    Pierogi (Well, HALF pierogi!)
    Shauna P.

A friend is a big fan of this The North Star, so I was glad to finally get a chance to pay a visit. I can see why she likes it so much. Food, service and atmosphere are all stellar. Our server, Amanda S., was wonderful. The place was jumping, but she was still able to take good care of us. Soup of the day was beef stroganoff - quite unusual, but my friend enjoyed it. The steak and spinach flatbread was pronounced "awesome". A good sized flatbread loaded with steak, spinach, mushrooms, bleu cheese and mozzarella. Without the meat, that would be right up my alley. The strangest thing on the menu is Nana's Breakfast: a concoction of Polish sausage, homemade noodles and scrambled eggs, served with a side of cute little potato pancakes. Companion who ordered it thoroughly enjoyed it. Two of us ordered pierogi. I miss my late mother-in-law's best pierogi ever, but these were pretty darn good. For the sake of critiquing, I ordered one each of sauerkraut, potato cheddar, and farmer's cheese. They're served with sauteed onions and sour cream topped with chives. Yum. My favorite? Can't decide. I would happily order all three again, and I can't wait until I get the chance to do so.

    Shepard's pie

We stopped in unexpectedly after one place famous for roast beef was out of beef and another place was closing. Starved I ordered the Shepard's pie and was satisfied although they could maybe use a leaner ground beef as I had to spit out some chunks of fat. I do have leftovers due to the generous portion. My boyfriend got a side salad which is a bit much at $5 and a roast beef sandwich. He had to ditch the bread because it was soaked through from au jus. The accompanying fries were standard frozen fare. After dinner I got a Tom and Jerry, which was delicious.I'd rank it #1 of the three I've had this season.

Wonderful Buffalo Mac & Cheese, Bleu Bison Burger & Fingers/Fries! Kudos to this 1831 landmark that now serves yummy American food!

Great lunch 6/4/18 @ historic North Star. Foodie companion SG & I shared tasty home cut fries, & Buffalo Chicken Mac-n-Cheese. My chicken fingers were tasty & SG loved her Bleu Buffalo Burger. Attentive wait service. The renovation of location by owners/culinary purveyors resulted in warm, lovely atmosphere with some original stage coach stop features still visible for history buffs to appreciate. North Star gets my vote for a highly rated lunch stop - no need for a coach required to stop inn!

The sign on the door said they open at noon. So we settled into a park bench at the corner and watched people strolling in the sunshine until they open the doors. Despite all the enticing mini items, I ordered what I had been craving: the beer battered fish fry with all the sides. It did not disappoint. I have had a fish fry or two in my life, and I'm not gonna argue with anyone. Wallenwein's is my new favorite fish fry. There's plenty of food to choose from. Salads, soups, sandwiches, and wraps, pizzas, and wings. Everything that we have tried has been absolutely delicious! I love the primitive antique vibe going on in this 19th century historically accurate tavern.

It was good but I'm a Chicagoan so I have to say I prefer the Italian beef sandwiches over this. Beef on weck is more of a sliced beef served on a salted kimmelweck roll which has salt and caraway seeds and prepared horseradish on the side. Yes it was good and I'd probably get it again but if you grew up around here, it's a local fave. The place is like old rustic and had a nice vibe to it. Great service too!

Dipped in the amazing honey butter bbq sauce, then with potato chips on top . The waffle fries and blue cheese are a nice touch. I never had that pizza before, but I will definitely be getting it again. Flavor was great and it was cooked perfectly. Nice big chunks of chicken and the bbq sauce on top has the perfect amount so you are able to taste the whole pizza and not just the bbq sauce. The wings. Always amazing. We sat and ate at the bar as all the tables were taken and I was hangry. The bartender was amazing and didn't miss a beat even with the bar being full. We didn't feel ignored at all. We prefer the east aurora location. It feels more comfortable to us. Though the food tastes exactly the same at the north location so you know they have a rhythm when it comes to the food and service. I recommend to anyone.

Situated in a grand house, Rick's has dining rooms on two floors in addition to the front porch and the bar area. Seasoning food after the fact is fine, but never as good as during the preparation. My seabass was tasteless and was sat on top of a mediocre risotto...which is saying something since it was a Gouda and red pepper risotto. Also unseasoned overcooked green beans on the side. Criminal at the price. My husband's giant steak was also under-seasoned as were the sad mashed potatoes and carrots that came along with it. The steak was good quality, cooked fine, but could have been exceptional if it had any flavor beyond being a good piece of meat. The Thai shrimp appetizer was good but if you put Thai chili sauce on anything it will taste good. The scallop was decent but again not really seared well and lacking flavor even with the balsamic drizzle. Would not come back to waste hundreds of dollars on overpriced unseasoned food again. I will say the service was good and the staff were lovely. Too bad the food is mid. Drive to a real restaurant that cares about their food prep like Prescotts provisions or Oliver's or Black Iron bystro. Skip Rick's.

Not going to lie, it's nearly impossible to sit through a lacrosse game while smelling burgers from this place the entire time. We ordered burgers (split with my fellow burger lover) and chicken fingers for two of the kids, and the food definitely hit the spot after a long day when everyone was starving. The burgers were decent, though I would have loved slightly larger patties and a few more topping option. I'm all about an over-the-top handheld, so maybe that's just me. My only real disappointment was the fry portion size; I must have been spoiled on my first visit when my meal came with an overload of fries. One of my favorite features is the patio, especially during nicer weather. Service was good, and I appreciated the little outdoor station stocked with condiments and water, which was a thoughtful touch for patio diners. Overall, it's a convenient spot to grab a casual meal before or after games, especially if you're already at the rink.
