I mean, I guess I could say the food wasn't bad but nothing great I used to come here often and the turkey sandwich with cranberry and sprouts is my absolute favorite. My bagel was pretty hard. Yes I got it toasted, but it usually doesn't make it as hard as it was. The service was OK. They did short me on my change lol she had said something about oh I just need to get another dollar. I told her don't worry about the dollar throw it in the tip jar so she threw the other four dollars in the tip jar as well, my change was right besides a tip which I would've left but maybe a dollar or two definitely not five. To be honest when the girl asked me if it was for here or to go, and I said here she looked kind of annoyed. Typical bagel bagel place- has a little bit of everything all around, limited seating while we were finishing There was a couple waiting to sit down I do understand it's usually a grab and go situation so that's OK. Everything was clean and there were things like bag, straws, etc.. I guess nothing major to report

If you happen to be in the Salinas area and are a fan of bagels, look no further because "Bagel Bakery" just might be what you're looking for. This has actually been a reputable long-lasting business for locals making fresh, homemade bagels for years. They have two locations in Salinas; one is on North Davis Rd. (near Highway 101) and the one I am reviewing is in a small strip mall on W. Alisal St. in between Blanco Rd. and W. Acacia St. I arrived here on a beautiful Sunday morning with my wife as we needed to get our bagel fix to start the day. The interior is rather small yet they still offer a few tables if you wish to dine in. Their menu is very extensive and considering they specialize in bagels, there are a ton of options available including bagel deli sandwiches, create-a-sandwich, and omelet-on-a-bagel. They also offer a very impressive variety of coffee drinks (hot, iced, or blended), smoothies, milk teas, and even Boba drinks. After deciding what kind of hearty bagel I wanted to start my day, I finally settled with their "Sausage, Egg, & Cheddar Cheese" on a garlic bagel. My lady orders their "Plain Bagel" complete with cream cheese and alfalfa sprouts. Even though it was busy with customers continuously coming in, both our bagels are ready in about 5 minutes. After unwrapping the paper to my bagel sandwich, I was quite impressed with how thick the dough was in this bagel. Not only that but it was spongy soft and actually a little difficult to take a bite unless I pressed down to eat it. The sausage and scrambled egg were nothing special but definitely a big step up from any traditional fast food joint. The cheddar cheese was ooey and gooey and as you can see from my pic, it was well executed with each and every bite. Overall, "Bagel Bakery" is worth checking out. Just their selection alone is enough reason that you can visit this place every day of the month and there will still be something new to order. Great service, competitively low prices on everything, and very tasty bagels. My rating, an above average four stars!

    Review continued

Ok, so I mostly use Yelp to find nearby restaurants and have never written a review, but I felt compelled to do so for the Bagel Bakery (W. Alisal). As people say, if I could give zero stars, I would, but that wasn't an option. On 10/31/22, I ordered from here and ordered 6 items: a turkey club sandwich, 1 bag of chips, 2 cookies (oatmeal and chocolate chip) and 2 drinks (Arizona green tea and Sunny D). I grabbed a newspaper and went to the car to drop off my food items while my sandwich was being made. I was with my daughter so my hands were a little full. When I came back inside, the cashier/manager (owner?) rang me up for $37.31 and gave me my sandwich. I paid with Apple Pay and left. When I got home, I realized that I paid almost $40 for very little. I decided to go back that afternoon at 4:40 pm to dispute the charges, but they had closed early. They normally close at 5:00. So, I went back today, 11/1/22 around 9:40 am. I approached the lady that I know speaks Spanish and asked her in Spanish if she could help me price the items and told her that I was overcharged. She started to help me and I was hoping she would just tell me prices before I bring it up to the manager, but she involved the manager right away. She asked what I bought and I told her the items. She began to say that I got 3 cookies. Then the manager stepped in and asked me how much I paid. I told him "you have the prices, why don't you tell me?" He was referring to the total I paid and asked what time I made the purchase. I told him 11:45 am and he casually looked through his IPad. I found it odd that the lady first stated that I bought extra items and when I assured her that I didn't, she said, "I don't know, talk to him." He then asked me what I bought and I asked him if he tracks each item when he rings up customers? I repeated what I bought and he insisted I ordered a sandwich with avocado, so that was an extra charge. I said I didn't specifically say I wanted avocado, so that was on them if they included it. He said well the sandwich comes with avocado, so I have to charge you extra. That doesn't make sense if avocado is an option. This is where things escalated quickly. I asked them to please give me the prices of each item I purchased. Here it goes: Turkey Club sandwich (on white bread not bagel) -$14 *sandwich is $12.50 and avocado is $1.50 extra which I didn't ask for Bag of bbq chips - $1.50 Chocolate chip cookie - $1.75 Oatmeal cookie - $1.75 Sunny D - $2.00 Arizona green tea (bottle) - $2.50 Total = $23.50 The math wasn't mathing! It should have been $23.50 plus tax. Tax is not an extra $14 and some change. He wanted to play stupid and he said, "ok, let me do the total to fix it." I told him that we just went t over the total. I said, you don't have prices listed on all your items and I said that he charged me extra when my back was turned. I reminded him that I went out to the car and when I came back inside he had the total rung up. I said that it wasn't right to do that. He started to raise his voice and repeatedly say, "You saying that I cheat you?!" "I don't cheat you, I'm going to give you you're money back!" I said, "well, run me my money then!" He said, "I don't fucking cheat you!" I told him, "You have cameras in here. Look back at the video footage to see when I went outside to my car, you rang up the total and charged me when I came back inside!" I got pissed that he started to cuss at me and I started to yell back. He then proceeded to play the race card and say, "You accuse me of cheating because I'm Asian!" I couldn't really believe what he said, so I asked him to repeat himself. When he repeated it, I said, "Oh please, I don't even care about that. I care about you doing good business!" He said, "I'm going to give you your money, but you say I'm a cheater!" I said "well you charged me without me looking! That's not right!" He then proceeded to call me a motherfucker! That's right, a MOTHERFUCKER! He said, "You motherfucker say I cheat! I lost my shit and said, "Oh, I'm a motherfucker now?!" And I proceeded to let the other customers know. "Did you hear that? This guy just called me a motherfucker! Wow, that's the way you speak to your customers?!" The worst was not over. He grabbed money out of the register and threw it at me! Fucking threw the money at me! I flipped him off and told him that I would be writing a review to let everyone know that he runs a shady business and as I was walking out the door, I let the remaining customers in the store know, "Don't buy anything from this store anymore. He cheats customers!" I grabbed the money and left. To be transparent, he threw $40 at me, which I definitely grabbed off the counter before leaving. The difference was only about $14, but hey, if he wanted to comp me for the entire total, then why not? I'm not mad at that. *Part 2 in photos.

