I was here for business and had an early start so I couldn't wait for the restaraunts locally to open. I came in and was seated immediatley. The server was attentive to my needs, took enough time to have conversation, but also left me to enjoy my meal. Being a restaraunt in a hotel the decor was pretty plain. Open with tables closer together than most would prefer. I really wanted the buffet to get started. Most companies are not as generous as mine giving me a $25 allowance for breakfast, but even at that a $22 buffet does not leave room to leave the server a reasonable tip. They should take this into consideration when pricing. There are many other breakfast buffets that are priced much more favorably and usually have a bigger selection. I opted for the western omlette. It was served with potatos which were fine. The omlette taste fine but was really scrambled eggs with ham and veggies mixed in, cooked, then folded in half and topped with cheese. An omlette with the veggies and cheese stuffed inside a thin egg base is always so much better. Hotel food is usually about convenience, so I got what I expected, decent service, acceptable food and a price point higher than average. read more

The bar is a much better eating experience. Stopped in again tonight, and very impressed with our meals. One bartender was easy to talk to and understand. The other not quite as much. But we enjoyed our meals and drinks. Definitely worth a stop in if you're in the neighborhood. read more

This is the room service menu for the Provo Marriott Hotel and Conference Center so this is only based on that and I didn't have the chance to dine in to check out the service or the restaurant's vibes. That said, the food is a definite plus with the chicken wings so juicy and the portions great. Located inside the Marriott Hotel in Provo, The Slate Restaurant offers a decent selection of appetizers and entrees to suit most people's tastes. It is not an overly large menu. Actually visited here multiple times and tried various items on the menu. The Marriott Burger is a solid choice and both the sweet potato fries as well as the regular fries are good. Good selection of beer and wine. Two choices for dessert. You can have either cheesecake or bread pudding. They are both pretty decent. Portions are good. Prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly and helpful with menu/drink selections. read more

In town on business and needed a drink and dinner, heard food was good here and they have a full bar. Ordered a manhattan, apple pecan bleu cheese salad and chicken Alfredo. All were done well and very tasty. The waiter/bar tender was super nice and friendly and checked on my half Salad request. We were staying across the street at the Hyatt and decided to pop in here for an early breakfast...I really enjoyed my Monte Cristo (Small critique: The jam was way too sweet and not set leaving the consistency to be like baby spit.) there was a buffet set up that everyone seemed to really like with made to order omelets and waffles. Decent food for the location and price. Breakfast is fresh, including the fruit. They even have a honey comb that you scrape off to get honey. It's a nice set up. The staff is friendly, dinnerware and tables are clean. Although, I did see one waitress dust a plate off that was used to hold a customers toast, and reset it to a different seat at the table, did not wipe the table or anything off and sat the next customer down to eat. The food here is good for the price they're asking. I got buffalo shrimp, buffalo wings, chicken quesadilla, the blackened chicken pasta, and the flat iron steak. Very pleased with everything I ordered but most of all I wanna give a big shoutout to Natalee she was amazing. We visited on a very slow weeknight, in that quiet time between Christmas and NYE. Because it was such a quiet time, our server -Mason- was pretty much running the entire front room by himself. But that didn't slow him down, he was incredibly friendly and thorough. The high-ceilinged room was so empty that true ambiance was missing, but I can tell it normally would be a great spot for a small gathering or even a date. I had the salmon, which was acceptable, but what really stood out was the wild mushroom risotto that accompanied it. So, so good! I would return and have a giant bowl of just that!! Because this is Utah, wine is served in laughably small 3 oz or 5 oz pours, but at least alcohol is available. :) My only regret is I forgot to check-in on Yelp for a discount, so don't forget that step! read more

First, we got the Triple Berry Lemonade It was so refreshing! We started with the Crispy Buffalo Shrimp and the Smoked Bacon Cheddar Dip. Both very tasty! The shrimp made us decide that we want any crispy shrimp we eat from now on to have Buffalo sauce on it! The smoked bacon cheddar dip was creamy and went great with the house made chips. Our entrees were the Bison Burger and Cedar Plank Trout. Neither of us had eaten bison since high school and this burger made it worth the wait! Not gamey at all and so flavorful. As far as the trout goes, I am admittedly not a big fan of that kind of fish but it was the freshest tasting trout you can find. We enjoyed it the most in a bite together with the accompaniments to the dish. Overall, we were happy with our meal and would recommend stopping in if you are in the area! read more

Yes, it was clean, and upscale, and yet it's still a restaurant that's in a hotel! So, here's what I have to say. If you're in Provo and you want a quick, but nice, sit down meal. Try this place. We had no wait at all and the food was definitely fancier than a lot of places we typically go! But, just remember that you're still in a hotel so it doesn't feel as intimate as similarly priced places. Overall, we liked it, but I don't know if we'd put it at the top of our list to come back to. read more

