Let me just start by saying this pains me as I was looking forward to dining here all week long as a post vday dinner for me and my husband. We arrived around 6:20pm, place wasnt too crowded. We were immediately greeted by our server James who was kind, polite, and told us about the specials for the evening. This was say around 6:30. After that it was all down hill....James forgot about us. We saw a large party order appetizers and meals, receive said appetizers and meals, pack up those same appetizers and meals and there we were still waiting on 2 entrees. Our server never came back to check on us or to provide an update about the status of our orders. We had to flag him down to get refills of our drinks. All the while other patrons are coming and going. By now, well over an hour had passed and we were maxed out on oil and crusty bread. FINALLY the food arrives, which portion wise paled in comparison to other plates around us. We dig in and honestly the food was fantastic, just could've been more of it. As soon as James sat the food down my husband asked for grated cheese. IT NEVER ARRIVED!! Also, I asked for no sausage in my entree, 1/2 my plate was sausage. I didnt even say anything to our friend James because it would have fell on deaf ears and would've took another hour. Completely defeated, anxious, and more than ready to go we had to flag down a young man that wasnt even our waiter in order to get to go containers and the bill. My husband barely ate his food because James who apparently had better things to do other than wait on us never brought the cheese. Many many minutes later we paid and left with any thoughts of returning extinguished. We paid good money to enjoy a nice dinner out and that was crushed by horrible service and zero apologies. We enjoyed our whoppers at Burger King we were forced to go buy in order to cure the hunger that lurked due to lack of quantity. To those who loved their experience, rock on. A cozy house that plays great Italian dinner music and not too loud considering the relatively small layout. Sebastien is a very good server. Courteous, professional and not hovering. I've been a fan of Bacio for years and just got a chance to check out their new location in Flourtown. It exceeded my expectations! We were greeted by their amazingly friendly staff Jay, Jenny and Josh, who are funny, attentive and on point with their service. We Started off the meal with the pan fried calamari. Let me tell you...everyone else has been doing it wrong! This is the best calamari ever! The linguine and clams in red sauce is as always, amazing if you like to keep it simple and the sweet potato gnocchi melts in your mouth. The portions are generous and there's always some leftover to take home! The pasta is all homemade and the ingredients are super fresh. It's BYOB but if you happen to forget your bottle they have a A liquor license and a bar with several options in the front. This place is perfect for groups or casual date night. Hi, I'm contacting you yet again over a $50 phone transaction that has yet to be refunded. I called Bacio and spoke with Jay (owner) on November 13th 2019 and asked if it would be doable to pay $50 over the phone to surprise my mother on her birthday since she had reservations on November 15th. These reservations were under her husband's name, *************. I was told this would be no problem (as it shouldn't be) and almost immediately after hanging up the phone, $50 was deducted from my bank account. Fast forward to the evening of November 15th, I chat with my mother after their dinner and she says no such amount was deducted from their bill. No one said a word about it and they paid full price. Obviously pretty frustrated that not only did my surprise fall through, but this business took my money without doing what it was intended for, I call to ask for an explanation. When I do get a hold of Jay, he tells me my money has been sent back and how dare I accuse them of being thieves. I never accused that, I understand mistakes, I merely just want a refund on services that were paid for and not provided. I tell him no such refund/pending transaction is in my account. That makes this man yell at me over the phone until I have to hang up. He tells me I should've emailed them, I say there isn't an email address provided on their website, to which he screams "IS THAT AGAINST THE LAW?!" I put him on speakerphone so my boyfriend could hear exactly how I was being treated. YOU are in the wrong, but you're yelling at me? I can not believe how this is being handled, what just happened?! I'm actually still in shock of the completely rude and chauvinistic "conversation", but thank you for it, my family will never be back. Please, refund my money, it's literally the least you could do. read more

