Wow the morning bun is certainly worth the wait. We were advised to go early and no joke... My husband went about 15-20 minutes after they opened and they were sold out but he waited for them to make a new batch. It was so good. Tastes like a croissant cinammon roll. Congratulations! I have to say, after 15 years of coming to Nantucket, I have finally found the least competent business on the island! Beware customers: the morning buns that are out are not for you! They're for people who already ordered them. Guess what? You're going to have to wait at least an hour to ~maybe~ try an elusive morning bun. Wicked Island - Don't put morning buns out if they're already sold. It's messed up. Also, saying "I don't know how long the list is" when you have it directly in front of you is extremely rude @the people working behind the counter. Take online orders. Take phone call orders. I understand that you are a small family business, but I come from a family that has owned two different small businesses, one of which was a bakery. I understand the concept of stock and inventory, but your system is ridiculous and ruins the mornings of the customers who are only here for a few days and are looking to grab a pastry and go. If people are raving about your buns, why wouldn't you optimize your system to actually make everyone happy instead of catering to regulars? Cute bakery with a nice friendly staff. Great place to go if you are an early riser because they open at 6 am. The service was great and the shop smelled lovely. Had the lemon blueberry scone and a drip coffee. They had three drip coffee options and lots of milk, cream and milk alternatives. It's worth a visit for a pastry breakfast. read more

I unfortunately cannot even attest to the quality of the pastries as I was denied entry. I come over at 7:45 am (1:45 after then open), and the lights are all off, the door is locked, and there is nothing out. When I pulled up, a woman who I assume is the proprietor of the business did as well. I call the store multiple times, no one picks up. I am knocking on the door and making eye contact with the woman, and she slowly closes the curtain while making direct eye contact with me. Not to mention, it is pouring rain and I am soaked. We walked about a mile in a drizzling rain to get some morning buns and they did not disappoint. We also tried a honey bun- way too sweet and a scone that was just ok. I think because it was raining we had no problem getting the famous morning buns and no wait at all around 7, but it was quickly forming a line. read more

I had a similar experience to some other reviewers - staff did not explain their morning bun "process" well and it was very confusing. They were also fairly rude. Another patron who was waiting outside asked one of her family members to go inside to ask for napkins because she was afraid to go in and ask them another question because the staff "weren't very friendly". On the day I was there I went and asked about the morning buns - this was around 630 AM and they said they'd be out in 45 minutes. They didn't explain their "numbering" system where they give you a card until I went back in to ask about a bathroom (which they do not have - kind of absurd for a cafe asking you to wait up to an hour on site (they told me I shouldn't leave the property if I am waiting for the next batch)). About 20 minutes after I arrived morning buns came out, but the told me my number was for the "next tray" of buns and it'd be 40 more minutes. All of the other people waiting said they were confused and unsure of the process - this was about 4 or 5 other groups, so there were many confused patrons waiting around. The staff should to be able to clearly explain the system better. The morning bun was very good! But definitely not worth all of the above. I would only go there if you have time to kill and don't anticipate needing a bathroom during the hour they may ask you to wait on site. read more

Nice little shop, but a bit of truth in advertising is needed. Many reviews say their morning buns are great, but the shop should indicate on their web site that they are really only available between the 6:00 am opening and maybe, 6:30 am! After that the morning buns are pretty much no longer readily available. Maybe they'll make more, maybe not, and they can't tell you when they might. You can get on a wait list for the buns, and wait around, but as their employees say " there's no guarantee". Did get a blueberry muffin that was quite good though. Owner needs to train their staff in better sales technique. When someone comes in for the morning buns, and they're out, perhaps have your staff friendly say, " I'm sorry, but we're out, but perhaps you'd like to try a (name another product they do have available at the moment). They would probably get more customers to try other items from their menu, rather than walking out the door after just getting blank stares from the employees who are just sitting, waiting for the customer to say something else. read more

I have been going to WIB since it opened and have never had a bad morning bun, almond croissant or any other item from them. Yes many times they are not available because they are so popular and can sell out in minutes. The staff even when overrun with customers are polite helpful and friendly. The owners are always a delight to talk to and work incredibly hard to make these delicious treats. You might see me there as I've volunteered to help move on angry and rude customers who throw a fit if the product is unavailable. Wicked Island is one of the best bakeries on Nantucket! Their most popular item is the morning bun, which is like a cross between a croissant and a cinnamon roll. In the morning, they come out warm and gooey with a crispy, flaky exterior. They're the most decadent morning buns I've ever had and they feel really heavy (probably from all the butter!). They're so popular that they sometimes limit how many you can purchase. Along with a familiar selection of cookies, muffins, croissants, and breakfast sandwiches, they have specialty items like maple bacon donuts and "toad in a hole," which looks like a kouign amann with an egg and ground sausage in the middle. Selection is hit or miss depending on the time of day. If you get there when they just open, the baked goods may not all be ready, and in the afternoon they might be sold out. I found the bakery a bit hard to find the first time I went here. Don't give up if you can't find it right away! read more

Disappointed. Of course everyone wants to try the morning buns but they can only make so many. I got there around 7:15 AM but Once I heard them tell the lady in front of me that the entire pan in the oven was already purchased I got a raspberry muffin. There were only raspberries on top. Ok. The morning bun. Yes, it's delicious but, do not sleep on the donuts!!! Those little guys are the bomb! Tried to go in for an pastry assortment and was met by really unpleasant folks. Three different people took over my order, no one was clear about what pastries were "available" or not. I wanted more but ended up leaving with half the order I was supposed too because I felt so awkward. I am so incredibly disappointed with this bakery. We came here because the items we had last trip were of excellent quality. Members of my family and I went here 5 times in one week and EVERY time they were out of ALL croissants, morning buns and most muffins. At 7am. So we tried earlier. And then 820. The sales staff were unrepentant. They sold out a whole tray of morning buns (their signature item) in less than 2 minutes. They told us to come an hour later to then be told they sold the whole tray for preorders. Everyone in line with me said they had the exact same experience all week and were furious. I called to see if they had any of their amazing cinnamon roll donuts left. I called because we have stopped by several times at various times and they were always out. They were out again, it was 6:30 am. New batch ready in 30 minutes. I was already en route so I thought I would just grab coffee and wait. As I walked in, I was blasted by the heat in the store. I poured a coffee and milk. The milk was bad. Another employee remarked how awful it smelled. I poured it out. Another customer asked after the donuts, wanting to pay for them and wait. The counter person snapped that he couldn't prepay and would need to wait in line with everyone else. I promptly left. They need to figure out their production schedule, customer service and temperature monitoring on dairy. No donuts for you! read more

Thank you for saving the day...my father-in-law's birthday, that is! We wanted his favorite, a pineapple upside down cake. We tried another bakery and was told they needed at least two days notice. I found that a bit odd. We ordered two cakes $40 each and we couldn't have been happier. Not only were they beautiful, but everyone loved them. It was the perfect balance of sweet and moist cake. So glad we found them and now have a new go to bakery when we are here in the summer.