Service hOurs for breakfast are 6:30 am to 11 am (GREAT!). They have a menu and also a buffet. I noticed they had an omelette bar so I didn't even think twice to look at the menu. I ordered my egg white omelette with the toppings I wanted. It was fast and all ingredients fresh. I also ordered black coffee and it was a nice surprise to see the waitress brining a whole pot of coffee for me to enjoy! I am picky with my coffee, and this one was in my opinion a little over roasted. So I ordered some cream to pair it with, it got a little better. The total was 20 bucks, I guess it's ok for the service and location. I saw the other tables food and the food looked great. I wish I was going to stay longer to enjoy lunch and dinner. read more

Stayed at the Marriott so we went to Slate for convenience. Honestly, the food was bland and something I could have made at home (and I'm not a cook). It was also super expensive. The other 5 entrees (pasta, flatbread, and burgers) we ordered were just -meh, not terrible but not great, especially for what we paid. I expected more from a Marriott property. It's in a hotel so what can you expect? Prices are far and food quality is good, but not great. They changed their menu and dishes a little since the last time we've been there or maybe it has always been the same and we haven't notice. Anyways, their buffalo wings are average, while their ribeye that's $27 is full of fat and tasted like grease. (I wouldn't recommend getting their steak unless this description sounds good to you. I would suggest get their wings if you just want a snack, but I heard their hamburgers were better so try that.) If your looking for a good ribeye California Pizza Kitchen has a better tasteful one that's in Orem. The service was nice and weren't pushy and overall a good experience. I would recommend coming to this place for fun or for something for special occasions because it's kind of fancy, but not too fancy if that makesh sense. 3 stars read more

When we arrived it took a good 15 minutes to be greeted by then we just ordered our food with our drinks. After 30 minutes of waiting we asked and we're told "it will be few minutes." We waited another 30 minutes until we actually got our food. By then we asked to get our food To Go because we had already been there for over an hour. We also didn't get refills on our drinks until after 45 minutes and the only reason we did is because the staff could tell were were frustrated. And the food was not worth it. The salad was so small and the 7 dollar added chicken was extremely small for what I paid for. The quesadilla tasted like something I would make in the microwave in college. I don't appreciate excuses and false promises for the late food. Overall it was a disappointing night. read more

When our Thanksgiving plans fell through at the last moment, my husband and brother-in-law were scrambling to find a place open, and this was recommended to me by about three people. I'm so glad we went!! Every single thing was great - no complaints. Between the three of us, we had the cedar plank trout, mushroom risotto, Marriott burger, bison burger, scones, and ginger peach cobbler. The appetizer was a pretty awesome charcuterie board involving pepper jack and apricot wensleydale cheese, olives, bread, and meats. Needless to say, we were stuffed at the end. Everything is fresh and homemade, down to the jam for the scones. The menu was big enough to have options and too big for those of us who wanted to try everything. It is on the expensive side ($10-16 a person with sides a la carte), but it was worth it for a holiday. I'd come back anytime for the scones by themselves, which are about $4 for a plate of 4. It's located in the lobby of the Provo Marriott hotel and it was a quiet and attractive place to have a meal. Service was very good. read more

It's a small and simple hotel restaurant. The buffet is standard fare (waffles, french toast, bacon, oatmeal, milk) plus an omelet/egg chef. The chef is nice in theory, but I never find omelets to be worth the wait. Anyway, the food was fine. The scrambled eggs had that out-too-long congealed look and the waffles were turning stale, but the fantastic french toast, bacon, and hot syrup made up for it. At $11 something for the buffet, I made sure I wouldn't need lunch. Snake-mode: ENGAGE But I really appreciated the service. It was amateurish in a thuroughly well-meaning way. For example, when I was leaving the maître d' noticed that I was still carrying a small cup of coffee from the lobby and asked if I would prefer one of their larger ones. This set off a cascade of activity as the staff hurried about trying to find cups and hot coffee. Then, standing awkwardly outside the kitchen as she filled my cup, another two staff asked me if I needed anything. Friendliness and goodwill in the extreme. read more

