I love the burgers. Our first time here. After we ordered our food, I thought, should I have ordered a double patty? Once the burgers arrived I was quickly relieved and extremely happy to see the size of the meat. Thick big, crispy on the outside, delicious on the inside. The bun is fluffy and soft, the perfect vessel for that meat. I had the stoneman burger with guacamole, bacon, onion and bbq sauce. All the toppings are very small portion, which in a way is good because they didn't over power the meat, but on the other hand, it was very hard to taste any flavor of the guacamole, cheese, sauce, and the bacon was small portion too. But overall still a solid burger! The boring burger is delicious, I had a bite. The peanut butter and jam burger was not our favorite. I know people like that combo, but it's just too overpowering. We didn't like that one. The fries are yummy! The flavor spice of Cajun and sour cream we loved!! The fry sauce is awesome. Highly recommend the fries! The barrel soda is amazing! You know you have a problem when every single burger sounds good. The combos of burgers and toppings are UNREAL. Since when have you had apples or raspberry pepper jelly on your burger? Or peanut butter? Or cream cheese? I'm not usually a waffle fries fan but these were cooked to perfection and the flavored salts were such a fun addition to regular fries. Not the best environment to have a burger (kinda tucked away in the back of Heber Hatchets). Although the place is decorated nicely. There was only one server when we went, which was a bit inconvenient. As for the burgers and fries: not many choices and they aren't very flexible with modifying the choices. The burgers are pretty oily and don't have any "wow factor". The patties are on the thinner, crispier side. The flavored fries are just covered in artificial flavoring powders unfortunately. If you aren't looking for a particularly special burger, then you might like this place. read more

We love this place!! We have done both takeout and dine-in and have had great experiences at both. It's in the back of Heber Hatchets so it can be noisy in there but I feel like it adds to the ambiance and makes it a more fun and lively experience. We've tried the Dan Kelly, Stoneman, Poncho and Lefty, Old World, and Grumpy Claire. I can honestly say I've loved all of them!! My all-time favorite is the Stoneman. Can't beat the guac and sauce. The Old World is a good, classic burger (you have to like mustard for this one). The Dan Kelly and Grumpy Claire are soo good if you're feeling something a little more unique. The sweet and savory blend perfectly! I recently tried the Poncho and Lefty and loved the flavors! The Fritos in it were yummy and the perfect compliment. We did takeout and we had to wait a bit for our order so they gave us a free brownie for waiting which was so nice too!! Talk about exceptional service. We didn't mind the wait at all but if you don't want to wait 15-20 mins on a weekend, I'd suggest calling in your order (for takeout). You can also dine-in but they don't have a ton of seating so just be aware of that before going. Anyways, we're big fans! Unique burgers that are worth being brave to try. Ever had a PBJ burger? Well you should. They also have weekly specials that pop up and add a little spice to the already short, but phenomenal menu. You can have your burger with a side of waffle fries and different seasoning salts in the table (Cajun and sour cream and onion were a few favorites). It's inside the Heber Valley Hatchets axe throwing spot and is decorated like the Wild West. This was my first time at Backdoor and it was just okay. The service was super good! The waiter and hostess were kind and friendly and walked us through the menu. The ambiance was also super fun! The music and environment was fun, this would be fun for families and kids after hatchet throwing! I felt that the burger seasonings were inconsistent, some were too seasoned and some weren't at all. The flavor pairings were interesting and fun but it wasn't anything to come back for. The fry sauce was the best part of the whole thing. The fries and drinks were great. Their Stoneman burger was DELICIOUS. This place is definitely a hidden gem. When first entering the parking lot, I thought this place seemed a little sketch. Once walking in, I realised that this restaurant was located in the back section of heber hatchets (axe throwing place). As it seemed kind of odd, I didn't have high expectations for Backdoor BRGR. I decided to order the stone man burger (best selling burger - according to the waiter) and absolutely loved it. Everything tasted so fresh and was cooked to perfection. The caramelised onion, guacamole, crispy bacon, mushrooms and patty were everything. I also loved the Cajun fries I ordered as it was super crispy and fresh out of the fryer. Only reason this place isn't 5 stars is because the service is a little slow, but not enough to deter me from coming back. The food is 5 stars, and its not easy