We live walking distance to Bacio's old location, and have used it for years as our go-to place for quiet dinners as well as special occasions, especially loving to introduce new friends to the wonderful staff and excellent food. This past Thanksgiving weekend, we planned a vegan beer tasting for 17 people using the upstairs rooms in the new location. The lovely larger room was set up with a table that comfortably sat our group, and the smaller room was used for the buffet dinner and beer selections. Appetizers were set up in both places. We supplied the beer (which was excellent!) and a vegan cake, but I cannot say enough wonderful things about the AMAZING meal that the chefs prepared for us! Only 2 of the 17 people are vegan, but everyone loved the wide array of appetizers and entrees that we had. The appetizers included beautiful antipasti, vegan gravlax, fennel salad, grilled romaine, and incredible fried ravioli. The entrees included excellent eggplant parmesan, our favorite mushrooms with papardelle, and amazing tofu picatta. There were such generous portions that we had leftovers for several days! Jay and Tim helped us come up with a creative setup for the beer tasting and invited us to bring the beer over a few days ahead of time to chill in the walk-in. The Bacio staff couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating. Our guests, including some in the restaurant business, were so impressed with the variety and quality of the food! And this was a special menu to accommodate a special diet! I cannot recommend Bacio highly enough for special occasions. With general guidelines (vegan, no nuts) and ample time, we left the menu in Jay's capable hands, and we were blown away with the excellence of the meal and the whole experience! read more

Before I continue with this review, I want to say I'm being generous giving a star. I also want to add that I've been working in this business for a long time and never imagined any establishment giving me enough of a reason to go out of my way to write a review on Yelp. Though it can be very helpful to some, I don't always necessarily agree with it myself. I came in for dinner this past Friday 11/30 to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. Upon entering and up until we ordered our food it seemed very normal and comfortable for a restaurant experience. As soon as we started ordering our whole table had noticed the restaurant owner having a screaming match with a table of 12 next to us for whatever reason we weren't sure of. Not too long after this owner then proceeded to throw the entire table out of the restaurant after they had just received their entrees. Mind you the argument was only with one of the patrons initially at the table, which ended up being with a few more at the table. The way the owner acted made the entire restaurant feel extremely uncomfortable. After this had taken place we didn't see the owner for 35-40 mins and figured he just decided to stay behind the scenes because he was embarrassed about the situation. This I believe would've been a normal behavior after something like this has taken place. Before you know it, he appeared again to talk to another table behind us who had a complaint that their pasta was undercooked. He had the same aggressive attitude with this table and raised his voice with them saying "This is called al dente! Do you know what al dente is? This is how it's done in Italy!" He then proceeded to grab the customers spaghetti with his bare hand and fling it around in the air for the whole restaurant to see. Before I continue, I happen to be a chef who cooks for the owners of the Philadelphia Eagles. My family is also of Italian descent and I do still have relatives who live in Italy that I visit often. I'll tell you my take on the food: It's a poor representation of Italian American cuisine, the flavor was off, portion sizes don't match the price, THE PASTA IS DEFINITELY UNDERCOOKED!, and I've had better presentations of food from home cooks who don't do this for a living. I think the owner (who's name is Jason) doesn't have a clue as to what al dente pasta is. It was also boxed pasta none the less. Everyone at my table, by the way, didn't want to bring it to the restaurants attention in regards to our poor food quality because of the behavior we observed from the owner at the table next to us. Going back to the table with the so called "Al Dente" pasta issue, my girlfriend and a few other people happen to cue into his conversation. I mean- how could you not it's not like he was being professional about it. He then happened to bring that problem to our table because he felt as if my girlfriend was in his business by overhearing his unprofessional approach to another customer in the dining room. He then antagonized us and even asked my girlfriend to taste another customers pasta. He was so aggressive to the point where he caused two children at our table to break down in tears and also asked our entire table to leave his restaurant. We felt so bad for our server who apologized for Jays behavior prior in the night. We felt the need to shake his hand and say thank you as well and apologize that he had to deal with what he did as well. The owner stood there and said "Oh yea, you like the black guy? You think the black guys cool?" Just when I thought he couldn't get anymore out of line he proceeded to take it to that level. The crazy thing about it was the dining room was 85% full when he said it, with multiple races in ear shot, including those who were black. This poor server who was a black male was about to get into tears in regards to the way he was being treated. We also where upset and continued to argue with