If you are looking for a bagel sandwich, this is the place. They have several choices, my favorite is the garlic bagel. I always go for the Vietnamese iced coffee! It is a bit pricy as their prices went up.

The wax paper wasn't removed from the turkey.

A plain BLT with turkey was $9.00. This is a bit excessive for a bagel sandwich. Long wait.

It is tucked in the corner of a small shopping center in the town of Prunedale, near the intersection of Highways 156 and 101. While the outside is nondescript, the bakery itself is beautiful on the inside and the selection of baked goods is extensive and spectacular. So many unique and tempting creations. It is difficult to choose one thing to order because there are so many that look amazing. We tried what they call a roulette which is a round layered pastry that is loaded with flavor. It was absolutely delicious. Not too sweet but just right. The disappointing factor at Gourmet Central Bakery is the coffee. It was incredible weak and flavorless. Not sure if it was the beans they use or the mix of water to coffee, but it was hugely disappointing. It did not compliment whatsoever their incredible baked goods. I hope they will focus on providing beverages that match the quality and creativity of their pastries. I would say check out GCB for all of their incredible baked goods, just don't order coffee until they make some changes. Their baked goods deserve, as do customers, a satisfying coffee pairing.

So glad I did. Delicious baked items at reasonable prices. Right when I walked in, I was greeted by a young woman that had the best smile and attitude. She was super helpful. I chatted her up a bit and found out they opened in 2021 and it's a family business. The recipes are family recipes. Luv that! Also I had to ask about the prices, there are no prices marked for the baked goods. The case had cookies, cream pies (whole and slices), croissants, muffins, scones, cream puffs, eclairs, mini fruit tarts, cheesecake (whole and slices), and danishes. They all were just so gorgeous. Sitting so pretty in the case. We bought a carrot cake muffin, slice of banana cream pie, a Grandpa David's peanut butter cookie, and a chocolate chip cookie. The cashier packaged everything carefully and provided napkins and forks. The muffins were big, fat and hefty sized. The carrot cake muffin was moist but not so much that it fell apart. So darn good. The frosting was heavenly, not too sweet and just the prefect consistency. I devoured that right away in the car. While I was inhaling the muffin, Hubs scarfed down the banana cream pie slice. The cookies were nice "biggish" size. These cookies were moist, which I prefer over crisp crunchy ones. Grandma Dave's PB was one of the best PB cookies I've ever had. They are also have breakfast menu and lunch menu (burgers, sandwiches, and salads). The place is very small with few two person tables. It's more of takeout place.

Starting with the Supercharger, this was easily the standout of the two. It's loaded with roast beef, bacon, turkey, ham, salami, pepperoncini, tomatoes, red onions, gouda cheese, and chipotle aioli on a ciabatta roll. They definitely don't skimp on the meat, which makes it super satisfying. The combination of the soft ciabatta and cheese worked really well together and balanced out the heaviness of the meats. My only complaint is that it could've used a bit more sauce, something like extra mustard or mayo would've taken it to the next level. Still, a strong 8.5/10. The Belair was decent but didn't quite hit the same level. It came with turkey breast, bacon, gouda cheese, spring mix, tomatoes, red onions, pepperoncini, and chipotle aioli on fresh sliced sourdough. Ours actually came with American cheese instead of gouda, which slightly changed the flavor profile. It was a good sandwich overall, but noticeably drier, especially with the sourdough, so it definitely needed more sauce to bring everything together. I'd give it a 7.2/10. Service was fast and efficient, which I appreciated. The ambiance stood out too, it has a cool retro gas station vibe that gives the place some personality and makes it feel unique. Staff was friendly, and the overall experience was smooth.
