Food "ok". This is a place where you order at counter (stand in line), and then find a table. The staff graciously brought mine out to patio for me. I got the spicy teriyaki chicken (about 6 oz worth) and substituted broccoli florets (8) for the rice that it usually comes with. Topped it off with a Pure Leaf tea from their fridge. Nice partially shaded patio for the pup and I. Much appreciated. 8 tables outside and about a dozen inside. Good stop for a quick bite you can make pretty healthy with a couple substitutions. Had lunch here before a movie last weekend and really enjoyed it. Ordered a 3 item mixed plate with a hamburger steak. Kaluha pork and Kalbi with Mac salad and fries. I really enjoyed the kalbi and Mac salad the most. The kaluha pork was pretty good as well. I would probably pass on the hamburger steak. We walked over to the outdoor mall before attending a concert at the amphitheater! We decided on big island Kona mix plate. The prices are about $20 a person. I liked that they offered chicken breast as not many Hawaiian food places off it. They had plenty of inside and outside seating. Definitely try the spicy garlic sauce - that was my favorite. Overall it was a good meal, I think a bit overpriced for quality / portions, it would be nice to have a little bit more of the sides for that cost. read more

Location: Lots of parking usually, retail complex in Old Mill, next to Regal Cinema.. a little hard to see but it is there. Build Out: very nice, local looking, and similar or a lot nicer than what I'd find in the islands. Nothing fancy, but clean with open seating. Menu: Excellent options, I would suggest the Loco Moko pretty good here and it is all about the gravel, maybe ask for a little extra. Food Prep: Really nice, everything plate comes out the same done with care. Food Quality: All seems fresh and not over salted, Rice cooked great and eggs not greasy. I know it is not healthy, but at Big Island it just seems more healthy than my hut. Waitstaff: Incredible, so nice and happy to assist. After spending some time around the old mill district, we grabbed some food from here to eat on the way home and overall it was pretty good. I got the combo plate with Chicken Teriyaki and Spicy Chicken. The teriyaki sauce was fairly bland and a bit on the runny side but I really enjoyed the spicy chicken flavor! Chicken pieces were pretty thin and portions felt a little on the small side so I didn't quite get full after eating my entire meal. The potato mac tasted fantastic though, I thoroughly enjoyed that! And the steamed broccoli was perfect with some buttery saturation, yum! Next time I'd just get Spicy Chicken meal rather than a combo because I'd probably get a little more chicken that way? Either way, it's a cute little place with good tasting food and worth stopping by if you're in the area! read more

Visiting from out of town...Located in Old Mill area right next to the movie theater, depending on time of day and events, plus movies, parking may be an issue and hard to find. Be aware, they are closed on Sundays... Nice little place with hawaiian themed deco, not huge, so indoor seating may get crowded at times, we were a party of six and grabbed seating. Ordered the 2 item plate with Kalua Pork and Chicken Katsu with rice and Mac salad. Kalua pork was a little bland, needed a little more smoky flavor, but was ok. Chicken Katsu had nice breading with thin all white meat, I didn't use the Katsu sauce, but instead used their teriyaki sauce, which was very good. My son had the cooked to order hamburger steak, he asked for extra gravy and was provided a bowl full, he said it tased very good. The servers/cashiers were friendly and they provided great service. Another plus is that they had a full assortment of Hawaiian Sun drinks. The only odd thing, is that the Mac salad contained bits of potatoes, peas and carrots, not something you would find in authentic Mac salad, especially from any food truck on the islands. Overall 5 stars, even though it does not compete with other hawaiian places in larger metropolitan cities in CA, AZ and especially HI, it will do the trick if you are visiting Bend, OR and are looking for a lil bit of da local grindz! read more

I am staying with a friend and while they were at work, I walked over to the Old Mill District and lo and behold, I could NOT pass up this opportunity! So glad I listened to my instincts! Wonderful lil indoor/outdoor cafe with whimsical decor and photos of surfers on the walls. A huge menu but I opted for a small mix plate--which was still a lotta food! The restaurant is family owned, the service was friendly and impeccable and my meal was DELICIOUS, y'all! No iceberg lettuce--REAL greens side salad with my teriyaki pork and white rice. Beautiful presentation, too! If I lived here, I'd def be in once a week. I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I am from California but I was originally from Washington and every time I drive up there I stop in Bend and get something from here. I absolutely love the food. You guys, the fries are genuinely the best things I have ever had. The shrimp tempura was nice and buttery inside and flavorful. Chicken katsu was good too and the sauce that comes with it is so yummy. I love Hawaiian food and you can tell this is pretty authentic, I mean seriously everything was delicious. The lady who checked me out was not only super sweet but she was super patient with me as I scanned the menu for like 5 minutes because everything looked so delicious. A colleague recommended I stop by the restaurant. Earlier, we had discussed my trip to Hawaii, two months ago, and her multiple trips to the island over the years. Similar to locals in Hawai'i, she was attentive, kind and patient as I surfed through the menu. I ordered the mixed plate consisting of Chicken Katsu & Bulgogi (ie. very thin sliced beef marinated with garlic sauce). The plate was filled with steamed broccoli, chicken katsu, bulgogi, and side of macaroni salad. Chicken katsu was crispy and the bulgogi was savory & delicious. First meal in town. This restaurant was located by the theater, ample parking. The restaurant is small, but can accommodate about 15 ppl. I thought I would see a menu board on the wall, but the plastic menus were by the cashier. I ordered the two item entree, cannot remember what it was called. I had the kahlua pork and teriyaki chicken. The pork was decent, but missed something. I cannot put my finger on it, it was just a little "basic" and did not taste authentic. The teriyaki chicken, white meat, was portioned out so small. I know food is more expensive but with the already higher prices and smaller portions, I felt ripped off. No joke, my chicken portion was probably half a medium-sized chicken breast, sliced super thin. The "two" scoops of rice I got with my items probably was about a cup. The potato mac was ok. Pretty disappointing. The bulgogi and chicken teriyaki were so dry and flavorless. It was definitely over cooked on the grill and tasted burnt. Macaroni salad needed more seasoning. The stir fry was okay but definitely too small for the price. Mahi mahi tacos were overcooked and the salsa looked like just blended tomatoes. A lot of meat but it just wasn't good. Cashier was nice so they get two stars but definitely won't return. read more
