Parking is, well, if you know you know. :( REVIEW: This is a great little restaurant and I prioritize coming here every time I am in DTVTA. Recently, I was at the Rubicon Theatre and needed lunch after a show. This location is located within walking distance of the Rubicon and is usually so busy each time I come! My marker of a good place to eat is usually on how busy they are. :) This recent visit I had a torta (my first, didn't catch the name) and it was outstanding! This is one of the newer Cuernavacas, after the initial location on the Avenue and one in Oxnard, where Marshalls and Daiso are located. I've eaten at 3 of their locations, and perhaps this location may be slightly more geared to 'gringo' tastes. I had their breakfast burrito, and unlike most other tacquerias, they give you a lot of nice melted cheese. The beans didn't taste as salty or flavorful as some other taco places. But overall, very satisfying, just didn't have that fully tacqueria taste. I have really enjoyed their veggie Papas and rajas tacos at the Avenue location. This may be the best tacqueria for vegetarians, more options. Staff here tends to be younger (college ages), and generally very friendly. I actually sometimes just stop in for their Horchata. It's not homemade (as that is a very difficult drink to make!) but I find it satisfying. In general all the prices here are reasonable, less than some other places that are charging 15-17 for burritos. This is a strong recommendation if you are downtown and craving casual Mexican eats! read more

So I've been here several times now. The handmade tortillas are excellent. Salsas are great. Asada is pretty good chicken and shrimp. Tacos are phenomenal especially the orange chicken. I think it's Tinga. Cool spot right on Main Street. My only complaint is there's a girl that works here. She's been there every time I've gone and she always has an attitude. Very unfriendly I've brought friends here yesterday and they had the same experience. Your customers should not feel like they're bothering you when ordering food. read more

The bread was dipped in a mild chili sauce (so a touch messy to eat) but not enough to fall apart. I blame my friends, Erica and Melissa, for introducing me to Taqueria Cuernavaca because I crave their tacos a lot. Love this place. They serve really good food. Prior to me becoming a pescatarian I tried their birria tacos and loved them. Since becoming a pescatarian my go to taco is always their spicy shrimp taco. Flavors are delicious. My husband gets their papas con rajas taco and also craves it. We sometimes go out of our way to go get tacos from here because we love them that much. This location has outdoor and indoor seating. It is in downtown so you would need to park in near by parking lots or street and walk. Overall, we have enjoyed it and will continue coming here. read more

This is a small shop serving very good Mexican food. Everything tasted very authentic except for the aguas frescas, but I know those are labor intensive. At the recommendation of the counter gal, I went with the burrito with tinga de pollo, which is chicken with certain spices. It was very flavorful and delicious. The tortilla was nicely toasted on the exterior and tasted housemade. The tacos were on the smaller side so I would suggest getting at least two (or maybe three) of them per order. They were also very good. The chips were a delightful surprise. They were obviously freshly-made and I could have eaten a thousand of them. I highly recommend getting chips with your order. This is quality food and I imagine you could work your way through the menu happily until either your money gives out or you hit 300 pounds, whichever comes first. read more

So so good. Let's start off with the pricing, very affordable. It's hard to find a place that has great food and isn't going to blow the bank. I'm obsessed with their salsa bar! The carrots As a vegetarian, it's often hard to find decent tacos but they have multiple options. The corn was my favorite since I'm a big corn fan, but pepper and cheese was also amazing. But the suadero was hidden behind a wall of rice, so much so that I got heartburn from the rice - imh, and why writing this now. Less rice and I understand the beef prices not to mention all pricing is Way-up. But less rice, keep on with the delicious suadero, and your yummy beans and I'm happy. Bigger burrito if by more rice...not equal better. Smaller but tastier, cuz again your suadero is very delicious and best around, is thumbs-up and five star all day every day. read more

We stopped by Taqueria Cuernavaca Express on our way back from Solvang last night and it was a great experience. We were greeted immediately when we entered by the lady at the counter and she was very helpful with descriptions of the different dishes they offer. I had a couple of Carnitas Tacos with added Cheese and Cilantro and a Plain Cheese Quesadilla. The Carnitas were really Lean, Flavorful and Tender. The Tortillas were Warm and Delicious. The Cheese in the Tacos and Quesadilla was Mild Jack Cheese, Warm & Creamy. My friend had the Carne Asada Tacos and said they were extremely Tasty. Everything was Reasonably Priced and we will definitely go back the next time we're in the area. read more

