    Chicken bowl
    Jim E.

So the food was good, lunch for 3 was about $60.00 so not really cheap, and they messed up all three orders. We had two bowls, chicken and pork, both were delivered to the table without the lettuce and tomato. (See Before Photos) third order was Chili Relleno, received Chili Verde. Chili Verde vs Chili Relleno I can chalk up to a simple mistake, but the Bowls without lettuce and tomato, that is just poor quality control. Good Food, Poor Quality Control and a higher price point move what could have been 4 stars down to 3.

First time here. Ordered for take out. My bf highly recommended by me and we have the same taste. I got confused with the entrance because it's a black metal screen door. Once you get in you're greeted. Very nice lady and helpful. The burritos and Birria tacos I ordered are really good. All the salsas full of flavor and fresh sides. It's a small place but very welcoming. The ambiance feels home like. It wasn't packed when I went but I heard it gets packed. I'm definitely coming back for more. I had a great experience here

I had not been to this location in years. I'm from Oxnard.. so I just hit that one up. Love the remodel. They added outdoor seating / dining . Cool! I also love the salsa bar. My fave salsa is the chipotle. Clean spot! Service is quick and friendly. I got my asada tacos to go and I was in / out with a quickness! Asada Tacos are currently $ 2.85 as of 8.23.24 . Highly rec!

the food was outstanding, beans were fresh and creamy rice was good. The beef flautas were very good, the restaurant is small but the service is great and the food fresh and delicious, definitely like I was in Mexico.

    Torts Taco Cubano

This is not a place to go if you are expecting a hostess and waiter experience. It is a nice, clean, little place to place to grab some Mexican Food. When you arrive, order at the counter before sitting down. If you have people with you, save a table! This place is little and it will fill up within minutes even if it looks dead. Service is fast, it was only about ten minutes between when we ordered and the food arriving. Everything is self serve, including the salsa bar and condiments for menudo. I won't recommend it for large parties, seating might be tricky. For a party of four, we found an open spot pretty quickly. We first tried the Torta Cubano. It is not a true Cubano but a great spin on the concept. Meat was seasoned just right and slightly fried at the edges which added to the great taste. The bread was lightly toasted and the flavor was awesome. Next was the Gordita. It was decent, but the carnitas meat had a little too much juice which quickly made the whole thing soggy. The last bite was too messy to pick it up. I wouldn't order it again. Finally, the Menudo was really the reason we were there. I am always in the hunt to find good Menudo. This one, missed the mark, a lot. First thing I noticed about the Menudo was the smell. It didn't smell like they cleaned the meat, at all. They used a lot of chicken boullion, so much so that it thickened up the juice...way too much. This boullion overpowered the entire soup, I could not taste nothing but the chicken. Hopefully this was just a bad day with the spices. I'd be willing to try it again. Overall, nice quick place to grab some decent food.

Order from the counter then find a table.

I was delighted to find this small restaurant on the "Avenue" while on my way to Ojai. The staff was friendly and efficient. The menu (mostly in Spanish) was large, especially considering the size of the restaurant. I chose the flautas plate and it was terrific. Three large flautas (I chose chicken over cheese), a scoop of refried beans served in a small fried tortilla "cup", and Mexican rice. You order at the counter and then take a table. There are about eight tables for 4 and two tables for 2. The restaurant has a parking lot on the side which is nice, as street parking is harder to find. I look forward to returning to try some of the other items on the menu. I would recommend this family-owned business without hesitation.

I also ordered a cheese and onion enchilada, but she gave me chicken instead. On top of that, I started to order a drink but then said never mind--yet after I sat down, I noticed she still charged me for the drink, so I had to go back up and ask for a refund. I also noticed she seemed distracted, busy looking at the TV while charging me (so much so that I even turned to see what she was watching). And at the time, I was the only customer!

Hands down the best sopes I have ever had. I come back to Ventura just for this, and they never fail to impress me. I come from a Mexican family who has made these and back to my dad's hometown but nothing hits like these. The man was nice and the place felt lively, plus there are restrooms. The cotija cheese with the orange/red salsa is my go-to. I look forward to coming back asap!

Parking is, well, if you know you know. :( REVIEW: This is a great little restaurant and I prioritize coming here every time I am in DTVTA. Recently, I was at the Rubicon Theatre and needed lunch after a show. This location is located within walking distance of the Rubicon and is usually so busy each time I come! My marker of a good place to eat is usually on how busy they are. :) This recent visit I had a torta (my first, didn't catch the name) and it was outstanding! The meat was fresh and hot and the bun was flavorful! I did note that on my next visit here I want to try the Hawaiian (?) torta! Can't wait to be back! The service is always great each time. I've thought about returning several times over the course of the last year, but never did until tonight. Turns out nothing has changed, still good food, still loud AF. This time I had a Taco al Pastor. It was excellent, with soft, flavorful meat topped with onions, cilantro and a slice of pina. My wife had a Fish taco, which was impressively large. I suspect that fish taco was every bit as excellent as my pastor taco because my wife didn't offer me a bite, as she usually does. We had been talking nonstop since we sat down, but when the tacos arrived the conversation ended. All I could think was, damn, I gotta finish this taco before she asks me for a bite. I imagine she was thinking the same thing. What I didn't have to worry about was sharing the guacamole and tortilla chips. The serving size of the guacamole is easily enough for two people. And the tortilla chips, same generous serving size. The chips are good too, not the boring chips one encounters all too frequently at other places. I was also impressed by the Horchata here. Way above average. Creamy and rich AF. If you aren't having a beer, you definitely should check out the Horchata. And dog, they've got all kinds of beers up in here! I mean, yeah, cold local beers and even happy hour discounts! Gaw! So, yeah, I love this place. I just wish it wasn't so freaking loud. Maybe next time I visit I'll wear my noise cancelling headphones. Mikey C says: if it's too loud, you're too old. True dat.

First off, the parking here is a nightmare. I literally got boxed in and had to ask someone to move their car so I could back out. Secondly, me and my coworker stop here at 11:30am for an early lunch. There is literally 1 other person there who had already ordered and got their meal just as me and my coworker sit down after ordering. We ordered 7 tacos in total... 30 minutes later the food still hadn't arrived. I finally go up to the counter to see if something was wrong and the guy had no idea about our order and said he was sorry that they had a big catering order. As a former business owner I do understand that stuff happens and a large catering order is good for business but ultimately that isn't the customers problem. Especially the customer that is sitting there at your establishment. Rather than tell us while we were ordering that it might take longer than normal, they don't communicate anything and then don't even address the issue until I go up there to complain. Once that happened the tacos came out in less than 5 minutes which is even more upsetting since this is how fast they should have come out to begin with. The gentleman who I think was an owner did apologize and try to offer some free drinks which I politely declined as I knew I'd never be back again. I hope that this business learns to service the customers properly that are actually dining there and if there is an issue at least takes some initiative to address it on the front side. Most working class people only get a 30-45 minute lunch to begin with so it wasn't cool that we literally wasted 30 minutes just sitting there with no explanation. There are plenty of other good places around Ventura for lunch - especially for tacos. Won't be going back here ever.
