New York Corner Deli was our breakfast place when we stayed at Topsail Beach in the summer of 2022, and at Surf City in the summers of 2025 and 2026. Conveniently located in the center of Topsail Island, it was a 15-minute drive from our 2022 Airbnb stay. With next two stays at Saltwater Suites in 2025, the drive was less than 5 minutes. In the three stays, we had breakfast here six times. It had everything we wanted. My son and I are sticklers for routine. In the first four visits, we ordered the same thing: 2 scrambled eggs with toast & home fries for me, and pancakes for him. Orders were placed at the counter. Then we went upstairs to the dining area and waited for the orders to be served. There were no issues with the order, food or service during these visits. In both 2022 visits, I had coffee; in both 2025 visits, I had Mountain Dew. Refills are free for both coffee and soda. My order tasted better than a similar one I had at Tick Tock Diner in New York City. It was great value for money. I always felt that I ate enough to last me through lunch. There was no reason to try anything different. Unlike Tick Tock Diner, NY Corner Deli did not have any TVs in the dining area. I appreciated this as we go to the beach to get away from the world. Furthermore, there weren't many people in the dining area whenever we were here (before 9am). Can't speak for the dining experience at any other time of the day. Things were slightly different when we visited in 2026. Pancakes were not available, so son had french toasts in both visits. In the first visit, I ordered my usual; in the second visit, I tried something different and ordered western omelet (with toast & home fries). Don't let the photo fool you. The western omelet was bigger than it looked. "Hearty" is an understatement. It was so filling that I skipped lunch and had a light dinner. Mountain Dew was no longer available as the establishment defected to Coca-Cola, so I had Coke Classic both times. If you like a decent breakfast and a quiet atmosphere, New York Corner Deli is the place to be. It will continue to be our breakfast place whenever we are in the Topsail / Surf City area. read more

The walls are covered in black-and-white prints of the Brooklyn Bridge, sepia-toned yellow cabs, and metal street signs screaming Broadway and 5th Ave. The seating is divided into two thrillingly average, non-beachy options: Upstairs or Downstairs. Both levels feature the exact same standard-issue, wobbly metal diner chairs, with vinyl tables upstairs. The menu is an everything menu, nothing specific, no specialties, consider this a one stop shop for anytime of the day. It serves up a breakfast that is heavy, completely unpretentious, and designed to fill you to the brim. Like the rest of the menu, it doesn't aim for culinary innovation; it aims for maximum density and they are open when everyone else is closed. A must if in SURF CITY , TOPSAIL beach on NC's soutern coastline. Great consistency of bagels, NY like. And made into sandwiches. My go to as I am originally a NYer (now a North Carolininan) is bacon egg and cheese (American) on a toasted bagel. Now my choice is always a buttered everything bagel, toasted. The conistency of a bagels with good consistency and just done right sandwiches takes me home to NY. Could be cause I believe the owners are transplanted NYers too. Place does great business in the warm months so expected a not too long, not to brief wait in line to order and receive the delish. Fair # of tables on 2 floors and outside permiter. Nice to have options. And enjoy the wall art of NYC experiences and sights. Like a second home for me when we stay few miles away at South Topsail at the SEA VISTA motel that is from the 1940s or 50s. Love all the vibes of this place and area. read more

Tbh it's okay. The quality of food is never disappointing. But this is something I've debated for a while and asking if their prices are fair. I can totally understand on why but my visit today felt like it didn't match. Just everything felt weak; both quality and quantity. Service has always been a real hit or miss too. You either get okay service or they just don't care, whether on the phone or in person. It used to be a really great place to go to for food but now just feels below average. It's a place I can only really go to every once in a while because of prices. I wish it was a place I could frequent more often. read more

