Lovely environment with friendly staff. The coffee was delicious and the vanilla iced coffee was not too sweet. The pastries were huge and very well made with the donuts being nice and light. I was so excited to try this place off of the recommendations of so many people. I waited in line, and everything looked so delicious. When it was my turn, I ordered an iced coffee and an iced tea and two donuts. The girl working behind the counter kept putting the wrong donuts in the bag and then just kept trying to put more in. My fiancé & I ended up ordering two apple fritters, one butternut donut & one maple bacon donut - yes this was just for the two of us...The apple fritters are about the size of a baseball glove so it's better to share than try & conquer on your own (take it from me). The staff is very eager to serve. Last year my family and I ordered a birthday cake. The cake was outstanding. Not only was it delicious but it was customized to order. At night the lines for this treasure can be around the block. In the a.m. the lines could be out the door by 9 or 10am. In both cases it's advisable to wait they won't disappoint. As regular visitors to the Vineyard, we generally know the tourist traps and tend to avoid them at all costs. Back Door Donuts are definitely worth a stop (even though the lines can be ridiculously long) whether you are a tourist or local. But, picking your fresh baked goods wisely is necessary as everyone goes straight for the apple fritters. They are pretty yummy (along with the cinnamon rolls) but be on alert for new, unique donut styles as they seem to be even better than the old standbys. We picked up the new maple/bacon donut and although a very interesting flavor, definitely wakes up taste buds! Actually a step above the fritter/rolls--and we did a group taste test! OMG these donuts are to die for. The hype is true and real. I couldn't pass on the chance to not get them while at Martha's Vineyard so I bought a dozen of them. However, they are best enjoyed when they first come out of the oven. I tried the Boston Creme donut right away and it was just so drool-worthy. The outside was crisp while the inside was soft and filled with creme. There was no skimping of ingredients. I can't stop raving about them already and I'm itching to go back to just buy the whole place. The Boston Creme was so good that I even forgot to take a picture because I wanted to dive in already. Haha The service is also very quick and the employees were very nice and accommodating. The girl who took our order was nice enough to provide us with a reusable bag with "Back Door Donuts" on it; it's like a souvenir. They also came up with a nice system to speed up the line so the wait really isn't that long. All I can say is its worth the wait. The line does move pretty fast, and the donuts are well worth it. We were spending a lovely day out on my bachelorette weekend and smelled a wonderful smell. My sister all of a sudden realized what it was because she is local and had heard all about backdoor donuts but never had them. The glazed chocolate cake donut practically melted in my mouth and was quite enjoyable. The best of the bunch in my opinion was the apple fritter.
