Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Chicken Satay Skewers
Soyeon S.

Tiny restaurant with couple outdoor seatings. The service was friendly! The portions were pretty big for the noodles-- we tried pad thai, pad see ew and chicken satay. We both enjoyed the satay and pad see ew but the pad thai was too sweet for our liking (it was sweeter than other many restaurants we've tried). Parking is also limited to street parking.

Looking for a lunch spot and remembered Bahn Thai was recommended to me a while ago, so we decided to check it out. Parking in the area can be a challenge but luckily we found a spot around the corner. The inside is just for ordering with a few tables outside under some umbrellas. As soon as we entered we were politly welcomed and attended right away. I got the Pad Thai with chicken and my girlfriend got the firecracker chicken with brown right. Both were ordered "hot" on the spicy level but it wasn't as spicy as we thought. Anyways, the food was amazing! Everything was so flavorful, best Pad Thai I have ever had. I almost forgot we also got a Thai tea and sticky mango rice. Needless to say we will return soon!

Drunken Noodle

I've been coming here for several years, and as a vegetarian, the yellow curry with soft tofu is always my go-to. I've also tried the drunken noodles, which are really good as well. The taste and quality have been consistently great over the years. It's a very small spot with no indoor seating, just a few outdoor tables that tend to fill up quickly during peak hours, so ordering to-go is probably the easiest option when it's busy. That said, it would be nice if they offered dine-in plates and cutlery for customers eating there.

Came back after a couple years and it seemed the food lost its sparkle. The curry was very milky and didn't have a lot of taste. Not a lot of veggies in the yellow curry. I also felt the rice tasted stale. The chicken satay was good, but the cost has gone up and quality maybe started to go down. Service was friendly.

Yes yes and more yes! I enjoyed the entire experience at Bahn Thai. The patio seating is pretty cool. Each area gives you a different experience. I enjoyed ordering at the table and being served with to go bags/containers. We had the drunken noodles with shrimp, Thai fried rice with eggplant, fried tofu, and the papaya salad! My favorite thing of all was the Thai iced tea! Woooooooah was it delicious!

One of the best Thai food spots in the University Heights area!! The thai iced tea will have you levitating. Cues Dua Lipa ‼ The food was so flavorful and filling. Big portions here so keep that in mind if you don't like leftovers. We are foodies that don't throw away food. Give it to your mother or brother or sister or friend. You feel me. My hubby enjoyed the Pad Thai and Sweet Chili Wings. The ingredients, spices, and veggies took the Pad Thai to the next level. I ordered the Pad See Ew and tried a Sweet Chili Wing. Perfection. I ordered the medium spicy level and that was more than enough. There are spicier levels so do you! The only reason why I did not rate five stars was that it took almost an hour for our food to be ready. Very busy for a Monday night! Regardless I highly recommend!!

Ordered take out and so glad we did this food was delicious! The tofu was crispy and came with plenty of dipping sauce. The chicken wings were saucy and cooked perfectly. The crab rangoon was so plump and full of a delicious cream cheese mixture, my favorite item! The spring rolls were a perfect mixture, not too thick, lots of dipping sauce. The drunken noodles were so good and filling. Food was delivered on time and tasted phenomenal. Would order again.

Bahn Thai Yelp search results showed Bahn Thai as the most reviewed thai restaurant in San Diego, so I had to find out... From their Yelp page, I already knew what to kind of expect: No indoor seating, No ceramic plates, No Silverware...all of which are almost dead breakers for Me so I ordered everything willing to try dining in the outdoor patio. While waiting, the flies outside was too disturbing and turned me off, so I immediately instructed the staffer to change my order TOGO, my potential dining vibe and ambiance were affected :( Service from the cashier and attitude from the cooking staff was cordial, helpful and nice. They understood my preference to eat with silverware, proper plates and no flies bothering me. They packaged the food order meticulously. I am aware their Hillcrest location which will have full service with all the dining accoutrements I prefer will open early 2026. When I got home, I plated every dish and enjoyed it All. The pad thai was delish. The curry had perfect viscosity: not too heavy thick and not too watery runny. The veggie egg rolls were scrumptious. I agree with many Yelpers, the food here at Bahn Thai is among the best and I look forward to visiting and dining when the Hillcrest location opens. Recommend.

