I was really disappointed by my experience recently because I had actually recommended this restaurant to the other guests with me, who had never been before. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with an over-hard egg, while another guest ordered the same sandwich with an over-easy egg. When our food arrived, the over-easy sandwich was correct, but the sandwich placed in front of me had an over-medium egg with a runny yolk instead of the over-hard egg I specifically requested. I always make a point to clearly ask for a fully cooked egg because I cannot tolerate runny yolks. I politely called our waitress over and explained what had happened. I told her that the sandwich in front of me belonged to the other guest, and that the sandwich they had received appeared to have been intended as mine, except the egg was still runny and wasn't cooked over hard as ordered. Rather than listening to my concern, she responded in a very condescending manner and insisted the order was correct and that we simply needed to switch plates. I explained that switching plates would not solve the actual issue--the egg itself had not been cooked as ordered. She eventually took my sandwich back to have it remade, but after that interaction she rarely checked back on our table for the remainder of the meal and seemed to avoid us entirely. I never raised my voice or made a scene; I simply wanted the food I ordered prepared correctly. Mistakes happen in any restaurant, and I am completely understanding of that. What was most disappointing wasn't the kitchen error, it was the dismissive response to a reasonable request and the lack of service afterward. This place went downhill. The classic high tea for $44 is outrageous. Nothing classic about it. They give you a sandwich with a mini hamburger bun, the scones aren't traditional at all and taste like blueberry cake batter. It's way way way overpriced for what it is. I asked the server if the tea was loose leaf and she said yes so I asked for more hot water. So she brings a pot of hot water. Turns out the teapot didn't have any tea in it so the staff just don't think. The server tried to take the order by memory and then she couldn't so I had to repeat the entire order so she could write it down. Then she still forgot to add a main course, so that came out late. When I was working in a restaurant I would have at least offered to pay for the coffees because of that kind of mistake. I asked another server for the bill. Instead of walking 5 ft to the till he wonders around the entire restaurant trying to find our server. I just don't get it. It would have saved myself and him time. Everything is just way overpriced for what it is. Nothing blew us away and there isn't anything we couldn't make at home for a fraction of the price and better. The restaurant had a long wait so we grabbed sandwiches at the coffee bar-- the chicken ciabatta and the egg sandwich-- both were delicious. Seating is tough in here so that part felt awkward. But we were eventually able to find something. The bookstore had a great selection of current fiction and nonfiction, as well as some backlist stuff. They also had a table of very cute editions of classics like Winnie the Pooh, Moby Dick, etc. The employees we encountered were really friendly, which I didn't expect in a space that felt so trendy. I have to subtract a star for the pricing-- it was bonkers. Like I said, we got food at the coffee bar, not the restaurant, but 2 sandwiches, 2 coffees, and a cup of milk were almost $70! I got a couple of books that cost $66 total, and my daughter wanted a cookie which cost another $10. Oxford Exchange is such a beautiful building and place. I am from Miami and was recommended to come here and with some friends and we had a great time. Not only is the place a restaurant, but it's a store, coffee shop, candle-making shop, and an event space. There were so many different things to look at it and I love that the building has a historic feel. We did come in for brunch and everything was fantastic. The champagne bar drinks were delicious and so was the food. I got the breakfast chorizo tacos and as a table we shared the brussel sprouts and the lemon poppy seed pancakes were to die for! After living in Tampa for 4 years, I finally tried Oxford exchange for brunch! Our group of 6 decided to spontaneously go to brunch on a Tuesday around 11 and luckily they had an opening for us! Parking is kinda tough, you gotta scour the street parking. Our server Nicholas was phenomenal - very attentive, quick to fill our drinks, and knowledge about the menu. As other reviews have said, one of the biggest appeals is the atmosphere inside. We sat in a huge atrium room with lots of light and plants. The bookstore and coffee shop is adorable too. Wish they had a place like this where I lived. Updated but yet Old school European glam atmosphere. You walk-in and it's a book store on the left, and a counter where you buy scented candles or make your own candle. Next, you walk through the corridor and there is an area to sit after you purchase specialty teas, or coffee and pastries/small