The food is fine--for Americanized Thai. Not the most flavorful but everything tastes clean, and it hits the "we don't feel like cooking tonight" mark. That said, do not be fooled by the spice scale. I'm not convinced there's a spice level beyond mild, no matter what you request. Now, onto the real star of the show: the service. My husband and I have turned dining here into a full-blown game. We place bets on how long it will take for our server to acknowledge us, whether we'll get a greeting or just a silent stare, if he will consider refilling or even giving us a drink, and what level of mild-to-moderate hostility we'll experience that evening. It's honestly become part of the charm. Dinner and a show. To his credit, this server is consistent. In the three years we've lived in Central Oregon, I'm fairly certain he is the only server we've ever seen there. Ever. And his attitude has been consistent. Which raises questions... but also a bit of admiration for his commitment to the bit. All jokes aside, if he hates being a server this much, it might be time for a career pivot. But until then, we'll probably keep coming back--not for the spice, not even really for the food--but to see what kind of performance we're getting that night. read more

My first time coming here, I wasn't impressed. I got a noodle dish. Don't remember which, but I remember something was off about it. This is my second time. I got the Tom Kha Soup. Yum! There's something about coconut milk and lime that just tastes amazing. I got the small size with shrimp for $2 more. It came with 4 shrimp, lots of onion and mushroom, which I love, and some cilantro. Would've loved more cilantro, but that's just me. I had company from out of town and we had tried Noi Thai in bend which was very good and since they love Thai they wanted to compare. The lemongrass pad Thai had no lemon grass and was extremely bland. The cashew chicken had zero cashews but at least a few nice veggies. The pineapple curry rice was dry with little pineapple and the Tom yum soup was a watery excuse for Tom Yum. We threw all the left overs out. I will never order here again. Delicious and fresh Thai restaurant. It is a no frills kind of place and the food was flavorful and clearly made with quality ingredients. My colleague and I went in for dinner. We split the fresh spring rolls and the peanut sauce was excellent. I had the ginger stir fry with shrimp and the 5 shrimp were a nice size. The rice was served on the side which was nice to build your own perfect bite. My colleague had the chicken teriyaki which he greatly enjoyed. Decent portions, I had a bit left over of the veggies that I took home as left overs. The hot tea was simple but good and the Thai iced coffee hit the spot. read more

Basil stir fry was the choice for the day. The basil which I love was crispy and a nice contrast to the rest of the meal. With plenty of seating the restaurant was nice and cool for even a hot day like this. None of the Thai restaurants in Bend have blown me away so I had hopes that Thai O in Redmond would be better. Sadly, not so much. This place strikes me as a good take-out place if you want a quick pseudo Thai fix. I'd put it in the same league as Orchid Thai in Bend. We had a tofu meal but you can get whatever protein you prefer. I don't think the flavor profile would differ much. - Ginger stir fry with tofu: Bland with very little ginger flavor. - Red curry with tofu: OK but could use quite a bit more depth to the curry and the bamboo shoots seemed to be dumped straight out of the can prior to serving. - Drunken noodles with tofu: a popular Thai dish, this version disappoints. Not real flavorful, not spicy at all and the noodles were clumped as the dish hit the table. - Green beans: Not good. Beans are not cooked through and the sauce they use had no flavor whatsoever. If you're thinking this dish is similar to Chinese-style dry fried green beans, it's not. Overall, Thai O's dishes lack depth and are not even close to being spicy or well seasoned. The chili oil / hot sauce condiments (there are two but you'll have to ask) helped but even then, they are the mildest I've ever had at a Thai restaurant. Lack of spiciness in Central Oregon restaurants is common - even those that advertise 'hot!'. So I guess I'm not surprised. But spiciness aside, Thai O's dishes could use more creative and assertive seasoning. Service was merely OK. We were there when it was not busy at all and were greeted promptly but after that, not so good. Neither server asked how we were after delivering the food. One dish was held up but we had to flag the server down to ask instead of being told it would be a few more minutes when he dropped off the other plates (they had to redo it in the kitchen, apparently). And we had to hunt down the hot sauces and call the server over to get drink refills. So, OK but somewhat disinterested service. The space is stark, laid out poorly with little thought to dining ambiance. However, the booths are comfortable and everything is spotless. Overall, OK for take-out where you can doctor up the food with your own sauces and seasoning but not OK for a sit-down meal. read more

