I chose to get Sugared since I love how gentle it is on the skin and how relatively painless it is. Bay True Beauty was just one of the few Sugaring trained therapists I've found in the area. The service was great! The esthetician, Angelica was thorough, fast and really friendly. I love her spa - it is always neat, clean and really cute. I just had my 2nd appointment and I am so pleased with the results. Definitely my new goto for any hair removal services. I've checked out their skin care service menu and it looks pretty enticing as well...might have to check them out for skin care as well! Hands down best facials! I've had acne since I was in my twenties and it's always been hard to manage. Since I've been going to Angelica I've had no breakouts! So this company is in the back of Spa Les Amis (which is perfect because my hair stylist is here). I worked with Angelica, but there are 2 other estheticians. I booked about a week in advance for underarms, lower half of legs, and a brazilian. I had a previous bad experience with waxing (so bad that I didn't let her finish and had the worst pattern ever). Angelica's response to my terror was amazing! She was very patient and kind, and helped me stay distracted from what was happening. She walked me through the process, reminded me to breathe, and explained why she was using different techniques on different areas. I got to try 2 different types of sugaring and hard wax. excellent service. I forgot your name who did my waxing..sorry! but she was so informative and helpful and really attentive to my needs. o went in for underarm waxing and I'm a huge baby for pain. I wanted to try sugaring since I heard it hurt less than regular waxing. so she explained how sugaring works by not sticking to skin and going into hair follicle. and suggested we try sugaring on one side and a hybrid wax on the other to compare. my right underarm got sugar wax and it was definitely a longer process having to do it in about 3 sections. the middle part if my underarm did hurt but not as bad as I remember regular waxing. and I feel it did remove the hair more thoroughly. the left underarm got a hybrid wax of hers which was part soft, part hard, and partm something else wax. it was basically painless yay!! however it did irritate the skin more than the sugaring side. this the sugar side looked a lot better afterwards as there was no inflammation. then I got my eyebrows and lip waxed. I love how she tailored the wax to the sensitivity of the area being waxed. my eyebrows look amazing!! I am very particular about them and drive all th3 way to San Jose when I have time for my old eyebrow girl but now I have a new girl and she's really good. kept my shape clean and defined. now I need to go back for Brazilian only downside was it did take her a while to communicate back to me. texting was faster. she did apologize multiple times and explained she was working alone that week and balancing work and family life which is understandable. did not loose points because service was that good. ooo and plus side was she did use when I asked numbing spray not sure how much it helped but I like to think it did. read more

I went to Angelica for microblading. I knew exactly what I wanted and Angelica was very patient with me as I showed her the hundreds of pictures I had as examples. She did not try to pressure me to do anything outside of what I wanted, which is what many artists have tried to do with me. I don't wear makeup and wanted a very natural look. Lica is the sweetest person I know. Having your vajajay looked at and touched by a stranger is a tad weird, Angelica who is totally relaxed and personable is WONDERFUL! Of course, it's gonna hurt like a mother f'er whoever you go to, but I was concentrating more on the cleaner side of things and Angelica was fast and made it strangely bearable. She used a glove on the hand that touched the skin. A different tongue depressor every time she dipped into the wax. I actually found Angelica through a promotion from Lifebooker and didn't expect much since I haven't had the best experiences with waxes via sites like Lifebooker or LivingSocial, etc. Anyway, I fell in love with Angelica! - The location is very convenient and is located in a shopping center with plenty of parking. - Her place is clean, clean, clean. - No double dipping - yay! I was amazed at the number of salons that double dip! Tsk tsk... - She uses hard wax, which I prefer and find to be less painful. - She provides a local anesthetic if you'd like to use it. - Overall, a very pleasing wax experience (as much as Brazilian waxes can be). Angelica is very sweet and professional and I loved my experience here. PS - I loved it so much that I got myself a gift certificate for another Brazilian wax and then was so embarrassed to realize that I forgot my credit card. Decided one week it was time to get waxed and I made an appointment online. It was super easy and I didn't have to make the appointment way ahead of time. There's ample parking but I would avoid parking nearing the grocery store. Keep going down a touch further and there's like a hidden lot towards the back. It's smaller but very quiet. I moved my car there after someone decided to wack my door with theirs.... I saw Angelica and she was so nice and personable! It's a cozy place and feels super welcoming. She was quick and I loved the results. I decided to try sugaring today, too, and I really think I'm going to stick with that! to echo the sentiments of all the other reviewers, angelica is the real deal. 5 stars 5 stars 5 stars! i've been to two other places for waxing in the san mateo area and, while they were cheaper, i decided i'm sticking with angelica at bay true beauty! reasons being: - angelica is friendly without being overly friendly--she keeps comfortable conversation going during the appointment if you're up to it. - her studio has been very clean and organized every time i've be there. although it's small, it has a cozy and comfortable feel, unlike another place i went to that felt like a doctor's office. - she uses high quality wax and covers your clothes with a cloth in case it gets anywhere, so i've never had an issue of wax getting places it wasn't meant to be. oh and she doesn't double dip! i repeat, she does not double dip! yay. a couple tips: - enter through the door in the back of les amis. if you're looking at the main door to the salon, walk around the right side of the building and there's a door back there with a sheer curtain in the window. the first time i came here i walked through the salon and felt kinda awk haha - she accepts card for both the service and tip, which is convenient for the customer. - since this is an establishment run entirely by one person, bear in mind that scheduling may not always be on the dot. i made the mistake of booking an appointment right before a class and ended up being late because the client before me ran late. her online booking site allows you to choose from multiple time windows, so utilize that and give yourself a little bit of wiggle room just in case. look no further for your go-to waxing specialist! bay true beauty is the way to go :) read more

Saw Caprice for a facial. ....ahhh. I felt so relaxed I wanted to ask if I could just take a nap when she was does. Caprice explained all the products she was using and checked in with me to make sure everything was ok. She asked several questions before we started to get to know me and my skin. The table itself was super comfy, almost like a cacoon. My face feels so great. The spa itself is super cute, with these great glittery lights and decor. She was amazingly sweet, she called me up before my appointment to give me exact directions. She gave me a numbing spray and that actually worked. She also used oil so my skin wont come off. She is also friendly and easy to talk to. This review is way overdo as I have been seeing Angelica for years now. I started seeing her when she worked in San Francisco and now see her at her adorable San Mateo location. In the last year I have changed to Sugaring instead of waxing and couldn't be happier with difference it has made in my hair growth and skin. Angelica is the only person I could find who does Sugaring in the peninsula. She makes me feel comfortable, cracks me up and is one of the sweetest people I know. The first time we changed from hard wax to sugar for my Brazilian I noticed a significant reduction in my hair and it grew back much softer. The sugar does not irritate the skin and doesn't even feel like it was "waxed" at all after. I started going to Angelica when I was referred to her from my hairstylist. It was a half hour drive when she was in her salon in SF, but now that she is in San Mateo it is only 10 min.