plates. If you didn't make a reservation at the restuarant, this coffee shop offers some great choices to give you the feel of this venue without skipping on the experience of both the food and atmosphere. The beautiful staircase is decorated with a wall of framed pictures of distinguished people. On the second floor are offices, but also chairs and tables where you can hang out reading, doing work, or just enjoying the space below. The restaurant entrance is at the back area next to the champagne bar. While waiting for your table you can browse in the boutique shopping for unique but very expensive items, or order a champagne. It seemed to me that this store sold many eclectic items from different parts of the world. It was enjoyable to look at even if you don't intend on buying. You maybe surprised to find something you never thought you would buy but interesting enough to consider a purchase. The food at the restaurant was slightly higher than the coffee bar, but reasonable for the venue. We ordered a muffin from the bakery, cappuccino from the coffee shop, and breakfast tacos. All were delicious. Service from the reception to the waiter and the bus staff was exceptional. Whenever I needed something else like hot sauces etc, it came within minutes. I preferred the garden area/courtyard of the restuarant and felt more elegant than the indoor cafeteria area near the kitchen. One of my favorite spots in Tampa! It has everything I love all in one. It's a restaurant, bookstore, store, and coffee shop. This is quite popular place especially on the weekends. I made a reservation and glad I did because the walk up list had a bit of a wait. There is street parking as well as paid parking in the lot across the street. When you first walk in you get the bookstore area. They do a bunch of events here as well. The candle making area is also a bar and is directing across from the bookstore. It's worth it check out the bathrooms. It's quite large and very nice in there. Next, is the open and airy space where the coffee and tea shop is. This area is a walk up counter and you don't need a reservation to stop in. The day I went it was quite full. I will add there is an upstairs to this location with a relatively new recording studio and coworking space. Next, is the store where there's a bunch that of hidden gems. The champagne bar is over here as well. My group went for brunch the day we went. I got the avocado toast and the brussel sprouts. As a fan of both, it didn't disappoint. And both were huge and fresh. The table split the ricotta and honey cheese and naan bread. The lemon blueberry pancakes were also a hit. I'm not a big fan on of cake in general but I heard the yellow cake was great. It was the perfect mixture of light and dense and the chocolate icing was to die for. It was the perfect compliment to the cake. There's so much to do here you could easily spend a good couple hours here. It's also a great spot to stop on your way to other fun activities in the area. I LOVE taking friends from out of town here because it's just so aesthetically pleasing. There are so many great photo ops! The food is hit or miss, and I can say the same for their coffee. Though the staff is usually so friendly, it's very busy ALL THE TIME and I feel we're always waiting around. Oxford Exchange never disappoints. First of all, the entire aesthetic is a 10/10. I wish this place was open when I was a student at UT because I would have been here every single day. I always start my visit here at the bookstore. They have so many signed books and the staff are always full of recommendations. We went yesterday for an early birthday celebration and although it was packed, we were seated at the time of our reservation. I ordered the lavendar latte off their spring menu and a glass of summer in the bottle rose. They had deviled eggs and a special eggs benedict for Easter weekend. I ended up ordering the steak sandwich with the spicy sweet potato fries. I have never gotten this before and it was amazing. It does get a noisy because there's so many people having conversation and apparently it's so open there's nothing really breaking up the noise but you know what don't care the food is that good the atmosphere is that good everything about it is amazing. Great lunch at OE... even for a busy afternoon- we were seated right away. Lunch was prompt, service was vey attentive and the food was good. Ok, it was better than just "good". Portions were large enough, temperature was right. So let's go with "very good" If I had one complaint, it was the noise. An important thing to note about this establishment is yes there is a restaurant however there is also a bookstore and cafés within the building that are absolutely beautiful. Due to popularity I highly recommend making your reservation at the restaurant. There is street parking for a fee and also usually a parking lot across the street that you can pay to park in. I came with my girlfriends for a late lunch and wine. The Brussels sprouts and with feta were amazing. I highly recommend getting those. The drinks were also very good and strong.
