Chicken Katsu Bento with noodles and cucumbers.
Robin S.

Update: Nothing has changed. Still a great lunch option. Upgrading to five stars. Bend-O Bento is a takeout restaurant, which is what traditional bento is about. There are some seats tucked in the back but they're not very welcoming and seem to be used primarily for folks waiting on their order. Open during the week and only for lunch. - Teriyaki Beef Bento, with macaroni, glass noodles and brown/forbidden rice: Everything was tasty. Unlike with a lot of local restaurants, the teriyaki sauce is not cloyingly sweet. Good cuts of beef, well prepared. - Chicken Curry Special: breaded, sliced chicken on a bed of rice, separate tub of chicken curry. Lot of food, particularly if you eat all the rice. The curry is tasty, not too spicy, with a nice amount of chunky veggies, like a curry stew. I found the breaded chicken cutlet to be tasty but a little tough. - Chicken Katsu Bento with glass noodles and cucumber: Well-prepared chicken, pickled cucumbers are divine and glass noodles complement the whole bento. Lot of food. There are numerous standard menu items but also be sure to check out the white board with today's specials. Super friendly folks running this joint.

Service: the service was average. We were the first customers that were in the shop and the service was fast for us. It got busy with a packed front part of the shop with multiple people. Food: I ordered the wild salmon bento. It was a little on the fishy side. That is my only comment. The macaroni salad and the cucumber salad was good. The chicken Katsu was pretty good in my opinion. I do miss my bentos I would get when I ride the Shinkansen. Ambiance: small, cute, clean shop. I liked it. I feel there are limited ingredients in Central Oregon. This is pretty good for what we get in Central Oregon. I am happy that there is a small Japanese community in Bend. I can't wait to join it!

First time, nice, small, easy to go boxes

Great stop, lunch, friendly happy people... is what it is. YELP SHORT ANSWER: Recommended, and so nice to see this business doing well, please visit or best to call order in. Location: Not the best but it works, more of a locals stop. Interior: Small, very small but counters and a few chairs. Menu: Great, not large but this is a small space so we were impressed. Food Prep: Very nice, lots of care taken for presentation... it was perfect, domo. Food: Awesome, Bento Teriyaki Chicken and Curry Chicken Cutlet meals were sport on. Value: It is a bit expensive but I get it... guessing to stay open prices have to change a little. $16 for a Bento Box, it was worth it for us. We will be back when we are on the that side of town.

Best authentic Japanese restaurant! They are casual, fast, and homie style. They offer variety of items to choose from. They also have a long list of today special items. We enjoy our meal with hot green tea. Bento is a must try. We can pick the meat and 2 sides. The bento is huge and we had leftovers for the next day. The chicken cutlet is extra crunchy and the meat is still juicy soft. So good!! They gave us the whole bottle of katsu sauce. Love this!! I can have my favorite sauce as much as I want. The cucumber salad has a great taste and still maintains its crunchy. We also got chicken curry with panko fried shrimp (special item of that day). The curry is very tasty and I could taste the heat from pepper. I never have this lovely curry like this before. Shrimps are fresh and crunchy outside. Rice is perfectly cooked.

Legit authentic Japanese food. Owners are always there chef'in in the kitchen and the sweetest people. Food never disappoints plus tons of fun rotating specials. A must visit in bend for sure!

Pork Katsu Bento with the thread noodles and cucumber for sides and a miso soup

A local friend suggested this place. She said it was Japanese owned and they had good bento boxes. I ordered the Pork Katsu Bento with the power rice, the thread noodles and cucumber for sides, and a miso soup. Everything was delicious. They also have onigiri but they could take up to an hour to make so I'll have to try those next time I'm in town. The staff was extremely welcoming. Great little place and will be back for sure.

Delicious authentic bento box. It is so hard to find authentic Japanese cuisine that hasn't been Americanized. The food was flavorful and the perfect portion. Has both meat and non meat options. I loved the pickled daikon on the side Do not sleep on this restaurant, it is truly a gem!

