I wanted to check out the OG Bagel Uprising location in Del Ray before their second location opened up in Ballston, and I was pleasantly surprised by the pricing and the chewiness of the bagels. I stopped by sometime in the early afternoon last Wednesday to grab something for lunch and some bagels to go. SALMON, EGG, & AVOCADO - 10.75 I was pleasantly surprised that three very expensive ingredients in a bagel was only $10.75. I feel like most places charges $14+ for anything with smoked salmon on it. I chose the plain bagel for the least amount of mess (even though the sesame or garlic bagel would have been great). My bagel was perfectly toasted with the perfect chewiness. It was still really messy because this comes with an over easy egg, and the yolk got everywhere. Overall, great bagel sandwich. 1/2 DOZEN BAGELS - 10 The server who took my order told me asked if I wanted 10 bagels for $10 instead -- how could I say no? I grabbed some plains, sesames, poppy seeds, and a garlic. I've only tried the plain and garlic so far, and the garlic is a bit messy and leaves a lingering garlicky smell after I heated it up. I kind of liked it, but not for everyone. My friend enjoyed the sesame bagel! HOUSE MADE VEGAN CREAM CHEESE - 11 I was curious about their version of vegan cream cheese (made of coconut cream and tofu), so I bought a tub to try. It's not bad, but I don't love it. It has a very strong coconut cream flavor, which threw me off, and it melts really easily and does not hold its consistency well. Overall, good try, but I'll stick with regular cream cheese next time. Thankful that Bagel Uprising keeps their pricing more reasonable. I'm excited for their second location to open in Ballston, which is much closer to me. read more

Nice bagel shop located in Del Ray district of Alexandria. This business is tucked away in a nook of Mt Vernon Ave and is not as obvious as other street side businesses. They offer a large assortment of fresh made bagels, a large assortment of cream cheese varietals/spreads along with their fresh house made coffee. All of which are quite tasty. Aside from the bagels they also offer a large assortment of bagel sandwiches. This is a counter order operation with no inside dining available. Uncovered outside picnic tables are available if you want to enjoy your food on the premises which we did on this glorious spring day. Relative to staff they are super friendly and efficient in getting the food out which is important as this business is quite popular on Weekend mornings in particular. Excellent bagels and a friendly staff. Orders are prepared quickly. Bagel Uprising has a couple of downsides that could easily be remedied. First, the website doesn't allow you to look at the menu directly. You have to go thru the pretense of creating an order, with pickup date/time required before you can view the menu. And at the restaurant, the menu is on the exterior of the front door, so you need to memorize what you are going to order before going inside. I ordered the Del-Rachel (AKA Turkey Reuben). This was a delicious bagel sandwich. It's comprised of turkey, Swiss cheese, coleslaw and a special sauce. The Del-Rachel comes with some fabulous kettle chips and a pickle. I was able to request a sesame bagel for the sandwich. I wasn't down completely with the idea of coleslaw on a bagel, but they let me have the coleslaw on the side. What they call a creamy caraway coleslaw was actually tasty. In the end, my Del-Rachel was great and I will definitely be back. It may be a little difficult to find Bagel Uprising because it is set back from Mt. Vernon Ave and sandwiched between two other businesses. Also, note that although there is no indoor seating, there's plenty of picnic tables out front. read more

I love bagels and this spot didn't disappoint. Bringing a dozen home to FL with me! It's a small shop- kinda hidden between buildings but there's a lovely patio with shade and picnic tables . My son suggested this place for brunch, and we were happy he did. My Ooey Gooey with Bacon was delicious! The cinnamon bagel is covered with cinnamon crunch on both halves. Same with my husband's everything bagel - covered on both halves - which he noticed and appreciated. Nice spot if you want to eat outside, which is the only available seating. I just picked up my first order. With excitement, my husband and I got dressed to drive over half an hour here. I heard about it, read about it and wanted to visit another weekend and didn't make it. I read it could be busy so I felt well prepared by preordering. As parking is tight in Del Ray, we