My review isn't necessarily about the drinks/food--In fact, I come here often because I like the food and cocktails. BUT an interaction I had last night that felt really off. Not really sure if this bar is queer friendly, so beware if you fit under that umbrella. I was with a group of gay men, it was packed because they were closing out their old menu so drinks were $10 all night. There was a man that was sitting by himself and guarding one of the only areas of seating, we waited a good 20 minutes before all 5 of us took a seat. This guy tells us he has friends coming and we tell him we understand but its a crowded bar and you can't save seats for close to a half an hour. I fear this is common sense but eventually his 2 friends come over, theres definitely room for all of us to sit as long as we're courteous and not man-spreading but as soon as his friends walk up he aggressively yells and gets in my friends face to say "get the fuck out of the seat" --My friend gets up instantly. Like I said he's a gay man and a straight dude using his body and voice as a source of intimidation unfortunately works. but he knew that, that was the point. The volume and aggressive nature of how he yelled at my friend coupled with the fact that the bouncer at the door caught this entire interaction and did nothing made me think; maybe we're in enemy territory here. I've never felt that way before but it was really bad altercation. Not sure, if its a space that caters to infantile entitled men who need to be babied or if its truly an anti-LGBTQ+ deal but I've never experienced something like this at stache, tokyo noir, or v room and know if someone yelled at that volume/that aggressively this wouldn't of flown at those bars...but it was apparently ok at Baby Gee. So I guess my reasoning is: could be a place MAGA misogynist hangout at and are welcomed with open arms to behave in any manner they please or just an off night since cocktails were only $10 (maybe brought out an odd crowd) but still really disappointing to have a bar that makes drink specials when its pride week have patrons behave this way in front of the bouncer and leave it unchecked. read more

I love me a cute bar with delicious and innovative cocktails. The first attempt at this place was relatively close to when it first opened. My husband and I had dinner at El Barrio close by and decided to try to stop in Baby Gee after dinner (it was around 8 on a Friday evening). We were unable to fit inside lol. Therefore, we vowed to try again earlier and closer to opening. Time has gone by and with the Memorial Day weekend in play we decided to try our luck and ended up at baby gee on a Sunday at around 2:30 (opens at 2 on weekends). There were a handful of people and plenty of seats available, so the three of us took over a small portion of the long booth. I tried three cocktails- the happy pappy, the tiki noir, and the noodle knocker. My favorite would have to be the noodle knocker. Who knew that mezcal, coffee and passion fruit could taste this good together!!! Def solid. I also really enjoyed the happy pappy-it was strong but had subtle notes of sweet. The Tiki Noir was not like what you'd expect out of a tiki drink. It had a bit of a black licorice vibe to it. It wasn't bad at all, but definitely different! Alcohol is reasonably priced and comparable to cocktails you see while out and about. But quality and presentation of them all make it well worth it. I want to try their pizza next time! We just had a large lunch so we opted for the chips and pepitas dip, which was light, creamy, and delicious! Service: quick and friendly! Once it gets busy it's a bit hard to work your way to the bar to order but we never had too bad of an issue nor did we wait too long for anything. read more

Hip new bar in Long Beach! The interior is dim and intimate. The hanging lanterns are super cute and make for a trendy vibe. They have a long list of cocktails with different types of liquor. The two drinks we tried were decent, but nothing memorable. We've been spoiled by nice cocktails at other places. But, we still had a nice time with the locals and trying new drinks. I've been here a couple times on a busy weekend night and always adored the atmosphere, but finally decided to come earlier to try a cocktail and ...my god the worst old fashion style drink I've ever had and for $20 it's definitely off putting. I really can't help but feel it's just another example of gentrification trading in substance for comfortability as this used to be the red room one of the best dive bars in lb. Service was sweet and timely so there's a plus. Definitely just a cute little stop in a night out but not something to stand alone against the test of time. read more

Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for incredible cocktails and good food. The drinks are next level good with unique flavors. Service is super friendly. We dropped by earlier in the night and it wasn't too crowded. Loved the Sikil Pak and Chips appetizer. Plus loved every cocktail I tried. Merlin's Beard especially is a fun one. I'm genuinely surprised there hasn't been more reviews written for this new space! I came here with friends on a Saturday night since this place has been all the hype in Long Beach and was very impressed by it all. The place was absolutely packed with a very diverse crowd. The low-lit theme of the bar with the dark pinkish hanging lights over the bar really accentuate the bar area. We all ordered different drinks and were pleasantly surprised by all of them. This isn't a huge bar so quite a lot of people were standing around, but there is some occasional lounge space through the bar. I'd definitely come back when I'm back in Long Beach, and would try to do so on a week night or when the hype dies down a bit! read more

