Friends in Altadena are big fans of The Good Neighbor Bar and took me there Friday night to try the oyster and lobster food truck from Shucks. Since the bar doesn't have a kitchen, they host rotating food trucks six days a week--Taco Tuesday (of course), Greek on Wednesday, Triple Beam pizza on Thursday, and oysters on Friday. For the Win handles smashburgers on Saturday. You order from the truck and can either eat on the patio or bring your food inside to the sleek, dimly lit bar. It was too hot to sit outside, so we opted for the latter--and I'm glad we did. Our bartender, Miguel, took great care of us. We were there for happy hour martinis (only $10), and there's something hard to beat about a perfectly poured, ice-cold martini alongside fresh, briny oysters. A simple, excellent Friday night.

Went out with my fiancé to celebrate our anniversary and we wanted to go to a bar before ending our night. I found this place on Yelp & we decided to go. side note: make sure not to park in the parking lot right next to it! It's parking for the restaurant to the left of them. They said you'll get towed if you park there. We parked on the street but wanted to share anyways. I didn't expect it to be so cute when we got inside. It was definitely pretty busy, but had a good vibe going on. I think I got the zombie 1950's and my fiancé got a beer. The tiki mug was sooo cute. They also had free popcorn as a snack. I definitely would like to come back here again and stay longer.

Sleek, spacious bar located in Altadena. The cocktail menu is pretty large with lots of choices with different styles and is well categorized. The folks here are friendly and attentive. The vibe here is interesting in that I can see people getting dressed up and coming here for drinks before going to dinner or going to other events. I can also see people meeting up here casually with friends, etc. in order to grab drinks and just hang out. I came here right around the time before closing on a Sunday evening so the place wasn't packed (also, I'm not sure how packed this place gets because this was my first time here). Me and a couple of friends came here to get a nightcap after dinner nearby. I got the 'Port Light' (under the exotic/tiki section of the menu) because I do like tiki drinks and cocktails made with egg white (think gin fizz). I was tasty and served in a large tiki mug. It had a good amount of kick as well. I was instantly a fan. There was plenty of street parking nearby. Also, there is a large map of Altadena outside of the bar on the corner that shows the damage homes during the peak of the Eaton fire. It serves as a stark reminder of just the devastation the fire caused. But also is a symbol of resilience of this rebuilding community.

Very vibey, aesthetically pleasing, beautifully designed bar. Lots of comfortable seating. Definitely a change to the Altadena neighborhood, staff is super friendly, and quick Every time I've swung by. Popcorn is a fun addition! I wish the drinks packed a little more punch, overall always a nice experience swinging by.

Such a cute bar in Altadena of all places! Looks so unassuming from the outside but the inside is v swanky and perfect for groups or dates. Drinks are all reasonably priced and they have a pretty large selection.

Was only on the patio, so writing about that experience. Went for Taco Tuesdays by Tacos Casa. I know Good Neighbor and Tacos Casa are both good restaurants to support due to the fire but the experience was not great overall. Went at like 6pm, so mid-way through but sadly the food was not great. Cold, under seasoned meat in the tacos ($6) and the mulita ($10). (higher prices than in-store, which I guess is fine given they're recovering from the fire but $3 extra for the mulita is steep). Even dumping the salsa on did nothing and it all just tasted bland. Maybe their food is better when it's not from the pop up? Then me and my partner shared a hot toddy from the bar. Staff were nice so no complaints there but this (photo) is what showed up for $14 ($18 after tip) in a cheapo paper cup. (I know, they probably aren't bringing cocktail glasses outside or whatever even though I'm pretty sure I saw a bunch of pint glasses around but I digress...). It was made strong, which is nice, but damn. Anyway, I'm considering all this just charity money so it's fine but I definitely don't feel like I'd ever come here for this quality of food/drink for these prices if I weren't doing it to support the community.

Came here for a listening party for "Just Like Heaven" giveaway tickets. Doorman checks ID and you walk into a modern, cozy and moody bar. Drinks were tasty, and free fresh popcorn for self serving. Ordered a Triple Beam delivery which bar welcomed. Friendly service, clean bathroom, balanced drink menu, cute vibe and outside food allowed. Minus one star as I tried to plan an event here and couldn't get a hold of anyone via webpage, email or phone. Haven't tried the patio but cool addition of space.

A few girl friends and I tried this place around March, very close to the wildfire devastation of the Altadena communities. around this time people started going out again sans masks and even supporting Altadena businesses. I loved their charming cartoony drink menus, and they had quite a lot of cocktails. Their drinks were strong and tasty. The servers were pretty cute and they will give recommendations based on your taste, so always chat them up. ;) They dont serve food, but one of our girls brought something from Homestate down the street. Our group is quite large and they automatically tacked on the 20% service charge. They allow you to keep a tab open, and some drinks arent really that expensive but at the end of the night they do kind of add up LOL. Overall, I enjoyed going to Good Neighbor. My only gripe is that the bar interiors were pretty dark, which is nice for romantic couples maybe, and seating was super limited that we had to keep stealing stools for our newcomers. Also parking isnt very straightforward - I went to the lot south of the bar which apparently is not theirs but the wall facing is has the Good neighbor branding & art. I wasnt shooed away but the bouncer asked so I had to move my car to the dark street across the bar. There is another lot on the other side of the bar that is theirs. In their proper parking lot, they have this large map of all the houses in Altadena with markings of what burned, what didn't, and casualties. Heavy. You could tell Good Neighbor really cares for its community.