the owner because we couldn't believe how unprofessional he was. He then proceeded to call the cops on us, though he was the one who was completely out of line. Jay -I have to say you're a poor excuse of a business owner and lack professionalism and class. If you continue to run your business this way you'll no longer have a business and be a poor excuse to your family as well. If you even have one, I couldn't imagine someone with your character even holding that together. You should also consider spending less time responding to patrons on Yelp "Which you've claimed not to believe in so much" and spend that time fixing your poorly run half thought out restaurant. I do hope that nobody will ever give me a reason to have to go on this page and write a review like this again. People in Philadelphia and the surrounding area: There are so many great Italian restaurants and REAL ITALIAN CHEFS to experience. Don't waste your money on this low class business owner by the name of Jay on his 'want to be' version of real Italian fare. read more

I figured you would respond and blame us for your behavior. That is what you have done with nearly every other negative review. This just reinforces what many have stressed, that you have significant people issues. I imagine that you probably treat your staff the same way. At the end of the day they are the real victims since your public behavior impacts their income. Your former customers can just simply dial a different phone number when they make a reservation at one of the many restaurants you need to compete with. I was part of the crowd on Friday night that got yelled at by the owner because he screwed up on our table pre ordered dinners. I'm not going to go into the incident again (as you can read from previous comments). I can't even rate the food as the whole evening left a pit feeling in my stomach. I see there are several other posts that are similar to our experience. What owner of a resturant comes out of the kitchen yelling at his patrons when he obviously messed up on the order? What is all the pre ordering about? Shouldn't the entire table be served all at once? I'm all for supporting a local resturant but not Bacio. We were really looking forward to trying this restraunt. It was my mom's 75 birthday. Unfortunately I was not impressed. Our food took a hour to get to us. Then the linguine was chewy, my son had 2 small clams with his clam linguine. My shrimp scampi was good but to me incomplete there was pasta but on the side with red sauce. It would have been great if the linguine was with the sauce since the scampi sauce was really good. My father who never leaves anything on his plate left his linguine since the sauce was so oily. My review and rating is based on my experience and our party's treatment by you, which I found to be horribly unprofessional. And based on reviews by other patrons (who were NOT in our party) we weren't the only group exposed to your belligerence. *** I was with the group of 10 last Friday (Nov. 30th) who were treated horribly by the owner. I'm not sure where to begin, but I've never witnessed an owner of a business behave so poorly toward paying customers. When two in our party questioned why their entrees were late (the rest of our group had received theirs ~10 or 15 minutes prior), the owner was rude, combative, and more interested in placing blame on his customers than trying to hear their concerns and offer a solution, or at the very least - an apology. I enjoyed the food and the service from the waitstaff up until that point. But our table's treatment by the owner ruined the experience and I won't be returning. I think he would do everyone a service by staying in the kitchen and leaving front-of-house tasks to someone who doesn't need anger management. read more

People of flourtown run don't walk to this cute spot. What a great evening we had! Started off with a few pa liquor cocktails, nice touch keeping it local. I found it interesting that they allowed you to byob, with no corkage. We had a lovely antipasto with fresh roasted red peppers and roasted beets that were amazing. Then ravioli and papardelle w/mushrooms, both outstanding the sauces were both so good we had no problem sopping both up with some unbelievable Italian bread, the plates looked brand new at the end of our mail:) Now the ricotta cheese cake, imagine a cloud of deliciousness and this is it. Light, airy, creamy & just so darn good. Just a great spot for a lovely evening with wonderful food and ambience. We left with happy bellies. read more

Sunday night at 7, July 14th. Despite previous reviews we decided to try this restaurant. It was a very hot room until waitress put a fan on us - directly on us! Because of the setting sun shining in our eyes and since there were only 2 other groups in restaurant, we asked to change tables. (there were plenty of open tables) We were told they could fix the shining sun for us with a blind but came instead with a piece of insulation to hang over the window. . . The food! Our orders of calamari (mushy) and a "nightly special" of cod that was covered by a tomato sauce was mostly capers- an awful blend of flavor and much too salty. The waitress was good although anxious to leave. Not a good night and will not return. read more

