The place isn't bad by any means, but I do feel like there are better options in the area. Walk-On's right down the road is one I'd probably choose over it.

I'm getting tired of having my reviews removed. Apparently the owner nor Yelp can tollerate that anyone might possibly have anything negative to say about this establsihement . So FOR THE RECORD, I HAVE ACTUALLY EATEN AT THIS PUB AND GRILL. THIS IS A VALID REVIEW. STOP DELETING IT. Took 10 minutes to get the wait staff to take my beer order. The beer was room temp and stale. After 15 more minutes I was able to order food. The wait for rather long and the food quality was horrid when I got the burger. I've never asked to send a burger back in my life but this one was so badly under cooked I attempted to. I was told that if I wanted my burger properly cooked that next time I should have ordered it well done. Point of fact: The wait staff didn't even bother asking how I wanted the burger cooked. After all that it took forever to pay the bill as the wait staff for the entire meal and more so after I complained were too busy looking at Facebook on their cell phones or talking with other employees and patrons about their days off planning. Finally paid and left feeling worse for the encounter. Perhaps the manager should have spent more time directing his staff and less time hiding in the back of the restaurant and refusing to address my customer concerns over the quality of his product. read more

I decided to partake in this establishment because I've always enjoyed wings personally. When I got there I was promptly seated and waited what seemed like a decade for a server to take my order. After that it was another decade - I ordered the wings and a pint of rolling rock beer (It was their Wednesday special for a decent price of $3.99) . After waiting for what seemed like hours and dealing with snarky servers I finally received my meal. When I took a sip of the rolling rock it was lukewarm and felt off to me from the usual rolling rock beer. When I had the wings they were alright at first - really greasy like something of a prepubescent childs face and soggy like a kids trousers. The wings started tasting of something would get out of a frozen meal combined with that uneasy texture in your mouth that questions if your really eating food. It would have been slightly decent place had it not been for the wait lasting hours and dealing with rude services when inquiring upon my meal. I don't really consider myself coming back with my family to it on our next visit in town. read more

I heard a lot of commotion about this place on the internet so naturally Id rove down there to check it out. I'm not sure sure if I got there at a bad time or what but the service was horrible. I sat down and picked up a menu that was laying there and spent about 15 minutes jumping back and fourth between reading and looking to make some eye contact and get some service. Fianally my time has come. I order burger and fries... pretty basic. After waiting another 20 minutes I have someone come and tell me they are slow in the back today and my fod will be out soon. 10 minutes later I get my burger. My first impression was that it was bring your kid to work day. The cheese was not centered, the lettuce was not centered, the tomato was dangling off the edge, ready to commit burger suicide. I had to "rebuild" the burger in front of me. I will say the fries were good, nice and fresh, salted... Step it up, McDonalds is surpassing you in way, shape, and form. read more

There is a difference between exerting your right to choose not to allow people to exercise their right to defend themselves while patronizing your business and being insulting. Bad judgement on your part does not encourage me to risk your cooking. I guarantee that the people who were in that theater in Aurora or in Luby's in Texas or in any of the other places where guns were not permitted and mass shootings occurred did not die thinking, "At least I'm not a loser and I'm not dieing as a douche-bag....". You have a right to do what you like regarding your business (as long as you are denying service based on people exercising their right to self-defense and not on them being gay or on the basis of race), but by being a rude and insulting douche-bag about it you label yourself a total loser and should not complain if people are offended and chose not to spend their money in your restaurant. If you go out of business, guess what? That's America! read more

As a student at Clemson, I can say that I appreciate the owner's statement on concealed weapons. He's getting a lot of bad reviews on here because of it but personally Backstreets is one of my top choices if I'm looking for somewhere to eat downtown and I will continue to eat here. Backstreets is a BAR where people go to DRINK. There's no need for anyone to have a gun there because regardless of their intentions going in, it's still a bar and they likely would wind up drinking. The owner wasn't bashing concealed weapons holders, he was simply saying that guns are uncalled for at an establishment where the primary audience is college students and a major university (as well as police department) is less than 0.5 mile down the road. I would venture to say that Clemson is a safe community, and there's no reason anyone should feel the need to carry a weapon in the city of Clemson in general, but of course that's personal preference. read more

My niece goes to Clemson and I came down to see her last week. Tried this place as it was near her apartment and had good Yelp reviews. A huge mistake. I walked in and was taken aback at the smell, which was a mix of stale beer, rancid grease and human feces. The table was as sticky as the floor and had a film on it. At that point, I decided to skip the food and just get a beer. Another mistake. Draft was room temperature and had a moldy taste and smell. This place is just gross, I told me niece where I went when she got out of class and she laughed at me for going here. She said everyone knows the place sucks and that they somehow got all their bad Yelp reviews removed because the owner put an anti-gun sign out some time ago. I'm a lifelong New Yorker and don't care for guns, but I also don't care for gross restaurants who deceive potential customers like this. read more

