Good service and on the night we were there we ended up getting bonus comedians because several were in town for Mothers Day. I spent the weekend in Dallas with my sister and son, who we were dropping off at college. My son loves comedy so we came here hoping to see a good comedian or two but set our expectations low. To our pleasant surprise we saw about 10 comedians over the course of two hours and at least seven of the comedians were funny, and three of those were downright hilarious! The next time my family and I come here from Detroit to visit my son we'll definitely be back. I'd recommend this comedy club to all adults with a good sense of humor. read more

After seeing that D Magazine had rated Backdoor as the best comedy club in Dallas, my wife and I decided to take a couple of our friends there after dinner last night. That was a mistake. Someone at the club must be best buds with someone at the magazine to have gotten that rating because this place was pretty lame for the most part. First off, this is not a club in any sense of the word. It is a tiny conference room in which they pack as many people as possible. They seat you in the smallest, most uncomfortable chairs at the smallest table possible. Luckily, my wife and I weren't alone or we would've been sharing a table, shoulder to shoulder, with total strangers like many others were. You also better get your drinks before the show starts because you won't be served during the show. Not once did I see a server at any table after the show started. If you want a drink during the show, you'll be leaving the room to go to the bar yourself. I was too stubborn to do that, so I started to sober up halfway through the show. This also turned out to be a mistake because then you realize how lame the comics are at this joint. Now, I won't say they were all bad because there were a few that made me laugh(mainly the final comedian, Chris Brown). He is the only guy that got real laughter, not courtesy chuckles. To tell you how bad it was, half the room had left about 45 mins into the show, and I swear a couple of the comics were tripping on acid. Several other folks, including myself, had their heads on their hand just politely waiting for the torture to end. I was literally relieved when the show was finally over. Needless to say, I'll never be back to Backdoor. But depending on your standards, maybe you'll have a good time. You just better be in a drunken stooper before the show starts. That must be how there are so many good reviews for this place because it is terrible. read more

Attended the Stand Up for Houston benefit with my wife on Saturday! It was a great show with more than a dozen, hilarious comedians. Seeing the talent that came together was awesome! I learned about Backdoor Comedy after making a jump to an open mic night in June 2017. A co-worker joined a week later and we've done this several times. Funny comics, didn't break the bank, and a good time. They recently moved into the DoubleTree hotel off 75. It's a smaller stage, with seating around 40 max or so. They had comics from all over, including some that were on last comic standing and some other reality comedy TV shows. Had some good laughs, and some good drinks. Fun for a night out but not exactly a "wow experience". Like all have said, it's located inside the hotel lobby in a small side room. Don't sit in the front if you don't want to be a punchline! Drinks and food very reasonable, just not a large selection. Eat before you come, then enjoy two pearberry cocktails! I'm sorry, I rarely leave bad reviews but this was by far the worst comedy club I've ever been to in my life. I went on a Saturday night where it was advertised as "the best of comedy show," so I figured they weeded out all the bad comics. Well long story short, out of 10 comics, only one was decent, and he was the last comic. Some were forgetting jokes and most of the crowd were giving charity laughs. I'm new to Dallas from New York so I haven't been but to one other comedy club called, Improv, which is in Addison. I highly recommend going there instead and don't even waste your time coming here. You won't laugh. I actually felt bad for them. Some of the crowd was so uninterested that they were talking while the comic was attempting to make a joke, and the whole room could hear them because the room is so small. Just AVOID!!! read more

Went here to celebrate for my buddy's bachelor party. From the outset I was impressed by the experience. The phone call to set everything up was quick, professional and informative. We knew exactly what to expect before we drove all the way there. Obviously, your experience may differ from ours. Comedy at this level is hit or miss, but luckily we had a massive hit on our hands this evening. Every single comedian was at least marginally entertaining - no duds to be found. There were two stand outs to me in particular, though: Linda and Ryan. They could legitimately make it big if they kept at it. Super impressed. The food was exactly what I expected. Bar food with a standard level of execution and taste. Nothing special but certainly great considering the prices ($10 for 10 wings? Count me in every time). If you're looking for a fun activity to do with a group, give this place a try. Me and the gentlemen in the group all sincerely enjoyed the hell out of it. Well done, Backdoor Comedy! I had a good time at their New Year's Eve show (Dec 2007). The comics were funny, some had been on Last Comic Standing, a show that I love to watch. One of the guys actually used some of the same material from the show which was sad, but didn't ruin my experience. Paul Varghese performed this night, his material is definitely on another level from the other guys (which is probably why he was closed the show). His material is a lot more educated and not the regular car troubles/family troubles. read more

I'm not sure about the location now, but when I went it was a great hole-in-the-wall find for a friend and I. We went just looking for a night off of campus while in college and had a blast. It wasn't terribly expensive and the comics were great; I think there were about seven or eight. I don't watch a lot of TV but the people around us told us that a large number of the performers that night were from various TV shows with a big draw from Last Comic Standing people. read more

