One of my all-time favorite rainy day activities. We love going with our littles but there are tons of adults having fun there too. They're creating a lovely third space here where people can meet up, relax, do puzzles and read. There's just about every type of physical media on offer from vinyls to vhs and of course books for everyone. I love that we're giving old books new life and also saving money while the kids get to read more! It's a win-win-win. We bought an entire basket of books for around $10 and I don't feel too bad when my 2 year old accidentally rips a book at home anymore. I really love what they're doing here and hope they continue doing well. I live 55 minutes away and I still venture to Book Rescuers because I'm obsessed with their values and business model. I've been coming here since before this location and the glow up is unreal. From the craft section to the magazines and the year round book tree....they just speak to everything in my bookish heart. I preach about this store constantly and share with whomever I can about how they take books in all conditions and upcycle them in any way they can. The sweet staff member at the front desk is always so kind and welcoming. Love this community! And you can't beat these book prices from $1-$3!!!! This is probably my favorite used bookstore that I've ever been to! They have a HUGE selection of books, movies, CDs, records, magazines, games, and more. The way the store is set up is well-organized and easy to navigate, which keeps it from being overwhelming with so many options. The prices are amazing, with most books being between $1-3 except for the special and vintage ones. The selection of DVDs is vast as well and those are for a super low price too! They have a big children's section in the back too, and even have some free supplies for teachers. The service is also great, the cashier was very friendly and checkout process is quick. Huge shoutout to the kids play area (little kitchen/blocks/coloring) that kept my littles busy while I browsed the kids section. First time checking out the Book Rescuers and it was very impressive!!! They have a huge inventory of books...over 1 mile long of shelving from paperbacks to hard cover books at very affordable prices!!! There are multiple sections in the store from a nice seating area, to an area full of vinyl records, cassette tapes in the front area. There are movies and more in the VHS and DVD format as well!! Everything is organized nicely throughout the store and they have tons of subjects covered!! Definitely recommend checking this place out for reasonable pricing on everything!!! This place is conveniently located on Ulmerton, which is easily accessible by car. The parking lot is some gravel some asphalt so be careful when you drive in. The staff are super nice and the selection of books is pretty wide range spanning from your typical Barnes & Noble's books all the way up to elementary school textbooks and college textbooks. The value of the books are pretty good considering they're at a very reduced price. This place also has reading glasses for the elderly or people who need reading glasses in general. You just grab them and wander around the shop with them on or take them home if you need a pair. People normally just donate their old ones to the book rescuers so it's very nice to see the community coming together for materials to better help each other. The donation area is towards the back of the store so you normally will just drive towards the back and drop them off outside, there is someone who is available to take them in. And this place reminds me of Chamberlain's book mine in Jacksonville, Florida, but in a smaller area and a lot less books. Hopefully in a couple years time, the book rescuers can be just as well known as the book mine in Jacksonville. read more

Everything is neatly organized and categorized and you could spend hours browsing their huge selection. We are from western NY and drove by this place on our way into Largo. From driving past I thought it looked like an interesting place but maybe a business that repairs and sells first edition books. In the community paper this week's edition featured The Book Rescuers. It was a sign that we definitely needed to visit at least once. I am super happy that we did. The store has all donated furniture and most books are donated. The owner built all the shelves himself. I was able to find an old 1000 pc puzzle that hasn't been sold for a couple of years and going for $35+ on Amazon for $5. $.50 per 100 pieces for puzzles. $2 paperbacks and $3 hardcover books. Sunday free books for Students, business owners, and some other programs. Free book on your birthday. We didn't select any perk since we were already getting such a great deal with the books. Plus one in our party had heard they are still operating on a loss. We had a hard time deciding which books to buy. The check out line was long the whole time we were there. Couldn't find a parking space when we first arrived and there had to be over 20 parking spaces for use...it was busy. Despite this demand, the owner truly showed his passion for books and this business. He conversed with every customer and treated them like they were old friends. read more

