Amazing! Best Baba Gannoush. I got the platter with chicken. Plenty of pita bread - 3 big pieces cut in half. Every bite was so full of spice and flavor. I like the extra little kick. This meal felt like a family member made it. This restaurant has a great story with the name - basically the kid ma always raiding baba's pantry for food. This a full meal every time. Try the jalapeño sumac. It's not too hot but it's a nice step up from say spinach dip. I will be back soon to try the kebab and falafel. Arguably the best falafels in the entire greater Kansas City area. Like, amazing. Really delicious baba ghanoush that tastes super fresh with a kick of acidity. The prices are pretty reasonable too for the amount of food you get. Couple of downsides I noticed: --Really limited seating. Some individuals not only waited in line to purchase their food, but then waited quite some time for an open seat, only to give up and leave. --The area isn't necessarily the best. When I went, there was an automobile accident that just occurred, and then I was almost hit by a different driver moments after. Just be careful of your surroundings. Came here with some friends. It was such a wonderful and warm place to visit. I'm Jewish and my heart is breaking about what is going on everywhere in the Middle East whether it's happening to Muslim people or Jewish people, the innocent people are suffering because of the governments. It is nice to come to a place like this that celebrates Palestinian people and feeds the community while celebrating and enjoying a peaceful meal. This was having a very different touch of their in-house recipe. We did give us a hint of spiciness along with all the other flavors. It was it was delicious. The pita bread was warm and soft. I walked into Babas Pantry thinking I knew what good food was. I walked out humbled, emotional, and extremely full. We ordered with reckless abandon -- like kids in a candy store if the candy was made of perfectly seasoned meat, crispy falafel, and Middle Eastern comfort food. Sliced beef kebab wrap (all the way), falafel, creamy lentil soup, sweet tea with date syrup, tropical lemonade, and baklava. No regrets. Zero. Let's talk about that wrap. This thing was a full-contact sport. Juicy beef, charred veggies, every sauce known to humanity, dripping down your hands, your chin, probably onto the floor. You're gonna need napkins. You're gonna need emotional preparation. It's worth it. The falafel? Hot, crispy, fluffy inside, drowned (in a good way) with creamy sauce and bright pickled sides that cut through everything perfectly. The lentil soup was rich, smooth, and comforting in a way that makes you pause mid-bite and just nod to yourself like, "Yeah... this is it." The sweet tea with date syrup is straight-up genius. I've been to Baba's a few times now and I have to say this is a special spot in KC. The first thing you'll notice when you come here is the ambiance. It's painted in vibrant colors, and decorated in such a way that you no longer feel like you're in KC but you're in the middle east, enjoying a meal at a local delicatessen. The next thing you'll notice as you wait in line (there is always a line!) are the prepared foods for sale that you can purchase to take home with you - think hummus, baba ganoush, etc. I'm always tempted by this and haven't yet made an extra purchase but let's be real, it's only a matter of time. Now if you're extra perceptive you might notice that this is a family run place, which in my book makes it a little extra special. If you're lucky you'll see Baba himself, who is always the most friendly and welcoming person in the entire restaurant. Now to the food - it's all good. Everything I've had is tasty and authentic. The best thing I ate recently was the baklava. I'm not often one to get a dessert, but I was here with an out of town friend and we thought it would be fun to share a sweet treat and honestly I'm not lying when I say this was the best baklava I've ever had. I'm still thinking about it to be honest. My last note is just to know it's a small restaurant. If you can take it to go I'd recommend that, or recommend coming early or late in the lunch hour to try and snag a table. You might have to ask to share with someone, which is what we did, and nobody had an issue with it. Hey, you might make a new friend that way if you dine-in! This place is spectacular. It sits next to Baba's pantry (itself excellent in its own right). The offerings are somewhat simple, but executed at a VERY high level and priced quite reasonably. If I have a criticism it is that they are only open on weekends. Nothing here is overly sweet, but rather seems perfect for pairing with coffee or tea. The banana bread/cake had big chunks of banana in it and was topped with a rose glaze. The dark chocolate baklava surprised me with how good it was. The slightly bitter chocolate played well with the honey and nuts. The babannoli, a cannolo made from phyllo dough and dipped in chocolate