This morning was beautiful. I got up early, went outside, and did my yoga and meditation to start my day. Normally, my week gets off to a rocky start--especially on the Monday after a holiday--but today, on this Taco Tuesday, I turned it into a Terrific Tuesday. I decided to get some work done on the computer and then went to get my bike fixed. Mission accomplished: it's fixed, and I even fixed it myself! After that, it was time to go feed my hunger. I normally try to wait until noon to get my grub on, so I decided to head to the Bagel Boutique, grab a coffee, and see what these bagels were all about. Of course, just like anyone with a brain would do, I did my research first to see if it was a good place. Some PennLive articles popped up with awesome reviews, so I headed out. Being a New Yorker straight out of Manhattan, I have to say: these bagels were poop. They just tasted like the Thomas' bagels you can get from any grocery store. There was nothing special about them besides the creative toppings. I would never go out of my way to get a bagel from this place again. I wish I would've just ordered them on UberEats so I didn't have to waste gas money and time driving all the way from Harrisburg to Mechanicsburg. I'll definitely be giving this place another try. Hubs really enjoyed his sundried tomato bagel egg & bacon sandwich. I had an egg white delight on whole grain everything bagel. While I loved how much everything season is on the bagel, it made the bagel taste extra salty. It was to much salt & I just couldn't enjoy it. It fueled me for my day, but it wasn't savor worthy. The Bagel Boutique is an amazing addition to the breakfast scene in Mechanicsburg, combining classic NYC bagels with fun and unique flavor combos. I selected the peanut butter heaven, which was a super decadent bagel, almost more of a dessert than a breakfast item. Between the peanut butter cream cheese, Reese's cups, and chocolate sauce on a chocolate chip bagel, this is heaven for my fellow chocolate/PB lovers and feels different from what I usually see on the menu at your average bagel shop. You can of course get a classic savory sandwich or bagel with butter/cream cheese, but these more eclectic options are a fun way to switch it up! Service was a bit slow, we wound up ordering at a kiosk because the line at the register was taking awhile, and it still took us quite a bit to receive our food. The shop doesn't have that fast-paced efficiency of an NYC bagel joint, but the quality does make up for it. The quality of the food and selection on the menu is 100/10. The servers at kind yet a little frazzled .. but attentive. The efficiency still seems to need some work ... we should have ordered online ... but not sure that would have helped unless we did so an hour before. New Breakfast/Lunch venue in the Mechanicsburg area - woohoo! I waited a few weeks before braving the crowds for the first time ...was pleasantly surprised when I did. During both of my visits (so far), I ordered the 'Hollywood' Breakfast sandwich (toasted sesame seed hoagie roll, seasoned steak, two sunny side up eggs, gouda cheese, lettuce & tomato) - and each time it was great! Steak was perfectly done (juicy, not dry & overcooked). Dining is open-concept and can be quite noisy if it is during the busy times. This is really 3 1-2 stars. Food was good this visit - I had an everything bagel and coffee. Bagel was tasty, accompanied by a mountain of cream cheese. Too much for me, but I can't really complain about that. The coffee was good but there was something going on with the lid and I ended up staining my shirt. But I'll take the hit for that one. The reason I'm at 3 1-2 stars is the ordering system. There are two kiosks that are immediately to your right as you walk in. The location results in people lining up in a way that blocks the front door. It's pretty wonky and seemed to result in some confusion. I'm not sure there's a better option but this one isn't ideal. Food and coffee came out a bit slow, was about 10 minutes to get a toasted bagel and coffee. Staff was fine, didn't really have much interaction other than them yelling my name and me picking things up. Go to bagel boutique immediately! You will not be disappointed! I went early on Sunday morning. The line was manageable. They offer sandwiches, coffees, smoothies and have many creative bagel combos! I decided to get half a dozen to go. I got the everything, asiago and sun-dried tomato bagels. For the cream cheeses a.k.a. Schmears, I got the veggie and the chive and onion. Hands-down, these are the best schmears that I have ever had. I love a good bagel and love trying new bagel places in my travels. These by far are the best veggie and chive and onion cream cheeses I've ever had. They also have flavored butters. When we got near the front of