New favorite Thai takeout in San Diego! Decided to change things up and try Bahn Thai for takeout and I'm so glad I did! First, the Thai fried rice has a depth of umami flavor I wasn't expecting from a fried rice, truly delicious. The Bangkok stir fry was perfectly balanced with a slightly sweet, spicy sauce, fresh veggies and chicken. The place looked very small inside, definitely more of a takeout vibe, but the food was ready when they told us it would be and came hot and fresh

This place was so good that my bf & I had to come back! And we love a spot that has vegetarian options with fake (mock) chicken/duck and tofu, veggies. First time I got the yellow curry at a level 5 (out of 5) spice with mock duck. And it was phenomenal! Very flavorful stuff!! For people who like spice but don't have a high tolerance, please do a 3. Everyone else, 1-2. Also got drunken noodles. Also bomb! The next time I tried the pineapple fried rice with mock duck and pro tip! Get the side of curry sauce (any flavor; I did yellow) and pour it over. It's so bomb! If I had to do it again, I would ask to add potatoes and bell peppers to the fried rice and then get two sides of curry sauce. BF had the firecracker chicken and it's good but we both agree that the curries here are the way to go with any protein preference. Ended with mango sticky rice that I wish did have more cream over it but that's just cuz I'm a saucy gal. Still delicious and very filling. Good portion size. This isn't a formal restaurant. More of a grab-n-go spot. There is very limited seating outside if you are trying to dine right outside (5 tables) and no indoor seating. It's fairy quick to get your food. You walk in, order, and wait for them to call your name.

The Pad Thai is the perfect mix of sweet and spice!! It was freshly made and the Pad See Ew was full of chicken and a the perfect mix of noodles and veggies. I got the hot spice level and when I tell you it was making me sweat! But I love spice so would definitely recommend if you can handle the kick. Had to finish off with the mango sticky rice that is well portioned. The mango was so sweet and tender and the rice the perfect texture. I love the service and how nice the workers are. It can get packed but they work fast! Will be going back :)

Is there any way to get delivery?

It seems they aren't doing delivery apps anymore. Anyone else have this experience?

Is there any Parking close, don't mind walking but is there much parking in the neighborhood?

It's mainly metered street parking .

I just asked and they said the curries are gluten-free and soy-free

How do I get Bahn Thai delivered? Are they on any apps?

We ordered online through postmates and they delivered it to us.

I don't usually leave reviews, but I wanted to share my experience dining here with my family…read more The evening started off great. The staff was friendly when we arrived, we were seated quickly, received our drinks promptly, and our food came out fast. The music was enjoyable, the ambiance was nice, and the restaurant had a modern, welcoming feel. Most importantly, the food was excellent. Everything we ordered was delicious, and my kids couldn't stop talking about the crispy pork belly. Honestly, the food itself was 5-star quality. The issue was what happened as the restaurant approached closing time. About 10-15 minutes after we started eating, a staff member brought our check and asked us to pay even though we were still waiting on two mango sticky rice desserts that had not yet been served. I politely explained that we hadn't received all of our food yet, so it didn't make sense to close out the bill. The desserts were brought out shortly afterward. A different employee then returned and again asked us to close out the check, assuring us that we could continue eating while they finished closing. Although I was hesitant, I paid and explained that I would leave a cash tip after we finished since we were still dining. Unfortunately, from that point on, the service noticeably changed. No one checked on our table, our water glasses were never refilled, and the staff seemed focused on cleaning around us. The booth behind us was being cleaned very loudly while we were still trying to enjoy our meal. It made us feel rushed and unwelcome, and honestly took away from an otherwise great dinner. When I asked for containers for our leftovers, the interaction felt cold and standoffish compared to the friendly service we received earlier in the evening. My suggestion would be that if the restaurant is close to closing and doesn't want guests dining in, they should clearly communicate that and switch to takeout only. The food was genuinely delicious, and I would come back again--but not near closing time. Great food, disappointing end to the evening.

