I have lived in multiple locations, ie., New York City, Washington DC, Miami and travel's to California, New Orleans, LA, etc. First, it looks like a store from the outside and is....with the most unusual items...and so much fun to investigate! The menu has an awesome selection including healthy foods and all that I ate had the best favors ever! The food was served quickly by very pleasant servers. The entrance is a bit confusing because the restaurant is a part of a lovely but a bit pricey retail store. Very cute and I did buy a plastic bangle for $4. Anyways let's get to restaurant talk. After about a 10 minute wait we were taken upstairs to a loft area that overlooked the main dining room. It was a really fun view. We ordered the ABC dip and it was huge. Basically a delicious pimento cheese dip served with both toast and chips and a side of spicy jam. Only 7.50! We had a cooler so we took it to go. Then as you closely review the menu, you can order a half a sandwich and a half a salad for a very reasonable price. I believe it was like 13.50 I had their specialty the chicken apricot salad and it was good. I would've preferred it on the baguette instead of a wheat bread like my husband got on his turkey sandwich. I had the Greek salad which was delicious and he had the house salad which was also delicious, it was so much food! It's BYOB and I happen to have a cooler because we're staying the weekend and brought my wine in with me and I did feel a bit awkward but oh well they brought me a wine glass and there's a three dollar cork fee, but it was a screw top and they didn't charge me. August 12, 2026 i had lunch around 12 noon consisting of an Apricot chicken salad sandwich which came with chips and water to drink. By evening I was very sick, the kind of sick one gets from eating bad/spoiled food. I have eaten this sandwich several times in the past couple of years but this time it made me very sick. Rebecca was an awesome server, taking care of us and chatting with Texas hospitality! We had the special, a generous piece of Quiche with a salad. The food is delicious with very good portions. The service was very small town Southern friendly, and the large dining room has tall ceilings and feels quaint. The antique booths are fun to parooze after lunch. Chicken salad was delicious, and I loved the Orange spice tea. One way to improve- I'm not a fan of when "fruit" is 95% grapes, with a strawberry cut in half. I prefer a side fruit to be more Blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, clementines, kiwi, or mango... but that is my personal preference. I was in town visiting and dropped in with my family to have lunch. It's a cute boutique and antique store attached to a cafe. They are pretty popular as every table was filled and there was a small wait for six people (10 min). The waitresses were kind and pleasant throughout the service. The bathroom was cleaned and all supplies were available. I had the smoked turkey sandwich with orange spice ice tea. Super delicious! I actually found the ingredients so I'll be making it at home soon. Everyone at my table loved their meals too. Their blackberry bread pudding is so yummy! They added ice cream and whipped cream which was over kill. I scrapped it off and took at bite of a small portion. It's perfect by itself in my opinion. So my sister and I had raspberry lemonades and they were a little watery. my husband and I shared a chicken type salad sandwich and it was OK. I think the best part were the chips. I ordered fruit and it was seven dollars and you didn't get much. There were lots of leftovers and some of us had dessert. I had like a chocolate torte mousse. My sister ate all hers. We will definitely be back! Waxahachie has more than 1 great local restaurant but The Dove's Nest may be a new fave! (A 20 minute wait for 2 people at 11:25am is a good sign that it's popular!) It's not the cheapest restaurant but $20ish to be totally stuffed with amazing food is not a bad deal at all! Mom and I usually order our own and split everything so she got the Dove's Nest Salad Medley ($13.95) with Apricot Chicken Salad and Baby Spinach Salad which was very large and super fresh! The chicken salad has sherried apricots with fresh rosemary honey Dijon mayo which sounds like a strange combo but is probably the best I've ever had! The Baby Spinach Salad has apple wood bacon, golden raisins & apples with orange curry dressing... again sounds suspicious but amazing! I ordered the Ham & Jam Sandwich (slices of grilled pit ham & Brie with arugula, mayo and private label peach habanero jam on a toasted ciabatta $12.75) on the recommendation of our very nice, friendly and attentive waitress (Rebekah I think)! Again, didn't sound super great but ya super great! I got the 1/2 sandwich with a cup of soup as the soup of the day was Green Chile Chicken which can be a bit spicy but this was just about perfect! In case that wasn't enough food (which it was) we each got an oversized slice of Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie (comes with a double scoop of ice cream for $7.50) which was GREAT! Real metal utensils and cloth napkins in a cool old building are just added bonuses! A few things to be aware of... 1 there's an upcharge for not paying cash... 2 the entrance to the restaurant is not the door on the side street but through the gift shop door on the corner (which is by design because) 3 you have to go through a great gift shop where you (and especially any female companions) will almost certainly find something to buy. Apparently the Dallas Morning News gave them 3.5 stars (which I think is short by about 1.5) and Texas Monthly magazine voted them one of the top 10 best small town restaurants in Texas! Every time we're in Waxahachie Texas, we always try to come to the Doves Nest in the Town Square. It has an amazing store with very cool and eclectic items with a restaurant on the side. Their food is fresh and quite good, no matter what you choose. It is a bit loud because it's an older building with poor acoustics, but the older building adds to the whole ambience of the restaurant. Hubby and I started with their orange spiced iced tea... do not miss this refreshing drink. I got the salad trio and Hubby the Ham and Jam plate. The food was plentiful and very fresh... not to mention yummy! We ended with bread pudding. Friendly service and reasonable prices. We arrived at 1:30 (they close at 2) but were welcomed with open arms & no hassle about coming so late. Each meal, if you get the full sandwich option, comes with a side of homemade kettle chips & fresh corn salsa = both of which were super yummy! This was my first time coming to this establishment. It's on the corner near the downtown historic buildings. They have a small parking lot across the street that you can use. However, if you're driving a big SUV like me then the parking spots themselves don't offer very much room in between the parking spots (can easily hit someone's car opening your door). Upon entering the building you first enter a small store of sorts (like a gift shop). The restaurant itself is tucked away near the back by the restrooms. There wasn't a wait time for us (party of 2). We came here on a Wednesday around 12:30PM (I imagine business is more busy on a weekend). We were seated immediately and greeted within seconds. The waitress (she never game me her name) was very nice and informed us of the daily soup and specials. My friend and I ordered a Cobb Salad and the Doves Nest Burger. The food came out in a timely fashion, and was hot (the burger). Looking at the pictures, you'll see that I had the fixings on the side (that's because I'm picky). The burger itself was really good. It was cooked at medium and was juicy. The salad was fresh, crisp, and refreshing. The kettle chips were okay, but nothing to really brag about. Overall, the service was good. The only reason I gave a 4 out of 5 stars was because mask were being enforced (i understand taking off the mask to eat). The staff was not wearing gloves or a mask either so that raised some concern for me. They do not offer a contactless way to pay either. Though, the bathrooms were clean and they did offer hand sanitizer. I hope this review will help the next person who wants to come here. It's a nice place, but I wish the staff was more COVID conscious and would take the time to at least wear gloves and a mask when serving food and drinks. read more
