Our experience wasn't great. Started out well, but after our appetizers showed up in a timely matter, we waited more than 30 minutes to get our entrees, with no visit by our server to explain the wait. After we got them and we mentioned that we were beginning to wonder what happened, the response was, "The kitchen is really busy tonight." No, "I'm sorry" or anything. Then when we dug into our entrees of Beef Bourgignon, we found the mashed potatoes cold and the parmesan "crisp" soggy, with no crisp whatsoever. The flavor of the dish was fantastic but it was all mushrooms and carrots with hardly any beef. I'd say an "A" for ambiance, a "B-" for food, and sadly a "C-" for service. I liked our server originally - she was personal and attentive, but then as we waited an extremely long time for our entrees, she was nowhere to be found and never offered any kind of compensation. LOL. One of the worst experiences. Look at my other reviews. Hardly ever write bad reviews. Comedy of errors. Would not give us four top for two when place was empty. Took forever for cheese plate. When put cheese in to go container stacked soft cheese on top of each other. Waited one hour for steak - meat cold and super salty sauce. They offered to redo but was already too late so declined. Didn't even eat entree that cost 50.00. Best they offered was 10.00 discount. Silver lining though. Busser made sure we had plenty of water and seemed to care. Left him the only tip. Guess it was just a bad night for them. We all have bad days so found it hilarious and left with a very expensive to-go container of cheese. read more

I recently visited Bacchus Kitchen and enjoyed the entire dinner experience - From the initial walk through of the menu, the taste in food, the presentation, and to the attentive service provided by the server.  In particular, I wanted to highlight the exceptional service provided by our server, Amber.  Amber listened closely to my preferences in food and wine, did not rush when communicating, and made great recommendations based on my preferences - the Chilean Sea Bass and the charcuterie board was on point.  She also offered to provide a tasting of the wine recommendation so that I could be 100% satisfied of the selections. I've frequented several restaurants and the service provided from the server's professionalism, communication skills, and Amber's ability to connect with her guests in a genuine and authentic manner is unparalleled which creates a positive environment for both employees and the guests... which makes the guests feel right at home. We got a Travelzoo deal and used it here, which covered two appetizers up to $16, two entrees (I think up to $40, which covered almost all choices), and a dessert. We came on a Saturday night, somewhat dressed up because it has been close to two years since we had a dinner out without the kids. However, first thing we see is a huge table pushed up in the middle with kids on their iPads (at least they were older and not making noise). Not letting that or the fly inside bother us, I ordered a salad with mushroom bacon in it, which was pretty interesting. My husband got a chorizo salad, which was unlike any chorizo I had before, thin and not salty. We got a free little bite of a crostini that had hummus and chopped salad on top, which was nice. I ordered a flat iron steak. Overall, it was just okay. It came with a little broccolini and was served over a bed of some sauce I didn't like. My husband got one of their specials, lamb, which was decent, though remarkably it came with sunchokes which we never had before and enjoyed thoroughly. For dessert, we had some sort of blueberry yogurt tart, which in reality was a strangely dry crumbly little dome cake with blueberry compote. I was pretty disappointed and wanted to go elsewhere for a dessert, but I guess we were full. I would come back again to try other dishes. read more

We are extremely happy that we found this neighborhood gem. The kitchen churns out reliably good tasting dishes every time. The smoked trout salad was very good. It is not over-dressed and the trout is fresh tasting and not fishy. My favorite was the steamed clams and shrimp. The portion was very generous and the sauce was delicious. Even the two pieces of toast the bread was yummy. For the main course, I have the duck breast which was excellent. The only dish that I thought missed the mark a little bit was the gnocchi. I plan to come back to this restaurant over and over again based on our first experience here. read more

The steak frites at Bacchus' Kitchen are beyond delectable. My steak was cooked to perfection and those frites were super hot and crunchy and absolute perfection. I've been twice in the last month for this dish and both times the service was great, the food wonderful and the atmosphere just right. My mouth waters as I write this. I don't give out many 5 stars but I will in this case. Restaurants in neighborhood strip malls seldom provide great food, service and ambience but Bacchus' Kitchen does. The casually decorated space is homey and warm. Service is congenial but gives you space and time to linger. Food and drinks were great. read more

The first time I came to Bacchus was about two years ago, and that Bacchus was creative, thoughtful, and caring about the food, presentation, and its customers. The menu was filled with entrees and ideas that made me think "what will this taste like" but then after a bite, I had no regrets about ordering it. My memory can still taste wonderful dishes like soft shell crab tacos, a light but hearty summer squash lasagna, and pillowly beignets with chocolate hazelnut sauce. Now, the new Bacchus makes me long for the old Bacchus. The new Bacchus loves salt, nearly too much, on all its dishes, plating is empty and rushed, and service that is like a mother-in-law, polite but not overly friendly or welcoming. Our server was polite and greeted us but did not explain the menu or the daily special. It was very standard conversation and we didn't know if felt welcome or were troubling her. My sister and I visited on a Friday night, and we ordered the burrata strawberry salad, the flat iron steak, and scallops. The salad was filled with too much lettuce and salty dressing. It was a bit of an odd combination but nice on a summer night. The steak came out nice at medium rare but was plated a bit like an Applebee's--steak strips, potato wedges and green beans clustered together on too big of a plate. The scallops were great and I loved the corn custard but again salted and plated oddly with random red peppers to fill in the too much white space in the plate. And for $29 a plate, I would hope for more than 3 scallops. Please skip dessert. We ordered the chocolate mousse cake and it just tasted like a stale Costco cake. And no mousse was to be found anywhere. This is charming neighborhood restaurant but likely won't return soon. I would love for old Bacchus to reappear and bring back its creativity but for now, I'll have to relive my memories of the lost Bacchus from years ago. read more

