    Tri-tip taco
    Adriana F.

Huge shoutout to Baja Bay Surf N Tacos for turning a simple taco stop into a full-blown "guess we live here now" afternoon. We're currently on a six-week road trip, hiking our way through 13 national parks, and this was one of our designated rest days. Meaning: laundry, hydration, and pretending our legs still belong to us. Somewhere between washing socks and chasing quarters, we decided tacos were necessary. Because honestly, when are fish tacos not necessary? What started as a quick stop stretched into a couple of happy hours hanging out on the patio. We ordered fish tacos, originally hoping for red snapper, but they were out, so cod stepped in as the understudy and absolutely nailed the role. Flavorful, fresh, and paired dangerously well with a seriously solid margarita. Then came one of the best parts of the afternoon: chatting with the guy grilling tri-tip right there on the little patio. Funny, welcoming, and clearly gifted with fire and meat. The man was basically running a tiny taco theater production, and we became loyal audience members immediately. Naturally, we ordered more food. The shrimp ceviche was fresh and tasty, though I personally lean toward a more classic ceviche style. Then I surprised my husband with a tri-tip taco because, at this point, I practically knew the chef, obviously. And wow. That taco. Melt-in-your-mouth tender with perfectly balanced flavor. The homemade blue corn tortillas deserve their own applause too. Soft, fresh, and clearly made by people who understand tortillas are not just a delivery system, they are part of the experience. By the end, we were gloriously overfed and completely skipped dinner. No regrets. Laundry day has never tasted this good.

Good service. Nice location. Seating can be tight. Clean. The food is good but I think it's way overpriced for what it is and everything is an individual charge.

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while now. I visited on a Monday during the week, and it was surprisingly empty. We ordered our food and sat down. When our food arrived, the same person who took our order brought it to our table. The service was just okay. Honestly, the person taking our order seemed to be doing the bare minimum and didn't appear particularly happy about being there. I ordered two fish batter tacos, while my husband opted for a shrimp burrito. I found the shrimp tacos to be better than the burrito. They offered a variety of sauces, and I must say, they were a bit spicy. However, they were still enjoyable. I also had an agua fresca, but unfortunately, they only had one option: cucumber limonade. While the prices at this restaurant are not cheap, I would say that the fish tacos were very good and comparable to those you can find in Baja.

Fish and shrimp tacos. 5 out of 5 deliciousness.

Upon entering, a cashier greeted us. As we glossed over their limited menu, we asked if we could do some tacos as plates, which he stopped his personal phone usage to answer that we can do two taco plates. So we were excited to order, we started with a 2 taco fried and grilled fish taco plate, and added a grilled shrimp taco a la cart. He never stopped using his phone and delayed his response to each statement as such. (At this point in our multi-day trip, we've had A LOT of bad, awkward, and/or jarring customer service experiences.) Shouldn't be surprised that we experienced this, BUT given that we came to this area specifically for these fish tacos was a bit disappointing to experience this lackluster interaction. Nonetheless, we sat outside under an umbrella which has counter height tables and stool chairs. (There were regular table height and chairs as well). Word of warning, know the ground that you are sitting at. There are areas where divers can send you flying in a multitude of directions. Any older person who is not prepared can get seriously hurt. (OSHA, you out there?) The food came out within 5 minutes of us ordering (we were the only customers during the beginning of lunch), and the cashier provided 3 sauces to use. (Red, green, and what I would call as Mango Fuego!!!!!) The crispy fish taco was as perfect as ever. Flavor of the batter and cook was still the best I've ever had and was bigger than the purple tortilla housing it. The sauce that was drizzled over was phenomenal. The Spanish rice had this addictive quality making me think I'll just have a scoop of that in place of the beans (refrain from verbally assaulting me. I like their beans, I just don't LOVE beans in general.) The grilled fish had this blackened Cajun style quality to it, I was happy to have given it a try. Squeezing a lime wedge can help offset the saltiness with acidity! The grilled shrimp taco has more shrimp than you'll need for this one taco, but we will take it. Cooked perfectly, with a snap from the exterior but soft in the center, well seasoned throughout. And they also provide a light-complexion chili pepper. Anaheim or Hatch chili? Don't know but not spicy and deliciously seasoned and roasted. Regardless of the unusual first interactive experience, I am still interested in returning and introducing my kids to the best fried fish tacos I've had in all of California.

Wow! What can I say? I was pleasantly surprised by this cute, quaint and perfect hole in the wall restaurant! I came with friends and we tried their tacos, cheese quesadilla and my favorite their tri-tip torta which is absolutely delicious! Quick service, as you place your order in the front and they bring it to you. I highly recommend getting their chips and salsa and their regular salsas they give with all orders is absolutely delicious!

