After the longest shift ever, my husband said he was getting subs. I told him I wanted a sausage and cheese sub. It's my go-to. We were going to get a salad, but the person on the phone said they ran out of salad greens. They did offer to use the shredded lettuce that they put on the subs and cover it with the toppings of our choice. We decided against it. Anyway, he brought our food home, and I was flabbergasted. The person on the phone made sure to tell us it would take 15 minutes to cook the sausage so it would add time to the order being ready. But baby, when I cut that sub in half, I knew there was no way it took 15 minutes. The sausage was barely there. It was laughable. There was nothing but salt oil and bread. I was so annoyed!!! All I wanted was my dinner after a long, hard day with no breaks and no lunch. And for that to be my first meal of the day for that kind of money, it's insulting. Tried both the meatball sub and the double steak with cheese. The meatball sub was really flavourful - loved the combination of the sauce and the dressing on the lettuce and tomatoes. We actually ordered a large meatball sandwich to share between the two of us, but as we were eating a bunch of people came in and everyone ordered the double steak with cheese sandwich! We were intrigued so we ordered a second large sandwich to share and I'm so glad we did as it was even better than the meatball! The only thing that would make me like it more is if the buns were toasted because they were soft and became soggy with all the dressing in the vegetables. I finally tried this place for the first time. I see the place before were under renovation but there is always a long line by the side window. Subs are made to order. I tried Viola's for the first time via their food truck downtown Buffalo. They have a great team in that truck and they made a long line move pretty fast. I just ordered meatballs and fries and I got my lunch within 5 minutes, I'd say. The meatballs were delicious, but I asked for banana peppers with them and I didn't get those. The fries were a very small portion, and for $5 should have been special but they were not. I think they were just frozen fries from a restaurant supply. They were not even as good as some fast food restaurants where you get a larger size for less money. I would like to give more stars for the meatballs because they were really good but I am disappointed in their business practices and will never visit the did trick again. They are charging $1 if you want to pay using a credit or bank card. That is unlawful and I hope people complain to Niagara county about it. They can charge less for people paying cash but they can't charge more for payment by credit card. read more

Second of all onions were diced , tomatoes seemed diced also cuz didn't see whole tomatoes, couldn't find cheese, and looked at grill as cook was cooking them , grill didn't even look like it was even on . The meat in sub was like two steak umm pieces and I was wondering why the guy behind me ordered double meat , that's why . Paper thin meat , no combos available, if u want bag chips it's the ones u get in box from Walmart for kids lunch bags for school not even a regular bag chips , hoagie roll was soft and great , other than that it's a no return for me . Idk if people who eat here just haven't had a good sub or hoagie or whatever you want to call it but if you have you know this place is disgusting ... couldn't even eat the sub it was so soggy and dressed In some nasty dressing only tasted like oregano and oil. I've been craving a chicken finger sub for a while and got one from Viola's. I'd probably skip it next time and go for what they are famous for (their steak hoagies). The chicken finger sub was subpar and I"m surprised they are cash-only during this time. The chicken fingers weren't very crispy and the hot flavor wasn't really even too hot either. The bread was OK, but toward the end of it tasted kind of stale. I also wasn't a huge fan of the sub being wrapped in saran wrap vs some other form of wrapping and thought the packaging could be a bit better for a to-go sub. This place came highly recommendrd to me by my father in law. We almost always stop here when we go to the outlets. It is cash only (almost always a good sign of quality) and they have a letterboard menu. My husband always gets the double steak and cheese, and I usually get the regular steak and cheese. Subs that come with "everything" have lettuce, tomato, oil, onion and their seasonings. It gives the sub an Italian flavor that you don't see at other places. This particular time I got a stinger and the fingers were a little soggy so I think I would just stick with the steak and cheese. It seems to be the most popular. I was happily surprised to find Viola's at the Buffalo Italian Fest this year. It had been on my bucket list and did not disappoint. A nice group of ladies and gents working that day, thanks! Their subs are unique for certain. They top them all with their special spice blend that they shake on with a shaker to give them an oregano blast. They have wonderfully tender steak and a smaller than average bakery roll with sesame seeds (not Costanzo but good). The smaller size makes you feel a little like your missing something because in Buffalo we are bred to know a Costanzo roll from the "other", but it also helps them keep it their own special thing. I would definitely get another sub from them if looking for a good steak and cheese. Personally I would skip the lettuce and tomato next time, but hey, I'm a real purists when it comes to steak and cheese. Don't like too much distraction from the goodness. read more