with pistachios was crunchy with a velvety smooth filling. This area is blessed with great bakeries (Blackhole, Heirloom, McClain's) and Baba's sits right there with the best of them. As if Baba's Pantry could get more perfect, they now have a bakery that's open on Saturdays 11a-3p next door. I arrived at 11:05 and there was already a line almost to the door. The line snakes along the wall and turns around at the far end of the bakery counter, so you get plenty of time to study the beautiful sweets and treats. The pistachio cinnamon rolls were flying off the shelf, and I can understand why! So gooey and delicious. I also loved the banana tahini vegan cake and the black sesame turmeric cookies. There is a doorway between the bakery and the original space, so there is now more seating to enjoy your food inside. Both spaces are still quite small for the size of the crowd, so expect a wait! As always, the staff at Baba's Pantry are wonderful -- kind and welcoming and helpful with recommendations and explanations. You can't ask for better service. There's not a designated parking lot, but it seems like a lot of people use the bank parking lots after bank hours. I always park in the fast food parking lot behind the restaurant. read more

Ordered a chicken shawarma wrap & I must've received someone else's order. I ended up getting a sliced beef kebab wrap with a really spicy sauce on it. I tried to still eat it but it was so spicy I couldn't get through more than a couple bites. Still giving 4 stars because it was just a mix-up and it still was very tasty but way too spicy for me (I believe it was the shatta sauce). In 2022 Bon Appetit named Baba's Pantry one of the 10 best new restaurants in America. I took note and added it to my KC collection but never visited. Until now. I drove by it the first time and had to double back. I didn't recognize its building fronts US Bank on East 63rd street. Parking is on the west end of the building near the bank drive-thru entrance. I initially entered the bakery side. I saw some delicious treats although I resisted the temptation. The spaces of each are small, simple and clean. Reminds me of my best friend's non-English speaking mother making us breakfast in their kitchen while in high school. Diners and staff were friendly. Lots of smiles amongst both. A nice, comfortable neighborhood cafe. I ordered the stuffed falafel pita combo with salata arabi and a cucumber mint drink to-go. I was informed all food is served in to-go packaging. I was in Kansas City only for the day and happen to be in the neighborhood and of course had to stop by Baba's pantry. Wanted something quick and light and I did the falafel sandwich in a pita. It was superb. The falafel had great flavor and crunch. The pita was fresh and soft and it had just the right amount of sauce and pickles. All the ingredients complemented everything very well. Baba's Pantry is a small restaurant with a shop portion where you can buy jarred and freshly made foods to take home or as gifts. There are only a few tables available on the weekdays so it seemed like many of the customers were picking up take out meals. I ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich for lunch. Serving this sandwich on fresh pita was appreciated but we both found the food slightly underwhelming. All of the compliments to the sandwich were bright and acidic, but it wasn't as flavorful as I'd have hoped for. The namesake, Baba's Falafel, was well seasoned and crunchy. When you enter Baba's pantry you are transcended to a Palastinian family home. You are instantly comforted by the cultural decor and the homemade pantry items that line the shelves and fill the coolers. Order at the counter and settle in if you are lucky to stop by when a table is available. Andy was so helpful and answered all my questions. They offer a vegan jackfruit which BURSTING with flavor! I opted to get my jackfruit wrap deconstructed in a bowl, and Andy was accommodating. Get the fixings... Torshi, Shatta, pickled turnips and olives! Also ordered the baba's ganoush platter with cucumbers and Baba's falafel (stuffed with onion and sumac). The ganoush was big enough for a family. The falafel are so so crispy! And they are more of a log shape which allows for better dipping in garlic toum sauce. I will say as the falafel cooled the flavors of the stuffing started to stand out more. On my second visit I tried the hummus which is very creamy and heavy on the tahini flavor. I was overwhelmed with joy and pleasure dining here. We stopped here for dinner after a recommendation from an Arab friend. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and Baba himself greeted us. The decor is very cute. We ordered chicken shawarma, hummus, and fattoush. The chicken wraps were large and the meat was well seasoned. The hummus was smooth and pita chips were great. Fattoush was fresh and full of flavor and veggies. My husband (who is Arab) really enjoyed it and said the flavors were very authentic.