for me to give 5 stars to a place that only sells burgers. Their burgers are not the average thing you'll see at a Hire's or Red Robin, they have unique toppings, and they are very, very good. The meat is juicy with a crisp exterior, and the buns are a soft roll with a somewhat crispy crust. The fries are OK, they weren't crisp, but I still liked them, but the burgers are where its at. I had the Dan Kelly, my wife had the Grumpy Claire. The Dan Kelly has a sweet, savory and spicy thing going on, and it was amazing. All of the burgers looked really good, and we're definitely coming back to try the rest. The drinks are big, and the soda fountain is out in the open, and they don't seem to mind you getting up to get your own refill. Like I mentioned, the service was a little slow, which to be fair to them, they let us know up front. Don't expect to get in and out of here in a jiffy. You can enter through the back of the hatchet place, and probably a good idea, as parking out front is sparse. There are a lot of good burger places in UT County, but this place is in my top 3. Ever seen a manager come out to tell someone that cheese magically disappeared from a burger? I have. Sat down with a few other people on a Friday afternoon while in town for a festival. The food is tasty, with creative burger recipes and really good (non-alcoholic) drink options, but it's pretty pricey. A bit larger and better than average smash burger, waffle fries, a float, plus a tip ended up being $30. I've had a lot better burger meals for that price. The two servers were very friendly, but the food comes out very slowly, and with consistent errors. There were only two other tables being served. The server mixed up the sides on two of our orders, which wasn't the end of the world, but again, it's not like this was a busy time. The biggest offense, and the real reason for this review, were the last two burgers to come out, ordered by two people that arrived a bit into the meal. First, they got delivered someone else's food- literally, burgers meant for another table. Again, one of only three seated parties. When the food finally arrived, one of the burgers was missing the cheese on it. The servers took a long time to come and check on us, and when they heard about the error, they apparently took the complaint back to the manager. Who proceeded to come out and explain that she personally made the burger, and that there was in fact cheese on it. Even when the burger was opened up, she tried halfheartedly to point at something she said was cheese, and then claimed she didn't know what might have happened to it after it came out. It felt an awful lot like she was accusing us of removing it for... reasons? Needless to say, I will not be returning next time I'm in town, and I'd suggest thinking twice before going. read more

Food was decent for me, my husband loved it. Service was not, our server checked on us once. We had to keep asking the guy who was cleaning the table next to us for updates on our food which took a while. The table that had double the amount of people and ordered after us got their food first. The place is pretty cool, love the ambiance. overall don't know if I would come back. This is a very fun little burger joint. I love the aesthetic of the place, although one minor complaint is that the rounded ends of some of the tables (like the one I was sitting at) are a little uncomfortable to eat at when you're having to perch on the edge of a bench. I got the Stoneman burger and sweet potato fries which were both DELICIOUS. My bro-in-law and I asked for fry sauce and I was disappointed they don't have that. The old world sauce is good, don't get me wrong, but I'm an Utah boy and want fry sauce. The server was nice. Absolutely love this place. I honestly wasn't expecting much as I walked through an axe throwing place and upstairs. Once upstairs I was loving the ambiance and decor. The service was exceptional and the waitress was very attentive and friendly, but not overbearing. I asked for recommendations and was pleased with the suggestions. I ordered one of the burgers on special and was very pleased with it. Flavors were great and the portion was generous. I was quite full afterwards. My wife got a more standard burger and was also happy with it. We got a large fry to share and it was more than enough for us both and I loved all the seasoning options on the table. The only downside was that the food was pretty slow to come out, but it wasn't bad enough to dock a star or deter me from coming back. I am a fan of gourmet burgers. I have a favorite place to go for them in American Fork. So while I was happy to try these I wasn't expecting the best. But I got it. Easily as good as my favorite place and totally different burgers. Which is kind of crazy to be able to get that kind of verity. I got mine to go so I can't speak on the dine in experience but it seemed nice while I waited. Wait staff was friendly and attentive even when it got really busy. Very good