But this spot completely exceeded our expectations. We ordered delivery, and even then, everything arrived fresh, well-packaged, and still absolutely delicious--which says a lot. The food was incredibly flavorful without being heavy or greasy (something that's hard to find). You could really taste the freshness in the ingredients, and every dish felt well-balanced and thoughtfully made. So the food was good, lunch for 3 was about $60.00 so not really cheap, and they messed up all three orders. We had two bowls, chicken and pork, both were delivered to the table without the lettuce and tomato. (See Before Photos) third order was Chili Relleno, received Chili Verde. Chili Verde vs Chili Relleno I can chalk up to a simple mistake, but the Bowls without lettuce and tomato, that is just poor quality control. First time here. Ordered for take out. My bf highly recommended by me and we have the same taste. I got confused with the entrance because it's a black metal screen door. Once you get in you're greeted. Very nice lady and helpful. The burritos and Birria tacos I ordered are really good. All the salsas full of flavor and fresh sides. We ordered take out on our last night in town on a great trip but some lackluster restaurants. Everything we ordered was amazing even for takeout, loved the salsa, chips, guacamole, vegetarian tacos, rice and beans and we loved the salsas and great vegetarian options. We ordered delivery but called for some extra salsas to be added to our order and the person on the phone had great customer service. This is not a place to go if you are expecting a hostess and waiter experience. It is a nice, clean, little place to place to grab some Mexican Food. When you arrive, order at the counter before sitting down. If you have people with you, save a table! This place is little and it will fill up within minutes even if it looks dead. Service is fast, it was only about ten minutes between when we ordered and the food arriving. Everything is self serve, including the salsa bar and condiments for menudo. I won't recommend it for large parties, seating might be tricky. For a party of four, we found an open spot pretty quickly. We first tried the Torta Cubano. It is not a true Cubano but a great spin on the concept. Meat was seasoned just right and slightly fried at the edges which added to the great taste. The bread was lightly toasted and the flavor was awesome. Next was the Gordita. It was decent, but the carnitas meat had a little too much juice which quickly made the whole thing soggy. The last bite was too messy to pick it up. I wouldn't order it again. Finally, the Menudo was really the reason we were there. I am always in the hunt to find good Menudo. This one, missed the mark, a lot. First thing I noticed about the Menudo was the smell. It didn't smell like they cleaned the meat, at all. They used a lot of chicken boullion, so much so that it thickened up the juice...way too much. This boullion overpowered the entire soup, I could not taste nothing but the chicken. Hopefully this was just a bad day with the spices. I'd be willing to try it again. Overall, nice quick place to grab some decent food. read more

I was delighted to find this small restaurant on the "Avenue" while on my way to Ojai. The staff was friendly and efficient. The menu (mostly in Spanish) was large, especially considering the size of the restaurant. I chose the flautas plate and it was terrific. Three large flautas (I chose chicken over cheese), a scoop of refried beans served in a small fried tortilla "cup", and Mexican rice. You order at the counter and then take a table. There are about eight tables for 4 and two tables for 2. The restaurant has a parking lot on the side which is nice, as street parking is harder to find. I look forward to returning to try some of the other items on the menu. I would recommend this family-owned business without hesitation. read more

On top of that, I started to order a drink but then said never mind--yet after I sat down, I noticed she still charged me for the drink, so I had to go back up and ask for a refund. Love this place so much! Often I'm happy to find a restaurant with just one vegan option. But this amazing taqueria has a whole menu of vegan taco options including vegan cheese! And every one is delicious. The mushroom, rajas and cheese is perfection. Everything is fresh, the salsas are all different and all so good. The staff is always kind, polite and helpful. The restaurant is clean and tidy as is the bathroom. Love the curbside patio when it's not too hot out. And their prices are SO reasonable for the quality! I am so sad to say that this location has been missing the mark lately. In the time since my first review, the quality of food and flavor has declined, and while it pains me to say this, after three disappointing experiences, I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. On my last visit, my brother and I ordered two number 2 veggie tacos( an all time favorite with raja, sautéed mushrooms, and melted cheese) and a carne asada taco plate. Their veggie taco has always been a standout menu item but it seems they've changed the recipe (and the cheese they use) and the new version lacks both substance and flavor. The carne asada was dry and rubbery and the rice and beans arrived cold, despite dining in. I really like Cuernavaca, so here's hoping the Oxnard location keeps the original recipes and continuity of service. read more

Hands down the best sopes I have ever had. I come back to Ventura just for this, and they never fail to impress me. I come from a Mexican family who has made these and back to my dad's hometown but nothing hits like these. The man was nice and the place felt lively, plus there are restrooms. Oops. The chili relleno did not have melted cheese inside. The cheese was still cold. Obviously, it was not heated enough prior to being brought out to the table. When I alerted the man who brought it to me and showed him how the cheese was still cold and solid (not melted), he claimed, "It's not supposed to be melted inside." What a silly thing to say! I'm 65 years old and I've been eating chili rellenos my whole life, and they ALWAYS have hot melted cheese inside. If you ask Google whether chili rellenos are supposed to be filled with melted cheese, the answer is "absolutely." With tip, this was a disappointing way to spend over twenty bucks. I did not finish my dinner. (I was also not willing to argue and make the guy take my plate back and heat it more.) I also thought it was odd the way the chili relleno arrived in a fairly deep puddle of clearish orange broth rather than the traditional thick salsa/cheese you get elsewhere. read more
