    Pierogi (Well, HALF pierogi!)
    Shauna P.

A friend is a big fan of this The North Star, so I was glad to finally get a chance to pay a visit. I can see why she likes it so much. Food, service and atmosphere are all stellar. Our server, Amanda S., was wonderful. The place was jumping, but she was still able to take good care of us. Soup of the day was beef stroganoff - quite unusual, but my friend enjoyed it. The steak and spinach flatbread was pronounced "awesome". A good sized flatbread loaded with steak, spinach, mushrooms, bleu cheese and mozzarella. Without the meat, that would be right up my alley. The strangest thing on the menu is Nana's Breakfast: a concoction of Polish sausage, homemade noodles and scrambled eggs, served with a side of cute little potato pancakes. Companion who ordered it thoroughly enjoyed it. Two of us ordered pierogi. I miss my late mother-in-law's best pierogi ever, but these were pretty darn good. For the sake of critiquing, I ordered one each of sauerkraut, potato cheddar, and farmer's cheese. They're served with sauteed onions and sour cream topped with chives. Yum. My favorite? Can't decide. I would happily order all three again, and I can't wait until I get the chance to do so.

We stopped in unexpectedly after one place famous for roast beef was out of beef and another place was closing. Starved I ordered the Shepard's pie and was satisfied although they could maybe use a leaner ground beef as I had to spit out some chunks of fat. I do have leftovers due to the generous portion. My boyfriend got a side salad which is a bit much at $5 and a roast beef sandwich. He had to ditch the bread because it was soaked through from au jus. The accompanying fries were standard frozen fare. After dinner I got a Tom and Jerry, which was delicious.I'd rank it #1 of the three I've had this season.

Saw this little bar when trying to find a new route and decided to try it out. It's very cute and clean inside and tastefully decorated. Was not very busy on Thursday evening but some seeming regulars appeared at the bar while we were there. We tried some beers off their local beers list which was written in pencil on our waitresses notepad. They were pretty decent. I had a wheat beer and my boyfriend had a coffee stout. We tried the fried homemade noodle appetizer and it was very tasty. Cheesy and buttery with green onions. I ordered the "Polska Best" platter and my boyfriend ordered a beef on weck with fries. The Polish platter was great. Everything was tasty and I cleaned the plate. My boyfriend said the beef was a little more done than he likes but it was still good. His fries were good too and I stole a few he couldn't finish. We'd be happy to come back and get a little dinner and a beer any other weekday night. I hope they're busier on weekends for their sake, but for us, we like the quiet. Very nice place.

Wonderful Buffalo Mac & Cheese, Bleu Bison Burger & Fingers/Fries! Kudos to this 1831 landmark that now serves yummy American food!

Everyone ordered off the menu so there were a lot of moving pieces. I ordered the roast beef on kümmelweck roll. The weck roll was generously salted and covered in caraway. The bun was lightly grilled in butter, which really makes for a great sandwich. The beef was piled high, it was tender, but it was well done. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this sandwich. Wasn't too busy for a weekend breakfast, food came out fast enough and the server was friendly. Food was ok; poached eggs on the Benedict were way over done, my omelette was luke warm. While waiting, we had to know the history of why it's called Iron Kettle Landmark Restaurant. Sure enough, we found that and a lot more. It's been around since the late forties, changed ownership a few times over the years, but current ownership is the reason neither of us will return. After learning of the current owner's legal problems, we quietly paid our bill, in cash for the 4% discount, thanked our server and left. I can't conscientiously recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially those with young daughters.

We ordered a small c&p pizza for our small boys, and a basket of calamari for them to share. Let's just say they're not quite ready for calamari, but the pizza they deemed to be quite delicious. My husband loves their broiled Cajun fish, fry so he ordered it again today. He got the baked sweet potato and mentioned how delicious it was. I went with the Greek Chicken Salad, a sheer delight with Greek dressing as well as tzatziki. The salad itself was built on a base of fresh mixed spring lettuces topped with pickled banana peppers, fresh grape tomatoes, sweet purple onions, sliced cucumbers. The grilled chicken cutlet was cut julienne and was strewn on top. Everything that I love in a salad. The plate was also garnished with a stack of baked flatbread triangles, which were nice and crisp! Two bartenders were waiting on the entire floor, and we noticed that they were busting their running back-and-forth. We applaud their dedication!

The two of us put our name in midday on a Sunday and walked around for 30 minutes to wait for a table. We ordered pizza rolls, a beef on weck, salad (needed something green!), and 12 medium wings. My only grievance is that I had to flag down a server (who wasn't ours) multiple times to ask for water, extra silverware, a box, and the check. Our table was in a prominent spot so that was a little frustrating. But we got it done and had a good time!

Seasoning food after the fact is fine, but never as good as during the preparation. My seabass was tasteless and was sat on top of a mediocre risotto...which is saying something since it was a Gouda and red pepper risotto. Also unseasoned overcooked green beans on the side. Criminal at the price. My husband's giant steak was also under-seasoned as were the sad mashed potatoes and carrots that came along with it. The steak was good quality, cooked fine, but could have been exceptional if it had any flavor beyond being a good piece of meat. The Thai shrimp appetizer was good but if you put Thai chili sauce on anything it will taste good. The scallop was decent but again not really seared well and lacking flavor even with the balsamic drizzle. Would not come back to waste hundreds of dollars on overpriced unseasoned food again. I will say the service was good and the staff were lovely. Too bad the food is mid. Drive to a real restaurant that cares about their food prep like Prescotts provisions or Oliver's or Black Iron bystro. Skip Rick's.
