It's been a while since we came here and we wanted to give it a try again. I'm pretty sure that this place has been through a few owners since we last came here. Hubs ordered the 3 tacos lengua and liked it a lot. Lengua is his usual go to for taco. He thought it was awesome and liked it that they still provide 2 tortillas per taco. Other places would skimp and only give one tortilla. Their salsas were very tasty. I ordered the Bistec A La Mexicana. This was tasty but it was a bit overdone and tough. Hubs agreed and also said that it was tasty. Service was very friendly and quick. Will return to try other items on the menu. read more

If your looking for delicious authentic Mexican food in a no frills environment this place is for you! You know when the place is authentic when your waitress can't even speak English! I just pointed to what I wanted and she had an app to translate my English into Spanish on her phone. They start you with chips and a green dip that was so flavorful. It tasted amazing! I had the chicken fajitas chimichanga topped with green sauce for my entree, and that came with rice and beans. It was like a home cooked Mexican meal. It was DELICIOUS! The chimichanga was packed with authentically seasoned chicken. They have their specials for the day posted on their back wall. This place is 100 percent authentic and CASH ONLY! Unlimited CHIPS! I happen to be in Freehold area and I decided to go on Yelp and give a try for some local restaurants! It took me awhile to choose the right place I wanted since Freehold is filled with spanish restaurants and that is what I was looking for. Finally, I made my mind to go with Bahia De Acapulco. As soon as I walked into the restaurant I felt like I'm in a different country: interior design, latino music and etc. I really fell in love with it. Staff is incredibly welcoming as well as visitors. There was a guy sitting next to us with a case of beer and an amazingly looking meal. Every time I looked at him he would either offer me a bottle of beer or spicy latino snacks. After our dishes arrived, OMG they looked amazing. Quesadillas with beef and Acapulco fajitas with beef were delicious! I really liked the Quesadillas. They were soft with a slight crispy burn to it and mouth watering beef. Yes, bathroom does need a lot of maintenance: broken hanging door, cracked dispenser and random stuff just sitting there in the corner. To be honest with you, I do not mind any of the flaws of the place, I am here for a food experience. Overall, if you are looking for an authentic Mexican place this is the place to visit. Don't come for the glitz and glam because you wont find it here in this casual neighborhood spot, but what you WILL find is amazing, authentic eats in the heart of Freehold. We were craving mexican while passing by freehold and while there were many many mexican restaurant options clustered together in downtown freehold, this place was the real gem!! We walked around and peeked into at least 5 different restaurants before deciding that this was the one! Authentic feel, inviting smell, friendly staff. You can tell by the people who were eating there, that it was the most authentic. Lots of locals who were even offerring beer and nuts. Complimentary and unlimited homemade chips and green sauce! The food came in such big portions and it was delicious!!! Could not stop eating the rice and the beef quesadillas. Everything tasted authentic and really amazing. Would love to try their platters and enchiladas next time. This place was also more affordable than the others around it. Also, CASH ONLY. They do have an atm inside and a wells fargo nearby. What happened to this place? The food used to be fresh and tasty. Now they are more expensive and the food is nowhere close to what they once served. The beef in the burrito I ordered for take out smelled terrible and tasted stale and went into the garbage. My husband's chicken tacos gave him an upset stomach. He said the meat also tasted bad. Let me start out by saying the food is absolutely delicious. 5 stars on the food! This was our go to spot for authentic Mexican food. We've ordered quesadillas, tacos, guacamole, fajitas, rice, beans, shrimp....everything always comes out perfect. Our last encounter was on 11/10/22 when it came to the bill. We didn't have our normal server. This server was friendly enough but not superior where she deserved the alleged hidden tip she calculated herself. We were a party of 6. One meal was a kid's meal. 3 beverages were ordered, the rest had water. The bill should have been around $100. We attempted to pay by credit card but were told the machine was down so we had to pay cash. The handwritten bill came out to $122 even. We weren't sure how when there were a few dishes that ended in $0.99. Nonetheless, we calculated the bill and the bill came out to slightly over $105. When we attempted to inquire how the bill came to $122, our server now only spoke Spanish. Luckily for her, we're Puerto Rican and asked in Spanish. She defensively stated that the balance was the tax. So we asked her what was the tax she used to calculate and if tip was included. She stated the tip was not included and the tax was 6.75%. We showed her how the bill should have come to approximately $113. She then stated in an accusatory tone that we should pay whatever we think we should because she didn't want any problems from us. I am still floored as I write. This review took me a couple days to mull over. I think all the diners should be aware of the great miscalculation. We will not return to this establishment. read more