This place is amazing!!! Everything that I've tried has been full of flavor and cooked perfectly. I definitely recommend the Surf n Turf burrito. Their salsas, grilled peppers, and pickled red onions complement the already delicious flavors. The owners are the sweetest people and can catch them outside cooking up the meats on the Santa Maria style grill. Crossing my fingers that they will start bottling and selling their amazing salsas.

super yum! got a grilled shrimp and steak tacos +rice/beans & a steak torta... fire! The salsa is super flavorful, and the steak was cooked perfectly. Great service as well! Definitely coming back!

I was in the area on a trip and decided to stop by for lunch. I ordered the shrimp ceviche and my husband ordered the fish and chips. We sat outside and the weather was beautiful! The food came out quickly and was delicious. The shrimp were huge and the chips were so crunchy. Everything was so flavorful and the fish and chips were perfect. The fish was the crispiest I have ever had and the fries had an amazing seasoning on them. I wish I lived closer so I could come back every day! There is plenty of parking which is nice and other shops so when you are done you can walk around.

The food was amazing. It was all great. Fresh superb service fast some of the best fish I ever had

Food bomb! My only huge frustration is the time they close. Like why are we closing at 6, prime time dinner time. I've come by so many times forgetting it closes early and I've been wanting to take my mom but can't bc it's closed.. I hope that changes. Even to 730 would be amazing. But food is bomb! Place is clean.

Kudos to Baja Bay Surf N Taco for making some killer tacos! These were my favorite battered tacos that I've ever had- the crisp and crunch of the shrimp and fish were perfect. The blue corn tortillas were on point, alongside the toppings. They certainly do not skimp on the meats and toppings. The cherry on top is there three options of salsas- red (medium chile de arbol), green (mild), and spicy (habanero). Clearly a small business, the owners were nice and gave their suggestions and came to check on us during our visit. This is located on the harbor near many shops / restaurants- but this is the one to checkout! There is both outdoor and inside seating, perfect to enjoy the cool beach weather. I only wish I lived closer to enjoy these tacos all the time!

This place is located in the Ventura Harbor Village, right next to the parking lot. I was craving fish tacos and after reading all the raving reviews, I knew I needed to hit this spot. Upon arrival, I noticed that the menu is very simple with just a few items on the board. I asked if they had a taco combo plate available and they surely did! Less than $20 got me two big beer-battered fish tacos with a side of rice, beans, chips and a chile. Definitely impressive portions for cost. Everything tasted freshly made but I felt like it was lacking flavor (bland), the salsa was delicious though so I added that to everything. For beverages they offer can/bottle options and have a fresh agua fresca choice available. Also, there is a small self-serve water station available by the condiments. The man at the counter (I take to be the owner) is extremely nice and professional. They have some indoor and outdoor seating available. The ambiance is very California coastal, love it! All in all, taking into consideration each aspect with location/taste/presentation/service.. I give 4 stars :)

Wow! This is the spot for delicious tacos at great prices! Family owned place that has great food, service and music. Ordered a grilled fish and carne asada taco and it was fantastic. They give you homemade chips and a white pepper that starts out mild then get spicy when you get to the seeds. The salsas they have are flavorful too and the green sauce is the spicy one. The portions were more than enough and at $8 a taco, it was well worth it. You gotta stop here to eat if you are at the marina or beach.

It was a solid grilled fish taco with not a ton of pomp and circumstance. Just unadulterated goodness. Fast forward to my recent visit - it didn't quite hit the same though I'm sure my palette has since evolved. The World Famous grilled fish taco ($7.95) was good, but was only made better with the in house sweet chili fire sauce. Of the things we ordered, I did really enjoy the ahicado ($13.75) which is ahi tuna mixed in lemon infused olive oil on top of avocado and served with wonton chips. I love a wonton chip situation and paired with the fresh ahi, it made for a perfect bite. The guy next to us ordered several Parmesan hard shell tacos ($5.50) so I did too (with shredded chicken). The flavorful chicken was perfectly shredded so you didn't get unmanageable hunks with each bite. These were unexpectedly very tasty. Highly recommend if you like a hard shell sitch. Judging from the lines at 2:00PM on a Saturday afternoon, Spencer MaKenzie's is a Ventura institution even if I won't be thinking about the grilled fish tacos n-e-more. First off, the parking here is a nightmare. I literally got boxed in and had to ask someone to move their car so I could back out. Secondly, me and my coworker stop here at 11:30am for an early lunch. There is literally 1 other person there who had already ordered and got their meal just as me and my coworker sit down after ordering. We ordered 7 tacos in total... 30 minutes later the food still hadn't arrived. I finally go up to the counter to see if something was wrong and the guy had no idea about our order and said he was sorry that they had a big catering order. As a former business owner I do understand that stuff happens and a large catering order is good for business but ultimately that isn't the customers problem. Especially the customer that is sitting there at your establishment. Rather than tell us while we were ordering that it might take longer than normal, they don't communicate anything and then don't even address the issue until I go up there to complain. Once that happened the tacos came out in less than 5 minutes which is even more upsetting since this is how fast they should have come out to begin with. The gentleman who I think was an owner did apologize and try to offer some free drinks which I politely declined as I knew I'd never be back again. I hope that this business learns to service the customers properly that are actually dining there and if there is an issue at least takes some initiative to address it on the front side. Most working class people only get a 30-45 minute lunch to begin with so it wasn't cool that we literally wasted 30 minutes just sitting there with no explanation. There are plenty of other good places around Ventura for lunch - especially for tacos. Won't be going back here ever.