The term "neighborhood gem" is overused but it really applies in this case. Jay, the owner and chef, is extremely talented and creative, and willing to accommodate special needs.Because everything on the menu is so well prepared--delicious, elegant, yet healthy--it's hard to single out any single dish, but some personal favorites are the calamari (with an unrivaled marinara and lightly crisped), the whole ocean (pasta with generous portions of clams, mussels, shrimp) and the cod (this is the only place I order fish). The vegetable sides are creatively prepared and quite good, the focaccia bread a favorite (the only place I know know where it's served.) Great value too. Highly recommended. Awful service, Calamari had a potent odor, we were left without drinks for about a half hour which is unacceptable in the service industry. We had to ask for all of our plates to be cleared. Entrees had clearly been sitting under the heat lamp for some time, the seafood dish was over salted. The Chicken parm which used to be my favorite at the old location was oversauced and soggy. The only friendly face was the framing owner from next-door who I guess also works there. It is hard to dine out when you have a ton of restaurant experience, but I promise I am not being overly critical here, it was a waste of 100 $. Food and service was on point, an excellent dining experience from beginning to end, we loved this place! Really authentic flavors, I'm not Italian but I've eaten at a lot of great Italian restaurants all over and this is what I imagine classic home cooked food like Grandma made to be. Just returned to bacio after a three year hiatus...the new place is beautiful and such a warm and comfortable space. More importantly, the food is still spectacular and their rocking the menu from the original joint. This is a great neighborhood BYOB. Very welcoming and good home-style cooking. I loved the Mt. Airy location and hope they do well in Erdenhiem. I visited with the expectation that I would have my normal great southern Italian dishes but the specials lead me in a different direction. We tried the grilled romaine salad which we shared (thank goodness because it was huge). Very good. I had the crab cake special. Best crab cakes I've had in a long time, perfectly seasoned. I've been wanting to come here for a while. It did not disappoint. Terrific food and friendly people. We had the broccoli rabe appetizer--yummy. My ravioli tasted fresh and delicious and my husband said his gnocchi was great. The complimentary bread was delicious as well. In a word: Superb! We arrived early but were promptly greeted and seated by the very personable Tim. What an amazing dining experience! For starters, the bread was the best! It was difficult not to ask for another basket. I ordered scungilli for my appetizer and Baba fish with crab and lobster sauce for my entree. It was accompanied by a small bowl of spaghetti with red sauce and roasted zucchini. My dining companion had the spaghetti with meatballs. Each serving was plentiful and incredibly tasty and authentic. I felt like I was actually dining in Italy! This restaurant is a gem and a keeper! Upon arrival my reservations could not be found and I was told the earliest table would be 7:30. I reiterated that I had made reservations both on line and by phone. My experience at the old Bacio in mt airy was delightful. The place was charming, the vibes were good and the food was solid. Everyone in the restaurant was friendly, including the owner who seemed to really enjoy his labor of love. My partner Becky went to the new location with her family several months ago and said that it seemed wasn't as good as we remembered. My guess is that the growing pains of living in a larger space, combined with a less of a "neighborhood feel" and more of a "indulgence for the privileged feel" because of the new clientele had worn down the spirit of the owner. I've worked every position both front, back and management in restaurants my entire life, over 20 years now. DC,SF,Philly and unfortunately the suburbs of the first 2 cities listed and I can tell you that the sense of entitlement is real. Bethesda, MD Lafayette, CA you can google the top 10 "most smug places in America" and you shall see. Currently I work at one of the distinguished few 4 bell restaurants in philly and have been there for 2 years. I can also attest that there is almost always a drop off in rating from open table to yelp. Open table is a more educated diner and yelpers are often about as sophisticated as a Trump tweet. The last time I had a guest complaint had been at least 5 years ago until a few weeks ago when I had a table in from this exact area. They never once expressed any dissatisfaction throughout the meal, the wife even made a joke about her dish as they finished the savory portion of their meal and I cracked back with one of my own and she laughed. While they were looking at dessert I had a conversation with a neighboring table about doing charity work with their organization that helps at risk youths. They were a larger group of 6 that were comprised of novice and rookie diners that required lots of assistance throughout the evening. After a couple