Golumbki, Polish goulash, and Traditional Trio Pierogi
    Logan S.

Starting with the pierogi trio, it provided a satisfying array of flavors, loved all the sour cream on the side! Hope to try the dessert pierogis someday! The goulash was the star of my meal! Goulash is a dish that relies heavily on the slow-cooking process to develop rich flavors, and it seems Babcias pierogis nails it in this department. The meat and well-balanced spices likely make it a standout dish on the menu. However, the golabki falls short of my expectations as it was under seasoned. The Golumbki, stuffed cabbage rolls, should ideally be bursting with flavor from the meat filling and the sauce. The lack of seasoning might result in a bland taste and a missed opportunity to fully enjoy this classic dish. But with a combined bite of the goulash I did eat all of the golumbki. The service was good and the ambiance is made up of whatever is happing at the broadway market which can be quiet, low-key, and a little eerie, but it can also be loud, busy, and eventful! Depends when you go! Overall, I will be visiting again!

Okay I'm a little late on this one but I got the Ruben pierogis at the fair this year and they were good. These are literal perfection. The lady running the cash register was also so sweet.

Babcia, Babcia Where did our love go? You don't make me Pierogies You don't make them no more That was by Diana Ross and the Supremely Good Pierogies. They have an amazing selection of innovative pierogi and the original kind are actually really good. It's just about a 5-star rating especially considering how lovely and enthusiastic and genuine the people making the stuff were. The prices are okay and everything I tried was really good. If you like pierogi you will like this a lot more than the ridiculous stuff served at places like Betty Crockski truck or whatever. At least you should, but there's no accounting for taste. Also I have a crush on the girl working here. But don't tell her. Oh wait I just wrote it on Yelp. Never mind. Damn. OK how do I edit this review. Anyone. No-one. Nobody. No. OK.

Babcia's pieorgies does a great job with: - coming up with unique fillings - presentation - customer service - price is fair - size is good There are only two downsides, both which I experienced today when I had their Buffalo Trio at the Erie County Fair, and a year ago when I bought their pierogies from their shop. The dough is too dense in my opinion, and the filling is not thick enough. The first time I bought some of their pierogies frozen and cooked at home, I gave them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they got freezer burned or that I cooked them wrong because the dough was tough, but today when THEY cooked them it was the same, so must be either the dough recipe or that the dough is not rolled down thin enough. Also both times the fillings just oozed out as soon as I cut the pierogi, and then it becomes flat, having to scoop back up the filling with the dough. I don't want to discourage others from trying Babcia's, as I think people should give them a chance for their unique flavors, but I make pierogies myself so I'm very critical. I also eat a lot of pierogies from different places and I have never had pierogies with such a dense dough. It may however be my personal preference, so I encourage others to still give them a try.

Babcias a Broadway Market staple, I stopped in here the other day with my mom and I needed some Pierogies! I got a three pack (3 of whatever you want) for $7 a fair price and I chose Farmer cheese and scallion, breakfast scramble, and sweet cheese all with sauteed onion and light sour cream. I waited about seven minutes and dug in and they were super tasty. I especially liked the sweet cheese it was so good! The farmer cheese and scallion and breakfast scramble were also good with lots of flavor. The folks working at their stand were very friendly and accommodating and I appreciated that they allowed me to mix and match my pierogi choices rather than choose one of their preconstructed trios on their menu board. I believe they're open every day the market is open so this would be a good place to stop in for a quick bite during lunch or on the weekends. I enjoyed it! I think you will too.

Tried their pierogi for the first time today at the broadway market and I have one word for them: AMAZING. The line is long with it is beyond worth it. My husband and I got the buffalo trio- three pierogi for $7.00. It comes with a buffalo chicken wing version, a beef on weck version, and a stuffed banana pepper version, each coming with their own individual sauce. They were all fantastic. I really enjoyed the banana pepper one. The service was friendly. They deliver on Uber eats. And they are open at the market during market hours. I cannot wait to go back and eat more of their tasty pierogi- next up is going to the dessert version for us I think!