I found this GEM of a store while researching secondhand book shops to visit when I first flew down to see my daughter. Fast-forward several years and half-a-dozen visits later. It is the summit of literature and Shangri-La, if that could be a thing. Birthdays? Covered. Holidays? Check. Incidental un-birthdays? Yep! Last time I visited my daughter? My husband and I visited twice in two days. I hope to shop there again in early May. Although some of the shelves are not alphabetized (and that's a tall order at many shops, especially in gently used kids' books!), many the sections and collections are arranged in alphabetical order. If my biggest problem in life is having to check six-plus locations for Graham Greene (memoir, other biography, travel journalism, mystery, fiction, short stories), then I'm fortunate! I pack light but return with a case of BOOKS! Bibliophiles, prepare to spend at least two hours here. read more

It is a terrific store to find record albums, cassettes, dvds, cds, video games, vhs tapes, audio books on cd, and books. Prices are very fair: hardcover books are mostly $5.00; coffee table sized books are $5.00; paperbacks are $2.00; Cds and dvds are $1.00. I don't recall the price of the kids' books. They also have a free section of materials (notebooks, binders, etc.) for teachers. As a retired high school English teacher, I thought that was really wonderful. The store has done a fantastic job in categorizing books and dvds. Where the store needs to improve is their categorizing of cds. They do have certain categories: easy listening (Sinatra, Bennett, etc.) lounge singers, new arrivals, Christmas, country, soundtracks, etc. However, they have shelves and shelves and shelves simply labeled miscellaneous artists. Those are the ones that need to be organized and categorized. I found many cds in those areas where they should have been placed in other areas. To go through all those shelves takes a great deal of time, effort, and patience. Therefore, I just skipped most of those shelves and headed over to the books. There was also a shelf for Broadway shows, but there was no label showing that. I just stumbled upon that shelf by accident. At least the shows were NOT thrown in with film soundtracks. It is wonderful to have a store like this where one can peruse books and even sit and browse through them since the store has a nice cozy section for you to relax and read. read more

I was excited to visit! I saw this place on Tiktok and it looked amazing! I always love finding a new locally owned bookstore! But as I was waiting in line I overheard one of the employees very loudly tell someone on the phone that "Libraries just throw your books away." Depending on the condition, yes, libraries sometimes cannot take an item-- but this was just a blatant lie. I put my books down and left. I will not spend my money here. read more

Officially my favorite book store! I've come back to this book store three times and I always find gems. While it is somewhat of a drive for me, I really enjoy everything about this place! Always has great music. The staff is friendly and helpful. A nice section with banned books. Several book genres are available. Prices are coordinated by color. ($1,$2,$3,$5,$8) Today, there were these nicely wrapped books with no title just a note written in the front to leave you wondering. As someone who loves surprises, this was a sweet idea, so I bought one for $5 and I love the book choice I got! as far as location, I will say, it is in somewhat of a sketchy place...but even that feels like a romcom or mystery novel. It's hard to comprehend just how many books they have here. The back of the store is hardly visible! You could spends hours here if you have the mental capacity. Bring water and snacks if you plan to stay long, as the air conditioning is not good, especially in the back. I was concerned I had accumulated too many books for my budget, but it was actually a very good price - $28 for 9 books and 2 cds. A note: 50 year old books are $5 and 100 year old books are $8. They have pretty clear signs regarding price, but it gets a bit confusing when you're getting older books. I'm excited to go again next year and bring books to donate in exchange for credit. read more

Went here for the first time. Was impressed with the books they had. And this post is not about the store at all. It's about the customer service. I bought two 25.00 gift certificates as Christmas presents. I paid as request through Zelle. I left with the gift certificates and didn't realize I was not given a receipt. When I got home I realized the certificates were written out for 20.00 each. I drive back over to the store which was the last thing I wanted to do. A nice man at the counter didn't know how to handle the situation. He called a woman over and that's when things changed. I showed her my Zelle payment of 50. She looked at me,in my opinion, as if I was up to something. She then asked me who gave me the certificates. I said I don't know the person at the register. I said it wasn't long ago and it's the person who signed them. She said that tells her nothing. She then asked me to describe the person. I said I really don't remember. She said sarcastically can you tell if it was a man or woman. I said a man! And she walked off somewhere. I stood there for a bit feeling very uncomfortable. She finally comes back and says nothing and proceeds to write 2 new certificates. Hands them to me and says nothing again. No apology for me being inconvenienced, no happy holiday no nothing. Very disappointed because I was going to go back and shop for myself after the holidays. read more
