Been coming here a lot this summer and each time i leave confused about their pricing. It's inconsistent, even when i get the same things, and it's always somehow a higher price than what you'd expect, even when taking tax into consideration. Almost like their system is set up to give themself a tip with the click of a button. Even though they print a receipt (with no itemization on what the prices of each item were) with an option to tip at the bottom. Makes me want to go find a different place to get my bagels, even though i like theirs. read more

Early weekend riser visiting family in the area. I had an interest in some bagels and wanted to try theirs. I arrived shortly after opening. Open sign was off. I waited about 10 minutes before talking to the person inside. They said thats the bagels would be delivered later - like 10 minutes. I ran over toLucky for some items and grabbed some items. When I came back 15 minutes later the open sign was still off and another person said they were still working on the bagels and it would be 15 minutes. I went home and called back almost 30 minutes later and they said they were ready but only had a few flavors - none that I was interested in. I searched the area and saw that panera sells bagels. I ordered online and paid much less for most of the flavors I was looking for. In the future, if I want fresh bagels, I will just order from panera even though I don't like patronizing large chain places. I'm guessing the Bagel Bakery has learned that the bagels aren't the most popular item and the area and have adjusted their business practices accordingly. My husband went in today to get two bagels and a couple of donuts she tried charging him 4 extra dollars for more "meat" when he simply asked for avocado on one. She got irritated and proceeded to takeoff the bacon with no gloves while she's Going back-and-forth to the cash register touching the cash, giving attitude and wrapping it all mad just because he didn't want to pay an extra 4 dollars for NOTHING . I've came here a couple times, I went in about two weeks ago to buy a bagel and three donuts and the man who was making my bagel was very nice and respectful but the lady who helped me at the register didn't even greet me, she took my credit card out of my hand and watched to see if I was gonna tip her and when she seen I didn't she threw my card at me and and didn't say word, I really like the sandwiches there but honestly that's my last time going because that lady is always in a bad ass mood. All the reviews that talk about being over-charged are correct. We ordered two bagels "with light cream cheese" (see below) menu price $3.29 - and nothing else. Assuming 8% tax, the total would be $7.11 but we were charged $8.01. When I pointed out that the total was not right I was told the extra was because our order was to-go. An extra charge for to-go was not on the menu and I have never experience that charge before. The bagel itself was ok. I normally ask for light cream cheese because most places smear it on too thickly for my taste. However, as noted above, as noted above, the menu specifies "light cream cheese." I quickly noted that the cream cheese was very bland and realized what they likely meant was "lite" cream cheese. Cream cheese certainly gets very soft on a freshly toasted bagel but this spread was VERY soft even though the bagel was totally cooled. Combined with the bland flavor, I wonder if it was actually cream cheese. read more

The lady at the register should not even be employed, with the level of money-handling dishonesty. She has consistently over-charged us for a few months now. She tried it today as well. I didn't say anything but boy did i notice on the total. I added it all up with tax. She should be forced to provide itemized receipts to be able to stay in business. When you get a bagel toasted here, first she microwaves it for 30 seconds, then toasts it. I think it's because they're slightly raw. I haven't been in my hometown in a while, and I was craving a fresh bagel like a madwoman. Much to my dismay, "Java Bagels" is now an italian restaraunt and I had to search elsewhere. I was recommended to this place by a friend, because it was the only "bagel shop" in town. The place was clean and fully stocked with yummy looking pastries, bagels, and drink options but in the end I was far from impressed. While the presentation of the product appeared good, the process of preparation was far from it. I asked for two different bagels TOASTED with cream cheese "to go" this morning. What I received were too microwaved bagels with a sloppy wad of cream cheese in the middle. When I got home to eat what I bought, I was horribly disappointed because the bagels were tough and lacking flavor. The cream cheese was clumpy and got all over the place. Not to mention there is a $5 limit for cards and the service was less than I could have hoped for. This town needs to stop getting rid of quality places and accepting less in return. Looks like Gilroy or San Juan Bautista may serve me better at this point. I will not recommend this place to anyone I know, nor will I be returning to it any time soon. read more

Customer service was mid. The guy baking was nice. Be cautious of the overcharging lady at the front. I noticed she charged me extra (the tax wasn't adding up). So I asked for my receipt and she "noticed" she had charged me a dollar more, so she refunded me a dollar. Bagels were really good and so was their cream cheese. Came here for a quick bite. Wanted to share a bagel and donut holes but after seeing that donut holes are 6 for $5.99 or 12 for $11.99, I passed on those. $1 for a donut hole seems a bit excessive. I also seen the lady at the register getting donuts for the customer in front of me and didn't wash her hands before or after. My bagel was ok but I think it may have needed to bake a little longer. If I could give less than one star I would. The lady handling the food was NOT wearing gloves. She was wearing one glove, charged me and did not see her wash her hands once. She was handling food WITHOUT a mask in the middle of a health pandemic. Aside from that she was rude , my food was disgusting at first bite. I've never thrown away food before but I just could not eat it. The chicken did not even look like chicken. Must have been like a week old by the looks of it. A complete health risk all around. This place was a surprise gem in Hollister. The staff was super friendly and they were jamming to the old school jams to keep work time, happy. They had a variety of donuts/doughnuts, as well as bagels and croissants. You can get a bagel sandwich for breakfast or for lunch. The prices were reasonable...2 chocolate iced, twist donuts, 1 apple fritter, a cheese bagel with egg & cheese and 2 plain bagels with egg & cheese for $19.11!! What a steal! If you're near here, stop by. It's healthier and cheaper than the crap at the "Golden Arches". 4 stars because they don't have a bathroom. read more

The good: Bagels taste great, as well as the donuts. Pretty friendly staff, and the owner always says hello.... The bad: The lady who works up front, seldom types in the same ammount on the cash register, I've had 2.02, 2.32, and 3.21 in the last 3 visits for a bagel and cream cheese....and when I came in with a coupon for buy a dozen, get free half dozen, she double charged my for the tub of cream cheeze. Watch the lady when she rings you up. You'll notice she over charges and each visit the prices vary to her liking. I've called her on it and her responses are ridiculous. Also, my son gabbed an Arizona drink and she rung it up as $1.50, I pointed out that the Arizona can has the retail price on the can as 99c, but she said her price was $1.50. My family and I have been going here for years. They really do have the best bagels in town. They also have donuts! those are yummy too. They make bagel sandwiches, they make breakfast croissants, and they make pizza! We've tried all of that and it's all super good.
