This is a busy breakfast and lunch spot in Westfield that's open seven days a week. The bagels are only fair, with a cardboard-ish crust. The bialys are terrible, spongy and flavorless, and the cream cheese looks and tastes like spackling paste. They charge $7.99 for a dozen bagels on weekdays, and $10.80 for the exact same thing on weekends. What's up with that? The price should be the same on Friday that it is on Thursday. Everyone who works here is Middle-Eastern; Maybe they expect you to haggle over the price, like at an Arab market. I love this place. There is plenty of free parking in their lot which is a plus in Westfield. The bagels are made fresh daily with a wide variety to choose from. They make wonderful omelets, breakfast egg sandwiches, and delicious salads tuna, egg, white fish, lox spread , scallion spread etc.There coffee is a great accompaniment and whether you get a to go cup or a china mug, refills are always free. Bagel Chateau has plenty of seating if you choose to eat there for breakfast or lunch. I usually go in the am. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating . This place also does catering especially for the holidays. I have been coming here for years and have always been very happy . Next time your in the area please stop in and try it. read more

Two stars are strictly a reflection of the service the food is 4 stars. I am so disappointed, I've been buying bagels here since it was originally located in downtown Westfield. Over the last five years the service has gone down hill. "If I were playing Minecraft I would say it has been majorly corrupted." Almost every time we place a take-out order it's wrong! We live far enough away that it is just too far to go back and have it fixed. It's very deceiving, we'll go three times in a row and everything will be perfect, then the next time everything will be wrong. Then we'll go back and it will be fine again, then wrong. Asked 5 separate times how much longer it would be, couldn't get an answer on the status of the order and was completely ignored by everyone at the counter. For a bagel joint, I can't think of much more I would want. Think of a diner that only serves breakfast and lunch that is owned by a guy who loves bagels... a lot. Friendly service: After two visits they knew who my wife and I were and asked how we were (we go about once a week). Food: I am not going to start a turf war by saying they are the best bagels but I will say they are very good and homemade. Many options other than bagels such as French toast (3/5 stars) and omelettes (TBD). Good lunch menu too, I had a half turkey club which was great and plenty for a hungry dude. The meat they serve is Boars Head which is a big plus for me. Ambiance: Old homey diner that could use some loving... in other words, perfect for this kind of place. So disappointing...I guess I was spoiled with a great bagel place like Hot Bagels Abroad. That's the definition of awesome bagels. This place has a lot to learn. I wouldn't even put this place in my top 10. They do have a grill which does add a star but other than that, place is terrible. 1. There are 2 different lines to place your order...why does it have to be so confusing. "No, you need to go over there (in the middle of the food case) to order". Really? Why can't you just take my order here...F that! 2. Their bagels are Lenders-esque...flavorless but their olive cc isn't all that bad but doesn't make up for the lack of flavor of their bagels. 3. I guess living in this area you aren't exposed to good, quality bagels based on the reviews. None of these "Bagel Chateau's" are any good... 4. Their prices aren't bad with all things considered. 5. My brother brought us bagels and lox back from here so I can't comment on their service. Though my brother didn't have great things to say about it... The lox was very good. I scarfed it all down (except for the bit I let my husband have). My brother's fiancee said her iced coffee was very good, always a plus. Unfortunately, we weren't that impressed with the bagels themselves. They were very pale and undercooked, just way too doughy for our tastes. I would try them again and see if maybe it was an off day. But if that's just their style of bagels I don't think this would be a place I'd frequent. read more

We just needed a decent but quick breakfast, a local bagel place seemed logical. I don't know when our bagels were made, certainly not fresh. They were probably ok bagels when first made, but the taste was just ok and the chew was not right. The coffee was decent but please clean up that self service area. The method of ordering is not clear and was awkward. Two different lines. The whitefish salad was greasy. Who serves potato chips with a bagel! But, my favorite part is that they use the same clothe to clean the table tops to wipe down the chairs. So basically someone else sat on my eating surface. I ordered the sausage egg and cheese. It was alright, I've definitely had better. The egg and sausage weren't put on proportionally which resulted in some lopsided bites. Can't really knock a place for that though. What I do like about this place is how open it is. Most bagel shops are small and you don't have much space to sit and enjoy some food. Not the best bagel I've had, but certainly one of the better bagels in the area. The bagels are of "normal" size, and not gigantic as many places have been making them. I had an everything bagel (untoasted) with scallion cream cheese, nova-lox, onion, and tomato as well as a drink. They didn't skimp on either the nova or the cream cheese, and I ended up paying about $9 for my meal, which I felt was reasonable for what I ordered. Unfortunately, I felt the service was a little slow for an uncooked item, as everyone before and after me ordered eggs or some other cooked meal. Overall was very good. I would pick Bagel Chateau over the other area stores for another visit. read more

It is impossible to put into words how incredible this place is. I don't even know to start. I guess I'll start with the authentic perfect bagel smell when you first walk in. If you don't know what I'm talking about i feel genuinely bad for you. Next they have all of the classic NJ bagel place beverage options. You can go with an orange juice, Snapple, coffee (iced or hot) etc. Now the breakfast sandwiches are absolutely to die for. My breakfast sandwich order is a bacon egg and cheese on a toasted everything bagel with hot sauce. That is a huge part of my personality. The cream cheese is also good and there are plenty of options. Finally-- my favorite thing about this place -- they sell everything bagel seeds for $2. Unreal and incredible to have in your house. A million times better than the Trader Joe's version. Everything about bagel chateau is perfect and anyone who tells you otherwise has no personality, is probably not from the northeast, and therefore cannot be trusted. read more