circled before finding a spot. Ok the disappointment started upon approaching the door. There was a line and since I had not been here before I proceeded to the cashier. . I politely waited for her to complete her transaction, then asked her...GM, I placed an order...HER FACE. HER REACTION. No smile. No greeting. She pointed by the door and said it should be over there as if I was being scolded. She then said, if it's not there, it'll be out shortly...I think is what she said as her voice trailed. I then looked and didn't see my order and then waited a few minutes and it came out. The guy that brought the bag out was careless too. He placed my bag on the top shelf and kinda tossed it so the bag flipped backwards. He didn't attempt to set it straight as an onlooker did it for him. I then said, kindly pass it to me since it was my order. Next time, remember people have choices to eat, MANY between my house and your shop. I won't bother if I can't be greeted kindly, rather than treat me like an obnoxious patron. Busy or not. I went to Bagel Uprising recently and while I was not blown away, it was a solid experience and one of the very few places I have found in the DC area that actually does a salt bagel, which I really appreciate. The bagel itself was decent and satisfying, even if it did not totally wow me. I also noticed they offer egg salad, which caught my attention since I love a good egg salad and will definitely be trying that next time. I have a pedicure spot nearby and I am always in the mood for a good bagel, so I can easily see myself coming back. We love a good bagel sandwich. We've been trying to find new bagel places and Bagel Uprising kept coming up. Del Rey spots have always been rough and near Bagel Uprising is no different. It's kind of down a small alley and is tucked in a little corner. The shop isn't too big, not much sitting room inside at all but there was some spots outside. We went in and the smells inside were immaculate. Luckily they weren't too busy after 1 PM (Sunday). We got a pastrami, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel, A classic bagel sandwich with salmon, a 6 pack of mini babka, and 2 hash browns. They were pretty quick with our order, about 10 minutes. The pastrami, egg, and cheese was pretty good. The bagel was chewy and there was good amount of pastrami. The classic with salmon was also good. Nice amount of salmon and toppings. Hash browns weren't really crispy but still decent. Babka muffins were nice bite sized treats, not too sweet. I would come back if I'm around the Del Rey area for breakfast. The bottom line: good bagel nook with friendly local service. I frequently grab a mixed dozen (and sometimes ridiculously expensive cream cheese) for work or home and am always satisfied. The bagels are tasty (I love everything), though small, and it's an easy jaunt. It's about $20 for the bakers dozen and the tiny cream cheese tub adds about $6, so definitely grab some at the super market. I've not had any of the sandwiches, but there always seems to be people lined up to get them. Overall, a great local shop to grab a tasty round. 4.5 read more

I am not sure if it is the water or what the special ingredient is but I really like Uprising's bagels. If you visit there are some outside tables where you can eat. Service is quick and you can get your bagel toasted with your smear of cream cheese. Normally, I prefer the everything bagel but I really like their cinnamon bagel. The service here was great and I really liked the cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately, the texture of the cinnamon bagel wasn't great, and the cream cheese was completely melted and made it hard to eat. I did love the flavor of the raspberry cream cheese, which had actual bits of raspberry! I got another bagel to go (no toppings) for the next day, but it had the same unpleasant, tough texture. They're also admittedly very small, which I liked for the sweet bagel but would have hated for a savory sandwich one. Glad I tried them and still open to trying the savory fillings, but strictly bagel-wise it's a miss for me. I think Bethesda Bagels has been my favorite locally so far. There's no indoor seating, so plan to take your order to go if the weather isn't good. Favorite spot in the DMV for bagels--the bread is dense, chewy, crusty in all the right places, and tender where it matters. I'm a smear and bagel kinda gal so can't speak on the sandwiches. My faves are the everything, poppy, and cinnamon bagels with plain cream cheese. The cinnamon is unique, with a sweet sticky crust; just make sure you eat it as soon as you get it. Day old cinnamon ones tend to get stale fast and lose their yummy chew. They have fun cream cheese flavors but I find the scallion and green goddess a bit too herbaceous, like stringy raw scallion chunks and chopped fresh herbs. Not bad, just prefer a smoother blend of flavor. Overall, true to its name, the most of an uprising you'll see in Del Ray is a bagel one on weekend mornings. read more