I'm glad I had just recently gone to the Addison Improv before this place so I could make a fair assessment. It's $12 cash or $14 with a card to get in. Make reservations if you have more than 2 people so you all get to sit together. For the price I think it's a great deal. It says there's a two item minimum but I don't think they really enforce it. I had two beers for $10. Not too shabby. You're basically in a small conference room, call it cozy if it sounds better. But instead of a powerpoint presentation there are real live comics! We saw about 10 or so, and since I'd just recently gone to the Improv I recognized one! He was hilarious the first time I saw him and still pretty funny the 2nd time around. I liked how he mixed up his jokes. They were the same jokes but he got around to them in a different way. They have stayed the same though, their comedians are all hilarious - and i really like how they have around 8 different comedians per show, giving variety, different styles and a break if you don't especially like a comics style. The entrance is to the right of the Doubletree bar inside the lobby area. It was $12 cash ($14 card) to enter and it was about 2 hours long. The room was pretty small and my girlfriend and I were seated with a table between the two of us which was a bit different. Probably had about 10-14 different comedians, of which maybe more than half were really good. It seemed as if most the comedians weren't too happy with the crowd throughout the night. I think this had a definite impact on my view of their performances. Drinks weren't too bad ($4.50 for beer, $9 for wine). I would come back but next time bring a few other friends to help liven up the atmosphere a bit. read more

The BEST comedy club in the DFW area. The venue is cozy and it's located in the plush Double Tree Hotel. It's perfect for a date night or just going out for a fun night with friends. The comedians are very funny without being rude, gross or swearing and the price for a ticket is half of what you'll pay at other comedy clubs. I hate to leave a negative review of any place, but I feel obligated to after last night (which was a Saturday night). We thought it would be fun to take some friends visiting from out of town here. We called and it was recommended we leave our credit card info for reservations since they couldn't guarantee there would be seating available. Then when we arrived we realized that it's in a small conference room at the hotel, and a few of the pictures we saw on this page & the google page were not actually real, so that's a little misleading to say the least. We were a group of 4 and there were about 15 other people (so about 30 empty seats). 2 drink minimum per person, and unfortunately they weren't that good at all. Then the comedy started, and unfortunately it just wasn't funny at all. The comedians seemed to have a good attitude about it even though the room was pretty silent. Well, all of the comedians except the guy who told that crowd that we were all too uptight when I don't think he got a single laugh during his set (sorry but no you just weren't funny whatsoever). We handled as much as we could. but one of the last comedians was so bad that we just had to leave about 45 minutes into the show. The lady that took our ticket was sweet and tried to convince us to stay, and while we couldn't get our money back it still just wasn't worth it to spend another hour of our Saturday night there. I highly recommend not using stock photos or other fake photos, as it's misleading and doesn't correctly portray the ambience or atmosphere. I think this is my first negative review ever on Yelp and I'm usually the type to just say nothing at all if it wasn't great, but I felt obligated to leave this one (especially after spending $50 for our group's cover charge and the very misleading photos by the business). read more

This place is so much fun. I reserved a table based on Yelp's recommendation. When we were taken to our seats-they were on the second row-right in front of the stage. The comics were extremely funny and we all really enjoyed the show. We will definitely be back soon! I had called a couple of times prior to the show to ask questions, and my call was promptly returned by Jan. They offer a $2 discount on tickets if you pay in cash. What makes this place better than other comedy clubs is that it is a showcase, so instead of your typical headliner you get about 10 comics. It was cool, cause if you didn't care for a particular comic you had another one coming in a couple of minutes. All in all most of the comics were very talented and hysterical. It was also nice that they all varied in style. My particular favorite was Linda Stogner, who had an unusual and unique sense of humor like nobody I had ever scene. We just got back from the Backdoor Comedy show at the Doubletree hotel in Dallas. Well, I think we saw 9 difference comedians. Of the 9, 4 were good, had everyone laughing most of the time. 3 were so-so, a few laughs but they weren't on very long, maybe 3-5 minutes. Then there was the only woman performer who actually stunk. Not one laugh in the audience. She was TERRIBLE! I felt bad for her. Then the last stand-up guy was hilarious. He was on the longest, like 20 minutes and I can see why he is the closer because he was great. Would I go back? maybe. Not bad for $12. read more