They're perfect examples of why east coast style bagels are the best: properly boiled before being cooked, they come in all sorts of styles and flavors, and when the style involves a coating of any kind (like sesame seeds, etc) they even coat the bagel's baby BOTTOM! (few places do) Breakfast options are pretty solid too. They offer more or less standard diner-style food (and all day) but if you're there before 11 am then it's ridiculously cheap. Do not waste your money here. The owner is a nasty ripoff artist. My husband likes one of their breakfast menu items, so he took me there about 7 months ago. I ordered a "weekday breakfast special" and he overcharged me. I pointed it out, and he said "that's only til 11:00". which it did not say on the overhead menu, and it was just a few minutes past 11. He said what he charged me for included potatoes. I DID NOT WANT potatoes, that's why I ordered what I did. His attitude was: that's just tough. So I refused to go back - until my husband wanted to stop there today. I made sure it was well before 11:00. The same scenario occurred, except this time his explanation was "we don't honor our specials". Unfortunately my husband had already paid the tab, but then realized he had been overcharged. I told the sh-t head owner it was advertised right there above his head and he was honor bound to refund the extra charge. He said he would remove it from the blackboard. I insisted that it was there now, so that's what he should charge. He refused. Do not support this business, PLEASE. You could be treated better anywhere else. It's a RIP-OFF. read more

This is a great place for locals to load up for guests and to also stop in and hang out for a decent breakfast. You can spot the non locals pretty easily because the whole ordering process is a bit of a disaster. When you are a regular it is a disaster in a good way. If that makes sense. Portions are not loaded - so don't expect to leave stuffed. There homefries are insanely good. Quality over quantity for sure. Also - when leaving... leave a tip on the table for the bus boy. Tons of bagel and cream cheese flavors, several with the option of non-fat or non-dairy. They really pack the cream cheese on heavy and you get chips and a pickle to go with. Thumbs up for whole wheat everything bagel + nonfat scallion CC. Nom nom. The service is very New Jersey so be prepared for that. While standing in line the female cashier yelled out, "I haven't gotten my period in 3 years, honey!!!" in order to embarrass the owner. Needless to say, I think the customers were more embarrassed than anyone else. If you don't mind a little 'tude, definitely try it out. I recently came back to the area for the holidays after moving to California. While here, I have been hitting bagel and pizza places because its just not the same out in San Diego. Anyhow, in the area there are a lot of bagel places to choose from. This place ranks as one of the best. A plus is that you can have lunch there and pick up a half dozen bagels to go. The bagels are chewy, tasty, and not over cooked and not like eating a roll. The bagels actually seem better the next day, but I would recommend that you put them in some kind of sealed container or put the paper bag in a plastic without completely closing the plastic bag. Bigger inside than out. Fast paced local atmosphere. A bit overwhelming for a first timer, unclear where to be, where's the lines start and end, how to order. A very friendly fellow patron showed me the ropes thankfully and it was smooth sailing. Clean, fresh and well prepped food. Excellent bagels, cream cheese was over the top. My husband had a bagel with egg and sausage. Usually he ends up tossing the eggs when we are out but he actually loved it. Drinks from coolers, or coffee carrafes mostly, good selection. My childhood bagel place has rarely disappointed me. My big tip is to go early so that you get the freshest bagels possible. I'm also a huge fan of "The Dutch," a bagel sandwich with a weird mashed potato and cheese patty in the middle. Wait can be a bit long, usually 20 minutest at least on a weekend, but definitely worth it in my opinion. I always get the Italian Dutch or the Veggie Omelette (and substitute some veggies for others). Stopped by on Superbowl Sunday because I had won a $15 gift card a few months ago and wanted to get a couple of sandwiches. Haven't been there in a long time and didn't think to ask about the card. Didn't find out until after I went to pay that the machine wouldn't take it and had to pay our of pocket. I like the liveliness of the place but the ordering seems a little awkward. Ordered 2 sandwiches, both on rye. Mine was a chicken cutlet with tomato and lettuce. Ordered for my bf a pastrami and corned beef with Swiss cheese and Russian dressing on the side. Again both just on rye bread. Order came out to $18. thinking the sandwiches were going to be pretty large for the price but was very disappointed when I got them home. Both were pretty small for the price and I could have bought them either for alot less or bought larger somewhere else. I've been to other delis where I've gotten alot more for my money. I'll go back to use my gift card for some bagels and cream cheese but probably nothing else. read more

The whole experience of this place is brought down by the middle aged woman who works at the counter. She is incredibly rude. She barely speaks a word to the customer. She doesn't even hand me my credit card back properly. She will hold her hand out 6 inches in front her to give it back to me, while I have to then reach a couple feet over the counter to get it back. Not mention she also answers the phone when trying to place an order. She doesn't listen half of the time when I place my order over the phone and when I pick it up its usually wrong because of her.
