My husband and I attended a Progressive dinner hosted by Bacchus, Deluxe 1717, Woon, and Club 1881 with dessert provide by Bloomfield Creamery. We are very lucky to have such fabulous places so close to home. Began the night at Bacchus where we were greeted with a glass of prosecco. On to the party bus with a group of approximately 20 people for a short ride down the block to Club 1881. There we were given a choice of several wines, beers or a cocktail and served small bites of italian corndogs and a curried cauliflower wrap while a jazz combo played. Back onto the bus to Deluxe 1717 where we were served an hamachi crudo followed by a pastrami cured duck breast paired with two lovely wines. By then, we had made friends with our fellow diners including memorizing all their names. Off to Woon where we enjoyed homemade chewy noodles with beef and bok choy and MORE wine! From Woon, we walked next door to Bacchus. While piano music played in the background, we were given a choice between braciole and a crispy polenta and mushroom dish, served with MORE wine! My husband and I both had the delicious polenta, followed by super tasty Bloomfield ice cream. The night flew by. We went home with full bellies, and a slight buzz. What a FABULOUS night! Was running errands nearby and decided to try this place out. We didn't make reservations but they had availability and reservations are recommended. We wanted to be seated indoors but in order to dine inside, they required a proof of vaccinations from everyone in your party. So definitely need to keep that in mind if you decide to dine here. It's a real shame that this place gets a 3, it's solely for the food. Servers were extremely friendly and the ambiance was low-lit and cozy. Menu was curated for the day specifically, which was inventive and showed effort, but that maybe affected the food quality. It seemed like everything we had was simultaneously under seasoned and over salted. Thought it was just one item at first, but everything else sort of had that same vibe. Excellent Happy Hour! I had the grilled cheese sandwich with salad, delicious, with farmhouse bread beautifully grilled with yummy cheese! The service is always great, just enough help and the staff are available to answer questions at anytime. We sat outside, which we love, we had some sun on our table, however, the excellent server pulled a drape to filter the sun! I recommend Bacchus Kitchen all around! I want to say that this place deserves a better a review but I just wasn't blown out of the water the slightest. We came Friday night around 5/6 without a reservation and they said it would be hard to seat us at all cuz of the rush. The host was nice enough to check for us and sat us almost right away. There wasn't really a rush at all however. The environment is nice but the food wasn't anything amazing to me for the price. My boyfriend got the shrimp&calamari which tasted fine, and I got the porchetta which didn't have as much flavor as I thought. I simply wasn't impressed with any of it. read more

A wonderful place for excellent food and live jazz music. Our friends invited us to dinner here and I like jazz so we tried it and have been coming back regularly since. I am a foodie as well so this place hits the nail on the head. We went there last night and listened to the Katie Thiroux Trio and the music was great. Katie has a beautiful smooth voice and plays the bass and had a great guitarist and drummer backing her up. Now the food is beautifully created and interesting. I used to be a chef at a steak house in my youth and that you eat with your eyes before you eat with your mouth. Very true words and you will like what you see and taste. Uniquely prepared vegetable timbale, and the flat iron steak was perfectly prepared and delicious finished with a fabulous "slutty brownie"! The portions are moderate and you will not feel lacking nor over-full by the end of the meal. I have not been disappointed after multiple meals there. You really should try it. read more

Housed in a quaint brick building transports away from Pasadena and Western Europe. Bacchus' Kitchen is a New American take on classic, mostly European dishes. The wine bottles are modestly priced ($35-$80) with a few available by the glass ($13+). A handful of beer and water to choose from, including a 2019 vintage of Pasadena Water for $0 (we had a chuckle when we saw that on the menu). They also have San Pellegrino sodas and espresso beverages. We ordered a bottle of Altolandon Doña Leo (a Spanish Manchuela white wine), appetizers lamb belly and lemongrass curry with tiger shrimp & clams, main dishes pan seared scallops and beef bourguignon, and shared the panna cotta. The meal started with an amuse-bouche consisting of a crustini topped with a sliced and peeled tomato, sea salt, olive oil and fresh basil. It was a nice pallet cleanser for the appetizers. This was the first time I've had lamb belly. I've had countless pork belly, so I was intrigued to try a lamb version. Lamb belly doesn't have the same fat-to-protein ratio as pork belly, so don't expect a thick layer of crispy fat. The more lean crispy meat had a beautiful concentration of the delicious gamey lamb flavor, which contrasted well with the white vinegared apples and fennel. The lemongrass curry with tiger shrimp and clams were even better than the lamb belly. A lovely medium spiced lemongrass curry with fresh clams and large tiger shrimp. The two slices of rustic toasted bread was the right medium to sop-up the curry. The pan seared scallops were perfectly cooked medium with a golden brown crust. The tender center had a delicate ocean brine with a subtle sweetness. The large couscous with carrots, fennel root and garlic was a lovely side with sugar snap peas and wild mushrooms over a creamy tomato sauce. My fiance had the beef bourguignon. I only had a bite, so I can't go into too much detail, especially since it's not photographed in this review. The mashed potatoes were creamy and the mushrooms brought out the savory flavor of the meat. The panna cotta was amazing. The vanilla bean topped panna cotta sits on a puree of passion fruit and is complemented by blackberries. All in all, we'd come back for the lemongrass curry tiger shrimp and clams, the pan seared scallops, beef bourguignon, and panna cotta. read more

