Had big wad of family visiting, about 12 of us. We timed our lunch terribly, mid-Spring Break, about 1pm. Surprisingly, lines were not that long, maybe 8-10 deep. But... they didn't actually move. Ordered and paid after 25 minutes. Then waited for my burger and fries and bottled water. And waited. Watching the food get delivered was strange. After 10 minutes, about 75-80 salads came out. Then 40-50 hot dogs. After 20 minutes total, I got my meal. Overall time for fast meal: 55 minutes. Overpriced, of course, but not bad. read more

Cantaloupe and Cucumber salad as well as the Grilled Veggie Sandwich are a nice break from the norm at these typical Disney burger joints. Never been disappointed, but I know lots of others have. Love the condiment bar with unlimited tomato and lettuce! Tip: For a relaxing snack, order a glass of wine or hard cider and a side of fries! Kick back during the non-peak hours of 2:00-4:00 and relax while the crowds bustle outside. It's dead in here when it's not lunch or dinner time. read more

This place was soooo amazing!!! I got the galactic chicken salad and it was incredible! I also got the cherry slushie, BB8 cupcake, and a side of carrots. The line was long when I arrived but within 5 minutes I had my food ordered and not long after that did I get my food. read more

I've been going to the Backlot Express for years and is a must on each trip I make to Disney. I remember coming here as a kid when it was still MGM Studios and I've always gotten a bacon cheeseburger. I think the burgers always taste amazing after a long day of walking arounf the theme park. The service here is very quick, which is a plus at the theme parks. For theme park pricing, this is a good deal. read more

This restaurant, like most of Disney's quick service fares, is standardized. You get a burger or nuggets or some kind of sandwich. Two things make this location fantastic though. 1) the cupcakes are delicious. I don't know where they come from and am sure they're not made on site but yum. 2) the location, right next to the Jedi Training academy which can be quite entertaining to watch if you eat outside. read more

Less than memorable restaurant. Went here for the Darth Vader waffles and chicken. The chicken had no flavor. No one ordered anything different so I'm not sure if anything here is better? We all ordered hot cocoa with our waffles for dinner, they weren't attending their machines as we almost couldn't get two cups filled. read more

Hollywood Studios has always suffered from a lack of good quick service dining, and Backlot Express is no exception. My boyfriend had the 1/3 lb angus bacon cheeseburger and I had the caprese sandwich. I'm not vegetarian, but that sandwich just sounded good that night. I wasn't expecting much so it exceeded my expectations although that's really not saying much. The pesto provided a nice flavor and overall it was a decent sandwich but nothing special. I've been liking Disney fries recently, but if you're looking for a healthier option carrot sticks are available. Unfortunately the best way to describe my boyfriend's burger is just "sad". It looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for awhile and at first we thought all he got was the bun and a patty. We couldn't even see the cheese or bacon. And for some reason the lettuce and tomato were placed underneath (not inside) the bun. He was pretty disappointed, especially for $11.29. The one positive I'd say about Backlot Express is that there's a lot of seating so it shouldn't be hard to find a table. read more

My husband had chicken fingers that he liked them. I had a chicken salad and did not like it. The lettuce tasted bad so all I ate was the chicken off the salad. The kids didn't eat all their food either. The line to get food was short and there was plenty of inside seating so if you are looking for a quick burger or chicken fingers this is the place but I would say no lettuce and also avoid the salads. read more

We are at disney and one of our friends has many dietary needs (allergies). I ordered the cantaloupe cucumber salad and my friend had the southwest chicken salad- both big disappointments! The fruit and veggies in my salad were cut too small in tiny cubes,it had too much dressing and not enough cucumber also some of the lettuce was not so fresh...the chicken in the other salad was sub standard! processed chicken strips really gross. This is a great place to stop and take a break for lunch. It's pretty quiet and a nice place to relax for an hour. It's your typical quick serve Disney park place. The food is pretty good and the cupcakes are to die for. The service could be a little better considering they messed up our order and didn't apologize or much to fix the problem. But overall a great spot if you want a quick and easy lunch. It's a little bit of a hidden gem. It's located next to the Indiana Jones Stunt show and we visited right at prime lunch time and it was almost dead. read more

I stopped in for a quick lunch the other day with friends who had never been to the Disney Hollywood Studios. I normally enjoy my meals here because they have food I can eat and it is normally not that busy... but... today was a bit hectic! I normally eat 'off hours'.... in other words, not during the lunch or dinner rush times but my friends wanted to eat something and it was 12:30 pm! They wanted something healthy and I explained to them that most of the food venues in the park will all have healthy options... salads, carrot sticks instead of french fries... etc. When we got there, it was packed! I almost did not want to go in but since it was lunch time, I knew any place we went would be busy. It was on a Sunday, at lunch time, with a billion Brazilian tour groups, and about 95 degrees outside. We waited about 5 min on line to order our food so that was not the challenge but once we got our food, finding a table was a nightmare. People either find a table first and then 'save' it for their family so they are really taking a table for twice as long as they need it for... and the tour groups were taking up about 50% of the tables but were no longer eating. They were eating in waves and the first group was done eating but would not leave the tables until everybody in their group was done! What a mess... We ended up sharing a table with another family that was nice enough to let us share. I did find the tour groups to be very unfriendly and did not care that there was no place to sit. sigh.... Otherwise, the food it typical for a theme park. My guests (who are from Europe) actually thought it was too much food... which it is...but not for Americans. We all want so much food for our money that we are over fed and that contributes to Americans being the fattest in the world! But I digress... I did end up having the chicken strips with carrots and a beer.... A total of about $14. It was fine and I enjoyed it but like my friends said, it was too much food for me to eat. The Backlot Express is fine for a quick meal but just go during the off hours and avoid the crowds and table hogs! Enjoy! read more