We were lucky and were able to grab the spot right out front. For drinks we each ordered a cocktail. We ordered 4 dishes to share, the wasabi scallop ceviche, crispy baby crab, braised beef panang, and crab fried rice. The ceviche was definitely one of my favorites. Super flavorful, fresh, with the perfect amount of wasabi. The crispy baby crab was savory and easy to eat, especially since you're eating the whole crab, shell and all. The curry in the braised beef panang was so addicting, I couldn't stop eating it. The crab fried rice was tasty and filling. For dessert we got the mango sticky rice. The mangoes were fresh and sweet. Overall pretty standard but still yummy. Service was friendly, helpful and attentive. All the food came out in the timely manner. The vibe of the restaurant is casual but can be a little dressy for a nice date. Overall I definitely recommend a try here. When we ordered, our server took the time to explain their spice scale (1-5), letting us know that a 1 is already about a medium spice level. The server also gave us a heads-up that it's very fish-forward in flavor, which we appreciated and happened to love. The absolute standout of the meal was the Nam Khao Tod. It was hands down the family favorite--crispy coconut rice with pork sausage, crunchy peanuts, fresh herbs, and so many incredible textures and flavors in every bite. We could have ordered a second plate! We also had the Drunken Noodles with chicken, which were slightly oily in the best possible way, making them extra rich and delicious. The fact that they were vegan-friendly immediately earned a spot on my radar. After a long work…read moreweek, I pictured myself enjoying a quiet, peaceful dinner where I could decompress and recharge. Instead, I accidentally walked into what felt like the culinary cousin of a nightclub. The music was pumping, the energy was high, and any thoughts of a tranquil retreat disappeared faster than my appetizer. Maybe it's a completely different vibe during the day, but at night, this place is definitely alive. That said, once I adjusted my expectations (and accepted that my meditation session would have to wait), I had a great time. The restaurant is located inside Sky Deck, an indoor food hall with multiple vendors. Finding it felt a bit like a scavenger hunt since the signage wasn't very obvious, but after asking around, I eventually made my way there. I started with the garlic green beans after seeing another reviewer rave about them, and wow- they were not exaggerating. The dish arrived with a tiny umbrella perched on top, which was both adorable and unexpectedly glamorous for a plate of green beans. This appetizer was small but mighty. Every bite was packed with flavor, and if I hadn't already ordered an entrée, I absolutely would have ordered a second round. For my main course, I chose the Pad See Ew with fried tofu at medium spice. Apparently, their definition of "medium" and my definition of "medium" are not close relatives. This dish came with a kick! Halfway through, I found myself wishing I had ordered something sweet to balance things out. Instead, I bravely faced the spice armed only with hot water and a slice of lime. Um, it was a battle. While the portion size wasn't quite as large as what I've seen at similar restaurants, it ended up being exactly the right amount for me that evening. I left satisfied without feeling overly full. The service was wonderful as well. The waitresses were kind, and the hostess checked in during my meal, which made the experience feel welcoming and attentive. Although I didn't get the quiet, zen-like end to my work week that I had envisioned, I ended up enjoying something different: a fun solo date surrounded by great food, upbeat music, and the infectious energy of the crowd. Sometimes the universe gives you a peaceful retreat, and sometimes it gives you spicy noodles and a soundtrack. This time, I got the latter- and I'm not mad about it.

The braised beef just melts in your mouth! Their Thai Iced Tea was not too sweet and the mango sticky rice was utter perfection! The ambiance was amazing as their decor was not only simply exquisite, but so eye catching and interesting too, and the staff--they were so kind and attentive.