The restaurant itself, and seating area, aren't much to be described. Have a very old school field with the old booths that used to be popular "back in the day" lol. But, don't let that fool you, Viola's is a classic NF gem! You must get the steak and cheese sub, and you must get it with everything on it. I can sometimes be slightly picky with sub toppings. If I go to Wegman's or Subway I would never get tomatoes or onions on my sub, but at Viola's I always get everything. I think it must be their great combination of perfectly heated steak with gooey, melty cheese with the salad like combo of the onions tomatoes and Italian dressing that matches perfectly and creates a perfect taste. This is one of those feel good local restaurants. The staff are always super friendly. You must order the Steak And Cheese with everything, and then allow it to infiltrate and delight your mouth, one bite at a time. As for the sandwich. It's not huge, and it's not healthy, but it's delicious and also unique. The originality comes, I think, from adding Italian salad dressing and chopped salad to their sandwich. This gives it a totally different (and quite Italian) taste which cannot be found elsewhere. The original location on Elmwood in the heart of Niagara Falls NY USA is still my fave because it's older, colder, darker, dirtier, there's nowhere to sit, the workers sometimes have iffy attitudes, but somehow that older grill makes the best stuff. However this, the only other location, is right up there and tastes basically just as good, with the added bonus of them being open later, and there being plenty of seats. It's so good, that if you only try three places in Niagara Falls, it has to be a slice from Pizza Oven, the Beans N Greens soup from Michael's, and then a Viola's Steak And Cheese. Wow. In a region blessed with INCREDIBLE sandwiches (Sinatra at Marco's - Maple location only - tops the list, but the Super Haddock Sandwich at Bailey Seafood and the Hangover at Joe's are not far behind), Viola's easily makes the top ten - which is a very very hard nut to crack. According to the interwebs this area has one of the best sandwiches* in the U.S. Called a Stinger. I asked some locals who had the best and they pointed me to Viola's. At first glance the service was a little less than friendly but once I got them talking I think they were just very focused on their work. A smile and a hello probably wouldn't hurt business. I ordered the Stinger, a Philly Cheesesteak with a spicy wet Buffalo finger and blue cheese on white bread with onions, lettuce, tomato, and lite oil. The veggies were chopped rather than the traditional slices which made the massive sandwich very manageable. Not nearly as messy as I had expected. It was stunningly good. Literally, myself and 3 other guys shut smooth up at first bite and didn't recover until some time after. Sorry, I don't care about the steak and cheese and ordered a Royal. Royal it wasn't. Cash only? At least they had an ATM to get another $2.75 from you. I was handed a little lunch bag that had along article tightly wrapped in cling film sticking a third if the way out of the bag. I was a bit puzzled but went to my car. When I opened the sandwich, which was not cut in half, I found a sloppy mush of lettuce, chopped tomatoes, and oil sogging up the narrow roll. With nothing but cling film and a little paper lunch bag for protection I tried to eat this monstrosity. Any cheese that may have been on it had melted away and mixed with the abundance of salty, oregano flavored oil, leaving a slimy, not very tasty mess. I ended up pulling of the sausage and capicola and trying to at least eat the after handing over what added up to $17 if you count the ATM. After throwing half of it away, I returned to work and expressed my discust and was to by a co-worked that she had the same experience after a local told her it was the best place on earth. Violas has been a go to for our subs for as long as we can remember BUT this last time was VERY disappointing. I asked for no oil...it was drenched. I asked for provolone...there wasn't any cheese. The sub was small..narrow..soft and limited filling. The prices have gone up yet the quality has gone down. When I called to let the manager know how disappointed I was..letting her know about the oil and cheese she told me she wrapped the sub herself and there was no oil and there was cheese. I don't know it she thought I was looking for a free meal..but that WAS NOT my intention. I felt she was calling me out as a liar. I only wanted someone to know that a regular customer was upset so whomever put my sub together would do a better job next time.