These are 100% the best bagels I've had in Alexandria have more notes in common w/ NYC than other offerings in town. Recommend you try and see where it lands for you. If you are using DoorDash, take note--looks like delivery charges an additional $1.00- 1.50 per item ordered (incl. cream cheese tubs). That and deliver tip--now you are talking real $$$. I woke up today and wanted a bagel sandwich for breakfast. I found this shop on TikTok. We got the egg, bacon and cheese on an everything bagel. Then we got the classic bagel, and I asked and requested no tomato. Well, looks like they must have been busy and did not glance at the ticket (see in the pic) but it said no tomato. I dislike the flavor-texture of tomato on sandwiches. I def would like to try this place again and get a different bagel sandwich. I wish they had egg bagels, unsure if they do or not. I just happened upon Bagel Uprising this morning. Such a pleasant surprise it was. I was running some errands on Mount Vernon Avenue and decided to grab a bite before heading home. I got lucky. I landed a parking space right out front and there were only three or four people ahead of me. Everything moved fast and efficiently. I ordered the special which was a ham, egg, hashbrown and cheese breakfast bagel. I got it on a plain bagel with Swiss and chives and onions cream cheese. Overall, the bagel was pretty good. I would definitely go back to try something else. The texture of the bagel is a little chewy...which I like. The flavor was spot on. My mom was with me and she got the special as well except she got it on an everything bagel. On a scale of 1-10, she rated it a 7. This says a lot. My mom can be a foodie/bagel snob. She also said she would definitely return. I must admit I was shocked. She is a huge fan of Bethesda Bagels. Bagel Uprising has a very community feel to it. You could tell from the various interactions, a number of people in the super long line that formed behind me were repeat customers. It's always great to go to familiar places where people may not know your name...but they know your face and favorite bagel order. By the way...there is no place to eat inside. However, there is plenty of seating outside. On a nice day, it's a great place to grab a bite and chat with family or friends. We also saw a lot of fur babies who had come along for a bagel break with their fur parents. The area seems to be very walk and pet friendly. Do not hesitate to give Bagel Uprising a try. You won't be disappointed. By the way, the bagel "flavor" selection is not huge. But, it has the staples. I prefer really good staples over a large selection to choose from that may only be middle of the road on taste and quality. The cream cheese tasted off to me and kind of ruined the bagel. It had a citrus taste to it. Like many reviews say it is a smaller bagel but priced the same as other spots. Heard about Bagel Uprising through a local Instagram influencer and decided to check them out on a Friday morning a little before 9am. What a cute little shop in a great location! I did have to park on the street and walk a bit but I didn't mind as it was a beautiful day. I got an everything bagel with cream cheese & smoked salmon and sat outside on the picnic tables in front to enjoy it. What a delicious bagel & the most relaxing way to start my day! If you're from NJ and know what an amazing bagel is, Bagel Uprising is, unfortunately, not the place for you. I love a small, divey bagel shop so I wanted to love this place. Sadly, the bagels are pretty terrible. An excellent bagel is boiled then baked, resulting in a perfectly crunchy, golden exterior and a soft yet slightly chewy interior. The Bagel Uprising bagel was extremely tough, almost too chewy to break down and pretty tasteless. I thought maybe it was just my bagel, but I ordered a half dozen and they are all the same. As a native NYer, it's been a struggle to find legit bagels in the DC area. After living in the area for over 12 years, I've finally found my go-to bagel place! I've tried nearly every bagel that Bagel Uprising has to offer and every single one has been amazing. Their bagel schmears are all just as delicious.