After a long drive to have brunch somewhere on Elmwood, just to find the doors locked, I ventured…read moreover here to have lunch and it did not disappoint! First off, I was greeted and found staff friendly and efficient! You have plenty of options for seating .. dining area, front bar, back bar, even an outdoor patio bar. Although it is dive bar-esque, it was nice and clean (let's be honest .. some dives have a stench and stickiness that can definitely ruin your appetite, no matter how much you may love them). They have a set up for bands to play, as one was playing while I was there for their 2 year anniversary (congrats!). What was nice is although I could hear the band (it was playing in the back and I was up front), it wasn't over whelming me. I have eaten places where, no matter where you sit, it's extremely loud, and I appreciated that you had a choice here. Now onto the food: The food should have been doomed to fail; my tastebuds were prepared to eat sweet, buttery, syrupy French toast with a mocktail at brunch elsewhere. But wasn't hyped about the menu because of this (which is not dog and pony's fault .. I had to work and didn't have time to research where else brunch was available). I settled on the umami smashburger by a suggestion of my waitress. Now once again, could have been doomed to fail as I'm not a French fry person and my favorite cheeseburger is one I make on my own. BUT WOW their food blew me away and made me forget all about my brunch let-down. The French fries were fantastic and had a great seasoning on them! The smashburger was great to the last bite .. and I was NOT expecting to finish it as it was a really nice portion (I ate lunch now 10 hours ago and didn't need to eat again it was so filling!) but it was so dang gone good I sure finished it! Smoked cheddar .. chimichuri aioli ... kimchi bacon jam .. oh ya that bacon jam was EVERYTHING!! Thank you to the staff at Dog and Pony for making my long drive worth while!

I ordered the smash burger, my husband ordered the turkey sandwich. After we were waiting for our food for over 25 minutes, the server came over and said that he was just informed they don't have the turkey because they had an issue with that freezer. Ok, so my husband ordered the cheese steak because he was super excited for the bahn mi roll. My smash burger was alright, but the bread they use for their burgers remind me of those cheap buns you get from TOPS that just fall apart. The worst part was that they forgot the dog sauce on my burger, so I asked for the sauce, and THEY CHARGED ME FOR ASKING FOR SAUCE THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO ALREADY BE ON THE BURGER I ORDERED. My husband made sure to tell me after we already left because he knew I would have fought it and our already 1.5 hour long lunch date would have been longer waiting for the refund... He ordered the cheesesteak and the sandwich was so small, and the "bahn mi bun" wasn't even toasted which is a signature for bahn mi bread. He said the flavor was fine but nothing to rave about. The worst part, for me, were the French fries that came with both of our meals. They were soooo heavily peppered that they were inedible. We asked for ketchup to try to make them tolerable, and they gave us a pre-portioned small cup of ketchup... You serve french fries with most of your menu, why isn't there ketchup on the table?!? Overall, It was a nice place to have on senrca street which used to only have the blackthorn and franchescas, but I would not eat here again.

Some friends, my husband and I came here for dinner a couple weeks back when visiting the area, and…read morefound both hits and misses. The service was very good and it's a cute spot that I'd be willing to come back to. The best thing we had BY FAR were the beef croquettes. These were perfect, and I could have made a meal out of them. They had a tender birria like shredded meat inside with some cheese and probably some potato, I can't even remember but I do remember that everyone loved these. We also ordered asparagus, the Korean Fried Chicken, the shrimp with potatoes (all small plates) and one of my friends ordered the duck entree. My husband and friends had cocktails and mocktails; I didn't order one because they said they had nothing that was sweet. Incidental pet peeve: Saying "all our cocktails are balanced". I get it, you want to brag. But, some of us like things that are sweet, or as in the case of one of my friends, decidedly NOT sweet. If all of your cocktails are balanced the same way, it gives little useful info on what to order. I will respond to this by NOT ordering and sticking to tap water. I'd prefer it if you have a little something sweet and a little something not-sweet on the menu for those of us who don't actually want "perfectly balanced". That said, I did have a sip of the cocktails the others ordered. To my surprise, I liked the Broken Garden Tools. Though it wasn't particularly sweet it was also not super sour/tart and it was refreshing. I *could* have ordered that one, but I never would have known it from the description. I didn't like any of the others I tasted, but I can't remember what those were. Since I don't like whisky and I prefer sweet drinks, don't take this to mean that they don't have good drinks - the others enjoyed theirs, they just weren't to MY taste. Of the other dishes, I liked the cabbage that was on my friend's duck plate (I didn't try the duck). The asparagus was fine. The shrimp and potatoes was ok but not as good as I'd hoped for. And honestly, I didn't love the KFC. It didn't seem to be twice-fried and super crispy like KFC should be, and the sauce to me wasn't balanced between the sweet and spicy flavors I prefer. However, my husband liked it very well. The only other thing I'd caution is to double check ingredients. There was a dish ordered (I can't remember which now, some kind of bread maybe, but not listed as a bruschetta) that said it contained rosemary among other things but did not list basil. We saw no rosemary at all, but a lot of basil, which I can't eat. So I didn't have any. The others shared it. I would have been more disappointed had it been my selection. My friend noted that the server did not ask us about any food allergies, which, if your menu doesn't accurately list its contents, is problematic. Fortunately I know what basil looks like so no harm done. All in all, I would return, get lots of croquettes, order a Broken Garden Tools, and maybe try some other things we didn't get to. But I'd double check all the ingredients.