They make the best New York potato salad. I have lived in NC almost 30 years and this deli is just like the ones back home only in smaller scale. Ordered a Jersey bagel sandwich, probably the worst pork roll,egg and cheese I've ever had! Bagel was gummy, 1 slice of really thin pork roll,1 slice of yellow American cheese and an egg. If your calling yourself a NYC deli you need to bring your game! I love coming here!! I've never had a bad meal! I've tried burgers and chicken cutlet sandwich and they were amazing but today I just wanted something easy and light.. I ordered a bit with side of macaroni salad! The salad has great flavor and has peppers and carrots chopped up in it.. nice light vinegar and mayo too.. my sandwich had lot of crispy bacon it was so good and they toast the bread.. so good just what I wanted.. it was a big sandwich so I ended up taking Mac salad home! The staff was so great! The young lady that took our order was very nice and helpful.. we took our lunch outside and they brought our stuff out to us and checked on us too.. great location a block off the beach and in shop center with other spots you may wanna go see. The food was good, however they messed up every single one of our orders and it wasn't until we opened up the food we realized every order was wrong and the café had already closed for the day. We ordered from their signature sandwiches with no added customizations, but each meal was either missing a staple in the described sandwich, incorrect breading was used, or a meal was just completely missed from the order. Look, this island isn't known to be the place where you scratch your fine dining itch. But if you want food that tastes great and is a better value than it should be, stop by the NYCD before 2pm (or whenever they close). Without a doubt, best breakfast sandwiches, bagels, cold cut sandwiches, and dare I say desserts on the island. Solid place for sandwiches and morning breakfast. Coffee is hot, not special but good and their BEC (bacon, egg, cheese) breakfast sandwiches on a kaiser roll or bagels are pretty good too. Luch sandwiches are delicious. Call ahead, place your order and drop in and get it. No sense in waiting for them to make it because you'll be there a while. read more

Cool little spot. It's tiny inside but has seating upstairs and the menu is HUGE. I ordered that avocado toast but they were out of avocado so my second choice was the meatball sub. Really good. My kids got the pancakes which were pretty standard. Husband got the Italian sub which was also good. There was an associate downstairs in the kitchen, however, who was blasting some comedy bit where every other word was a curse and played it loud so my kids and I could hear it all the way upstairs. Came here with my husband and we ordered The Jersey Breakfast it was really good. Will definitely come back. The only thing I would say is that the front staff needs to be a bit more friendly. I walked in and no one greeted you with a Good Morning or Hello. It was not the crack of dawn so can't say it was too early. All I'm saying is the front staff is usually the face of your business. You want to feel welcomed and if the customer service is not there it might not matter if you have good food. For some people that might be a turn off. Let's start with a compliment. The everything bagel, shipped in from NYC, was tops. Also they had Diet Dr. Browns, a rare find. Everything else was not so great. The restaurant is dirty, like we had to wipe our table down ourselves. Overall the place needs a good scrub down. I asked for pepper was told it was upstairs and when I went upstairs, most of the pepper shakers were empty. I ended up bringing them down for the staff. The pastrami is not made in house. The internet made this place seem like we were about to have an amazing breakfast before hitting the road back home. We had an idea of what we wanted when we arrived. The staff was nice and it was fast. They were out of the items we wanted (the Lox platter) so we had to make a quick decision, The line was long so I settled for a muffin. My parents got pancakes and an omelette and said it was a five star rating for sure! I felt like I had a different experience and may need to try it again. Disappointing visit. We ordered 2 toasted everything bagel platters which caused great confusion among the staff. In fact the first staff person had to get a second involved. "You do understand they are served open faced?" "You still want two?" My husband had to go next door to get my decaf coffee because they only sell regular and I proceeded to our seat behind home plate at Yankee Stadium upstairs. Food was not the well presented version we had last time. Bagels were very tough like they had been toasted and sat around for awhile. Cream cheese was clumped in the center and lots oozing out the hole topped with a clump of lox. I took it all apart and started over. A perfect place for lunch while spending the day at the beach. Having lived in North Carolina for a little over a year, I did long for a good New York style deli. This place offers a counter service so the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The dining area appears to be small, however, there is an extra seating area upstairs (there's also a few tables outside if you prefer to dine al fresco). Anyway, we decided to order the Reuben and the Beef Tongue sandwich. Service was friendly and it didn't take long for our food to arrive. Portion sizes were generous, both sandwiches were filled quite nicely. Sandwiches were delicious and hit the spot just right (the beef tongue turned out to be delightfully tender). Both sandwiches came with a kosher pickle. As for sides, we ordered the macaroni salad and the tomato & cucumber salad. The macaroni salad was pretty mediocre and a tad too sweet. The tomato cucumber salad was tangy, refreshing, and again, a little on the sweet side. Overall, the food was pretty good. Keep in mind, this place does close for a little while in the middle of the afternoon to prep for dinner service, so be sure to check hours beforehand. It's March in Surf City and we're eating lunch at a picnic table!! We ordered inside. The menu was extensive with sandwiches, and they were delicious. I got the liverwurst with lettuce and mustard on rye, and it reminded me of my childhood when we ate braunschweiger sandwiches. Yum. Also delicious were the Rueben and the turkey club.