I have been to Backstreets three times now because I keep assuming that the positive reviews are accurate and I love dive bars. Well, my experiences all three times have been consistent: I ordered a burger this round. Well, it was way undercooked so I asked to have it cooked longer. Bad move - the burger came back way overcooked and the bun was crusty as if it had been tossed into a broiler. The lettuce came back wilted as well. My experience with the fries were that they were ok to start but went back with the burger and came back greasy as if they had sat around too long. At least the beer was cold although it was slightly flat. The waitress was a bit on the apathetic side as well. I really wish I could get excited about this place but my experience has not matched up to several others. I think the phrase "your mileage may vary" plays here. read more

Knuckle-draggers in Michigan, California and other states claiming that they got sick in this Pub and saying they'll never go back there again! LOL! They really are as dumb as they sound in the phony reviews! I live in Anderson not to far from Backstreet Pub. I travel through Clemson on a monthly basis and have even thought about stopping in to grab a bite. But considering I am considered a douche bag by this establishment I will not be spending my money here. This business can move up north with all the other libatards. I can't like others say the food is bad or the service but I would think any business would know its patrons. I do know that most South Carolinian's believe in the constitution and our right to bear arms. I also know that this business owner will figure out that we can spend our money some where else. Not being much of a "pub" eatery family, we have never dined here even though it is only a couple miles from home. One of my nephews came to town for a short visit and, having just turned 21, he persuaded us to take him to Backstreets for a celebratory visit. Big mistake! The servers were great, but the food was lackluster to say the least. I could overlook the stale buns, but the soggy, greasy fries were too much. The decor was definitely "frat house" special. I understand we are a college town, but not everyone here actually lives for binge drinking and greasy food. Leave this place to the drunk college kids with low standards. read more

I used to eat here lots. The food was decent a rating from 1-10...I rate it a 5, bc it was convenient, cheap, and it came out somewhat decent time but the food was very greasy. Guess that's what kept it very hot. Bartender's easiest job was to get me beer. I'm not into mixed drinks so I don't know how they tasted. I'd have to admit I got a couple of bad services but the manager gave me 5% off the food for the crappy service. Probably just bad servers at the time. After I saw the sign the other day, I can say I won't be taking my business there for a while. That's just disrespectful to LE and those that carry pistols. read more

Really some of the worst food I have had since returning from Iraq, I didn't know places in the states served camel meat. Greasy, undercooked food served by sweaty fat chicks in grease soaked tee shirts. I think the one that waited on my table wanted to crawl under the table and work for her tip. I can't really fault them for not wanting guns in this dive, thats probably the only thing keeping the staff and owner alive since they like to insult their prospective customers before they even enter this stinky, dirty, sleazy excuse for a pub. I never even made it in the place because of their disgusting "no concealed carry sign." The policy is poor due toi the fact that the only people in there will be the bad guys. It's the criminals that will ignore the sign, so they have made their restaurant a target. I would not feel safe in this place. On top of that, why use all that ugly language on the sign. Families walk by with their kids and they have to see this. Not only is this restaurant a loser, apparently so is the owner. Went there yesterday. Tried to review on my phone but I could only leave a tip. Back today on my laptop. Gotta say their food is decent (we had burgers and they were cooked just right), got a nice bar (tap beer is very cold), everything is clean and the staff is very friendly. The health service's food rating on the store front is an A. I'll have to make a stop back here with my father when he comes to visit. I had a burger today at backstreets, I ordered my burger medium. I got it almost burnt to a crisp. The fries that I had with the burger were decent but almost tasted like they hadn't been cooked all the way. The gentleman who I spoke with about the fries was kinda helpful. Except that the fries that he gave me to replace the cold ones tasted exactly the same as the previous batch. The only part of my meal that was really good was the soda and the ranch dressing. We arrived around 7 and ordered wings, fries and beer are a long day of driving. The wings were soggy and soaked with grease as were the fries. The beer was cold but lacked the proper the proper amount of CO2 and was very flat with no bubbles. The employees were rather rude and actually, we didn't feel safe in there. I got a glass of wine and shared some appetizers with everyone. The service was okay - we were a bigger party though, so that might have accounted for some of the chaos. Quality and flavor wise, it was nothing bad but nothing spectacular. @azfitfoodfun
