Solid food at an excellent price. Went on a busy Sunday and the wait was short. They offer a full menu but they do have daily specials that can't be beat. I had the chicken fried steak and it was delicious. Nice experience

meh. Let me start with the very good - decor and atmosphere are outstanding. The waitress was great to explain everything and clearly enjoyed her job. The restaurant is fun. It has a western theme and scriptures around which I appreciated. I wanted to LOVE the food based on other reviews and the waitresses recommendation. We had the chicken fried steak - part was tender, part tough, gravy good. I had the hamburger steak and found it bland. My favorite part was the salad bar. Neat place to stop on a road trip and I'd love to visit Hillsboro sometime as the downtown area - where the restaurant is located - is super cute.

Western omlete, hashbrowns, and homemade salsa

As soon as we drove up the filled parking lot was evident that we picked the right place for an early lunch. We walked in to a bustling Cafe. There is no hostess or instructions as to service so we just stood there for a few minutes waiting for directions. Finally a person who was working the register told us to find a place to sit anywhere in the cafe but did indicate that there was a few tables upstairs. We went up, found a table and was immediately greeted with a friendly smile and menus. We ordered coffee and our breakfast foods and enjoyed the sights and sounds before our food arrived in a few minutes. Service was friendly, food was hot and delicious. Really enjoyed the crispy hashbrowns, hot and tasty western omlete with a side of homemade salsa that had just the right spice. We were all very pleased with the cafe and will definitely come back when we come through Hillsboro. Finally, it's a great value for a delicious meal and friendly service. The bill was just under $40, with tip, for 3 adults .

Awesome place that we found! Came in for breakfast; it was seat yourself and came right in. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. The food came out quick and hot and very good sized portions. The waitress was quick and attentive. It was a great place and cute. We saw there was an upstairs that had seating which was cute.

Driving from Waco to Dallas and just happened to run across this cafe . Thought we'd try it. Let's just say it was the right decision. Not a large location but well worth the wait. Specials for the day were chicken fried steak, full or half order, chicken, and dressing, roast beef, and hamburger steak. They all came with three sides and banana pudding. You could substitute two of the sides for a trip to the salad bar or one side if they made you a side salad. I chose the side salad and it was plenty, which allowed me to get two other sides. The sides for today were baked potato , mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, macaroni and cheese, yams, carrots, and pinto beans. Dinner rolls came with the meal. All of this for $12.99+ your drink. We ordered the chicken fried steak, full order and chicken and dressing. Our sides were green beans, corn and yams. Delicious! Seasoned well. They give you a discount with the cash price. Large portions, homestyle, cooking, friendly staff, and nice atmosphere. I don't see how any of the items on the list you could go wrong with. We were so hungry. I forgot to take pictures of anything except the menu. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend it.

Bacon omelette with mushrooms & B/G

I always like to try out little local spots whenever I can versus stopping at the typical highway spots on road trips.  Buc-ees has enough support - give the little guys some, ya know ;)  R&K was only 5 minutes off the highway and I was ready for some breakfast, so I decided to take a short detour. R&K has a rustic cowboy town kinda feel.  Seemed to be a popular local spot for the older crowd on a late Monday morning.  It was very laid back with the waitresses just acknowledging you at the door when you arrive to tell you hello and grab a seat anywhere you like.  Even with its dense wood, old timey feel, and metal decor, it was still clean and inviting.  But I did feel like I wanted to arrive horseback and tie up to a post outside.  The staff were hustling to not only wait on tables, but they were part of the food prep as well - chopping vegetables, kneading biscuit dough, and making iced tea.  They were efficient with orders and keeping water or coffee topped off. As for the food, I opted for a bacon, mushroom, and cheese omelet with hash browns and biscuits and gravy.  The food had a greasy spoon dinner vibe and for me the best part was the crispness of the hashbrowns and the B&G.  Not sure I'd get the omelet again - just didn't do it for me. The eggs weren't fluffy and they just felt flat (pun intended).  The biscuits were certainly made in house and the gravy was everything you expect white country gravy to be.  I can see why the older crowd and cowboys were into this place.  Certainly a rustic cowboy country food experience.

New server was getting trained. Arrived before dinner rush and I was one of about 7 customers. Ordered a traditional CFS. Plate was just right amout of meat and 3 sides at a fair price. Rustic decor. On the list to return during my travels to Fort Worth.

Veggie plate was bland, and not a good value at all (over priced). I left hungry and dissatisfied.

We came in about 5:45 on Tuesday before New Years, and the place was basically bare. I was concerned. Went immediately to use the restroom, which was nostalgically decorated and clean as a whistle. The waitress was at the table taking to my husband when I got done, and my tea was already there, waiting for me, when I arrived. Now...the food: I got the chicken fried steak and hubby got fried catfish. Both were so clean and fresh I thought they'd been air fried! By the time the food arrived, dinner time must've hit, because as I write this from my table, the place is absolutely packed full of patrons. I didn't take a photo of my dinner, because I was busy enjoying it. However, I was able to get a quick snapshot of the husband's fish before he downed the last few bites. Seriously, this was the best southern comfort meal we've had in quite some time. We'll DEFINITELY make this a stop when we are passing through Hillsboro in the future! Seriously. Try them. You can thank me later, and ya might even run into Bubba while you're here!

And, this may be one of the best fried chicken sandwich and onion rings that I've eaten. My husband 's burgers was juicy, and the jalapeño sourdough bun was legit.
