Beach House Tacos was a revelation. I didn't have huge expectations since it's a cute, small stand on the beach. The menu is simple and straightforward. I thought the tacos would be decent, had a good attitude coming here, but boy, what a nice surprise this place was! Small line in front, you order, pay, go inside, wait for your order at pick up window. Simple! Tables on the pier, and they have a patio facing the ocean, nice view. Picnic tables! They sell wine, beer, margarita-s. Great selection! But the tacos!!! We got 4 between me and my husband to share and sample: Baja Taco (got fried fish) had fresh ingredients, lettuce and a nice lime flavor! Beach House Tacos (got grilled fish), nice pineapple salsa, tender fish, nice sauces and lettuce. Calamari Taco - fried calamari - fresh avocado and cabbage, nice sauce - chipotle. Marilu Taco with popcorn shrimp with nice chile lime crema, not too spicy. Even the fried seafood here is fresh, not very fried, just a tad, nice and crispy, but not greasy. Loved every taco, they are all different than each other, they use fresh ingredients and vegetables, each had a great, original flavor, they don't skimp on anything - seafood or ingredients. By far, some of the best tacos I ever had, they go in my Top 5. 4 Tacos (they are big!) are enough for 2 people. My and my husband we also shared a portion of guac and chips, they reminded us of Mexico. The guac had a lime flavor and well mashed, the tortilla chips are thicker and extra friend. Beach House Tacos? More like Beach House Snacks. I stood in line for 15 minutes just to place my order at the window, then waited another 45 minutes for my food. An hour later, I was handed a to-go box so tiny it fit in the palm of my hand. For a split second, I thought maybe they forgot the rest of my order. Nope. Inside were three of the smallest "street tacos" I've ever seen. I've seen more substantial meals in Barbie's Dreamhouse. I ordered the carne asada, but apparently the salt shaker took the day off because the meat had absolutely zero seasoning. No salt, no flavor, no redeeming qualities. The punchline? This tiny, flavorless comedy routine cost me $10 and an hour of my life. If you're looking for an appetizer for a doll or you're on a strict "disappointment diet," this is your place. This place is about everything you'd ask for from a beach taco stand. Above average effort goes into the tacos, I can't speak for anything else but isn't that enough?? The service ranges from pleasantly passable to outstanding and at a counter service spot I don't expect anything special. The eating area has a great view and is usually clean and comfortable. If there's not an open spot or they're busier than usual and taking a while to bus a table you can just sit on the beach. Love a place with a good happy hour, too and this one hits the spot. Maybe get some more local craft brew options in here if you like want to improve for people specifically like me but overall a pretty great casual option. I have lived here almost 2 years now and finally ate here last weekend. I ordered a calamari taco, Baja taco with grilled shrimp and an aqua Fresca. My favorite was the calamari taco. It was HUGE and stuffed with so much calamari that I had to grab a fork; yes folks it was that overstuffed! I love this place! They have the best tacos and are located right on the pier. The employees are always cheery and prompt with their service. When I come I get their iced tea and Baja tacos. My partner gets the seafood burritos. They are reasonably priced and they even have a free water station. There is only seating outside so be sure to come on a day when the weather is good. I really enjoyed this spot! The food was very flavorful and generously portioned. The calamari was one of the best I've had and I loved the chips and salsa, I just wish the salsa was spicier. I got the fried fish option for both of my tacos and it was perfectly crispy. The only thing I didn't like was the spring mix on the beach house taco. I just wish the tortillas were more soft and thin. The Baja taco had a lot of cabbage on it so I took the spring mix off and put some of the cabbage on that and it was good! Wars were fought, a pandemic ravaged the land, an insurrection was attempted and we got gaslit to think it was a fun organized tour of rambunctious older white males that thought they were going to a matinee of John Wick. I know my bitter review was left in haste because I was still grieving from Harambe's death. Plus, it was a beautiful sunset at the pier so I was about time to bury the hatchet. IT. WAS. TIME. I walked up and there was NO LINE! What fortune for me! The gods were ready for me to come up and enjoy a great meal and not have to wait the hour I had to endure which ended in Beach House keeping my money and I left empty handed (see original review) I was ready finally make peace with Beach House. I sat there at the window for a few minutes, nobody came. A young couple stood behind me and waited with me. This guy looks at me from inside and give me the "wait one mintute" finger and walks away. Ok, I'll be patient. It was late and he was probably the only one working. He wasn't. A few more minutes passed and the couple behind me gave up and left. The finger guy looks at me and says something to another worker who blankly looks at me, then goes to another register and starts playing around with it instead of trying to take my order. That's it. I'm done. If I had a sawsall I would have cartoonishly cut the wood around Beach House Tacos let it break apart into the ocean and let it sail into the sea. This is slightly larger than a shack. Came highly recommended. And we were mid afternoon. They have a nice little happy hour menu. So we were able to get five dollar grilled fish tacos. They give you cups for water, and they're very nice the window. There is a small area that you can eat inside that somewhat protected. And a number of outside tables. We opted to walk down the pear a bit and get a table there which was really really nice. The tacos were really good. As long as you like coleslaw which I do. There's a lot of slaw over a very tasty piece of grilled fish that has some chili tartar sauce on it and it's very lightly spicy. The salsa was a big hit. A little spicy yes but it's a brown salsa that has a lot of vegetables in it which we liked a lot. The chips were a bit thick for me. Because we came middle of the afternoon we suspect that they've been sitting a bit. I wasn't a fan but my friend loved them. Definitely would return. read more