I love a good evening get-away to Backdoor Comedy club. It's one of Dallas' best-kept secrets. Tucked in a corner of the well-appointed and spacious lobby of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, the Backdoor Comedy club continues its long tradition of being one of Dallas' champion venues for up-and-coming comics. Well known performers, such as Paul Varghese, honed their skills on Backdoor's stages, over the years, as the club evolved from being located in various locations around town. The proprietors of the club are professional comics and they have a knack for recognizing talent early in a performer's career. They book a wide variety of performance styles. And the comics who congregate in the bar area before the show have a fraternal air about them -- it's kind of part of the show, for me, to listen to them banter about their sets around town. I really like it that all of the seats in the performance room are close to the stage -- the room is small. I like that better than a noisy, big room, where you can't read the expressions on the performers' faces. The DoubleTree venue is a nice fit for Backdoor. Perhaps my favorite part is the easy and plentiful parking at this posh North Dallas landmark, Campbell Center, which may be familiar so some from the opening credits of the original "Dallas" TV show -- the twin gold buildings on Central Expressway at Caruth Haven. Another attractive aspect for me is the great bar menu, and well-stocked wine and drink selection at the bar and lounge, which is located right beside the entrance to the theater room, in which the comics perform. I don't have deep pockets, and I can always find something affordable, satisfying and tasty on the menu (salads, burgers, and appetizers). read more

This past weekend we had a 20 seat reservation for a birthday party and let me tell you, it was a GOOD time. Absolutely hilarious comedians! I honestly didn't expect much from a small comedy club at the Double Tree hotel with a "no obscene jokes" rule and for only $12! I cried and laughed until my belly hurt and my cheeks were sore from smiling so big by the end of the night. The room was small but I liked the intimate atmosphere and the interraction that the comedians were able to have with us. We ended up asking one of the comedians before the show to do a roast on the birthday girl and it was awesome. He did a really great job on poking fun at her but not offending her at the same time! She laughed and played along and was a really great sport about it! At the end of the show, some of the comedians sang happy birthday with us around the cake and took pictures with the birthday girl. All in all, a huge success! The birthday girl was beyond happy and I couldn't have asked for a better night. read more

This is a must do in Dallas!!! This is a REALLY small venue! REALLY REALLY small! Like, living room small. But don't worry - this makes it perfect for comedy, because it's so intimate. It's a really great thing. There were about 11 (yeah! eleven) comedians who had short bits, and it was the longest show I've ever been to - about 2 1/2 hours! Some were amazing, some so-so. If I lived in Dallas, this would be my regular spot! I loved how many comedians there were, so all tastes were catered to. I really can't recommend this place enough. I kind of wish it wasn't SO small, but not really, because the intimacy if being so close to the comedian is something you don't find anywhere else. The food + bar is by Doubletree. A full bar is served during the show. Unfortunately, they ran out of limes, so I didn't get a mojito, and after trying about three pints of their ice cream, I found it all had been heat shocked (those ice crystals that form when you refreeze ice cream {because your freezer fails}). But all of that is Doubletree - not Backdoor. I saw some of the best comedy I've ever seen here, and I really am still laughing about some it. My friends took to me here for my birthday and it was so much fun! It is this intimate, little comedy club, and that night, they had about eight comedians that performed, there were many different types of comics, and they were all funny. Three of them were really hilarious, but everybody made me laugh. And one of the comedians wished me "Happy Birthday" from the stage and got everybody in the room to join in! It was so fun, and the comic was super funny and really nice. The food was good, I liked the quesadillas a lot. They had a full bar, and my friend was so happy to get her favorite martini. I would definitely recommend this place especially for the comedy and if you are celebrating your birthday! read more

Tucked away behind Doubletree Hotel. A fun evening. Reasonable priced- discounted entrance if you pay cash. You are required to order 2 items per person which is typical for comedy clubs, drinks are all a little sweet and fruity but they have a full bar and I highly recommend that option. Their food menu was also typical comedy club food. Don't order spinach dip- I never send food back and I sent it back. Salsa was good though. Wings were also tasty. Service was super friendly and accommodating. Absolutely, plan on taking in your grandma's quilt because they keep it as cold as a morgue so the comedians don't die of heat from the stage lights. As for the comedians- all in all a really great show! There were at least 8 or more comedians- it was such a great show I really lost count. I definitely had favorites. If I could choose zero stars I would have done. We went on Saturday 16th October. This club is shocking. We left after 4 of the acts, we just could not bear it anymore. They were simply terrible. They all focused on one-liners and just did not make anyone laugh. For $14 on the door, all three of us were not impressed. I would head up to Improv in Addison or simply go to the bar. So I was wary of going to this place given some of the reviews. I was particularly worried about the size of the room and the seating space (my husband and I aren't exactly small people). Let me just say that yes the room is small, but for the most part the seating is very comfortable. We shared a table with another couple, but they have the seats staggered in such a way that we weren't crowded at all. As for the comics, some were great and some were having an off night. I suppose it is just the luck of the draw on that one. Overall, we laughed A LOT and felt like we certainly got our money's worth. My drink was okay and I followed it with water. Hubby had a soda and dessert which was good. The music playlist before the show started was fantastic and the seats were perfectly comfortable. My only complaint was when the music stopped and they were announcing the host through the speakers. That was incredibly loud. It is way to small of a room for that volume. read more