Wow. Wow wow wow. I am so grateful to have stopped by here last night. Such a fun vibe. Such a good menu. Such good energy. A very unassuming exterior arguably compounds the surprise of the scene when you walk inside. Are we in New York? Are the drinks $35 each? Will the staff be smug? The answers? You're still in Long Beach, just feels different for some reason. The drinks menu offers a truly diverse set of cocktails with all sorts of fun home made ingredients all priced between $10/$15. Everyone working there had a nice balance of fun and social along with the urgency to keep things moving on a busy Friday. The bites on the menu provide affordable tasty unique snacks. Heard of this spot thanks to the Eater article & had to visit because of the special connection to the name. A nice local spot & perfectly lively (but not too overcrowded) for a Friday night. Our bartender was super nice & welcoming, making sure everyone who walked in had a cocktail menu even if there wasn't an open seat by the bar. The bar menu had some cool artwork, including some drawings of a very cute puppy, who we were told is the owner's pup. Enjoyed the Butterfly Blood, which featured a lychee & wasn't too sweet. There's bar seating & also open table seating for groups around 3-5 people. It got pretty toasty in there, but it was nice since it's cold out. Will be back in the future! read more

Not the bar's fault, but parking is horrendous in this area. Spent 20 minutes looking for parking and finally found a spot that was about 7 minutes away walking. Just keep that in mind! I went last night, 12/14 because Beachwood Brewing was closed for a private event. We waited about 15 minutes in line because it was busy and packed inside. Not bad and totally understandable. We went in and it was still packed. There was no room to sit and barely even walk. Everyone kept bumping into each other. It is so small in there, I think they need to lower the maximum occupancy. We waited over 30 minutes in line to get a drink, and ended up never getting one. I understand it was super busy but if there are drinks that are going to take long to make, maybe it's best to just not offer them? I know it's for the holidays but knowing it'll be busy because of the Christmas theme, it'll be easier on the bartenders. Ended up going to the Pike down the street and got served immediately. read more

At last, Long Beach has a fantastic cocktail bar. The former dive bar known as The Red Room has been transformed into a stylish space with retro flair. The beautifully lit bar is decorated with eclectic antiques, and stocked with an impressive selection of spirits. Their illustrated cocktail menu offers creative twists on classics, and they even serve food. On a Wednesday night, the place was in full swing, but we managed to grab the best seats in the house: two roomy rattan chairs. The bartenders were genuinely friendly, and made great drinks. The "Dirty Dream" was the best martini I've ever had. This perfect cocktail contains olive washed gin, dry Vermouth, damiana, bay leaf, lemon oil, and a cerignola olive. My husband hates martinis, and even he loved this. The "Farewell Ophelia" was a wild ride of Belizean white rum, macadamia, passionfruit, yellow curry, and tepache cordial. Definitely add the spiced rum float for an extra $6. My husband had wine and beer, which they had a nice selection of. They even offered him the opportunity to taste the wine before deciding to order it. We look forward to returning. read more

One of the two bartenders kept telling my I'm next to order, but the as-usual endless flow of bartender friends kept coming in after me and getting served while I stood there waiting for more than 30 minutes. I eventually wrangled my friends together and we left. I've never tasted a drink at this place; and I definitely never will. This hipster joint is too satiated by its own self to serve customers, apparently. Avoid this place if you intend to enjoy a drink and are not best friends with the staff, I guess; otherwise you'll be standing there for days waiting to place an order that nobody will take. read more

Baby Gee's is excellent. We went early evening on a Saturday night. The bar still has two open chairs for us, but it was standing room only by the time we left around 8:30. All four cocktails were so good. We'll balanced, high quality alcohol and with different ice in each from a colorless rock, to cubes to pebbles. And they had a variety of alcohols and mixed of alcohol to suite your preference. And some zero-proof drinks that didn't look like you were drinking juice. Plus the bartenders didn't ask whether you knew it didn't have any alcohol, just in case you weren't wanting your entire table to know your drink order. THANK YOU! I wish this place was still the Red Room where the service was quick the drinks were cheap, stiff, and had $1 beer Wednesdays again. I hate this place with a passion, my gf however enjoys it. Last night we decided we'd go mainly for the festive snow show they have outside. We got there at 8:05 waited 45 minutes to be served a drink off the holiday menu. I got a pickle beer (because f*** waiting for 2 stupid craft cocktails to be made) They ran out of cups for the drink that my gf wanted I requested that they put it in a different glass that held the same volume and the manager proceeded to list off excuses of why they couldn't do that. One being our menu clearly says "while supplies last" it didn't say that I pointed it out and he backtracked and basically forced me to order a completely different overpriced drink. Definitely not coming back to this place for a very long time. read more

Baby Gee is an exquisite and slightly upscale alternative! The decor is perfectly Long Beach, in that it's cool, retro, and eclectic. Great variety of music, good food, and phenomenal service!