There's not a lot of interaction with the staff, but everything was smooth and efficient. One of my favorite parts was the atmosphere. The happy hour crowd was a nice mix of people, and the place had a fun, lively energy without feeling overwhelming. Since it was a warm day, my friend and I chose to sit inside. We had a spacious table with plenty of room for our food and drinks, which made it easy to relax and enjoy catching up. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely come back for happy hour. It's a great spot for good food, reasonably priced drinks, and a casual place to meet up with friends.

Ten Tigers is off the beaten path and I've met friends here for coffee but after 4:00 it transforms into Ten Tigers. Hubby read about their Smash Burgers so we split one and the flavors with chipotle aioli were the bomb! We've been going to Third Window in SB for our Smash Burger fix- no need to drive all that way anymore!! For $17 you get a Smash Burger that feeds 2 and perfectly crispy thin fries fried in beef tallow. They even serve chipotle aioli with fries- Best!! I ordered the special White Sangria which Is so good I had to order on repeat. Since it was Happy Hour, we also ordered the grilled chicken tacos for $8. We both thought those were tasty as well and their avocado salsa verde is the just like the one I make at home. Ambiance is well curated with welcoming outside patio feeling very open and airy with organic Boho accents and wood features. The servers were efficient but very friendly. Ten Tigers is legitimately a 5 Star - will Recommend highly! Since this review, we re-visited on a Friday evening and ordered the same drinks and meal. I can confirm the consistent quality of the food. This Friday night was hopping with several groups celebrating Birthdays. We lucked out and found one of the last open tables. The servers were very busy and took a while to clear off and clean our table - not a big deal because their priority is serving the tables and getting the food and drinks out to the tables. There is a longer line at the counter to order just before Happy Hour ends at 6:00. Tip- plan your evening to arrive earlier. Ten Tigers is now on our repeat list in Ventura.

I love Beach House Tacos. I make a point to stop by here any and every time I am driving through…read moreVentura/Santa Barbara etc., and have on many occasions driven down from Santa Clarita just to satisfy my craving. I have always had great experience with the staff there; they have always been kind, courteous and attentive. Even when I order over the phone (and on a few occasions that has been within 30 minutes of closing time, lol). They are always understanding and accommodating. I always get either the seafood burrito or the spicy garlic shrimp burrito, but I always ask them to let me add an extra protein and they happily oblige for a very small surcharge (my go-to is usually some combination of the spicy garlic shrimp, ahi-seared rare, grilled shrimp, and/or grilled salmon). The burrito is huge! And for the quality of ingredients, the blast of flavor, and beach-side vibes, all for $14-20 depending on how you customize your meal, it is definitely a good bang for your buck. Highly recommend. Oh and they always hook it up with the salsa, and their salsas and sauces are bomb! I have seen them extremely busy during peak hours and on weekends because there are many beach goers and tourists in the area, and because the Ventura Pier and San Buenaventura Beach are such popular places. My family and I love to walk the pier while waiting for our food, or grab our order and head down to the sand to eat while the kids play on the playground. I definitely recommend making a day out of it.

Beach House Tacos? More like Beach House Snacks…read more I stood in line for 15 minutes just to place my order at the window, then waited another 45 minutes for my food. An hour later, I was handed a to-go box so tiny it fit in the palm of my hand. For a split second, I thought maybe they forgot the rest of my order. Nope. Inside were three of the smallest "street tacos" I've ever seen. I've seen more substantial meals in Barbie's Dreamhouse. I ordered the carne asada, but apparently the salt shaker took the day off because the meat had absolutely zero seasoning. No salt, no flavor, no redeeming qualities. The punchline? This tiny, flavorless comedy routine cost me $10 and an hour of my life. If you're looking for an appetizer for a doll or you're on a strict "disappointment diet," this is your place. As for me... never again.
