Untrustworthy. Decided to give them a try so I brought my vehicle in for diagnosis. Check engine light was on, brake light was on, and occasional noise coming from front axle. Upon picking up my vehicle, they did not check what codes were causing my "service engine" light, did not check my brakes or could tell me if they needed fluid, brake pads, rotors, etc. They disassembled my 4wd hub, and let me drive away with the cv axle completely loose and free hanging. I had to research YouTube videos and re install the internal portions of my 4wd hub at home. (Took me about 15 min) They charged me $225 in labor. My Mercedes SL550 broke down in Demming, NM and had to be towed in for repair. Normally repair work is / was only done by an authorized Mercedes Dealer, however I was assured by many friends that Baird's not only is 55 Tow Truck miles closer to home, They do excellent work. Long story short, they ordered the damaged idler pulley and serpentine belt and as soon as parts came in, had my car ready to go in two hours. Plus 2 stars for repairing the problem with my car. Minus 3 stars for not reinstalling all of the mounting brackets and associated securing hardware. I paid over seven hundred dollars for a repair and the mechanic chose to leave off around one hundred dollars in mounting brackets and hardware when reassembling the removed parts. Later I was informed that that parts were missing. When I stopped by Bairds their position was that they didn't remove the hardware and they refused to fix the problem! I had to spend more money to buy the missing parts and get them installed on my car. Save yourself time, aggravation, and money and get your car repaired at another shop!​ read more

Be aware, NOT HONEST! I was driving through Las Cruces and found out I have a power steering fluid leak. I looked on line and Baird's had good reviews. I called, and they said to bring it in. I thought it would be something minor, but to my surprise, they said I needed a new rack and pinion assembly. They quoted me a price of $1200. I decided not to do it, and I drove the car like this for over 2 months. Last week, I noticed that the leak got worse, so I took it to a local shop in the Cleveland, OH area. I told them that I thought I'd need a new steering rack, but they wanted to check for themselves. They called me back and said the repair will cost $99! There was just a leak from one of the lines, so the line needed replacing. read more

These people are great! I dropped my truck off for an oil change, tune up and diagnosis of check engine light/codes. They did the diagnosis and the needed work plus checked over the belts, brakes, tire pressure etc. They took me home when I dropped my truck off AND picked me up when it was finished. It is hard to find a great honest mechanic. I was traveling from Florida to Arizona and my car broke down for the second time in Las Cruces NM right at the corner of Triviz but when I met Greg I felt comfortable. They had a lot of cars to services but seeing I was out of town they worked me in. Unfortunately the parts werent available so I stayed the night in Las Cruces but he had an employee take me to my hotel after helping me find a good one. The next day they got the parts put it on but the car was still doing the same thing. So they took off the parts and we concluded it must be the engine. I called Mazda they couldn't see me for a week so Greg suggested I rent a car so I can take all my stuff and leave the car there for a while until I figure out what I want to do with it. I MEAN HOW AWESOME IT THAT!!!! Of course he charged me for labor but its a business I understand. I paid 150 instead of 600 which it would have been with the parts and labor so I still gained. I am 2 hours away and would prefer to drive all the way back there to NM and see him for car work in the future instead of trying to find another mechanic. Its hard to find a honest mechanic. I recommend Baird to anyone riding through to stop there and get your oil changed or work done and if you live in Las Cruces or close by this should be your new mechanic. period. read more

I was told a few months ago, after I moved and drove down from Washington to Las Cruces that I needed to get my battery changed. I found Bairds and headed in, expecting to take care of that. However, they pressed me for why I needed a battery change and insisted on checking it first. Turns out, battery was totally fine and it was a huge relief that they were completely honest about not needing a new one just yet. BLUF: I trust this shop with all of my vehicles. Fair, honest, upfront. Felt like I was back home dealing with my hometown mechanic shop. Great customer service and mechanics! I had just had received my 70 Oldsmobile 442 back from the engine manufacturer (Mondello Performance) for over heating issues. I took the car out for any easy drive from WSMR to LC. 2miles onto 70 the car vapor locked and died. I had the car towed to Baird's Automotive because they were the closest shop. It was a great find for me. The shop fixed the vapor lock issue. When I drove it home I found I was still having overheating issues. Called the shop and came back in. Total repair took about 2 weeks. The issues turned out to be a ballooned radiator and insufficient air movement. Which lead to overheating and a header gasket leak. Baird's worked with Mondello the entire time to ensure warranties on the engine were not violated and engine specs were maintained. Much of the delay time was parts shipping from Mondello to Baird's. Baird's called and informed me when they agreed and disagreed with Mondello, but maintained a professional environment regardless of agreeances. At best, it is a nuisance when the "Check Engine" light comes on, and you never know if it is something serious. Baird's Automotive is good at diagnosing problems, from a dirty sensor to a faulty vacuum tube. They are fair and never try to sell you something that you do not need. Highly recommended. read more