the line the cashier says she couldn't take orders because her computer wasn't working and then she walked away. At that point, we'd already been there a while so we just left. Hopefully, management will develop a better system for crowd control. We went back during the week and it was a very positive experience. Ordered online with no trouble, and our food was awaiting pickup right on time. I won't be going back. This morning I stood in line at the counter while others were placing their orders. I had a quick question about a coffee before ordering -- I usually use the kiosk or order online, but today I wanted to ask in person. After waiting nearly ten minutes, when it was finally my turn, I was told (rudely) that they were "too busy" to take counter orders and that I needed to use the kiosk. Before I could even ask my question, the worker walked away and left me standing there. To make matters worse, when I turned around, a group of about eight teens had just walked in and filled every kiosk, leaving another long line. At that point I walked out unsatisfied. Truly 3.5 Pros- Tasty and fresh bagels, novelty varieties and an array of schemers. I don't have to drive to resslers anymore and it's just down the street from my house. Big fat breakfast sandwiches. Tasty flavor combos. Tasty, creative beverages and fresh juices. Cons- execution of bagel sandwiches. I don't enjoy eating them because all the contents drip from below. I find my self constantly reassembling the sandwich and looking like I have zero table manners from the mess. We asked for them to go light on the schmere and though it helped a wee bit, every thing still slid from below and dripped. I went during the 3 weeks of opening and have visited 1x a week since. All the sandwiches I have tried so far have not been easy to eat. They all are very flavorful though. Overall- The have an amazing foundation and a solid bagel. All ingredients individually are fresh and tasty. For now, I will just stick to bagels and spreads. Maybe I'll wait a few months before getting sandwiches. I will likely try lunch sandwiches. Very disappointing...I was so excited to see this pop up so close to home, but sadly Bagel did not have the consistency of a freshly made bagel, it was different...after speaking to some others who have tried this place I am hearing these bagels are not made in house, but rather shipped in and steamed before serving? I've been back and it was a good experience. The Guido Breakfast bagel sandwich was delicious. Beware though, it's huge. Great combination of flavors. I also picked up a half dozen bagels and a tub of the jalapeño cheddar cream cheese. They were delicious even a couple days later. I ask for the bagels to be sliced but not toasted. I wanted to like this place, it has great reviews online and it's themed, with different flavored bagels etc. Unfortunatley sometimes you just can't beat a simple, well-done bagel and this is not the place for that. I think it would serve them to go back to the basics... My lox and cream cheese bagel that I ordered did not come with the lox that we paid for... it was just cream cheese on one side loaded with more capers than I could count. Unfortunately we got our order to go and were almost 20 min away when we discovered the mishap or would've went back to have this corrected. You win some you lose some. My husbands bagel was called "california BLT". It sounded yummy but the reality was that this bagel wasn't done well... the lettuce was chopped like a salad, thee tomatoes were chopped like pico de gallo... it was wet, and they upsold him an egg which he got 'over easy'... so although this seemed like it would've been good together, sadly a thousand pieces of small thigns on a bagel just wasn't working and ended up everywhere , drippy, sloppy, and falling apart. To our disappointment the bread was also a 'doughy' consistency and not in a good way. it felt raw or maybe like it would have been better cooked more? Unsure, but the textures left something to be desired, with a soggy feel to it. We left underwhelmed and still hungry. I get that people like bagel places to be different and stand out, but most of the menu options seem like Diabetes orders (reeses smear and french toast bagels, fruity pebbles and oreos bagels). It's not our thing, and it's not really a place we want to encourage others to go if they care about their health. Again, it's a bagel place so take that for what it is, I understand this is Central PA but we can do better. Some of the bagels look like they had been dyed with food coloring, which also I get if you aren't worried about that sort of thing, no problem but food dye is something we intentionally avoid. If they had GF options or offered high-quality fresh bagel-ready toppings this place would be more appealing to us.