I ate at Thai O for the first time on 10/20/23. Although the food was excellent, the service was less than one star. When we entered the restaurant at 7:30 pm we were told they were closing soon. (8:00 pm) We asked if it was too late to order; we were told we could if we were fast eaters by the waiter. We ordered our food to go. While we waited, we witnessed the waiter being extremely rude to another customer. I have never witnessed such poor service. This place is very new. So new that I couldn't find the telephone number anywhere and there is no website, so I had to go to the restaurant to place my order. The staff was nice and my food was ready within 15 minutes. There was no delay in the kitchen because I was the only one in the restaurant. A bit concerning at 6:00p on a weekday night, so I hope locals and tourists alike give Thai O a try. We ordered Chicken Satay, Pa Nang Curry with chicken and gave the Basil Stir Fry with beef a try. All of the sauces were creamy, but most of the food was a little on the mild side. They didn't ask me and I didn't think to specify it when I placed my order. I would guess they apply mild plus unless asked to do otherwise. I would ask them to up the standard spice level for our next order. The restaurant is bright and clean, but a little sterile. It would benefit from warming up the space with more personal and homey touches. They have a liquor license, so both beer and wine are available. Excellent drunken noodle and jasmine rice. If it's your first time and you like flavorful, slightly spicy Thai food make sure you ask for at least 3 stars. They don't verbally ask if you want spice. The vegetables were fresh and the fried tofu is perfection. There is only one front of house worker and he does a fantastic job serving everyone in a timely manner. I was so disappointed. I ordered the appetizer combo, the pad kee mao, and the basil fried rice. The appetizer combo was good in the sense that everything was well made and it had lots of variety, but it was nothing special. The pad kee mao was disappointing because they got my order wrong (pork with 4 stars) and I got chicken with no spice. It took forever for our food to come out (they were busy with both dine in and to go orders) and my dishes came out last in our group so I didn't even bother with asking them to correct it. The noodles were also under cooked (this is a first experience for me) and were almost rubbery. With all that, I would have given this place a 3* chalking it up to an off night where they were busy. But the basil fried rice pushed it down to a 2. It tasted like no one in the kitchen had ever eaten basil fried rice in any other restaurant, let alone from Thailand. It was sickly sweet. The flavor profile was just all wrong. I took two bites and basically just wrapped it to go to see if I could correct the flavor at home. I added more soy sauce and really wished I had some fish sauce, because that would have improved the flavor, but man, it was really disappointing. Service was polite and though it was very slow with all the orders going on, they did their best to take good care of us. They refilled waters and tea, they would return to check on us at (long) intervals. I think with more staffing they could better accommodate their customers. I hope this is due to the staffing shortage that businesses are facing and that they are able to correct their flavor profiles and have consistent dishes. read more

I've eaten here twice now, both times were to-go orders. I normally get chicken pad Thai at all Thai places. The pad Thai the first time I ordered was okay (which is the only reason why this is two stars and not one). The most recent time I had family in town who wanted Thai food so I ordered Thai O again. This time I got the drunken noodles. The dish was so bland I had to break out spices from my cabinet. My family member got the chicken pad Thai and said it tasted like there was ketchup in it. I thought that couldn't be right because I had ate that same dish the first time I went. I tried her chicken pad Thai and it did taste like ketchup. So gross. Everyone was disappointed in this choice. Definitely going to go to one of the great choices for Thai food in Bend next time I want Thai. read more
