Nice lunch spot in downtown Ennis. I went two days in a row while on a recent business trip. Menu reads as a "catch all" but highlights lean Mexican. The enchiladas verdes stand out. We have NOT had a bad meal here. Most recently we enjoyed dinner here and it again did not disappoint. The wait staff is always on top of keeping our drinks filled and getting anything we ask for. They also have a great breakfast menu and options. There is street parking and a small parking lot nearby, There is also a rooftop seating option/bar on the weekends. This would be the first time I've visited a restaurant in Ennis. It was my mother in laws birthday so we decided to stop by. We came on a Saturday around 1ish pm. Party of 7 (4 adults,3 kids). The wait wasn't too bad but I will say the hostess was trying her best to keep up with everyone. There was so much confusion on parties because the hostess would write one name and then two other people would come by and try to find tables for other people. Idk what was going on. Staff Friendliness was ok. I will admit the wait for a party of 7 wasn't too bad maybe 10 min. The issue we had after was our waitress. Idk if she was new or what. My husband and I ordered the pineapple cucumber margarita (which were ok, had like a weird after taste) and my mother in law (MIL) ordered some other margarita. She brought out only mine and my husband and forgot about my MIL drink all together. (Note it's her birthday ) so she was not happy at all. We all ordered our food. My husband and I ordered the fajitas for two. My kids had the kids enchiladas. She ordered the appetizers sampler I believe and my MIL husband ordered some tacos. Let's start with our food. The wait time wasn't too bad considering they were busy on a Saturday. The presentation was nice. The taste was ok. Our fajitas weren't too bad. The kids enchiladas were eaten up but my kids didn't like the rice or beans (which they love at most places). The tacos were ok. The sampler was big and she said she enjoyed most of it. Note, the waitress also has said she forgot her food but somehow it appeared? Idk maybe she forgot she had put it in. Idk. Again she wasn't very attentive at all to us. Overall the restaurant was clean and the environment looked nice. When it came time to pay she dropped the ticket off and forgot about us again. So we had to wait another 10 min for her to come back so we could pay and leave. Price wise it wasn't too bad, quality of food I'm still undecided but for now it'll be like a 3 out of 5 on it. Would I return I still haven't decided since the staff didn't seem too attentive or friendly so we will see. read more

Emily was our server and she was great; definitely aimed to please. We ordered the cowboy burger, chicken cheeseburger, and bloody Mary's. Front door check in to be seated. Side street parking was decent when we got there. There's also parking in the back. We came on Memorial Day Monday on the way off the freeway instead of Chilli's. They really feed you here. The bacon cheeseburger was absolutely on point -- juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. Although our service was great, the food was not so much. We ordered a 15 ounce ribeye steak and shrimp. The shrimp did not have a great taste and the ribeye steak was only about a quarter an inch thick and was not tasty or medium cooked, like we ordered. Wow. Reading the one star negative reviews makes me wonder if we ate at the same place. We had lunch here after a long morning of chasing bluebonnets throughout the countryside. WE LOVED IT! Our server,Kyli, was so sweet and attentive. We asked her for a suggestion from the menu and she suggested the Monterrey Chicken. It was so good and a huge portion. Seasoned and cooked to perfection, topped with bbq sauce, cheese, and gobs of bacon, it was a true treat. The complimentary chips, salsa, and bean dip hit the spot as well. I got the three tacos and the beef was representative to Taco Bell and the shells were definitely not made from scratch. I don't regularly rate restaurants but felt this one needed commenting on. This is my 2nd visit. The food and service were so great the first time; I had to return to see if it was a fluke. It was not a fluke. Both the food and service were just as good this time around. We visited at lunch on a Friday both times. The lunch menu is reasonably priced and you get a lot of food for the money. I can't recall the last time I have had fajitas this delicious at a restaurant. From scratch Daniel's Kitchen: my first visit and I got a combo of beef and shrimp fajitas. I am very picky when it comes to fajitas!! OMG!!! Those beef fajitas were TENDER, flavorful and the grilled shrimp was the bomb!! The pico de gallo was fresh. I did have to send back the refried beans because they were cold. However, it was fixed in a heartbeat. Those beans tasted homemade and the rice was not dry. I'll order these again. And our waitress Penny was attentive and took care of us. I'll definitely be back!! Small town folk who are not inviting to anyone who didn't go to the local high school. Showed up at to a full bar of patrons and were denied because we didn't know the bartenders name personally. The sign post clearly stated open until 11pm. If I was running this establishment, id question the work ethic and inclusiveness that my staff was showing to the general public. Food is really really good, the chicken is super flavorful and moist, was able to cut it with a fork. The only thing we were disappointed in was the salad, it was a bit pricey for the lack of ingredients. $8 for a side salad, which is high, and all it is is iceberg lettuce, small amount of cheese and tomatoes, croutons we're going to be an extra charge. This was our first time visiting this restaurant so it may have been an off night. There were three of us and we all had the catfish and shrimp. Onion rings, okra, cabbage, and blacked peas were the sides. Service was spotty. We waited a good 8 minutes after being seated before anyone acknowledged us. We ordered 3 waters with lemon. Surprise, they don't have lemons only limes but failed to mention that. We also ordered the queso at the same time. I got the impression I was not supposed to order from that person but we were traveling and didn't want to wait any longer than necessary. We received our drinks and queso. Our waitress did not show up for awhile so I asked another waitress for more chips. Agin I got the impression that I was not supposed to do that. The look she gave me said it all but she did it anyways. The food took about 25 minutes to come to the table. 4 strips of catfish and 4 large shrimp is generous. And filling. The sides were not so great. The onion rings were cold and had been sitting for a while. The blacked eye peas lacked flavor. The cabbage had a big hunk of the core in it and lacked flavor. The okra was decent. There is a fine line between checking on your table too much and not enough. We were in the not enough camp. And the place was a little busy but not overly so. Now, enough with the negatives. Some positives. Beautiful place with big, open windows. Seats are comfortable. Catfish and shrimp were tasty and generous. I would give it another try. read more

Have always been to From Scratch for breakfast service. It is very filling, tasty and plentiful. We have always been there with a group of 12 to 14. The service was steady and we only had to call waitress once for something missing. But it was taken care of and an enjoyable experience in all. read more

I don't usually make reviews but on Mothers day me and my family came out to have a good dinner for our mom and the service was terrible. My brother didn't get his food until over an hour later and then when he got it it was not what he ordered. Then when we spoke to the manager she said oh! well these things happen and we are busy giving every kind of excuse. Didn't offer to make it right in any way. I feel like it was discrimination but we paid the bill anyway. If you are looking for good food and excellent service this is not the place.
