Visited this gem of a restaurant after 4 years and it didn't disappoint. The seating indoor is quite small with about 4-5 tables but they do have outdoor seating available. Probably the only Mexican restaurant where I order Enchiladas. Their homemade sauces are just too good, especially the verde (green sauce). My husband and I were looking for a different place to try for dinner and came across this local restaurant, Taqueria Maria's. The food was fresh and delicious, the waitstaff were very attentive checking in regularly and there was an extensive menu selection. (we had the Salmon Acapulquena and Tilapia Burrito Bowl) It was obvious by the number of people at the indoor and outdoor tables, and those doing take out orders, that this is a restaurant worth going to. Usually love this place but have to leave a comment again how awful their enchilada sauce is. I forgot I didn't like it and chose Mexican takeout for Mothers Day just because I wanted enchiladas. Regret from first bite. Tortillas on the enchiladas were bland and stale tasting, barely cooked. Meat was okay, not great. Sauce tastes like Italian tomato sauce. I've had Taqueria Maria's bookmarked for a very long time and finally stopped in this week for dinner. It's very small inside but they have plenty of outdoor seating. They are byob. The menu is huge they literally have something for everyone. They deliver chips to your table as soon as you sit down. We started out with the chunky guac which is literally chucks of avocado, tomatoes and onions. It went well with the tostones. I had the burrito bowl loaded with beans, lettuce rice and salsa. It comes in a crispy shell. My friends got fish and shrimp tacos. Everyone was really happy with their meals. Our server was wonderful and everything came out just how we asked. This is a family run, hole in the wall restaurant that serves really good Mexican food! I have tried both the red and green vegetarian enchiladas. I prefer the green one as it's much more spicy. If new ownership think they can keep the name and produce absolute subpar product they are sadly mistaken - and have taken a wonderful hole in the wall serving consistently delicious food and run it into the ground. YOU are offering taco tuesday - any taco $1.50 each. Coincidentally we ordered dinnrr yesterday and it's funny my husband said they're different - we also ordered one taco to check it out to see if we'll want to take advantage of taco tuesday'. One thing I miss from living in Queens for a few years was the hole in the wall mexican takeout spots that had the queso enchiladas verdes which were super spicy and had the melted cheese inside. Some of the places around here got good enchiladas verdes, but not the super cheesy style. Well this place almost hit the mark. I took the chance by placing the order for delivery via Uber Eats. One thing to note is that I don't actually remember the last time I've placed an order for delivery, but I didn't feel like driving 15-20 mins each way to pick it up. Thought it would get a bit too cold when I returned. Unfortunately, the Uber Eats guy took a far bit too long to get my order (including spending an extra 10 mins or so looping around a roundabout way getting to my place), so the order came in like an hour and 10 mins. Welp. At least the driver was remorseful, but this is not the restaurant's fault. With that said, it held up decently well. It's definitely got a kick to it and you can kinda tell by the darkness of the verde sauce. I had to warm it up just like 10 seconds, but it ended up being perfect. The beans & rice were much needed due to the spiciness. I'd likely spend the money to come back here. Maybe I'll actually pick it up for takeout, but it seems worth it to just sit there and eat when I can while it's hot and ready. read more