To overpriced they wanted $100 just for a Diagnostic check. Their rates are high for labor for this reason I don't recommend them.

Greg is a first-rate pro. I used Yelp to find Greg's services in April, as he changed my brake pads. As an Uber and Lyft driver, I have to undergo an annual inspection. I failed due to deficient front brakes. I notified Greg and without hesitation he owned up to the fact that work was done and there should not be a problem with the pads. Yesterday he told me that there was something wrong with the pads that he installed in April, and replaced the pads free of charge. I anticipated a bill for either his labor, his parts replacement, or both, but instead, I had no additional charges billed to me. He handed me my keys with a smile. As long as I live in Las Cruces, I will use no one else. Greg is an honorable man. When it comes to evaluating auto repair services, to me there is not a better trait. read more

Brought our car in because the cooling fan blades were broken off, forgot my phone in the car, one of the techs dropped us off at home, we did not hear from them for 3 days and they made no attempt to come by to advise us our car was ready, we got a ride from a neighbor finally when we picked up our car the bill was $700.00 when we got home husband checked out what was done, and the fan assembly was loose as they didn't tighten it down, after so many days and so much money, we just decided to never ever go back there again, poor work+poor communication, as they knew what was going on, and the tech who dropped us off lives just a few miles away, never ever again, will never recommend them to anyone. read more

I had a problem with my old truck (my only transportation), so I brought it to Baird's (they were the closest and had good reviews) and left it overnight for them to fix the next day. They called me and told me the problem (power steering pump), and I had them replace it. (The price was about average.) They fixed it right away. Almost exactly a month later, the steering quit again, and I left them the truck. Since the pump was still under warranty, they fixed it again, but for no charge. I had the truck by the end of the day. I have found Baird's service to be excellent; very professional, honest, fast, and dependable. Communication is very good. I don't normally have much work done, but when I do, they have a new client. read more

This place has good service- they may be honest but they are SLOPPY. You MUST know the specs of your car before you go there. Greg the manager was very friendly, and was cordial when I asked that my oil be changed again- when the mechanic put the wrong kind of oil in my car the first time. I even opened up the hood to show the mechanic and Greg that my car takes 10-30, not 5-30. Says so right on the engine cap. So they did- no extra charge. When I drove away, I checked my engine once I got home. They had slopped oil all over my hood latch, when then dripped onto my engine cover and my front bumper when I opened it. I then went back- they were very nice when they cleaned off the oil with gas at my request (which is what you're supposed to do- gas is a solvent). The thing that brought this whole ordeal down to one star was when I checked my invoice and noticed that they had checked my tire pressure. So doing my due diligence, I rechecked my tire pressure- thankfully the caps on the tire valve didn't fall off- they were only half way screwed back on when I checked them- sloppy work. The reason why I'm writing this review is that my tires were all at about 40 PSI. It says right on the label on my drivers side door that the front and rear tires need to be 30 PSI. Having them overinflated, especially in this hot New Mexico desert during the 3rd week of August is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I could have popped a tire at any time, and guess what Baird's is not going to pay for a new set of tires. Either the mechanic was sloppy, trying to destroy my car (and potentially my LIFE when I pop a tire and hit the car next to me), or doesn't understand what PSI is- we're not dealing with metric, hermano. Good service (the second and third time around) but SLOPPY and because they endangered my life, I will never give them my business again. read more

We took the car in without an appointment on a Monday morning, and they gave me a ride back to the hotel. Later in the afternoon they called, then came and got me for the return to the ahop.