My friends and I do a ladies lunch once a month and try new spots in town. HAVE YOU BEEN HERE YET…read more?????!?!??!! we all plan on going back with our husbands it wad that good . I had the number 4 at the recommendation of our server who by the way was delightful. The broth with the black garlic had me tipping my bowl to get every drop. I also ordered the pork bun and wish I would have ordered 4 of them. I cant remember the name of the dish my friend had but I did include a picture in my review she was delighted with it. My other friend ordered the won ton soup it was our least favorite of the 3 dishes we ordered but still so dang good. Do your self a favor and try this place DONT LET THE OUTSIDE of this place keep you from going INSIDE. They have some dated food pictures hanging in the window they make it seem slightly run down but inside is LOVELY and smells delicious. I will be back!!! Its Definitely a must try.

It was very quiet in this restaurant. In a strip mall I never noticed even though I've driven by it…read moreat least 100 times. I was thrilled that they have gluten free ramen even though it's nowhere to be found on their website or on this Yelp page. Now you all know!! I will say the texture of the noodles was odd. Not like it was undercooked, but they kinda snapped when you bit through them. I guess it was a gf noodle I'd never had. And the only type that's gf is the vegetarian- their pork and egg are both cooked in soy sauce and their pork broth has soy sauce in it. So I added chicken for an additional $5. Not my fave but it's so rare to find gf ramen at all so if your friends invite you here, you know you'll be able to get something!

Spork is awesome! We were driving through town on our way home to Cali and needed to get some late…read morelunch, early dinner. We arrived around 230 on a Wednesday and were surprised how many people were coming and going. After our experience, we understand why. We got in the short, quick line and looked over the specials and menu while waiting. I ordered the heirloom salad (but got the macha salsa on the side because I'm wimpy) and the elote corn, both on the " very, very specials" board. Randy ordered the chicken tinga taco and the carnitas taco and an order of chips and salsa. Corina got the beef and broccoli which came with a side of Jasmine rice. Everything was delicious although Randy was missing a couple things: a spicier salsa and thinner chips. I thought they were fine but he is quite particular where chips and salsa are concerned. He enjoyed the tacos, loved that they were street tacos and thought the carnitas were a little more flavorful but both were good. My salad was fresh and flavorful, all the components (minus the spicy macha salsa) made it exactly what I was hoping for. The corn was buttery, creamy, flavorful. The best I've had. It's a whole piece of corn broken in half and slathered with all the goodness with some slaw, cotija and lime on the side. Corina's beef and broccoli was scrumptious. I don't normally enjoy that dish but this one was excellent. The meat was flavorful and not grisly and the broccoli was cooked perfectly, not mushy. It was a huge portion. After eating a piece of the corn, she's got beef broccoli leftovers. Randy also got a raspberry soda which was good, not super sweet, and Corina got the apple mint lemonade which was very good. Everyone was nice and helpful and the music was a good level, plenty of seating. Apparently some outside too. We absolutely are looking forward to going back. PS picture of the wallpaper in the bathroom just because I loved it.

Food was probably a 4 by itself but the order system is weird which made the ambience chaotic. They…read moremake everyone order before seating first, which in theory would make the wait time shorter but in practice this didn't work because the same guy taking orders was the guy bartending at the front. Needs one guy serving drinks and answering questions about the menu, and one person taking orders. The food was Chinese fusion with Mexican influences and we got mala noodles, 1 shrimp taco, and fried chicken. I'm Chinese and my husband is Mexican, so in theory this place would be right up our alley. However the shrimp taco's tortilla was not made fresh which is is the whole point of the taco (the salsa and the tortilla). The chicken was decent but not spectacular. The mala noodle was good on flavor (kudos for keeping the "ma" part intact) and probably the best part of the meal, but the rice noodle needs to be cooked 1-2 minutes less.
