I took the food to go as I couldn't stay plus they were preparing for a private event inside (there was outside seating though). The baked beans were good. The Mac n cheese was disappointing. It lacked seasoning. It also wasn't baked Mac n cheese (the menu doesn't say baked in their defense ). The bbq sauce for the sandwich was nice a tangy. The pulled pork was cool. Everyone was nice and the food came out quickly, but didn't blow me away. Since I was taking it to go I would have liked some utensils and napkins in the bag but I also don't ask for any. I had two family members that highly recommended this restaurant for barbecue. I was disappointed . I ordered a family meal for the Super Bowl . I got all ribs and received 4 small containers with lids of bbq sauce for all the meat that I had .The greens were so sweet with a lot of vinegar. Side of potato salad was watery. Green beans were bland, & Mac & cheese was just ok. I called the restaurant to ask about the 4 small cups of bbq sauce & was told this wasn't the normal portion and a simple apology. We purchased gumbo from this restaurant....not sure what they were thinking but it was almost $30, which is too high. The first red flag was when it was presented in a regular square takeout container, the second was when we arrived home and it was covered in barbecue sauce, finally this was not gumbo, there was no "holy trinity" of vegetables (celery, onions, bell pepper), no ochros, no liquid....it was just spicy rice with shrimp and barbecue sauce. I have nothing bad to say about this place. It was a spur of the moment trip because I was craving some bbq and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. It's a small, homey place off the high way, with its smokers and wood right in front on display making the area smell great. I couldn't imagine how much bbq id eat if I lived next door. The worker at the front was extraordinarily pleasant and helpful and when we sat down we were even told we could put anything we wanted on the tv because we were the only ones in there (I put on twilight) She explained the menu and we ordered the 2 meat combo. Soo much food for only $30! It was our first time there so they even let us try some extra sides, which I'd never turn down! The brisket was super flavorful and tender. The chicken was falling off the bone and not dry at all. The sides were all also very tasty, the green beans were probably my favorite. Everything is cooked separately from the meat so the sides are vegan! (Except the mac and cheese I think lol) the sweet tea was also delish. The seating area is pretty small, but it also wasn't busy at all. Even though I think it should be with the quality! The chef/owner (I believe) also came out and was super welcoming! Love the place. There's a hidden gem here and I'm glad I found it. This unassuming small restaurant packs so much into that little place. The portion sizes are astronomical, I can't make this up. I saw a platter come out and I pick up the pan thinking that all three of my orders were inside of this platter only to find out that platter was one order I will be back. Horrible. Ordered at 420. Checked at 520 and was told that the order was cancelled. They said they would "remake it". Arrived at 6pm. Missing half the order. What we got was bad. Chicken was burnt, dry and cold. Beef brisket was extremely fatty and dry. How does that happen? There was a hair in the Mac and cheese. I've had Barbeque all over the US and this is just not close. I am not a big complainer, but this was more than three strikes. I'll never order from this place again and hope others will not make the same mistake. read more

I found this place on my way back from work. I am very happy to see a family run BBQ in my area. When I walked inside, I was immediately greeted by the owner who took my order. He was very friendly and welcoming. His son finished my order and made sure that everything was correct. My food came out quickly, within less than 10 minutes. The food was great and I will definitely come back. However, although it was good, this was not the best pulled pork that I have ever had. I really liked the mac and cheese and baked beans. Their sweet tea is excellent - made from scratch. The restaurant was very clean and nicely decorated. You can either do takeout or order and then sit down and eat. I only gave it 2 stars because of the service. The food is terrible. The people working there are so caring and nice but have no idea what good barbeque is. I don't care that I got 5 pounds of food when it's all disgusting. Everything was gross but the collards. Who spends the 12-16 hours smoking a brisket, but doesn't spend the time to trim it before the smoke and then cuts it wrong so it's like shredded beef with huge globs of fat- smh. I also ordered chicken quarters and a shredded pork sandwich, but it was also gross. Please! I want this place to be amazing because it's so close to my house. I hope y'all can do better. read more