I like The Good Neighbor Bar. It's new, different and has it own vibe. I came here spontaneously after suffering from cabin fever due to the recent Altadena fires: I needed to socialize and bond with my Rancho bar people. Laid back atmosphere...wish they had a cigar lounger outside for cigar lovers. It was packed this Saturday night. Saw some if my Rancho peeps here. I wish they stayed open later on a Saturday night; closing at 23 midnight is way way too early.

Was reccommended this bar from one of the bartenders Nick, so we decided to check it out. Unfortunately he was not there, but we still enjoyed our time here. Pulled up around 10pm and we thought the bar was closed lol. From the outside if there isn't a line, it seems like it is closed because of the barred cages and white brick walls. To our suprise it was open because we saw the bouncer letting people in and out. We came in and the mood felt great. Dark, chill, and a bit romantic. They had bar seating available and couches outlining the entire room. We enjoyed a Tequila Mule and a Japanese Highball, both of which were pretty solid and had a good balance of mixer and liquor. Definitely a great place to hang out after dinner or a night out if you want more of a chill vibe.

I want to preface this review by stating I have been very supportive of Neighborhood bar since the fire by going solo, bringing friends, my book group, and my pickleball buddies. I was in last night around 5:30, not busy and grabbed a seat at the bar. I ordered a margarita on the rocks and a shot. The gal tending bar at my end was nice. When my margarita arrived, it was barely half full so I commented that if she wanted to fill the glass, she could feel free to drop in some tequila, to which she smiled. The glass had several chunks of ice and was barely half full, which was disappointing. I said nothing more as I figured she was a short pourer. After I had finished I sat with an empty glass and shot glass for several minutes til a young man came over and asked if I wanted a refill, to which I replied, yes. I was served the shot and again a margarita on the rocks which was less than half full. This time I realized that this is deliberate and not just one bartender. If you were to take the ice out, there would have been less than half a glass of fluid! As it was, I got three good sips out of these drinks, good thing I ordered the shots as the margarita alone was not gonna cut it. The photo shown is of drink number 2 but drink number 1 looked the same. Why the short pours? You are charging $12 for this and barely providing a decent drink. So my total with tax came to $52.68 :-( and then I left a tip which made the total more. Worth it...no. From what I've seen, Neighborhood Bar is doing quite well, along with the wine shop next door. I like to support individually owned/mom & pop places, esp places that have suffered a loss. I don't know why the drinks were being made this way but it's not worth it to me to drive 10 minutes and get short served. I wish them well and hope they have continued success.

Love the vibe here. We drank outside and were surprised that they closed so early at 9pm on a summer Friday night. The food trucks nearby were delicious but the menu became more limited when the kitchen closed at 7pm. Service was friendly and swift, though one server spilled a drink because our table made out of tree stumps (cute and eco friendly!) was uneven. Would for sure go back. The Altadena map outside is incredibly moving. Hope this place thrives.

Doesn't seem like much on the outside and when you walk in, it opens up to feel like an entire different universe. It is very cool and unique

