For years I kept telling myself, "One of these days I need to get back to Big Swerve's." I used to visit when they were cooking out of the trailer behind the VFW in Woodbury, and somehow I never made it to their new location. After finally stopping in, I have one question... Why did I wait so long? This is, without question, the best barbecue I've ever had in my life. The first surprise was the restaurant itself. I knew they had a nice outdoor seating area, but I had no idea they also had a beautiful indoor dining room. It's clean, comfortable, and a huge step up from what I was expecting. We were greeted by the sweetest young lady named V, and she was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer our questions. Customer service like that makes a great meal even better. My wife and I split a full slab of ribs, and they were nothing short of incredible. Tender without falling apart, packed with smoky flavor, and finished with just the right amount of sauce. Every bite reminded me why good barbecue is worth the wait. For sides, we ordered the mac & cheese and their famous Mean Beans. I'll admit, I thought "Mean Beans" meant green beans. It turns out they're baked beans...and that's saying something because I normally don't even like baked beans. These completely changed my mind. They were rich, smoky, and absolutely delicious. Then there was the cornbread. I've had cornbread all over the place, but this was hands down the best cornbread I've ever eaten. Moist, buttery, just the right amount of sweetness--it was almost dessert. Big Swerve's has come a long way from the trailer behind the VFW, and it's great to see them thriving. The food is phenomenal, the service is outstanding, and every part of the meal exceeded my expectations. This isn't just another barbecue joint. It's the kind of place that reminds you what barbecue is supposed to taste like. Five stars isn't enough. Happened upon this place when looking for a dog-friendly lunch spot while traveling down 95. Excellent brisket with side dishes that are just as good. Collards and Mac and Cheese were outstanding, as was the luscious banana pudding. Generous servings; I just ate the leftovers for lunch here at home. We had at least a 45 minute long wait after our supposed pickup time. Twice. It would be at least four stars otherwise. But once we got our food: * Solid sauce for the chicken. Tenderness was on point, sauce was on point, but not at much as I would hope for the price point. I also learned the next morning that we got charged an extra dollar for asking for sauce to be extra spicy. Oh no. * Mean beans are worth it Get those meaty delicious beans. * Pasta salad is not worth it in the least. Mac n cheese is 450% worth it. Make that your pasta choice. * Very good cornbread, the right balance of smooth and corny. Nice size. * Spiciest sauce is fairly mild. I've apparently been here twice now and gotten the same result, so the same conclusion: Stick with Mission BBQ. But it was good to evaluate a local alternative in comparison. Came here one evening after work it's obviously a hit since there was a line the service was good helped us with what we were looking for they actually ran out of brisket by the time i got up to place my order but luckily i was able to try some of a friends!! Best authentic Carolina East Virginia style BBQ i have ever seen north of there. A bit of a hassle getting art the end of the line for desert, cornbread refills etc but still well worth it. Picked up food on 05/19/26 because I saw videos saying the barbecue was the best in Jersey. I drove a hour round trip and I must say the ribs, jerk chicken ,pulled pork and brisket had no flavor. I asked for all the sauce on the side but was surprised the meats had no flavor. The girl taking my order when asked questions keep pointing me to the menu which was about 5 feet to the right on the wall. They open at 12pm and I arrived at 12:30pm and their were so many fly's under the tint and the tables were dirty. Finally once my order was ready they forgot to give me my Half and Half tea and I had to show that I payed for it on my receipt just to get it. But the brisket. are you kidding me? that is EASILY the best brisket I have EVER had. Nothing short of outstanding. tender but not mushy. slices were excellently presented in the box. great color, not gloopy and over sauced - visually, perfect. but the flavor? unbelievable. genuinely the best brisket I've ever had, bar none. 10. The smoked chicken is a favorite of mine. The brisket is very good. His mean beans is his take on baked beans. You'll wish you ordered more. Was hearing good things about this establishment so I wanted to give it a try. Went to order the half slab platter, but it wasn't a platter. I had to buy two sides, which was confusing because it's a platter. But I still order it. Ribs were slim, Mac & Cheese was pretty dry. Let's start with parking. Not too much but still worth it. Now for ambiance.. it's mostly a to go but they have outdoor seating and some indoor seating that I think they share with another place. I called before going to dine and the employee answered all my questions with patience and what she wasn't sure if she checked. Arrive with my daughter and greeted by employee and we dined in. The dine in area is very clean. Waitress presented menus to us and made recommendations. I chose brisket, beans, and Mac and cheese and mild bbq sauce which smoky and I loved it. The brisket was so tender it melts in your mouth and full of flavor. The Mac and cheese was very good and the beans were simply delicious. My daughter chose ribs, greens, and Mac and cheese. The greens were seasoned and cooked that they were not too soft yet had a slight