I was so pleased with this spot I took a menu, my partner and I will be back (the menu options are EXTENSIVE and I would love to try it all after our initial experience.) The environment inside felt a little cramped but not uncomfortable, we opted for the patio that was parking lot adjacent but felt tucked away enough with the cover and lovely florals they've put along the side. The house salsas are phenomenal, I REALLY could just eat the verde with a spoon, I was pouring it on everything. The service? Top notch care from an older gentleman, speedy and efficient but considerate service from the get of arrival to well past the check; he even brought my partners card to us in the CAR as he had left it behind! A warm weather day calls for an outdoor dinner at Maria's! Got my usual go to which is Maria's Burrito. A regular burrito but drenched in their mole sauce. Then I add their la diabla sauce on top to make it spicy. Chefs Kiss. The shrimp la diabla is also a good go to and that thing packs heat! The residential cat was out and about. The food be bussin'. Authentic. Genuine. Flavorful. These are the words that I would use in describing Taqueria Maria's. We have eaten from Taqueria Maria's previously, however, that occasion called for take-out. I recall the food being rather good. However, it wasn't until we chose to dine-in at the location that we were reminded of how amazing the food is. While the menu inclined towards the Tex-Mex varietal, I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. The ambiance - the music, neutral clay tones of the walls and flooring, and the sound of sizzling food on the griddle echoing from the kitchen - really set the mood and complimented the authenticity of the food. The staff seemed very happy-go-lucky and were incredibly friendly in their service. Beginning with the complimentary nacho chips, you will be pleasantly treated with two different salsas (verde and roja). While neither were incredibly spicy on the Scoville spectrum, they both hold their individual uniqueness. The verde sauce definitely has a bigger kick than the roja, while the red sauce is delightfully flavorful - it's as if Rao's had a baby with a puree'd roasted red bell pepper. We ordered the burrito and the enchiladas plates. The burrito serving was massive and generous, being garnished with a bed of lettuce on top. Meanwhile, everything about the enchiladas plate was spectacular - from the black beans, rice, to the enchiladas themselves. The same verde sauce for the nachos now appeared to dress and gracefully bathe the pair of enchiladas, enriching it with tantalizing flavor. This spice paired perfectly with the chicken, as hints of lime and cilantro accentuated the entire profile of the meal. While the saucy beans mixed with the soft texture of the rice grains to create a satiating meal. We also ordered a side of grilled jalapenos which were made to perfection - holding the perfect amount of char, whilst retaining the satisfying crunch. If Taqueria Maria's was a bit closer, I reckon that my family and I would frequent this eatery more often. I would definitely recommend to anyone seeking a good Mexican meal, whether that be for lunch or dinner. read more

Something has happened here. What was once great food is now inedible. I ordered chicken tacos and al pastor beef. Both chicken and beef were so dry and flavorless. The corn tortillas were dry and overcooked. The chips were not fresh and the red salsa was watery tomato paste. This used to be great food. Won't be returning. read more

Most authentic Mexican food I've had with my friends! I ordered the mole oaxaqueño. The sauce was rich and flavorful and the chicken was tender. One of my friends dislikes cilantro and the staff was kind enough to separate it from the guacamole and serve it on the side. There is also a little cat named Midnight that comes up to greet every customer. He is taken care of by the restaurant. Deciding to dine indoors we entered the very familiar dining room with a fresh coat of paint and the bustling bar jammed with take out orders. Menu has doubled in size but the tried and true has survived.... so the Original Mole Oaxaqueño {savory black beans, seasoned rice and 2 large ,moist chicken breasts smothered with Maria's deep, smoky,rich and slightly sweet mole that she once told us takes 2 days to make}.The wife was very happy as this mole would make even a day old Bubbakoo's burrito edible and that friends!.... is saying a lot. Next was my personal favorite, the El Mixteco Burrito{12 inch tortilla overstuffed with my choice of smoky, spicy Chorizo,creamy beans, rice ,salsa and bathed in Maria's spicy Tomatillo based green sauce, cheese and crunchy slivered white onions} Damn this was good! A hidden gem in the middle of nowhere. Who would've thought that... in our track back from Pennsylvania suburb we'd find such authentic Mexican restaurant?? Seriously it was probably the BEST Mexican food we've had in Jersey! I didn't like mole in Mexico City's top rated restaurant, ok? But the chicken mole Oaxaca here had the mama Maria's black magic sauce going on... at first taste my head spun because it was such complex and layered taste, complete with some fuegoooo at the backend! And chicken was moist as lady liberty on Independence Day! My wife ordered Maria's Fajita platter and.. OMG, just get it if you're in a group... or by yourself... or... just get it. It's loaded with chicken, beef, and shrimp with fire-kissed taste and you'll def. have leftover to enjoy the next day. I mean, the food was so good and so filling that we went back again recently and tried some fish which was decent, and I had my son order the same mole and he KILLED IT. I mean like licked the whole thing bare... and he's only 11. The outdoor seating is where it's at because inside is small and they had AC blasting a bit too cold for our taste. Very disappointed with not only the presentation of food but also the taste and menu descriptions. I got chicken tacos which say they come with pico, guac, avocado, tomato, etc. and only unchecked that I did not want onions and sour cream. It came with overcooked shredded chicken that was inedible and unable to be chewed, cheese, and a few tomatoes (pic below). I tried to eat one and unfortunately felt bad throwing the other out but the chicken was too tough. We also ordered burritos that were basically only filled with rice and guacamole that was cut up avocado, onions, and tomatoes. Be advised they do not have actual guacamole. I paid over $2 for the smallest container of "guac." The quesadilla was soggy and dripping in liquid. I don't know if it would be better eating that there as it might've sat in the container and gotten soggy, but the quesadilla was also thrown out.