We really wanted to like this restaurant. The servers were really nice, but the experience wasn't great. None of the service staff were wine drinkers, but they gave us a good recommendation, so good there. But the food didn't cut it. My son's burger and my trout were delivered about 10 minutes before everyone else's food. His burger looked awesome and my fish was ok, but overcooked. My daughter's chicken strips, when they finally came, were more breading than chicken and my husband's food was mostly cold. The servers wanted us to be happy and did comp our dessert, which was good, but the whole thing was a let down. My advice for anyone visiting would be to go for a walk up the street...lot's of options. Advice for the hotel, invest in your restaurant. My steak salad was absolutely delicious! Thick slices of, cooked just to my taste, was placed on top of a thick slice of iceberg lettuce. Blue cheese dressing, crisp bacon and cheese blends topped it off. I had them hold the croutons which thru did for me. The Slate restaurant is my go-to on what would typically be a busy evening to eat out. Located in the Marriot Hotel in downtown Provo, it is easily accessible and off of the beaten path. I have now eaten here 3 times, and have finally decided to write a review about it. The service takes a little longer than usual, which is fine. But being I am usually the only person in there, I would expect the food to taste a little more fresh than it did. It always comes out tasting a little too lukewarm, and somewhat soggy for some reason. The prices are also just a tad bit high for the quality of food that you are getting. However, the scones are incredible. They are listed as a local favorite on the menu, and for good reason. They are delicious. Although you have to pay $4 for four of them, the honey butter and home made jam that accompanies them is delicious. In fact, next time I go I will probably just order three plates of those and have that be my entire meal. There is one plate that I do enjoy there - the BBQ chicken flatbread. Lots of flavor, good portion size, and pretty reasonably priced. I have tried nearly everything on the menu, and it is all a solid 3/5. Not terrible, but not incredible. Bottom line - if you want a very low key quiet spot to eat on a busy friday or saturday evening, come here and grab some scones and a few small plates. read more

Opted for the Marriott hotel lobby restaurant instead of getting out in the snow for dinner tonight. They have a full service dining room, but I chose to sit in the bar area, which is located just outside the restaurant. Their wine selection is well over priced in my opinion- about $9 for 3 oz and $15 for 5 oz. I wanted to try several of their plates and landed on the hummus with veggies and flatbread ($7), calamari ($9) and the Colby Caesar Salad ($16). The hummus was my least favorite- tasted like they poured it from a premade manufactured hummus. My favorite dish was the calamari- the dipping sauce was delicious, and the calamari was perfectly fried with a light batter. My only complaint is that there wasn't enough. The plate looked bare. The Colby Caesar was your traditional Caesar but served with 5 oversized spicy (and I mean very spicy) buffalo shrimp on top. My advice to the cook would be to cut the tails off the shrimp prior to serving the salad. Perhaps even go ahead and slice the shrimp and disperse throughout. I enjoyed it, but I like spicy food- steer clear if you're not a fan. Wish I had an appetite for the bread pudding- sounded really good. read more

The wait staff here was amazing, quick, and checked in just enough without coming off as overbearing. Their menu didn't have a huge offering, but a pretty good selection. I only opted for the sweet potato fries, which was devoured before I remembered to snap a photo. The Sriracha aioli served with the fries was delicious! Found this hidden gem when a girlfriend and I googled "best brunch in town" after a Sunday yoga session in Provo. The mimosas are divine and the varied menu selections never disappoint. This is our second trip back and definitely are giving this review 5+ stars! Today we shared the cheese board, buttermilk fried chicken, and Marriott Burger. Make sure to order an extra side of the mushroom risotto too, you won't regret it. The hospitality offered from server Kelsey was exceptional. We were seated by the fire and enjoyed Slate's inviting and laid back atmosphere. The chef even paid a visit at the end of the meal to ensure all items were prepared to our liking. I ate there this past November with a couple of colleagues and I must say that this place was exceptional! I was lucky enough to indulge in a good portion of the menu, starting with the Crispy Buffalo Shrimp, the Smoked Bacon Cheddar dip, and the deliciously soft Mountain Scones. All completely delicious and shareable, especially the scones. For the main dish I had the Bison Burger which was pretty amazing. I would recommend adding more of the horseradish ranch sauce, I definitely couldn't get enough of it. If your feeling pretty daring you can even add a fried egg to it. By this time I was stuffed but my colleague had a great looking Ginger Peach Cobbler which he completely polished off. The prices didn't break the bank and the service was exceptional. With the new lobby and restaurant renovation, I would say this is the best place to eat in town! read more

The Slate is a pretty classy restaurant. With the Marriott's recently renovated lobby, the restaurant resembles a, albeit small, 5 star restaurant. Their chef has been working at the restaurant for the past 12 years, and has developed a unique menu with a variety of good dishes. I ordered the free range bison burger, and got it "messy" style with a fried egg on top. Bison burgers are always good, and the Slate did a good job with it. The sweet potato fries are their landmark side. We enjoyed a buffalo shrimp appetizer (shrimp in buffalo sauce), along with the cheese chip dip, which were both very good. Prices are a bit higher (16 bucks for the burger alone) but you get what you pay fore here. Those looking for quality and quantity, and are willing to pay for it, will find a good experience at the Slate. I was most impressed by the service in the restaurant. The waiters were very helpful and friendly, and went out of their way to help us. Few restaurants can compare with the quality of servers that we had that night. read more