crunch. She picked out the stems as there were too many for her. I tasted the ribs and my, my, my, the flavor the tenderness and ribs are meaty. Cornbread was delicious with butter and still warm. The owner came to our table and spoke with us Inquiring how the food and service was. He informed us of the activities that take place at his venue. So I visited this establishment a while back and everything was good except for the baked Mac, it was very dry and no flavor. However, I came back a couple weeks ago for their peach cobbler dessert, & banana pudding which was absolutely amazing. I did go ahead and order again and I got the jerk chicken sliders which was amazing! Baked Mac was a lot creamier & well seasoned! No doubt a different cook made it!! I came during the dinner rush which I know can be stressful for establishments, however someone was yelling in that kitchen at the employees belligerently. Me and a few customers who were waiting on their food felt very bad for the employees who were getting yelled at. From what I hear there is no reason to talk to an employee that way! The overall establishment is good. Staff works very hard and is very friendly! I wish I could give them a raise myself! Shout outs to my other 2 local favorites of @auntbertaskitchen and @blowinsmoque These ribs were packed with flavor! They are grilled competition style, which means they aren't falling right off the bone. They have a pull to them, and your bite marks will be seen. This is my preference and how I even like to smoke my own ribs. Look at how beautiful that glaze is on the ribs. The bbq sauce was so good that next time, I'll ask for an extra small cup of it on the side. I understand not mopping it on though because the meat and the smoke are the stars of the show, and I am more than happy with that being so. Let's talk sides real quick. The mac and cheese is the bomb. It's easily a top 5 mac and cheese you'll eat in the soul food category. The collard greens, perfectly crunchy, perfectly peppery, perfect salt ratio for me. Whatever juices it was sitting in, I drank it up. Big Swerve is the real deal. I will go back for the brisket next. I got a recommendation from a customer who drove over an hour away to get this bbq to not sleep on the chicken as he was taking home 4 of them with him. And it comes with this special sauce wow the Brisket by its self was amazing the sauce took it to the moon the RIBS were tender and they melted in my mouth simple delicious pleasure the chicken simply delicious and amazing. Another spot ticked off my restaurant list, Big Swerves BBQ in Westville. Absolutely amazing food! My girlfriend and I decided to go, and we got the Lil Dip 2, which was 3 meats and 3 sides with a cornbread! She got the pulled pork tacos that come with bbq sauce and slaw and I got the bbq chicken and brisket sliders. We got the mac & cheese and pasta salad and everything was delicious! Reasonably priced too, coming out to $55 for a whole bunch of food!! I was genuinely surprised that everything was so good because usually BBQ spots have been disappointing in my experience, but Big Swerves definitely crushed that!! I thought the cornbread was just gonna be some little muffin, but it was a pretty nice sized chunk, very tasty and far from dry! The owner was also very social, and was talking to all the customers and was sitting at the tables and enjoying his spot! He conversated with us and explained how they got started and I was very grateful that he was interacting with his customers. The best meat on the platter was the jerk chicken, it was out of this world, cooked to perfect juiciness and the jerk rub had a lovely spicy kick. The best side were those magical Mean Beans, we could have them every day for the rest of our lives! In order of meaty deliciousness was the brisket, the brisket eggrolls, the pulled pork, and the ribs. BBQ chicken was slightly overdone, but tasty with the bbq dipping sauce. On the "sides" side, the collards were exquisite, the mac & cheese and the potato salad. The green beans were a bit too salty for me :-/. Of course the cornbread was moist and buttery, and I want a whole tray of them in my life. Finally the DJ on Saturday was superlative, playing mostly R&B, with both OG & recent tunes spinning. My wife and I tried Big Swerves today, overall it was an excellent experience. We were chatting with the owner Steve while we waited for our food and sat outside at the picnic like table. He is a great person, loves what he does and gave us the history of him making BBQ. Food wise, the brisket was falling apart, that along with the sweet and spicy sauce, would go back just for that. The jerk chicken salad was solid, came with lettuce, onions, tomato, strawberries. The BBQ Chicken also covered in the sweet and spicy sauce was good. Sides wise, recommend the cornbread, comes warm. The green beans and beans (which almost tastes like a chili) were good as well. The mac and cheese was fine, nothing out of the ordinary. My wife and I love BBQ, but this is one of the best places in south Jersey. I would recommend highly. read more

Hi making another review because I cannot reply to the reply back from the business. Thanks for the reply, but I have lived in Texas and this is definitely not how they make BBQ down there. Most of the BBQ is seasoned and falls off the rib. They don't need sauce and you have the option for the sauce. When we dined in your establishment your ribs had a full amount of sauce on them, so you contradict yourself stating that you do not put sauce on your meat. Just wanted to put this out there so that your patrons can really understand that I am not a novice when it comes to what real BBQ should taste like. read more