burgers! I am a huge peanut butter and burger fan since I had it at Lucky 13 and this burger was almost as good. I honestly would prefer it with out the Jalapeño raspberry jam. Or maybe a little less if it. Yet the meat quality was good! The drinks were really delicious in a giant cup! The prices were also good for what you get. The three of us left happy and full! This is my favorite burger joint in all of Provo. The place is kinda hard to find, but once you do, it's like finding buried treasure. Their burgers are all very special and fun. POSITIVES: how can I put into words the experience that I had at Backdoor BRGR?... I've got it! "Unparalleled!". I went in thinking I would play it safe with the Boring Uncle Bryce. But I put my big boy pants on, and ventured to try the daring Dan Kelly... And who woulda thought... Peanut butter and jelly on a burger, with some jalapeño flavor in the mix... It really works. It doesn't just work, it was fantastic, delicious, unique, and unforgettable. All of the flavors were delicately balanced. The cajun crisscut/waffle fries were perfectly fried and crispy. I was a bit skeptical of the fry sauce, which looked more yellowy than I would've imagined. But it, too, exceeded my expectations - it was almost like a mix of honey mustard and fry sauce? Or close to Chick Fil A sauce? Idk but it was superb. The restaurant itself sits on top of of the kitchen, and in the back of a Hatchet Throwing business in the same building. The ambiance is charming, decked out with barrels and nice wooden booths, which gives it an old saloon feel. The staff are wonderful, welcoming, and friendly. They go out of their way to make your visit worth it. You can definitely tell that their top priority is the satisfaction of the customer. NEGATIVES: the only thing I recall was the price being pretty high. For a burger and fry meal you're looking at upwards of $15. But let's be honest, this ain't no In N Out basic burger. There's nothing ordinary about it. The patty itself has great flavor. The quality of the ingredients will not disappoint. PRICE: $12-18 per person. VERDICT: superb. Worth every penny and calorie. I went with some family to get this place to go. The lady was so nice and let us know it would be 40 min. We still ordered and it was worth the wait! The sour cream and onion fries were great, but I also tried the Cajun fries and I would say they are better. I just wish they gave two fry sauces. The burger was totally delicious and flavorful! The bun was excellent and didn't get soggy or end up being more eaten on one side more than the other. It stayed in place and was well balanced with all the stuff in-between. They are currently remodeling at the time I went so the inside seating is kinda oddly placed but it's really cute and kinda an old style feel. I would totally come back here but might stick with to go orders until they are done remodeling. Burgers - 4 Stars Fries - 1.5 star Backdoor BRGR is the upstairs restaurant behind an Axe-throwing hall. So you might do a double take when you enter those doors. Lots of axe throwers on their dates or team-building event. We tried 2 of their best sellers and 1 special - Dan Kelly, Grump Claire, and the Beast / Monster (I forget what it was called but it was a big one). We also got 2 sides of fries - Cajun and BBQ. The Dan Kelly is their bread and (peanut) butter. Raspberry, peanut butter, jalapenos made it a pretty flavorful & zesty burger, complemented by the distinct peanut butter flavor that softens the spices a bit. It was a good burger. The Monster / Beast was a big burger with an egg and bacon on it. It sounded very good on the phone and looked very appetizing / filling. Once you trim the fat, it's a giant egg burger and the flavors are what you'd expect, nothing too crazy besides the quantity. Grumpy Claire - This stole the show for me. Sauteed apples and onions provided a sweet flavor that's not overwhelming but worked well with the beef patty. Each bite was hearty and had a great balance of salt and sweet, leaving you wanting more. This should be the headliner. Fries - Waffle fries tossed in dry seasonings. But the fries are quite basic and bland (no flavor without the seasoning, not even salty), and the seasonings are low in flavor and quantity so it didn't make much impact. We could barely taste the cajun unfortunately, and they made a mistake on the order and gave us 2 Cajuns instead of 1 Cajun & 1 BBQ Would recommend going to try the various Burgers, skip the fries. read more