Beach House Tacos is a cool place, and the food is good. We have had the Baja fried fish tacos a few times. The tacos are good, to me they are very good, and they are a nice size portion. But we had five tacos yesterday and water cups, no beverages really, and cost was over $40. No value there, it does not matter how good a fish taco is, no way is it worth the $7.50 they charge. If you park at the parking structure nearby, you can get a 2 hour validation from Beach House Tacos. Came here on Labor Day and I think I manage to beat the crowd at 6:30pm. The line comes and goes so really depends on how lucky you get, but even then, waiting for the food took a while even though there were only 5 orders ahead of me. I got the Seafood burrito with Shrimp being the fish of choice and had it fried over grilled. I liked the burrito but I do feel like the seafood to burrito portion could be better. Besides the portioning, the green sauce they provide is very disappointing. If they had pico de gallo or the typical green sauce you get in Mexican restaurants, the overall flavor would be much better. Sitting right on the pier you get a beautiful look at the beach while you eat, which makes it a perfect place to take a break and relax. It's an order at the window set up with pick up and the service is fast and efficient. Wanted to walk the pier since it wasn't too far from where we were staying and stumbled on this little joint walking up the stairs. My husband got the beach house burrito with asada, I got the spicy garlic shrimp burrito and my daughter got a kid's rice and asada burrito. We also got the green sauce and pineapple habanero sauce. Service was quick and very friendly. You pick up on the patio side where they have chairs and tables set up for you to enjoy your meal and the view. The burritos were huge and super packed ! My burrito honestly didn't need any sauce with it but I took a few bites with the pineapple habanero one. I wish it actually had a kick to it because the flavor is there. I was going to come here and be feisty asking why yall had kept this place a secret from me but now I see Beach House Tacos has 1k reviews so it appears, "I'm the problem it's me" - Taylor Swift. My biggest regret is all of these years passing by this spot and not thinking much of it. I guess with the casual order at the counter vibes and the smell of the tide keeping me at bay I thought this was just an average hole in the wall spot. I can admit when I am wrong and nothing about this spot is average. The ambiance, food and service were way beyond my expectation of this place. This local favorite is a gem and now will be on my regular rotation. It's the perfect casual beachy seafood and taco spot off the pier. The location makes this spot extra special. At the front entrance of the pier it's nice to take a walk and then treat yourself with a meal here. I love their covered outdoor patio on the pier because if you can snag a seat by the high top bar benches you'll get a nice little view of the ocean / beach. People would pay big money for these views at an upscale restaurant but you can get these views with a cheap meal no problem. For this spot you order at the counter and around the side is the pickup window. Regardless if you take the food to go or eat there they'll call your order by your number. As I mentioned over there is covered outdoor seating in their own private outdoor dining area. There are also some non covered picnic tables at the front on the boardwalk if you want to soak up the sun. Staff here seem nice though your interactions with them are limited. The gal who took my order at the front was nice and quick. She was all smiles and while it's a quick exchange she nice. Even when I picked up my order on the side I appreciate that the staff call the numbers loudly and are ready to keep it moving. Prices actually seemed reasonable, especially for the seafood options. A $10 small calamari appetizer wasn't too bad and I thought their three street shrimp tacos for $10 as well were a steal. They loaded the tacos up with baby shrimps so they don't skimp here. My meal was truly A+ for casual beach seafood and tacos. Honestly it was one of the better meals I've had in a while, it's no frills and everything just tasted good and fresh. I loved the calamari. The batter was crispy and well seasoned. Love calamari where they do both the circles/rings and the baby octopus bites. That's my favorite way to have calamari and love that they serve it like that here. The pink seafood sauce for dipping was a match made in heaven. For street tacos I went with the spicy garlic shrimp tacos. Three to an order it's definitely filling but perfect. I was pleasantly surprised at home much shrimp come in the tacos. The tortillas tasted fresh and the sauce on the shrimp had the right amount of kick that I could handle it and enjoy it. Finished the meal with their pineapple Agua Fresca which totally hit the spot. The literal perfect meal. Everything was a 10/10 and I get why there is always a line at this local hole in the wall shack. This was not a service issue but a food issue. I myself got the shrimp burrito (not the spicy shrimp) Shrimp was cold and soft, not grilled more like thawed. It lacked seasoning itself and the burrito was 85% rice that also lacked seasoning. We also got the Baja fish tacos and ahi tuna. For the price, very basic sauce and the grill on them is unable to be tasted at all. Honestly would not recommend. Wish I took a picture, but basically wasted $50. I love this place! The employees are all well-mannered, accommodating, and helpful. The food is great! I usually order a taco plate, but I recently tried my first burrito and loved it. I love the pineapple habanero sauce! (I think that's what it's called, but I always