The milk bread was complemented perfectly with the two butters we got - one sweet and one savory. The patatas bravas, omg, they were so delicious. Made with scallions and sriracha aioli, hard to dislike, when paired with perfectly crispy potatoes. As a gin lover, i was so intrigued by the sands of time, and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Who knew gin paired so well with the different herbals and ingredients paired in this drink?! So delicious and you can brew the drink longer to really let the flavors settle! The presentation, 10/10! I liked it so much I got it twice. My husband started off with the duck fat old fashioned. Had a dinner reservation with some girlfriends celebrating two of their birthdays. The restaurant itself isn't too big but it does a pack a nice punch. Cute patio out front that takes some of the sidewalks and streets. Plenty of heat lamps which helped with the chilly nights. We got seated at one of the tables on the patios which was nice. Didn't really utilize inside area except for the restroom which it's quite cute in there. The rooms were pretty well decorated and executed. Nice bar area too. Like mentioned, we got seated on the patio and the heat lamps were great. Down to the menus, it's quite limited on dishes. Seemed like there were more shared plates versus the entrees. Drinks, it was fairly decent with their cocktails and wine. Service at the beginning was great. The staff were amazing and very friendly. We didn't order right away as we were still waiting for the last one to show. But did start off with some drinks. It didn't take that long for the first round which was nice. Food wise, the shared plate was a mixture of everything. Some of the olives, which is exactly what it is. The Belgian fries, nice thick cut fries with shredded pecorino cheese and a nice aioli sauce. We ended up getting a second order of it. The albacore tuna crudo was a hit which was really tasty. Chili ginger relish, mint and shallot, can't go wrong with that. Lastly the meatballs, tasty and very great for sharing. Entrees, the pan seared sea bass which I loved. Portion is pretty tiny which also seemed like they were a shared plate. Almost tapas styled. Nice chimichurri sauce and a side salad. The chicken Milanese also with a side salad of arugula. Simple dish but quite tasty. One of the salads that was somewhat hyped up by the waitress but it was just a salad. Decent but nothing major to rave about...lol... also the confit oyster mushrooms was major hit. Something that simple but quite tasty. And lastly the pan con tomate, rustic sourdough with tomatoes and burrata. Tasty as well. Overall the meal was good. From there, the second round of drinks did take a long time to arrive and with then plates that we shared, trying to get someone to clear the plates was another thing. Took a long for someone to clear the table before more items came. Even when the entrees came, all the empty starter plates were still there. And if someone did clear the plates, some was still left on the table. Finishing off the night, we did have the dessert which we tried all three. As it was two of our girlfriends birthday, they brought out a little bubbly for us to celebrate with the dessert. That was quite sweet and nice. Honestly opinion with the dessert, they were just ok. Nothing major to rave about. We tried all three on the menu and they were just ok. Overall, the food was great. Service was nice and the staffs were all very friendly. It did take a while for plates to get cleared from the table and second round did take a while, but it was manageable. It was a sweet gesture with the bubbly with the dessert which was greatly appreciated. The place is nice and great for catching up. Menu is limited and portions are quite small. You would have to get a good amount for sharing. Entrees, depending on what you order is small as well. But we enjoyed ourself.

We decided to spring for valet parking for $8 but then realized there's 2 hour street parking for free just beyond the hedges in front of the restaurant afterwards. Oh well, it was a special occasion. We were seated right at 6 (the time of our reservation). The hostess also made sure we knew our server's name and brought us ice water. (You can choose bottled or tap). Our server's name Jennifer was friendly and attentive throughout the evening. We ordered the horseradish crusted salmon and the steak frites and our friends ordered the truffle mushroom tagliatelle and the filet mignon. We were all extremely happy and satisfied with our entrees. The portions are perfect. No doggy bags needed and no room for dessert. I really enjoyed the broccolini that accompanied my salmon--it was cooked just enough to retain a little crunch. The savory sauce on the salmon was subtle and complimentary to the flaky fish. We sat in the bar room of this restaurant that used to be a house. The patio looked lovely too, especially on a summer evening so maybe we'll choose that next time. Because you can bet there'll be a next time!

The space is cute and cozy. We enjoyed the outdoor patio more than anything else. The food was…read morevery average overall. The pesto pasta was over sauced served with dry chicken I couldn't even force down. The brick chicken was better but not enough to get me to come back. As for the service, I think he was too busy to do a decent job. We wanted dessert but gave up on that as we figured it likely wasn't worth the wait.

This bar is tucked inside Vroman's Bookstore (already one of the most charming and iconic bookstores in the area) so the entire experience feels like stepping into a warm, literary universe. You can browse for a new book, take in the bookstore's atmosphere, and then walk straight into the bar. Honestly, it's the perfect outing. What makes 1894 truly special is how intentionally it celebrates literature. Everything in the bar pays homage to the bookstore. The drink menu is full of clever, book-inspired names. You'll find cocktails like Pride and PearJudice Pride, Fifty Shades of Earl Grey, and other fun literary twists. Every drink feels like a little wink to readers, writers, and book lovers, and it adds such a unique charm to the experience. The vibe is super quaint and warm, dim lighting, and a creative atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. The wine is on the pricier side ($19-$21 per glass), but the quality delivers. Customer service was excellent. One of the bartenders spent time chatting with us. He pointed out a chalk artwork behind the bar a dramatic portrait he drew himself featuring expressive, literary-style faces, like Edgar Allan Poe, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, etc. It fits perfectly with the creative, bookish aesthetic of the bar. If you're into books, wine, and unique experiences, 1894 is a spot you absolutely can't miss. Perfect for a date, a solo unwind-with-a-book moment, or a fun night with friends who appreciate a good story and a great drink.

The bar has some great cocktails to try but I went for "Don't be a Prick." Yes, the name alone had me at "hello," but it was a prickly pear margarita which is my fav! I lucked out! It had fresh blueberries in it and was very good! My Yelp sister Nikki went for the same drink, my sister Sam got the Purple People Eater which was rum based with Ube syrup & my sister Hannah ordered a specialty mocktail created by our bartender Lou who was dyno-mite! We enjoyed the music while catching up with each other. Great hang for friends with plenty of tables and bar seating. *There is a quaint courtyard that separates the bar from Mills Alley restaurant which offers a "lite bite" menu to Behind Bars. *Meter street parking & local parking garages