It's really the tale of two factors with this spot. Never before have food and ambiance/experience been in such contrast before, at least in my experience. Let's start with the excellent. I love a good burger, and in my world, that starts with good meat and it means lots of over-the-top toppings (or bottomings, I don't discriminate). That's exactly what you'll find here. It's a pretty simple menu with some burgers, fries, and desserts, and when a place does something well, why get too fancy? Make a few burgers, make them well, and throw in a few specials (check the chalkboard) and you've got something simple and good. So, really, we're off to a great start before you every sink your teeth into a burger. The first burger I sunk my teeth into was the Dan Kelly, which is a burger take on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And by that, I mean it has peanut butter and jelly on it. A pretty straightforward peanut butter, and a pepper jelly--but I gotta say the jam was a bit more like raspberry than pepper. Not complaining, it just was sweet, and even with the jalapeños that come stock, it didn't have a discernible kick. I really liked it. And then, then I tasted the Stoneman and was nearly reduced to tears out of order envy. This was a salt bomb of a burger (and I mean that with intense love) and it had just the right mix of grilled onions and cheese and a skiff of guacamole to really lift your lid off. I loved it. We got BBQ fries as well, and these are the waffle fries variety, served with a dusting of BBQ powder. Definitely a nice addition. They say the sour cream & onion are also popular, and I imagine it's the same thing, only with the different dusting. Add a little fry sauce, and you've got something. That's all extremely positive stuff. And then there's the other half of the equation. We arrived at 5:30pm on a Saturday. We're not old people out for a senior dinner, we just hadn't eaten and were getting pretty hungry and the event that had brought us nearby had run its course, so we were ready to eat at that early hour. We guessed that the name was an homage to the entrance off of the back side, and drove around and parked in the rear, accessed from the alley/street behind. It's a divey old building, but I don't mind a good dive. We were seated in a hallway by the soda machine, in a cramped space that was packed in with several other tables. It was early, so we were the only other people there in this section for a while, until eventually a guy was seated a table away. He took a long call with his phone on speaker, so it was an interesting (read: not very interesting) conversation to be a part of as he spoke loudly. Meh, these things happen. The real challenge comes as this shares a space with an axe throwing business, and we could watch the throwing occur (not the actual targets, but the throwers who would just leave our field of vision to throw). With every throw, there's a thud. Throw. Thud. Throw. Thud. The wall kinda shakes a little, and depending on how big of a crowd and how close of a game it is, the attached cheering and jeering. Throw. Thud. Shouting. Throw. Thud. Shouting. This went on, and as the evening got busier and busier, more parties came to throw. And thud. And shout. And thud. And shout. I know this, because we were seated for an hour before our food came out. We checked our watch when we arrived, and even though we were warned it may be a while, because they are 1/2 lb burgers, it was about 30 minutes into our visit that our server came and told us that the kitchen now had our order and would start working on it. Some 30 minutes later, it arrived. For a place that wasn't very busy at the old duffer hour that we arrived, I was just surprised that it would still take a full 60 minutes to get food. Waiting an hour is okay, I guess, when the food is very good. Which it was. But the other downside to being there at 6:30pm is that it did indeed (thud, throw, shout) continue to get busier and busier. Soon they had filled all of the tables around us, and it was packed tight. Most of the staff was done wearing masks, patrons weren't wearing masks, and you had a whole room of people shouting and throwing, and you're touching chairs with the party behind you. If you're concerned about COVID, in the slightest, this restaurant is simply not an option. So, there you have the tale of two experiences. Really fun menu, simple, well-executed. Others have also noted the atmosphere is a downside. I've spent plenty of time in rowdy restaurants, and though I'm not a college kid, I don't mind a bumpin' atmosphere. This was more. If you're into a bit of chaos, with a bunch of loud friends who want messy burgers and ax throwing yells, you have found your spot. I believe there's also a direct entrance in back. Food- the burgers were good! For my liking, a little too much bun is drying and hard to chew, but the patties are great. My husband likes this place more than I do- he regularly orders a Stoneman. Service is good, but sometimes sparse is coming around the table. read more

This is the best burger I've ever had. Please don't read this as a hyperbole. I am being very literal. We've been here twice now. The first time we were there the burgers took really long to come out and we were ready to never come again, but as soon as we tried them we knew we had discovered our "most have when in Provo" burger stop. The Poncho burger is by far my favorite. We've had the sour cream and onion fries, but we liked the Cajun much more.