forget. Aging is not for the weak!) Being able to dine while watching the sunset or the waves rolling in makes life just a little more bearable. This is what I expect of a "beach house" style restaurant: rustic, on a pier, outdoor dining and flavorful/straight-forward food. As you can see from my menu pics, they have plenty to choose from. They open at 11:00 am (during the week but not promptly - as we disappointedly learned). The sand views are great on the south side. We placed our order at the window and waited for our order number to be called on the "inside" - the inside the patio fencing. It is all outdoor dining (which was great on the super fine weather day). We shared the Elote Chicken Taco, see my pic. There are 2 tacos in there. What you see is a bunch of flavors. The queso fresco was ample and added a super salty/rich component. The roasted corn had a great pop and counter-balance sweet to the salt of the queso fresco. The chile lime crema was plentiful. As you can also see in my pic the chicken breast cubes - they were moist and a great carrier for the taco toppings. There was more flavor than what I was expecting. read more

Funny enough, I haven't tried anything else on the menu--but the churro donuts alone are worth the trip! They're absolutely incredible--crispy, sugary, and perfectly fried. Yes, they're indulgent, but combining a churro and a donut into one glorious treat is pure genius. (True rating: 3.5 stars, but that wasn't an option.) Beach House Tacos has been a highlight spot for me and my husband over the past couple years of visiting and then living in Ventura. I have seen in other reviews that the business may have changed management recently, and I'm posting this review because over the past six months or so my experience coming here has unfortunately deteriorated. I would have originally said it was a 5-star experience, but recently I'd put it at 3.5. First, Beach House Tacos is not the easiest place to get to, unless you're already planning on being at the beach/pier. I usually make a special trip just for the tacos. There is a close garage with which BHT offers validation for two hours, and that's really helpful. But multiple times I've made the trek to find out that either the store had closed early (by way of paper sign on the window) or their happy hour specials were canceled because it was a holiday. I understand not offering specials on major holidays (though this exception is not posted on their menu), but I stopped by on an occasion I didn't even realize was a holiday. In the case of both the person in front of me and myself, they didn't let us know that the happy hour discount didn't apply until after they rang us up. I think a simple solution for this could be posting a sign on the window on the holidays they observe as a business so that customers know before they pay. After these experiences I have been inclined to eat there less often, and I call now before I go to make sure that they're open. But the other big disappointment is that they have reduced the size of their fish in the fish tacos considerably these last several months, by at least a third. They used to be nicely filling, but even after eating two I was left feeling so hungry. The batter is also a lot darker than it used to be, so it's possible the recipe for that changed, too. My husband said his tacos tasted extra fishy this time, and wondered if they changed how they source their seafood. In any case, the tacos are yummy, but now that they're so much smaller, $7.50 per taco seems really overpriced. If I were at the beach and it fell during happy hour, I think I would still stop by, but I won't be making any special trips here. That's a sad realization after a few really great years of bringing friends for what we previously called 'the best fish tacos in Ventura.' read more

After a full day out with Island Packer's on Santa Cruz Island in the Channel Islands, we were tired, after a day of hiking, so looking for something very casual and easy we headed to Beach House Tacos on the base of the Ventura Pier. We parked in the parking structure next door, and if you take your ticket with you, Beach House will validate for two hours of parking. We made it to the eatery, decided on our dishes and ordered at the window. After ordering we found a picnic table in their patio area next to a heater as it was a bit chilly. Our food came out quickly and wow we were surprised. When we ordered we chose just one taco each wondering if we should do two. That was quickly answered when we got our food. The tacos are huge. To start we ordered the special elote fries. Oh my goodness, crispy and creamy French fries topped with cotija cheese, roasted corn and a nice spicy aioli. Mr. B had the popcorn shrimp taco filled with tender perfectly fried shrimp and I went with the potato taco. It was filled with tender pieces of potato, topped with chiles and lettuce, both were absolutely delicious. This pier restaurant is one of the best we have had for casual but delicious food. The bonus for Mr. B was a can of Tecate beer for a mere $3 bucks, such a deal. It was the perfect spot for a very casual but scrumptious dinner. read more

This spot in Ventura is LEGIT. When I'm at the beach, I crave seafood. This spot is right on the pier in Ventura. You place your order at the shack-like window on the outside. Then there's an outdoor dining area with tables where you can sit down and have your food. The ambiance is no frills and is perfect for a casual beach day. We started off with chips and guacamole which was a great starter for our table. At $4.50 it was a perfect price point. I ordered the Early California fish tacos fried. There was a lot going on with this taco... with avocado, corn and all the trimmings. In my picture, you can't even see the fish but it's definitely in there crisped to the right amount. I ordered two of these and was definitely full. It was hard to keep the taco together as I ate it since it was so full of stuff, so keep your napkins handy. For the $7.50 price point, I thought these were well worth it. Some family members at our table ordered the salmon tacos and said those were good too.