Amazing restaurant in Pasadena. Our company hosted a dinner event for ~25 people. The staff provided an excellent service and attention. We had a set budget per person and we were able to get a fantastic 3 course meal for an all inclusive price that met our budget. I cannot emphasize how amazing this restaurant is. The inside decor is unique and eclectic. Love the different doors as a display. As for the food... wow! Amazing. Delicious. The charcuterie was a great introduction to start off the night. Then, it was followed with our yellow tomato salad. Fresh bread was provided. I loved how I tore open that bread and you can see the steam coming out. As for the entree, I ordered the herb roasted chicken breast and cheesy polenta! Impeccable flavors were bursting inside my mouth. Last, but not least, the panna cotta. Visited early on a Sat. just after opening. The restaurant has a very comfortable feel and the service was excellent. We ordered the market fish, crabcake, fries, salad and mussels. Everything was great, particularly the fries. I love really good fries and the ones here are excellent (served with curry catsup). Food-wise, the only ding was that the mussels were quite salty and the lovely grilled bread had just a tad too much butter (but the flavor was good). We moved to the area a little over a year ago. My partner and I frequent the shops around Bacchus and were curious about it but never attempted to visit until recently. We both had little to no expectations. Once we did finally try it -- Oh boy, where do I begin! Our server shared that this was one of the best places he has ever worked at (for both the food and owners). We have tried some of the best restaurants in LA so we thought his statement was bold and kind of brushed it off. We started with burrata and beet salad and bread plate. The spread was beautiful on the eyes and our taste buds. The focaccia bread was warm and was given to us with butter and the most flavorful olive oil I've personally ever had. I had the jidori spiced chicken with Asian noodles and my partner had the risotto and salmon. Everything was like a symphony -- when put together, every flavor brought out the other in the most delectable way. For dessert we had the Father's Day special cake with peanut brittle and brûléed lemon. We devoured that within seconds. What we appreciated about the meal is how thoughtful each component on the plate was. Everything paired beautifully. We can't wait to try their wine pairings. This is an American restaurant located in North Pasadena and I swear, I never would have discovered this little gem if it weren't for a new friend I made! (Things happen for a reason). This place is called Bacchus' Kitchen. Now from the outside, it looks like a regular house. What I loved about this place was the free parking lot located on the side (Believe me, this is a plus for me considering most of Pasadena means searching for parking just to eat). BUT on the inside, it is decorated oh so loveely! The red ribbons in honor of the Christmas spirit. Check out the wine bottles propped upside-down in front of the light for the dim ambiance. And look at these old and rugged doors just propped on the walls. Who would have thought of that?? It's brilliant and it works! I like the decor. caprese amuse bouche. A little appetizer, compliments of the chef. This looks more like a bite-size of a caprese salad. Served chilled and was very refreshing! cheese & charcuterie plate. I think our first good hour was chatting away over white wine and cheese and meats. This IS my favorite part of the hour! Oh can these just be the only part?? Now every charcuterie board must have a creamy and milky cheese (this one is brie) and every plate must have a sharp cheddar. We also had some blue cheese, salami, sliced cured sausages and much moree! Some strawberries and fig butter in the centre thank you very much tandoori shrimp with quince chutney. I apologize for the dim lighting. I tried to do the best I can with my camera light without taking away the romantic lighting that the owner intended. 4 large jumbo size shrimps, perfectly seared on the edges and full of tandoori juicy flavors. pan seared gnocchi with house made gnocchi, panchetta, and rosemary garlic cream sauce. This was probably my favorite!! It's hard to tell but there is seared round and thinly sliced bacon on top (Reminds me of the bacon in Amsterdam). The gnocchi was crunchy and crispy yet soft and chewy on the inside. pan seared scallops with cauliflower puree, roasted cauliflower, poached green raisins, olive oil, and balsamic reduction. My friend convinced me to use extra lighting to take the picture and I think now you can see how white the cauliflower is. It almost reminds me of Elmer's white glue from elementary school.. Otherwise, the scallops were perfectly cooked into chewy softness and alternating with the more crunchy cauliflower for contrast in texture. read more

Very good food, attentive service, and a pleasant ambiance. My wife and I especially liked the fact that they are currently only seating patrons who can show proof that they have been vaccinated against COVID. We shared a salad to start, and then an appetizer of figs and crispy prosciutto; very tasty. For my main entree, I ordered the seared scallops, and the three large scallops on my plate were tender and delicious. I wished there had been one more, but perhaps I was being greedy. I've been to Bacchus twice now. Once about a year ago on a random week day and again most recently for Valentine's Day. Both times the wait staff was honest , knowledgeable and kind. Im no wine aficionado but I do enjoy drinking it. I was really impressed with the white wine selection and recommendations on my first visit. The second time around a little less impressed with the selection but they allowed be to try a variety before I settled on a bottle. For someone who wants to try new things but doesn't always know what to order, their occasional prix fixe menu offerings makes it easy in addition to mostly yummy. This is a beautiful classy-casual restaurant at an intersection full of great small businesses. We had a reservation for Friday, February 8th at 6:45PM for a party of two. The table was waiting for us upon arrival. I was happy to see this place doing a successful business on a Friday evening. We started with a delicious bottle of Spanish white wine, and we laughed at the Pasadena 2019 water that was on the menu. We shared two appetizers, two entrees and one dessert. The appetizers included a lamb belly and a lemongrass curry with shrimp and clams. The lamb belly was the only thing that we were not totally and completely impressed with. It may just be that type of food and possibly my intention of wanting to compare it to pork belly when I should not be doing that. However, the curry was absolutely amazing. It was a bit spicy during the first bite and then got better and better with every bite. For entrees we had the pan seared scallops and the beef bourguignon. The scallops were cooked perfectly and had a great balance between savory with a hint of sweetness. The beef was also delicious. It was tender and fell a part and came with a great mushroom, carrot and onion medley with mashed potatoes. For dessert we shared the Mango panna cotta and it also was amazing. The balance of the semi-tart panna cotta with the sweet mango made for a satisfying but not overly sweet dessert. I would definitely return to this restaurant again. read more