I couldn't eat the chimmichurri it came with as it has Thai basil (not usual in chimmichurri, but I'm allergic, and the server was very good about asking about allergies) but honestly, it didn't need it. The portions were very generous and I was pretty stuffed by the time I got home. Our portion of the bill was over $200 (hubs also had some cocktails and the steak alone was almost $90) but it was so good, we'll want to come back when we're in town for sure.

Living in Buffalo several years now, I've never been out to Hertel Ave to grab food and drinks -…read moreSurprising, I know! Thanks to a Yelp Elite event on Hertel Ave., I FINALLY changed that with a fantastic late dinner at The Burning Buffalo Bar & Grill. One of the main reasons I don't like to go out in Buffalo is parking - I'm always anxious about finding a spot that's close to where I'm going, as well as not having to pay for it. It was 7:45pm on a Tuesday, so street parking was free so one obstacle down, and amazingly, I managed to park right in front of The Burning Buffalo Bar & Grill, but across the street - I'll take it! Upon walking inside, there were a few tables outside full of people having dinner and drinks with one waitress managing all of it. I walked in and was surprised how big, spacious it was. First order of business though was hitting the restroom, which was on the small side, but clean. After that, I grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender was a young, pretty woman who was very personable. Unsure of what to grab for a drink, she asked what beers I usually go for and with that, she was fired off a few beers on draught I might like. I settled on the Jack's Abby Post Shift Pilsner and enjoyed sipping on that the rest of the night. She handed me the food menu and took care of a few other customers while I figured out what I wanted. I got it down to two items and I asked her for her recommendation, which was excellent and how I'd order, if and when I make it back. But similar to what other reviews on Yelp say, the atmosphere was very much like a neighborhood bar and grill, where everyone knows each other and if they don't know you, they're still more than willing to let you hop in and out of the conversation. I felt very comfortable sitting and listening to the "regulars" chat, watching a baseball game on the TVs behind the bar. So for dinner, I decided on ordering their Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich which is topped with lettuce, tomato, sriracha mayo, and cheddar cheese, with pickles underneath between a soft, brioche bun with a side of hand cut fries and a pickle spear on the side. The bartender recommended swapping out the cheddar cheese with pepperjack cheese, an awesome swap! The size of the fried chicken breast was HUGE by itself! I was so impressed how the well the sandwich held together as I devoured it. The chicken was hot, not greasy at all. The lettuce and tomato tasted fresh and looked crisp, there was plenty of that pepperjack cheese on top the chicken and pickles underneath. The sriracha mayo was excellent, albeit I would've liked more of it, I think more would've made the sandwich messy and hard to handle, so it really was the right amount on there. The hand cut fries were great as well; Crispier on the ends and softer in the center but plenty hot and not over seasoned. If you've seen other reviews of mine, you'll get the sense I have a pretty big appetite so I was able to demolish the sandwich but I couldn't finish all my fries, so that should be enough to tell you the portions here are HUGE and AWESOME! At first glance, the prices look expensive but I think they're justified as the quality and portions are phenomenal, I certainly felt I got my money's worth. I'm so happy that after several years of living in Buffalo, I made it over to Hertel Ave. finally! I'm also glad I chose The Burning Buffalo Bar and Grill for dinner. The quality and quantity of food, the friendly neighborhood atmosphere, the personable staff, what more can you ask for? I can't wait to come back and grab another Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich or maybe give their North Buffalo Cheesesteak a try!
