Long lines on the weekends for average bagels. Last week my wife walked in WITH HER OWN TRAVEL COFFEE MUG AND HER OWN TEA BAG. She asked for JUST HOT WATER and was told the COST FOR HOT WATER was $1.50. She inquired and asked, "I only want hot water, I have my own cup and tea bag." My husband and I were at Bagel Chateau a couple of weeks ago. He found out about it from a friend who goes there often. I ordered a muffin with a coffee and a fruit salad. Everything was delicious ... especially the coffee (raspberry chocolate... yum!) It was very busy for late morning but that's because it's that good. Fast service and we were able to find a table. I have been living in the area for about a year and have hit up a bunch of bagel spots. I am used to New York/Long Island bagels and the closest thing to that for me has been Manhattan Bagel. Although it is nice that usually when you order a bagel at Bagel Chateau that it comes with a side of potato chips, the bagels are just too hard and chewy for me. They must not be filtering the water or something. If you go to Manhattan Bagel, the bagels are so much softer, much more like a New York bagel. I tried to order scrambled eggs once and some guy at the Bagel Chateau just spoke over me and said "Up". He was really impatient, foreign, and probably hard of hearing and my eggs were just not what I wanted. I am waiting for the day when New Jersey will offer varieties of Tofu cream cheese and scooped out bagels like in Long Island and New York. Good bagels with a decent variety of both bagel types and cream cheese types, including a few low fat choices that are actually quite good. Pricing is a bit high but not outrageous. The location is nothing fancy, and in general it is a bit crowded and very noisy, as this is a popular place to bring families. One thing to note is that things are a little like a nyc deli during the lunch and breakfast rush. Things go fast and can get hectic and confusing. I've been coming here since high school.. so for over 10 years if you can believe that. Whenever I'm in town visiting my parents I have to stop here. I like that the bagels come with chips and a pickle for a more complete meal. The bagels are chewy and fresh and I really like the lox cream cheese. The only thing is that they have a $10 minimum for credit cards so keep that in mind. read more

I grew up in Westfeld - coming to the Chateau after soccer games, on weekends, and during lunch in High School. I haven't lived in Westfield for 8 years, but everytime I come back I ALWAYS stop at Bagel Chateau. They have - hands down- the best bagels in the world. The best. I recommend the Dutch (bagel with potatoes, onions, cheese, and magic) or just a toasted bagel with cream cheese (the cream cheese here is amazing - I dont know how they do it). They put a LOT of cream cheese on your bagel - enough for two bagels. Also, if you grew up around here, everytime you come back you will run into someone you once knew. Just a warning. read more

Bagel chateau is one of my weekly destinations. I love going here early in the morning before the crowds arrive. Their food is pretty good but I go here for their bagels. Their raisin walnut cream cheese on a plain bagel is delicious but do keep in mind that they put quite a lot of it on so you may need to scrape some off. All bagel sandwiches from this place are absolutely delicious. I love to get my lunch on a bagel- turkey, lettuce and mayo on a plain bagel! And the pork roll on an egg bagel is equally delicious for breakfast! My husband gets a scrambled egg and cheese bagel and he loves that as well. Also their crumb cake is amazing! If I had to say one bad thing it would just be that the line is always very long!! Which obviously isn't bad for them but can be a little inconvenient! It's definitely worth the wait though. I'm a fan of their breakfast sandwiches. I really like their egg and plain bagels. Their pumpernickel bagels were a little strong for me last time I had them but I still love the place. Although Bagel Chateau seemed very busy in the background when I called to order a catered brunch for 25, Adel took the time necessary to discuss all the particulars. The items ordered were delivered right on time and the driver was polite and professional. The food was plated beautifully and everything was fresh and delicious, especially the tuna and chicken salad and varieties of cream cheese that accompanied the very fresh bagels. I ordered a bagel with lox and cream cheese and I asked them to put some extra lox on it because they don't put enough on, so they charged me $17 and it still didn't have enough lox on it!!! What a bunch of crooks. One lox bagel, one bagel with eggs and cheese (they only put one egg in it by the way those cheep basters), and a dozen bagels costs me $40. And they aren't even that good. Why is this place even crowded on the weekends? I rather just drive an extra mile and get a good tasting bagel at a reasonable price.
