I had just come off the trail an hour earlier from backpacking hardcore in the Badlands just down the road. I was in need of protein and people! The bartender was a darling -- professional, pleasant, fun, and thoughtful. She took good care of me, and made sure I was able to get dinner even though it was close to the kitchen's closing time. Badlands Bar has been remodeled and the interior is bright and welcoming in a natural wood finish for very basic, hand built looking furniture. The restaurant bar is quite big and I can imagine it can get quite busy and accommodate a lot of people. It's very, very clean throughout. Forndinner, I had steak tips with fries -- I asked for medium rare and it came medium well. The meat was nothing special but it was definitely lean and and exactly what I was looking for after days of backpacking in the Badlands. The French fries were great, although next time I will try the coleslaw instead. The fat fried homemade bread was not as good as one of the servers said it would be. It's overpriced. The food is ok. The service is meh. What does this place have going for it? It's better than the cafe at Wall Drug. That's the draw. I went with the chicken philly. It's not bad. Kinda tastes like something you can make at home. The fries that come with it, however, are pretty tasty. The rest of the family got personal pizzas. They weren't great. They were ok. I'd say on the level of a DiGiorno. Edible. Serves the purpose. But when the bill comes, it's gonna hurt a little more. I'm not telling you not to go. After all, there isn't a ton of choices in Wall, and it is better than where most people go in Wall Drug. But with any tourist trap, you never feel great afterwards. You've been had. And you know it. Rating this on a curb because there are just not many good options in Wall. We were here two different times during our two day stay. The aesthetic inside is nice-- good decor, lighting, and seating is comfortable. Service was friendly both times we came. Food wasn't spectacular but it was definitely decent and better than anything else we had had in the Black Hills of South Dakota up to that point. First visit we ordered a side salad which was bright, colorful, fresh, and big enough to feed 3 people as an appetizer. Their ranch was good-- this is always important. We ordered a pizza for our main entree. Our usual pepperoni and pineapple on one half and pepperoni and mushroom on the other. Crust was thick and chewy with a good flavor. Cheese was melty and tasty. Just a good, solid pizza. Second visit we ordered the jalapeño poppers to start. Basic but tasty. Also dipped in their yummy ranch. My husband ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger and fries. They use a thick cut bacon that was tasty. A good hearty burger and the french fries were good. I ordered the Steak Tips, as it was highlighted on the menu as a "Favorite," and also recommended by the server. It was okay but, coming from Texas, we're super picky about steak. Ordered the mashed potatoes as a side with the brown gravy and wish I would've gotten it on the side-- it took over. Wall doesn't have a lot of options and I wanted a decent burger. It has 4 stars and I'm hoping for the best. After I got the burger I noticed no lettuce and tomato. Found out you have to ask for it. We stopped in Wall for the night after our trip to Badlands National Park. We got into town around 8pm on a Monday night and picked Badlands for dinner and drinks. I think it used to be called Badlands Saloon and Grille but now I feel like they're rebranding as Badlands Bar (it's a little misleading on yelp). I'll get to the point now and offer some more details below - our experience here was way better than expected for a stop in a small town driven by tourism (read: Wall Drug is mostly a tourist trap). It's clear they put some thought into the new concept - it's got a modern but rustic cabin feel with a repurposed wood and stone interior, exposed filament bulb chandeliers, and a few really nice flatscreen tvs tuned to various sports games. Their beer selection is pretty big - at least 30 different bottled beers behind a well-lit glass door cooler and an additional eight localish craft beers on tap. They even have their own restaurant branded glass pints with a local hotel logo displayed as well (I'm guessing they partner with them to offer discounted drinks for staying at that hotel - great idea). The service was prompt and friendly and the music selection was in the not-gonna-offend-anyone-but -more-interesting-than-Kenny Chesney-or-Miley Cyrus realm, and at a reasonable volume. The food was actually what surprised me the most. The ribeye was out of this world incredible- seasoned perfectly, great marbling, expertly cooked and huge. Anyone that thinks you shouldn't order the expensive ribeye at a non-specialty steakhouse is seriously mistaken in the Great Plains. We're in prime beef country for Christ Sake! I always order the steaks at any restaurant/bar when I'm up here and I have yet to be disappointed. My boyfriend's chicken fried steak was crispy, flavorful, tender and also huge, and the mashed potatoes were honestly kind of weird because they were so creamy but also strangely good. We each had two beers and satisfying, enormous dinners (with plenty leftover) for $60 total. It wasn't super busy and it's the off season so I know that there are issues that can arise with a full house in peak season but I was more than pleasantly surprised by this place and I definitely plan on coming back if I'm ever in the area. I know there are some really negative reviews but you should really give this place a chance. I travel and work in the service industry for a living and I totally ate my cynical pre-judging words by the time we left. read more

We had outstanding service (Josie was our server) even though the hostess at the front was less than helpful and we were told to "grab a couple of menus and find a table in the back". We stopped here for dinner midweek after traveling all day. There aren't a ton of options in Wall, so we decided to check this place out. The first thing we noticed was how bright and clean it was! They had a great selection of regional beers on tap, and our waitress was friendly and attentive. We got the cheese curds and fried pickles - both were fantastic! Also on the table was the chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steak, sirloin, and buffalo burger. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes appeared real (!) and the baby bakers (roasted potatoes) were done perfectly. Our entrees came with a spring mix salad that was perfect after days of "road trip food." After walking around for a couple minutes and realizing our gps was continually directing us to Badlands Saloon and Grille, we looked through the window and saw a big sign about half way back in the restaurant saying Badlands Bar. Initial impressions were good. Clean and new looking. We sat at the bar and didn't have our drink orders taken for at least 10 minutes. Another customer leaned over and commented to us that service was very slow. No kidding!! When the bar tender finally came over she was very nice, but clearly running in several directions. No biggie. She got our drinks and took our orders. I went with a burger, as they were out of what I wanted, and I try not to order $25+ steaks at non-steakhouses (it just doesn't end well). My wife ordered the caprese pizza. After about 45 minutes the food finally arrived. My burger was clearly a patty and not freshly made. If you're going to charge more than $10 for a burger, at least make it fresh. Otherwise it was ok. Unfortunately, as burgers go, once you enter the patty world you pretty much doom yourself to an average, at best, burger. My wife's pizza was ok. Thin crust was soft (nice way of saying soggy) so she had to eat it with a fork. Mozzarella was in squares and looked like it came off a big, processed block.