This place sure knows how to make tortas and I can't wait to go back for more. Bahia de Acapulco is a little hole-in-the-wall establishment right in downtown Freehold and serves up really delicious, fresh, and authentic Mexican food with great prices. We ordered a torta al pastor, tacos al pastor (that pork and pineapple combo though...amazing), the Acapulco salad with two glasses of agua de Jamaica. The Jamaica drink was homemade and not overly sweet, I definitely recommend this. The salad had a delicious homemade dressing and the tacos and tortas were full of flavor. They stuffed the torta al pastor full of meat, beans, avocado, lettuce, tomato, sautéed onion, cheese, crema, hot peppers...you name it, it was in there. Where there is much competition in the area, Bahia de Acapulco stands out as one of the best Mexican restaurants and absolutely serves the best tortas I've had to eat here in the US. read more

My husband and I stopped here on Saturday on the way home from a memorial service. We'd been wanting something good, not too expensive, and tasty. This place fit the bill! I think we were the only gringos in the place, but that never bothers us, it just let's us know that the locals find it authentic. The specials were all in Spanish. Not a problem, husband is fluent. We were given menus as soon as we came in, the waitress pointed out the specials, we didn't have any problems and we each decided to get an assortment of tacos. I ordered two pork carnitas and one chicken. I found the pork to be especially tasty. My husband had beef, pork (carnitas and al pastor). He loved them. He also liked the tamarind soda he ordered. Used to be go to spot for authentic tacos, then they started making up prices because I do not speak spanish. They upcharge non-Mexicans, and think we do not notice. Tried to charge $20 for an order of tacos. Was not always like that, and the cook was in on it. (The cashier asked the cook what she should charge us, and he said to up the price. they did not know i understand spanish.) Everything is tasty - the salsa verde & nachos are a great prerequisite to a meal. We had 2 servings. Upon request of the 3rd basket we were told there would be a $2.00 charge. I didn't mind because it's clearly a small establishment (even Chipotle charges for chips ‍). When the food came out, we were both excited! The rice & beans are FRESH, DE-licious, & meat-free! My favorite place in town. There aren't many tables, but we've been lucky to get one every time we go. There's usually a good amount of people there. The food is delicious, the prices are unbeatable and everyone there is super friendly. It's BYO and they accept credit. You can also get take-out. The guacamole was excellent and perfectly balanced, my favorite carnivore's beef and pork tacos were quickly inhaled with guttural pleasure, and my shrimp and tilapia in garlic sauce were delicious, but I don't know if I will order them again. The combination of garlic and black beans in one's intestines is decidedly deadly. I also picked up an order of enchiladas for later consumption - one of my favorites here. The food is A1 authentic here. The steak tacos were great. The meat was anyway. I did not care for the corn tortillas. I prefer flour ones myself but yhe meat was seasoned to perfect and the onions were not over bearing. The chicken quesadilla was meaty and cheesey. The rice with corn and black beans were awesome. I would not order the tacos again due to the tortillas but i would stop in for other entrees from here. I also had watermelon juice and the waitress was very nice. Pretty authentic Mexican food at great prices. It's literally a hole in the wall, but don't let that stop you. Unfortunately the girl who took our order had no idea what she was doing. Once we got our order in, we waited and got our food within 10-15 minutes.
