    toddler's first haircut
    Joshua S.

It's been a challenge to get my toddler's first haircut. There has been many tears, and "No's", and running out of the salon. However, after one failure I took my daughter around the South Shore boutiques and randomly found Emma styling a customer through the outside window. My kiddo was amazed, watched intensely, and eventually was able to say, "Hi". A week or so later my child awoke from a nap and asked for a hair cut. She said she wanted "scissor" motions on her hair and was ready. I called Emma and she was available! We drove over and my toddler shyly walked in and Emma was just so sweet the whole time. While I don't have much hair myself, I could tell Emma was in her zone and working as an artist during the appointment. My kiddo did so well during this ~40 minute appointment and had so much fun and was smiling all day showing off her hair to our neighbors. Emma is definitely experienced with helping young kids feel safe and maintaining their attention. Will definitely be back!

It was my first time getting a haircut with Emma. She was very professional and friendly. Thank you I'll be back.

He reached out for a conversation before I came in and I knew I was in good hands. And then I was BLOWN AWAY by what he was able to achieve!! I had expected it would take a few visits to get there. Justin knows hair!! There is a science and an art to color, especially for those of us wanting dimensional color. Justin has both expertise and artistry!! I'm just delighted. I want to also mention that the salon itself is lovely. Spacious and airy, with a sweet back patio. I loved the art, too. The whole experience was uplifting! Justin is easy to talk to, the vibes are chill. I'm including before and after photos in hopes that my review might help someone else in a similarly desperate situation. You can trust Justin at Salon 1500!! He's awesome!!

Hailey took the time to understand what I was looking for and explained the process in the way that I understood. She made recommendations for color and services to help my damaged hair in a way that was clear she was doing what was best for me and my hair and not upselling at all. She even took the time to redo the color on my roots when it didn't come out quite right the first time (due to my hair's porosity not her mistake). I am so happy with how it turned out! Pics are before (poor highlights and cut and damage) and after (root cover up, red highlights and toner, subtle layers)

SHORT STORY: TINA chemically burned my hair at the root and…read moreleft me signifiant hair loss and painful injuries . Do not be mislead by the 5 star reviews. LONG STORY: My stylist in San Franciso retired and I made an appointment with TINA because she presented herself as an expert in hair straightening services. TINA confidently assured me of her many years of experience and familiarity with Keratin Straightening, Brazilian Blowout and Japanese Thermal Reconditioning. The appointment was a disaster. Not only did TINA appear unfamiliar with Japanese Thermal Reconditioning procedures, but she simultaneously worked on another client while treating my hair - this is something I have never experienced in 30 plus years of getting my hair chemically straightened. TINA sat me on her chair and went straight to applying the solution. She didn't bother assessing the quality of my hair or even washing it. Looking back, the instant she started working on me, I felt I was in trouble. Unfortunately I simply didn't want to believe that someone with 20 years of experience did not know what they were doing and I was being lied to. I finally spoke up while she was focused on the other client, as I had to alert her that my scalp was burning. By that point, significant damage had occurred. I now have blisters on my scalp, with patches of hair crisped and dead at the roots; my hair is so severely burned it's stuck to my scalp. What's left of my hair feels like Velcron - frizzy, dry and immovable. Since the treatment, I've been losing hair at an alarming rate -- I find burned strands broken hair and tufts of cuticled hair everywhere I turn. This experience has left me with visible bald patches and ongoing hair loss that constantly reminds me of the damage TINA had done. I had invested many years and thousands of dollars into maintaining my hair, I beat myself up every day for trusting TINA. This single appointment has undone decades of effort. If my hair cuticle is not damaged permanent, it will still take years for my hair to recover. The physical, financial, and emotional toll has been devastating. Once my scalp heals, I will need to be fitted for a wig, yet another expense incurred due to TINA's lies and incompetence. I asked for a one inch trim - she cut off at least 5 inches. In hindsight she chopped off my hair because she had burned it. As I walked back to my car I finally had a chance to touch my hair and felt the severity of the damage. I immediately returned and showed TINA the damage she had caused. She told me to come back for a conditioning treatment. I had to leave for another appointment, and I was in too much shock to even argue with her. I came back in a week later and TINA told me she wanted to do a Keratin Treatment on it!!!! I told her she wasn't getting anywhere near my hair again and asked for my money back. She refused; TINA attempted to place the blame on me, claiming the treatment failed because my hair was "too dry". She then had the audacity to tell me it's my fault because I told her I've had the service done before. Indeed I've had Japanese Thermal Reconditioning done countless times with excellent results by real experts who knew what they were doing. I couldn't believe TINA was not taking any responsibility. My only recourse was ask another stylist working at the salon to look at my scalp an touch my hair. At that point she got scared, broke out in hives and gave me a refund. Looks to me like she's willing to say and do anything to pay for the new house she's building down the street. This experience has been deeply distressing, and I hope it serves as a warning to others seeking any kind of service from TINA.

No biggie b/c the place seems clean all around and I was in no rush. When it's my turn, I requested the "textured, two-block with a close fade". Lilly proceeded to pin my hair up, worked the fade down to a 1.5" guard, and then shampooed/conditioned my hair. She seemed very comfortable to talk to during my appointment. However, all the positive energy stopped flowing when I returned back to her chair. She asked me if I wanted a side-part, which was the first red flag b/c a two-block is usually a mid-part. As for texturing, there's barely any scissor work involved; all she did was used the thinning scissor (the one with teeth) in a few places and that's it. Her primary tool was the electric razor which seemed very basic and left me wondering if she'd ever worked on men's hairstyles before. Out the door, I paid $40 for a haircut that my barber could've done a better job at.