Service was super quick and the staff were patient as I ordered since they had so many protein options to choose from. The burrito was super good and juicy The birria itself was tender and extremely flavorful. I wish honestly there was even more juicy consommé in the burrito but structurally it wouldn't work. I wish they just gave me a side with it!! The tacos were great. I got asada, suadero, Chile verde, chorizo, and fish as the proteins. All the tacos were super good but the fish and chile verde were my absolute favorites. Super flavorful and nothing overcooked. There are a lot of salsas to choose from with you meal, but my favorite was their green one. Super refreshing and perfectly spicy! Yummy! I always seek out great food to celebrate an exciting life change or event. Last month, I decided to make a permanent career change away from Ubering and clowning, and back into commercial modeling, which demanded a visit to one of my favorite places in Ventura for comida Mexicana. Taqueria Cuernavaca. Taqueria Cuernavaca Express is a pint-sized branch of the small family-owned chain that is conveniently located smack dab in the middle of downtown Ventura. TCE serves a stunning variety of tortas, burritos, sopes and tacos. And they have all the meats, including carne asada, lengua, birria, pastor, talapia, carnitas, chorizo, chicken, and chicken tinga. And who doesn't love a little "tinga" in their chicken? I restarted my modeling career by reactivating my unlimited lifetime contract with the Barbizon School of Modeling in Hollywood, which has been crushing the innocent dreams of young people for decades. I have a lifetime membership because I was in its first graduating class in the late seventies and booked their first sizable modeling campaign. It was for Woolworth's failed line of children's business suits. I still have the tiny briefcase from that shoot. I was eventually fired from that campaign due to creative differences with the photographer, make up artist, hairstylist, creative director, one of the lighting professionals, and craft services. I was young and volatile, and had no patience for anyone looking me directly in the eyes while I was working or having lunch. They also accused me of stealing a briefcase. Taqueria Cuernavaca Express is a wonderful place to have lunch, as it provides a balance of great food, friendly staff, a small but varied salsa bar, and a lovely outdoor dining space. The indoor dining space is compact, but very tidy and comfortable. I briefly returned to modeling in my late twenties for a local swimsuit retailer. Baywatch was in its heyday at that time so there was a lot of 'beach work' available, but the inordinately large tattoo of Kool & the Gang covering my back usually got me fired almost immediately. I don't remember being a particularly big fan of Kool & the Gang during that period of my life, but I was deeply committed to both Tequila and friends with a diabolical sense of humor. At some point I'll need to get it removed, as the only time I enjoy that particular tattoo is at parties when I can take my shirt off on the dance floor as soon as the DJ inevitably plays the song "Celebration." My ex convinced herself that was the reason we stopped getting invited to family weddings, quinceaneras, bar mitzvahs, neighborhood block parties and memorials. I'm not so sure. Taqueria Cuernavaca Express is also a reason for celebration. A celebration of flavors and spices that is unmatched in the downtown Ventura area. This place is amazing! I was visiting for business and when I went to a nail salon, I asked for their recommendations and I'm so glad I did! One of the nail techs said this place had the best tacos. So I decided to swing by. The place was small with some indoor seating but had a nice outdoor seating area. They offer lots of drinks and even beer to go with their amazing food! Tacos que se resbalan!!! That is what my family would say. This little place is tucked on Main St, a few doors down from E.P Foster Library, and you definitely want to stop in and give it a try. The menu for tacos gives a lot of meat and vegetarian options. They even over Vegan cheese! And I overheard they do not cook with lard. The service was exceptional, I was immediately greeted with a smile and even got to practice my Spanish. The place is small with 5 tables and window bar stool seating available. It is very clean and bright. A complimentary water station is available, and there is also a self-serve salsa bar. I tried the orange medium salsa, which had chipotle flavors and the hot avocado salsa. Both were delicious! Overall, this place did not disappoint! The flavors were authentic, the tacos were a good size, and the ladies working today were so kind! They answered everyone's questions and made recommendations based on dietary needs/desires. Shoutout to my friend and fellow yelper Erica G for introducing me to this spot! Hate to say I've overlooked this place and I'm so glad she encouraged us to go in for some after cocktail tacos because they hit the spot. I found out Taqueria Cuernavaca has multiple locations throughout the 805 but happy that they have a restaurant in downtown Ventura. It's the perfect spot for a casual meal that tastes as good as any of the bigger Mexican restaurants on this strip. The interior is small but cozy, welcoming and I liked their large signage highlighting all of the different types of proteins and meats they offer here for tacos, burritos, and more. They have a good amount of small tables and a bar top overlooking the front entrance. Staff here were very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I felt welcomed and that my business was appreciated. Nice people in the front and stellar cooks in the back as the food was phenomenal. I had the birria and carnitas tacos, and my friend went with the asada. She loved hers and I would definitely try that meat next time. My Birria was okay, no frills but the winner hands down is their Carnitas! Some of the best carnitas tacos I've ever had and I challenged that they definitely rival some of the classic Oxnard carnitas staples that everyone hypes up. The carnitas were just how I like them, with the slightest crispy but also super juicy and flavorful. I'm addicted and definitely will be coming back for these alone. Another win is they have a homemade salsa bar with toppings so you can dress your tacos after you order. Even though I can't handle much heat the mild salsa was delicious and the spicier chipotle and avocado salsas looked good. Unfortunately, the consomé tasted more like a watered-down broth with a miso soup vibe and a slight Mexican twist not what I expected. The cashier was very helpful when I was deciding between the brisket and the carnitas. She even brought out a small sample of the brisket (warmed up in the microwave) cut into pieces to try. In the end, she was right -- the carnitas were the better choice: flavorful and more moist than the brisket, which was on the drier side. The staff overall was friendly and welcoming.