The Unkempt Backlot Overall: 2.25 Stars If you are in need of a quick fix or are waiting for the start of time of a show to get closer, then you can come by the Backlot Express. Don't expect much. It's standard of fast food (burgers, hot dogs, French fries, etc.). Like other every other Disney eatery the fries are excellent. The cleanliness/condition of the place is questionable at best. Disney has proven itself to be one of the cleanest family destinations in the world, but the Backlot Express seemed to have slipped through the cracks. Maybe I was there during a shift change or the eatery was more crowded than normal (wait time for tables were 5-10 minutes to locate an empty one). The tables and floors were covered in foodstuff. Spilled sodas and ice covered some areas on the floor. Maybe it's part of the ambiance? I'm also keeping in mind that this place is gigantic in comparison to the other fast-food places in other Disney parks. The service at the cashiers and the pick-up stations like everywhere else at Disney is quick and efficient. They certainly know what they are doing. If you want a quick fast-food experience you can come here, but I'm certain you can find a better experience somewhere else in the park for a similar price. read more

Favorite place for lunch at the Studios. The quality is more consistent and the menu items are more enjoyable thanat ABC Commissary, the other available indoor quick service option. Plus with its slightly out-of-the-way location (far from the major draws of Toy Story and Tower of Terror), it tends to get less crowded than the competition. Normally I don't review amusement park food but this salad was truly bad. Ordered the salad with grilled chicken: slimy wilted greens, acidic salsa, grainy black beans and what I think was meant to be a tortilla chip that is too stiff for just a tortilla but too flexible for a chip. My husband's burger was disappointing as well, seems like it was sitting out. My friend's caprese sandwich was good, so if you come get that. read more

I have been going to Disney a long time. This place really dropped the ball. I understand when you go to Disney restaurants the food usually looks good but the taste is bland. This place was not only bland but for 60.00 for a family of four for hamburgers at least can the meal be hot? On top of that they have two drink and condiment places, one placed on each sode of the restaurant. The place closes at 8PM and we arrived at 7PM. After waiting in line for food and finding a table we saw we had one of the drink and condiment stations near our table. Walked over to fill up and its closed. It looks open, no signs to say its closed but it was. Off to the other side of restaurant wandering through droves of people only to find that the Coke is out. Stay away from there. Maybe just bring your own food and save your money and your sanity. read more

Good location, not as crazy as other places (I.e. You can actually find a seat!). Right when we walked in, my husband remarked that the place kind of smelled-not sure if it's all the old props/memorabilia or what. This dinning facility is a great stop for a breather between attractions at the park and offers a simple menu of burgers, dogs, and nuggets. The special part about this restaurant is it offers refills during your time at the restaurant. If you're looking for a light snack I suggest the chicken nuggets with fries to split with a friend, and of course getting a soft drink. You can fill it with one thing to drink during your meal and then refill it with something else to take to your next destination. read more

I go to Disney fairly often, and this is pretty standard counter service. I have had better, but also far worse over at Epcot. Prices are twice what you would pay for fast food, but it is what it is. Decent burgers plus they have gluten free buns. This quick stop eatery offers much of the usual American fare but the staff was great, and the place was very clean. I had the burger, and while it won't hold its own against In N Out or 5 Guys it was good for Disney standards. Ate at the Backlot Express on Monday of this week, it was fast, easy access in and out, and altrhough there were not any tables inside(air conditioned) we were able to get an outside patio seat no problem, and right at the time for JEDI Training at the Star Tours ...so we got to see a show with Darth Vader, and some Jedi's in training, quite fun..The food was okay, drinks are from the fountain, so we got refills, no problems, I don't think they care if you get refills on your drinks, the choices are relatively fast food, burgers, hot dogs, chx. fingers, fries, and the CUPCAKES, which were delish... Good in a pinch, if you don't have reservations at one of the other places at Disney MGM studios. read more

Although we usually just play our quick service meals by ear, this time we made it a priority to eat here. They have some new Star Wars themed item on the menu. Not sure if they are old favorites renamed or actually new, but we enjoyed them all the same. My son has the Dark Side chicken and waffles; fried chicken pieces and Darth Vader waffles. My daughter and husband had the royal guard , a burger topped with pepper jack cheese and bbq brisket on a dark roll. Fries were hot and nicely salted. Quick service meals also come with dessert so we sampled one of each; Vader chocolate peanut butter cupcake, BB-8 lemon cupcake, Thumper(from Bambi not Star Wars) raspberry cupcake, and a chocolate mousse. Can't really pick a favorite, but the lemon was not my favorite. I like a really lemon flavored lemon cupcake and this was not that. It was also topped with a vanilla buttercream and I would have preferred lemon. I feel like we more than got our money's worth and will add this to the list of go to restaurants. read more
