Bent Up Cycles has a great selection and great staff. I recently "needed" to get a recumbent etrike, and they can be hard to find. Dana, the owner, guided me through their selection of etrikes--made trickier by the current pandemic and my own inchoate and poorly-stated desires--and helped me decide. I'm now riding my initially non-electric Catrike Dumont, with the Bosch motor arriving soon; they'll install it when the shipment arrives in a month or so. (Splitting this process helps me to get started riding sooner. Thanks a bunch, supply chain disruptions!) I was very pleased that Dana doesn't mind answering my noobie questions, like "How do I get on?" and "What kinds of locks work best with these?" I'm pleased enough with the whole experience that I happily traveled two hours there each way, once to look around and once to buy my trike--and I'll be going back for the Bosch motor installation. It's not perfect, of course. The terrain surrounding the shop is awfully flat, making it hard to see how well the gearing works. And it's too far away from my house two hours away. I'm 6'8", so this was the only stock trike that would fit me. My last two-wheeler was a custom-frame Gunnar. So I made the trek to Bent Up Cycles in North Hollywood from Orange County, and bought a non-electric Trek Max with XXL boom. Not cheap, but excellent value for a solid trike that fits me well. After a few dozen miles of cruising I will always be happy that I didn't try to go cheap. Particular kudos to shop owner Dana and his assistant, who gave me a terrific delivery fitting session. The initial ride around the North Hollywood neighborhood on Los Angeles city streets (no trails nearby) was nearly perfect. A couple more pre-delivery adjustments and the bike was ready to take on anything -- well, except maybe the Hollywood Freeway, which is unfit even for automobiles! And I love the nearly fluorescent yellow color. Incredibly visible even in late afternoon Southern California traffic. The bike fits perfectly into my Honda CR-V, and tomorrow I'll head up to Bonelli Regional Park in eastern Los Angeles County for the first post-delivery ride. I ride an older titanium Bacchetta Aero Basso and lead rides twice a week for the Greater Arizona Bicycle Association in Tucson, AZ. Under a year ago I purchased a second hand GreenSpeed Magnum XL that was a basket case. Although it was in horrendous shape the frame and wheels were great. I knew that I wanted a project to make it my own, I fixed or replaced the parts on the bike to make it rideable but kinda stressed out on how to make it the vision I wanted. So I reached out to Bent up Cycles thru consulting with them and their expertise the trike is now the vision. A Rohloff 14 speed rear hub that has been flawless, a Efneo 3 speed headset( I added ). Thru the experience I have learned that instead of trying to do it all myself it was so much easier( and cheaper )just to ask Raina for advice and have Her do the work. The new chain and flared chain tubes that were installed yesterday look absolutely fantastic, not to mention the beach ride after the install was the smoothest and fastest so far. The frustration these days is that the supply chain really sucks. It is not Bent up cycles fault that so many of the products needed for recumbents are just not available. I was able to order a new idler for my Agio. Hopefully it will not take too long for the product to arrive. The website is a little glitchy on my Mobile device, but it does work. I am looking forward eventually to receive a my new product. This is an incredible recumbent bike shop. When you're ready to go over to the dark side of cycling this should be your fist (and maybe) your only stop. Why call it the 'dark side? ' Because you only see FOGs (fat old guys) riding recumbents! I don't know about you, but I would rather be associated with a sport that has Lance Armstrong as our poster boy. So you gotta wanna really ride one of these bikes. If you ride a recumbent you will be laughed at and ridiculed by those snobby greyhounds on their $10K road bikes. I moved over to the dark side after getting a million bike fits to get rid of numb hands, sore crotch, burning feet and tight shoulders. Or maybe I should say tried to get rid of these problems inherent in riding a road bike. Enough about me, let's get to the review on the bike shop! I purchased recumbent bike in 2007 and love it. Now I want a trike. I stopped by yesterday and spent 3 hours at the shop. I was warmly greeted by Kate who took the time to get to know me and determine how much I know about recumbents. She took the time to educate me about the different types of trikes. I had done some research so I knew which model I was interested in riding. BTW - I brought my cycling shoes, shorts, and helmet with me. The trike I wanted to test has an extreme reclining position. But Kate did not let start with that trike. Instead I rode a trike with a more upright seat. Then I road one with a seat with more of a recline then I rode the one I was interested in (Catrike Exposition) . I felt like Goldilocks - this was too upright, this was too reclined but this one was just right! Kate made sure I had water between rides. We also discussed the pros and cons of folding trikes and suspension. They didn't have trikes with suspension but she said she would call as soon as they get some in.
