We are locals. I don't want to leave this review but I am. Female bar tender sucks she's rude not quick with drinks and is always on her phone. We were there today at 845am( after we had coffee cup ) she's already in her phone at the end of the bar. Get a new bartender. One time I was there at night and the long dark hair girl was way better then the day bartender get rid of her. Give someone else the opportunity to make that place a little bit more friendlier I get it it's a dive bar but dive bars are fun and we enjoy going there except when people have shitty attitudes. Bartender Maria on 3/28 was extremely rude when we notified her about a game taking money while not giving credits then admitted one side was taking money and not giving credit, then later while ordering drinks a joke was made about the game she got upset about a political joke she then stole Money from us as she charged us for 3 drinks and gave 2 and didn't return change also told from another customer she took money from them to give herself a bigger tip! hopefully the owner handles this as we are frequent patrons and will let everyone know to stay away from the thieves at backstop! read more

It's a great old school bar, They have karaoke, live music, and even a comedy night. In Boulder city this is the only place that's open late. The beers are good price and so are the mixed drinks. It's an all cash bar and the bartender. Kurt is a nice guy he's quiet until he finally gets to know you, but he doesn't bug you . The locals are great. The only thing that I wish it had was a small bar option of food but he does let you bring in food from the outside. I personally love the place and I'll miss it read more

I am a local and love this place. However, the bartender today should be gone. She was inattentive, rude, and abusive. I have dealt with her before. She talks to her friends, sits on her phone, and ignores customers. When you can finally order she acts like it's an imposition. The bartender was a woman there at 10:00 am on Sunday 11/17. I asked about putting on the Steeler game, and the conversation ended with her telling me to "fuck off" and get out of HER bar. I followed directions and left. Idk why she's such an angry person. Although I don't really consider them dive bars, I just consider them real bars. Yes, it's dark, and you can still smoke in here, and there's a cig dispenser machine. I was warned that the staff wasn't friendly, but everyone that served me was cool each time. There was a tall gentleman one time, and a young lady the other. This spot is a definite dive bar. It's cash only. It's never too too crowded. They have regular drinks specials. There's pool, darts, and Big Buck Hunter. It's just a little sticky and smoky in that classic dive bar way. We came in here to kill time after visiting the Hoover Dam. Why sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic when you sit at a bar instead? $6 pitchers of beer and Big Buck Hunter kept us entertained for quite awhile. read more

I love dive bars and the Backstop didn't disappoint. It's very smoky inside and according to my boyfriend who's lived in Boulder all his life it's smelled that way for over 30 years. It wasn't very busy for a Saturday night but there was a good band cranking out rock and roll and hair band metal from the 70s and 80s. The bartenders were friendly and the drinks weren't overpriced. There are several pool tables and dart boards if that's your thing. Bonus: the ladies' restroom was very clean! read more

My husband and I drive 45 minutes specifically for this bar. The drinks are cheap and made well. The bartenders are all so nice and friendly. The other patrons are respectful and fun to be around. We can play game after game of pool here. The pool tables and cues are well kept and treated respectfully by everyone who uses them. There's chalk for your hands and it's 50 cents per game. We literally post up here ordering drinks and playing pool for hours at a time. On Fridays and Saturdays there's usually a live band. It's so nice to listen to live music and play pool. Never gets too crowded in there, and they have a spot to put your coins down if the table is taken so you can challenge whoever is playing to the next game. Thank you Backstop for being consistently fun, I do not have a single bad memory at this bar! read more

I am a huge fan of dive bars, and the Backstop cerainly doesn't disappoint! We were here on a Tuesday afternoon. There was a decent crowd, considering the time. It's a large space - there is plenty of seating, a small stage for live music and a small dance floor. They have great specials. We shared a pitcher of PBR for only $6. They also have a vintage shuffleboard table, pool tables, darts and a boxing machine. It was a fun afternoon in a chill environment. I am not in BC often, but I'll be sure to stop in for a cold refreshing beer again soon! read more

We use to go to this bar every time we were in Boulder. About 4 times a month. We now walk in and walk out if a certain female bartender is working. I dont know her name but she works Sunday Days. She sits at the end of the bar and plays with her phone constantly. Just a rude, does not give a sh#! person. Her poor customer service ability is very noticeable. We are very easy going, not demanding and good tippers, but not anymore at this bar. The bar owner needs to wake up and realize that he is not the only bar option in town. So let me start by saying I actually liked the bar and the staff under the bar owner which is why I gave it a two star. However the blonde in the tie dye tank top with the knee brace who took my drink and accused me of being in HER BAR for less then 30min because I had a styrofoam cup which they didn't serve but yet I was pouring my drink in to keeping my ice and drink colder longer. I had actually been in the bar for about two hours and working on my fourth or fith drink from that bar. She was unprofessional when she took my drink and if she would have explained the reason why and just poured my drink into a glass all would have been good. I had just payed for the drink a few minutes before she took it and refused to return it or listen to me or anyone else in my party on my behalf. Nice bar bartenders always treat friendly. Drinks are reasonably priced atmosphere is good. They have a pool table, skeet table, video games. Live bands at times you would have to call to find out when? They do need to replace the Dart Board as it is totally trashed and sometimes you need to unplug it to get it to reset so it'll work. That's the only bummer for me because I'm a big dart player. Definitely a good place to bring a large group of friends as there is space to party and the diversity in this bar makes it very interesting which makes it more of a blast to be at. read more

The prior reviews are, for the most part, unfortunate and damaging. The Backstop is a neighborhood tavern, a gathering place. I've been a tavern-goer for almost 60 years (20 in the Backstop), and this tavern is the best. I'm an 1-hour evening patron and the place is always clean, the bartenders polite and they pour a hellofa good drink. The Backstop, Coffee Cup Cafe' and Ace Hardware are the backbone of what's left of Old Town. Sure, there are elements that would like to turn the place into a biker bar, a drug store and Woodstock West; but the tavern has survived. I've NEVER seen a person forced to go into the tavern. Stopped by here one night during a random trip to Boulder City. We walked by and saw the sign but had no idea what it would be like because there are no windows. Upon entering we realized it was a local dive type bar and I immediately worried everyone was going to stop what they were doing, turn around, and look at us like "Who the heck are these people?" but thankfully that was not the case! The bartender was very friendly and our beers where cheap. We played a round of the video hunting game and went on our way.
