Noi Thai, which operates Baitong on Wheels, is one of the more popular Thai restaurants in town, so expectations are correspondingly high for their food truck. The menu is limited - not unusual for a food truck but I couldn't help comparing Baitong with that of its neighbor at River's Place, SOPA, which boasts quite a few more offerings (it's a bigger truck, granted). My expectations rise higher, thinking Baitong can concentrate on just a few dishes. - Quick if perfunctory service. I waited maybe five minutes for my food. - Prices are quite reasonable. - Crispy garlic chicken: tasty if a bit too sweet. Chicken was prepared perfectly. At other places the sweet sauce might devolve into a cloying disaster but Baitong avoids that. If you like sweet and sour food, you'll probably like this one. For myself, I'd like a hot sauce - even sriracha would do - to kick it up. As it is, the dish came with one packet of sweet and sour sauce (ingredients: sugar, vinegar, more sugar). I'd say the portion was generous even subtracting the very large serving of rice. - Spring rolls: I opted for a large order which, according to the menu, should comprise four rolls. I got five. They're OK but could use a dip of some sort, even soy sauce would help. Maybe that packet of sweet and sour sauce was meant for the rolls but there's no way I'm dipping anything into that. (Note to self: bring soy packets and hot sauce when visiting food carts). The menu offers just one entree for vegetarians, the yellow curry tofu, which will limit my wife's interest in Baitong. I would like to see the fried tofu cubes available with the pad thai, but the menu calls for only chicken or shrimp with that dish. All in all, a good food option at River's Place. read more

We got the Thai basil chicken and pad sei ew... despite both supposedly containing basil, we could neither see or taste any. In fact, we couldn't taste much of anything except a subtle sweetness from this otherwise bland food. Chicken literally tasted like chicken breast strips that got boiled separately prior to being thrown against their will into the container. Bland in the ewwww dish is probably generous. Tasted like sweetened fish oil in truth. I will say that despite the sprinkles of "rice is goop" complaints on here, I guess we got lucky cause the plain rice was the best thing. This is the newest addition at River's Place. Today's rainy and cool weather gave me an excuse to try their food. Service was friendly. Our food was ready to n less than 10mins. We ordered red curry chicken and chicken pad Thai. I asked fur spicy pad Thai and I was handed a spice packet so I can spice it up however I want. Food looked and smelled good. The curry came with Jasmine rice. It was piping hot. A little too creamy and sweet for my liking but the heat was spot on. It was perfect for this weather and complemented our drinks. The pad Thai was pretty sweet(for me anyway). IA splash of lime juice and the whole packet of dried Thai peppers helped a lot. Servings are just enough. Another positively abysmal Thai restaurant in Bend. Employees definitely speaking Thai, and I'm certain they know this isn't Thai food, even with a generous dose of imagination or charity. I only had the Pad Ka Prow (forget wheat they call it on their menu) but it was just ground chicken in soy sauce with a few red and green peppers. The only nod to what it was meant to be was a few sprigs of Thai basil placed on top. I'll reluctantly come back to try one more dish, but am not optimistic. read more

I'm a little surprised by the negative reviews being outside of the businesses control, like doordash messing up. This is our current favorite food truck, prices are fair for what you are getting and the the flavor and freshness of what we have tried is spot on. We love the garlic chicken. It is a sweet and savory dish with fried basil leaves. I think the salt could be taken down a touch, but we keep coming back for more. I have not had issues with it coming out greasy as another reviewer mentioned, and I am shocked that delivery always arrives with still crunch chicken. I would love to see more fresh veggies in the dishes, but that is generally my complaint with most Bend restaurants, food is either all veggies or none at all. read more

It tasted as if it were cooked days before and reheated. The tofu was unimaginably bad I'm not even sure where to begin, describing the tofu in the soup and the fried rice. It may as well have been, Styrofoam I think you can only get the outside of tofu that way if you reheat it, reheat it, reheat it and reheat it again, the pineapple fried rice had chunks of onion, including the core of an onion? The soup had a few mushrooms at the bottom and the same disgusting tofu that floated at the top. The soup was made of salt, sugar and rotten broth. Thai iced tea is my favorite treat, but I couldn't drink more than a few sips. It tasted like filthy water old watered down cream, and the tea itself was simply old. It looks like I will be up all night after consuming this in the early part of the afternoon. Oh, how I wish I had not missed breakfast, so I was hungry enough to consume even a small amount of this wretched food. He was excited about coming to River's Place, one of the myriad beer/food court establishments that have sprouted like amanita all over Bend. We placed our order: 3 thai style pot stickers, thai basil chicken for me, and pad thai for my basic bitch husband (if I'd let him get a couple of pints first, I might've been able to guide him to a more adventurous choice). Verdicts: - pot stickers were decent with a good dipping sauce, but I like mine a bit less fried and crunchy like these came -thai basil chicken (pad ka pao) was a bit disappointing. Super simple to make, and it's in our regular rotation at home. When it's good, it makes you say, "Oh, hell yes!" This isn't that. Basic and forgettable. -pad thai- well, he was hungry and grunted it down before I could taste any, but he said it was ok, without the intense tastes he's used to from other places. The also served the food with a side of good rice, and the dish in a plastic tupperware thingy. Didn't really understand that reason for that waste since we ordered it for here. I know times are tough but come on! They must have reheated the Pineapple Fried Rice for the last few days and then they just add in the tasteless shrimp at the time of ordering. I'm honestly concerned about the health/safety of this food. The cashews had been cooked so much they were almost transparent and were burnt. To top it all off, literally, they even add a pale pink tomato slice that is equally tasteless and hard as an apple! It is a shame because the overall flavor of the fried rice is there. A few weeks ago I had a few family members show up for a visit and decided to go to Noi Thai( Bai Tong on wheels) at General Duffy's, so glad I did. Whether was quite cold so we decided to take it home, even after bringing it home the food was excellent, crispy garlic chicken and the crab wontons were still crispy we also had the pad thai, pineapple shrimp fried rice, and the Thai basil chicken. The Thai Basil Chicken was a little dry and blan for what I'm used to but the rest of the meals were amazing! A big thanks to the super friendly staff that was working that night, you helped make our experience even better. We have been to this truck several times, it was good and we love Thai food. Unfortunately, it has gone downhill. The last time it wasn't that great, but made a mental note to just not order that menu item again. After last night we are done. We ordered the pad Thai which hardly tasted like anything. It had noodles, chicken, big chunks of lemongrass (weird), and a sprig of cilantro. My spouse ADDED part of the other entree to give the pad Thai flavor. The other entree was Garlic Basil Chicken--it was just, odd. This was in a separate container, it was so watery, at first I thought they had given us another soup. But it had soggy basil, so some flavor. This came with rice (which was probably the best item). We decided to order the soup that was a feature item since it is not on the main menu. It tasted like a bunch of random items (mushrooms, chicken, and lemongrass chunks again) thrown into coconut milk, no seasoning at all. We like lemongrass, but not as giant chunks in any dish. We also ordered spring rolls and a Thai tea, but not worth buying for just those two items. In order to salvage the leftovers we had/the money we spent--I had to really doctor up the main ingredients. If I have to do this to a restaurants food, we should have cooked at home instead.
