said the jollof was not spicy like the usual Nigerian jollof. My snapper was delicious, but just know that they slather on some spicy sauce which I wasn't expecting. It was delicious but I'm avoiding spicy foods due to gastro issues. (not a negative on Aria.)
