It's all relative! Relative to the people. Relative to the location. Wanted to be impressed because the service was spot on and ambiance was so friendly but the food quality was just meh. I had the AYCE fried fish with corn, mashed potatoes, and sautéed veggies. Hubby had their go to burger that everyone raves about. I asked for the fish to be extra crispy and it definitely was. Had a great clean flavor and I used lots and lots of lemons on mine because that's just the way I roll. The corn and the mashed potatoes were not even warm and it tasted like out of the can or package. I think the potatoes were probably fresh, but maybe fresh two days ago. The veggies were up there with the fish! Definitely the two highlights to my meal. They had a great flavor and seasoning with lots of butter. As you can tell by the pictures, hubby's burger did not have a good bread to meat ratio. The bread was very thick and dense. My professional baking daughter said that they either let it rise too long or not long enough. The burger was well over cooked , but was a fresh made patty that just needed salt and pepper. We were on our way to Galveston and getting ready to stop at the Ennis Buc-ees when we decided we wanted some lunch. A quick look at Yelp and Bailey's popped up as close by and a good rating. Plus, it wasn't some chain joint. So, we headed on over... Bailey's is the kind of place you find in a small, out of the way town. It's probably been there quite a while, which tells me that more than likely, the food will be good. And it was. It's definitely a rustic spot. Small and cozy...you aren't going here for the decor. Think 1970s small Texas diner. But the food...delish. From patty melt, burgers, club sandwich, to an enchilada plate, everyone in our party was impressed. And, the service was excellent. It appeared that it was only the server and the cook in the back who were making it all happen. Everything was handled quickly and efficiently. I came into town to visit with my son and daughter in law and I searched for dog friendly restaurants. The only one in Ennis was this Cafe. I am very familiar with the area but have never heard of Bailey's Cafe. We sat on the patio and were quickly greeted by the waitress. We ordered a few appetizers, and found out they were HAND BATTERING them in the kitchen as they are ordered! At this point I was sold! All the food was fantastic!! The pecan fried chicken was delicious! Our dinner was so good that we drove back in the morning for breakfast after an overnight stay in Waxahachie. I ordered the migas and that was a great meal also. I'll have to make special trips from Fort Worth just to eat here! The wait staff was wonderful as well. A few friends of ours were talking about Bailey's Cafe so we decided to try them out one Saturday morning. It was not too busy yet so that was a plus. Not a lot of parking but enough for when we were there. There is outdoor seating under an awning. small dogs allowed on the patio. I order the omelet and the hubs ordered the pork chops,only because they were out of biscuits. I gave 4 stars because i feel like biscuits is a wierd thing to be out of especially since biscuits are easy to make, i figure those should never be out. The waitress was great and attentive. The owner was also there and checked on us, because i looked really cold and had a baby with us. He moved the air vent so that it wasn't blowing right on us. I thought that was cool of him. We stopped in here yesterday for lunch and it was amazing! The waitress was working the whole place by herself and took outstanding care of everyone! My husband and I had the chicken fried steak, which was delicious! My mom tried the chicken fried chicken, which she also loved and my dad had the all you could eat catfish and vegetables. I'm not usually a fan of vegetables out because they're just not seasoned well but these were all delicious. He tried the squash, fried okra, pinto beans, and turnip greens all were delicious! While on a Bluebonnet trip we stopped here around 2pm 4-21-25 & so glad we did. 3 of us ordered the Pecan Fried Chicken & it was delicious, the other 2 ordered Chicken Tenders & the special which was Smothered Chicken. All were yummy. The chicken was so tender you didn't need a knife. We also ordered Coconut pie & German Chocolate pie for desserts which I recommend. The staff was wonderful & very sweet, friendly & attentive. I highly recommend this place if you are visiting Ennis. Be sure to check their hours because they do close early afternoon. While road tripping to North Texas and based on the number of Yelp stars we decided to stop for a late lunch at Bailey's Cafe. We are glad we did. Greeted by a friendly server who immediately served us large glasses of tea. I ordered the Tuna Sandwich on toast with lettuce & onions (instead of tomatoes). I had my choice of fries or onion rings and went with the onion rings. The tuna salad was fresh with just enough mayo and the onion rings were homemade; with crunchy well seasoned coating and not oily at all. Hubby ordered the Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich also with onion rings. Wowzer!! Large bun size CFS cooked just right. The sandwich comes with tomatoes, pickles & lettuce but he requested mustard instead of mayo. He told me twice how good the sandwich was. Before our order came out we were given a small bowl of Black Bean soup. Pretty dang yummy. The dining room is quaint and clean. The unisex restroom was a bit small but also clean. This place has been said that its really good. So I was surprised to see such a limited menu. Even with the small items on the menu, I still ordered. I got The Club sandwich with fries. The sandwich is huge. You could definitely share it with another person and the fries are hot. The only thing I didn't like was the processed cheese in the sandwich. It overwhelmed the flavors and frankly it was too much cheese. I would order it again if I could take the cheese out, so for that I give it 4 stars. The sweet tea is super sweet. Its what I call diabetes tea. Now I know we are in the south and sweet tea is well, sweet tea. But this could send anyone into a diabetic shock its that sweet! My wife and I were in Ennis and stopped into Bailey's for a late lunch. We each had the Chicken Fried Chicken. Our vegetable selection included mashed potatoes, corn, turnip greens and fried okra. Everything was great. The chicken was a good sized portion and very tender. The cream gravy was fine, made better with a little salt and pepper. The mashed potatoes seemed to be real, but were good either way. So were the rest of the vegetables. The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is that the coconut pie was awful. Too bad.