minutes of chatting the man from the other table stood up and waved the dessert menu at me. When I came over he said they didn't want dessert any more. Since we were planning on sending them something anyways because it was their anniversary (something people usually like to relax and take their time with) I had pastry whip up a dessert on the fly and brought it out with the check he had requested and gave it to them "our compliments, because we wanted you to enjoy something sweet on your anniversary" as I placed the spoons down, he swatted his away. Like a toddler in a high chair who didn't want to eat his veggies, a 60-70ish grown man threw a tantrum at the table. He then proceeded to complain to the manager for 20 minutes on his way out because he thought the other table received to much attention compared to him and his wife. I personally think it's because it was the only time in his life he felt second class to a group of black people, but that doesn't really matter anyways. What matters is that some people are just a special breed. But we can't lower ourselves to their level, because then we become them. You don't know me Jay, but I'm sorry you've had this horrible experience in the new location. I hope you can find it in you to let things go. I get that it's a bunch of BS that people can go online and write reviews to try and effect your income, spewing so much negativity while hiding behind firewalls. But if you really grabbed someone's pasta directly out of their dish and shook it around in the middle of the dinning room, then you've let them get to you and if you're not careful you'll completely lose your way. I can tell from our brief interaction when I dined at your establishment, your demeanor and charm that you abide by the old adage, "if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life". Don't let them make you work Jay! Bacio is your labor of love, pour your heart out and don't worry about what anyone has to say. How you feel about the effort and energy you put in each day is all that matters. I hope this is the last yelp review you ever read and never look back! read more

Just had dinner tonight at the new location with my boyfriend and his brother. Loved the new look of Bacio; decor is elegant and classy. Greeted with smiles and sat down quickly. As an app we ordered the calamari and this was my first time ever eating this dish and it was delicious!! For an entree my boyfriend ordered pasta with mushrooms, his brother had the special of the night (trout) and I had chicken parmigiana. Everything was so yummy. Tim our waiter was always attentive and charming. Thank you to Jay (the owner) for a beautiful pre-thanksgiving meal. Everything was so great and I enjoyed my time. I've been meaning to write a review since our first visit to Bacio. We live in the neighborhood and have been waiting for a solid restaurant to open in the former Roberto's location - where we used to go on a weekly basis. The first time we went to Bacio - before the official opening - there was a dog wandering around the dining room. The servers bent down to pet and rub the dog, then carried our plates of food to the table. Yuck. I asked the server about it, and she said if we didn't like it, she'd put the dog upstairs. Frankly, it's not the customer's job to enforce hygiene and sanitation. We went once more after the official opening and the dog was still there. Management has to decide whether to keep the customer or the dog. Unfortunately, we're not likely to return. read more

Terrible experience. We were so excited to try this restaurant in Flourtown. We had a reservation but after 15 minutes at a very nice table we were asked to move to a smaller table because a table of four came in. We were surprised but obliged. After we were seated we had no water, napkins, salad forks. Basically forgotten. Next the meal. The pasta fagioli was decent but then went downhill. My salad with figs was wilted and no figs. And was suppose to be served warm. My husbands veal Picatta was luke warm and flavorless. My lobster ravioli was average. And then we were ignored for at least 25 minutes and when our bill arrived they hit our debit card for a party of six. Hopefully we will be reimbursed as they told us. I'm from the area, and was hoping that we had found a good local Italian restaurant close to us, but that was NOT the case. The plates were hot, but the food was cold. Unfortunately the mediocre food was nothing compared to our dining experience. I'm 60 years old and this was the worst, most unexpected restaurant experience I've ever had. Two of our groups meals came out 30 minutes after the rest of ours were served. When one of our friends who was served late complained, the OWNER came to our table and instead of apologizing, completely flipped out, was irrational, yelling at him calling him an ass****, and then grabbing other peoples plates at the table that were still eating their food, screaming JUST LEAVE! We were appalled and in shock at his behavior, especially as a restaurant owner, and boxed up our meals and left. It was completely inappropriate. The rest of the restaurant was staring in shock. Needless to say, we will never be back here or recommend this restaurant. read more