First time trying this place. I was so excited to bring bbq home in January. But.... In this food is inedible! The rack of ribs taste like a chemical of some kind. Not even lighter fluid. I can't identify it. Can't get past it. I literally washed (no soap) the ribs of then seamered them for a few minutes. Rinsed that off then added their bbq sauce. No better!!!! Taste like smoked meat for greens or beans. In the freezer it goes just for such. These were not in anyway bbq ribs. But they are good looking and meaty. Mac and cheese is like none I've ever had. I have ate here twice now but months apart. Simply don't get to this part of town too often but if I lived close by I would definitely be a regular. First of...what an absolute beautiful family. Both times I have been here Ron (the owner) and his family and employees have been beyond gracious and welcoming. They treat their customers nothing short of great. That alone makes them tops in my book. The food is good. I am a bit of a bbq snob I guess you could say. Yesterday I had brisket and wings with collard greens and baked beans. Portions are plenty. I couldn't finish it all. The brisket was cooked perfect and had a good taste but to be 100, it was not the best brisket I've ever had. (Would have loved more bark and more of a Smokey flavor) though It wasn't terrible or bad. Not at all. Just not the star of the show. I absolutely love the sauce they give you with wings. It's like a sweet/hot Asian sauce I guess. It's got a bit of heat and is oh so delicious. Collard greens and baked beans were banging. His bbq sauce is very good as well. Last visiting I had 1/2 chicken and it was excellent. I haven't ventured to their desserts yet but I will say....they look SO good. Next stop there (and there will be a next stop) I'll be trying the ribs and a dessert If you're in the area and hungry for some BBQ definitely stop in. We got the chicken platter came with two sides mac & cheese and coleslaw both were so good. We also got the two combo two sides we did ribs and brisket. The brisket was so tender it melted in your mouth. The best part is they put the sauce on the side so everything didn't get all over the place and super soggy. Well well well, looks like we finally are getting some legit Bbq in the south Jersey area. It's been like a desert around here so thank good for this spot. They have the usual suspect ribs chicken brisket and I think I saw fried catfish! I got the brisket and Chicken combo with 2 side. Mac a nod cheese and the collards were seasoned well and delicious. The brisket was moist,smoky and tender with a little bit of fat on it just like I like it! The chicken was a leg and thigh and cooked to perfection. I got the tangy bbq sauce on the side . They also give you 2 pieces of corn bread to round it out!! You cant miss this place with the giant smoker out front ,so I would make it a point to get here and enjoy!! read more

Drove 50 mins today to try this due to a recommendation from utube. I hate to leave a review like this. But, hopefully this business will learn from this. We parked on the side while waiting for the food and saw trash cans full of large canned goods. Not good. At least they didn't try to hide this. Hubby saw canned potatoes, canned collard greens, and canned green beans. We ordered a 2 meat 2 side platter for $25. Well, collards and potato salad had no taste. Ribs were parboiled then place on grill to finish cooking. Ribs lacked seasoning. Parts of ribs were so hard and inedible. I felt so bad for hubby. He had high hopes for this place. Just opened today. The pork ribs are amazing. So tender and fall off the bone. The macaroni and cheese is banging. The collard greens are cooked perfectly and seasoned so well. Green beans are just right. The homemade BBQ sauce was tangy in the best possible way, similar to North Carolina style, but not as vinegary. So happy to have good classic BBQ in our backyard. I stopped by Back Alley Barbeque ( Haddonfield Rd, Pennsauken, NJ) for take out lunch today. I came with my sister, niece and her two children. Since it was Friday, they offered fried fish. Well, we went straight for the fried whiting. The pieces were large, very fresh and lightly breaded. They were fried to a golden color and served with cornbread. The fish was absolutely delicious!!!