Lovely ambience with live entertainment a good food and wine. The portions are nice enough to share. I had the skirt steak with Chimichurri sauce. It was tender and delicious / the sauce was very welled balanced. I look forward to returning and trying other entrees. read more

You'd be hard-pressed to find a better dining experience in Pasadena than Bacchus Kitchen. I've had the extreme fortune of being a guest here twice in the same week. The first time I dined as part of a work-related meal and was so enthralled with the food plus decor I related the experience in great detail to my boyfriend. He then made reservations for dinner the following evening. Ambience is wonderful; dim lighting, jazz in the background, brick walls and a medieval-esque chandelier. Parking is plentiful which is a plus. But the food is why you'll fall in love. Bacchus Kitchen offers a creative seasonal menu. I had completely different plates on both visits. I genuinely loved them all. My boyfriend immediately declared "we're going to be regulars here!" upon his first bite of the vegetarian Chile en Nogada. He is nowhere near vegetarian, by the way. It was that good! The tandoori seared scallops and housemade fries with curry ketchup were just as memorable. I wish I could recall the dishes I devoured at my business lunch but it was more discourse and less indulgence. Still, it was all a delicious blur. Cannot recommend more strongly! read more

When you want dinner that makes your stomach smile - come to Bacchus! Today I had their kale salad, squash lasagna, fries, and gelato. Everything was excellent. I hate kale (or salad for the most part), but the combination of peanuts and bacon, thinly sliced Brussels sprouts, and cheese was so delectably refreshing. And I'm a meat eater but the squash lasagna special sounded too good to resist. Boy was I happy with this decision! Overall - great as always. Bacchus is always a win! read more

Four of us went and three of us had amazing meals! Me--one of the specials. A ribeye, cooked to perfection, with morels. One of our friends had another special--a pork chop marinated in citrus and...well, I don't recall what else but it was moist, sweet and spicy. Her husband had the lamb belly. Yeah, I know...we'd never heard of it, either. But if it's still on the menu you should strongly consider it--if you like lamb. The only dish that seemed unremarkable were the cheese tamales. My wife was in the mood for comfort food and, while it fit the bill, it didn't impress her. Good service. Seated quickly. A touch noisy but such a nice ambience that we didn't notice. Prairie's Breeze cheddar with Apple Butter and Crostini to be exact. But then I got tempted to order dinner. Bacchus had their "Tuesday Night Supper Club" which is fancy, special dinner that are pre-fixed for around $28 each. Tonight - I got the Achiote Pork with a potato plank and grilled squash. I said I would take a couple bites and take it home. I ate the WHOLE PLATE. My mom got the 5 spice asian short ribs, and those were amazing as well. This place never disappoints. Anytime a new restaurant opens in the neighborhood, I'm going to try it out. That's what led me to Bacchus' Kitchen. It's in a good location near Washington and Hill, and they've done a good job of redecorating after the last place closed. The meal got off to a good start with the Bacchus salad, a tasty mix of greens, jicama, and yellow pepper. I got my hopes up, but then... The red wine by the glass was unfortunately served at room temperature - and it had been a hot day. Too bad, because it was a tasty Bordeaux. I also ordered a burger, not being real hungry. It came with frozen fries, dusted with garlic salt. Yuk. The burger had the consistency of meat that had been frozen and thawed, or microwaved, or both, and it also tasted of garlic salt. I had expected better, certainly hoped for better, and then paid for better. Oh well, the staff were very pleasant and professional. I only wish the food was good. read more

So I've been eyeing this place for a while since it looks really cool and trendy. Decide to have dinner there with my boyfriend on Friday and it was unsatisfying. To start, the ambience is really nice. It's cozy and chill and very clean inside. We ordered the charcuterie plate. No explanation of what the cheeses were or meats (I don't expect a whole history on each item, but a name would have been nice). The waitress said she would be back with the crostinis...and I'm waiting to this day because they never got to our table. Then, she didn't check in with us for a solid 20-25 minutes. The boyfriend and I were seriously considering if we should even order dinner at that point. We finally get our order in and that took another 25 minutes. I ordered the crispy duck breast and he got the pork loin. I am not exaggerating when I say the lentils that came with my duck were saltier than a cup of ramen noodles. I had to mix it in with the fennel to stop from cringing. The duck was too salty also, but I'll let that slide since the crispy part was good. My boyfriend's pork loin had a literal rim of spices on the side (which should be delicious), but tasted like a salt lick mixed with turmeric. I want to say I'll come back here again but the tab was over $100 and I don't think it was worth it due to over-salting the food and negligence in service. read more

We recently attended a chef's tasting dinner at Bacchus Kitchen to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were wowed by 6 amazing courses including homemade gnocchi, gazpacho, delightful fish and finished with a decadent chocolate torte - all with yummy wine pairings.
